We stayed for two nights for a quick "covid" honeymoon since we couldn't leave the country and we are so happy we did! I loved everything about the place. The rooms were gorgeous, the pool area was super amazing and I even got some work done outside since it was beautiful weather and they had chairs outside out room. There was plenty of parking and within walking distance to so many fun stuff and about a 7 minute drive to pier which is incredible. The property cat is also a major bonus! Room2 very clean, good price and staff was very friendly and helpful. DAVE checked us in, showed me where everything was in the spacious room and brought us ice. In the world of Pismo Beach, Shell Beach Inn was a wonderful experience. This is located just down the street from my favorite bar and now new favorite breakfast spot, Zorros. Owner is so sweet. My bf and I originally planned to stay at the Palomar Inn down the street, but due to a hostile, unwelcoming receptionist that would not book us in because she couldn't find the reservation we made over the phone with her, we headed to this hotel! So cute! Right off the highway but still a great location. The staff gave us a discount to the nearby Mexican restaurant, which was delicious. We walked all around the town and the ocean bluffs. This place is a gem. The location is perfect- a short walk to the beach and next to restaurants. The pool is warm and clean and the patio area has thoughtful touches like blankets, extra towels, and space heaters. The entire place is tastefully decorated and has everything you want in a hotel room- fridge, microwave, usb ports, eco friendly bath products. The bed is probably the best bed on the planet. It felt like it hugs you sleep. The cleanliness of the room was impressive. The management is beyond helpful with suggestions for food and places to check out. They get ALL of the stars because of all of the above, and also for being super gracious when I was being a bit loud in the pool area later than I realized. We stayed here for a quick getaway with our boys for Valentine's Day. Dave and Jodi were so friendly and accommodating. They went over and beyond to make sure that we were happy and comfortable. They even provided candy and board games for our sons. There was an awesome appetizer and wine special by the pool that night (Dave made homemade meatballs). We stayed in Room 1. It's renovated nicely and decorated very tastefully. The location is within walking distance to the BEST place to eat in the Pismo area, Zorro's...so give that a try! We usually camp when we are in the Pismo area, but I can without a doubt say that if we are in need of a room in the area again we will definitely book here at Shell Beach Inn! read more

Dave and Jodi are awesome. The motel has been fully remodeled. They did an beautiful job. All the rooms have a different look. We went with friends and booked all 10 rooms. We were in room 9. It was very clean and very comfortable.I love all little touches. Microwave, mini fridge coffee pot with great coffee. The mugs are nice and big. Microwave popcorn and a bowl of candy cute extra touches. The bath towels are fabulous. Big and plush. The pool area was a hit with all of us. They had music playing, we took our own cocktails and charcuterie. The pool was heated, and there were outdoor heaters and cafe lights around the deck. They also have nice blankets draped on the chairs in case you get cool. I love all the special touches here. We will definitely be back. Loved the cozy home like feeling. read more

Two SLO alum say: this is the BEST hotel you will find!! From the moment we arrived, Dave was incredibly welcoming and helpful. We were given a plethora of coupons for local fare, a complimentary upgrade to a larger room, and a detailed walk through of every feature of our lodging. Room 1 was spacious and cozily decorated. The bathrooms even have their own heaters (why can't be beat on those chilly slo evenings!). Dave continually checked up on us and was just a call away if we had any issues. Not to mention the AMAZING beds themselves - I have never felt a comfier mattress or softer sheets (no starch here!). It truly felt like a home away from home. Beyond our room, the inn offers a heated pool surrounded by comfy sitting nooks and a fire pit. Parking was a breeze and our room was well soundproofed. Pismo itself is a beautiful area and an easy hop over to SLO. I recommend checking out the views at the nearby Dinosaur Caves Park. Overall we cannot say enough good things about this experience. Luxurious, friendly, and affordable. Absolutely will be staying here for any and all future travel - and maybe even one day a wedding! 5+ stars!! read more

This place is awesome! The staff are very kind, courteous, and friendly from the get-go. During checkin we were given info to the best local restaurants along with coupons. The hotel is conveniently located next to a liquor store and about 3-5 minutes (walking) to the beach. The pool area is perfect for hanging out with your friends/family. Each table is equipped with a small heater and all the patio furniture looks new. There are also large outdoor heaters, towels and blankets available outdoors. We were encouraged to move seats around to accommodate our family as needed. The room was adorable, newly renovated and well appointed. It was decorated to feel warm and cozy. It was also immaculately clean. The room included a kitchenette, fireplace and oversized shower. They even paid attention to small details such as having earplugs in the room, a stocked candy dish, coffee supplies and popcorn (which my kids appreciated). Overall, one of the best hotel experiences I've had in the area. I would highly recommend a stay here! read more

We stayed in "The Suite" and had a fully furnished, modern, and clean apartment that met all our needs. We had a fridge to chill our white beer and a large living room space to lounge around. We wanted to stay away from tourist spots and the location was great for that. The owners are amazing and were very helpful and accommodating. One of the owners provided us with a great overview of Pismo Beach and recommended some amazing places that were local favorites; we especially loved Sando's sandwich place. We stumbled upon this inn over the 4th of July weekend and what a gem! The inn is small and consists of just 9 rooms, all refurbished, very clean, soft sheets and just overall very classy! My girlfriend, like most women (and men) are very particular where they stay and this place had all the right amenities and at a reasonable price. The owners are very friendly and you could tell that they have their customers best interests in mind and went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. There is a small heated pool that is very quaint and tucked away from the street. A little street noise from Price Street, but nothing terrible and still gives a private feel. We had the pool area mostly to ourselves which was very nice in the late afternoon and early evening. There are plenty of eateries within walking distance, including a market and coffee shops. We were so happy to discover this place! We will certainly come back! read more

When I was reading lots of reviews for places to stay in the Pismo area, I was frustrated because so many seemed to have a lot of downsides - dirty, very loud, not maintained, etc... None of those are true about Shell Beach Inn. It is a charming spot - and it's almost the opposite of a corporate-type hotel, in some ways good and others not so. The folks who run the hotel are very friendly with getting reservations and calling day of. The room was nice in having a mini-fridge and microwave, and it had a "cute" look. On the other hand, it was just a little small - almost no counter space next to bathroom sink. Aside from the bed one tiny chair. Also, the office appears to be maintained minimal hours. But, any needs we had were taken care of with a phone call. There is some freeway noise because the inn is across the street from 101. It wasn't real bad - but enough that the owners leave you earplugs, and when I used them I didn't hear any noise. One experience that wasn't ideal was check-out, which was listed at 11am. Most places I've been are ok if you're out a few minutes after. Here, we got a bunch of knocks on the front door promptly at 11 telling us this is check-out time. It's truly a family-run place, with both good and a little quirkiness that come with families! read more

My wife and I stayed at the Shell Beach Inn about six years ago, and the place was fine. This is one of the main reasons we booked a three night stay in early March for business and pleasure. We arrived around 3:45 PM on the afternoon of 3/2/17. While checking in, we were told that the motel was (as of about six months ago) under new management. After putting our belongings in Room 7, we ventured down the street to get something to eat. About 90 minutes later, we returned and I laid down for a short nap. Less than an hour later, I awoke to find I was in bed with around 6-10 black insects. My wife & I tried unsuccessfully to locate the manager, and we finally had to leave a phone message from a phone number on a side door of the premises. After trying back several times after the message was left, we finally reached the manager (who didn't appear to be onsite). He came over and I showed him the remains of the insects that I had killed. He blamed it on the recent rains and carpet cleaning, apologized and immediately moved us from Room #7 to Room #6. About 45 minutes later (around 8 PM), we left so that I could play in my band at a pub in San Luis Obispo, CA (about 8 miles up the road). My wife and I returned around 2AM in the morning (after playing), and we immediately started to fight off mosquitos and other insects all night. At that point in time, we knew we were going to have to vacate the premises shortly after dawn. We finally fell asleep for a couple hours about 4 AM. When I awoke, I again found insects in my bed. I have included a picture of one. Once again, we tried to reach the manager (about 7 AM) unsuccessfully. At one point we saw a maintenance man outside and asked him. About 30 minutes later, he brought the manager over to our room. I explained the events of the latter eve to the manager, and he was very understanding about it. I also pointed out that neither of us had even taken a shower under such conditions. He immediately made it clear there would be NO charge. He specifically stated that he would NOT charge us as long as I did not give them a bad review online. Though it was a bit of a shady (bordering on black mail) proposal, I told him I would agree to it. My wife and I got in the car and left, went to a nearby Starbucks, and proceeded to call the Hampton Inn and a couple other local hotels. We knew we were not going to get the best deal, because we needed a room on the spot. We were finally able to get a reservation at the Hilton Garden in Pismo Beach. They said they "might" be able to get us into the room at noon. Luckily....After four hours of sitting at Starbucks and inside our vehicle, we checked into the Hilton at exactly 12:03 PM. I have the receipt that reflects that transaction. I commend the Hilton for helping us out and giving us a great place to stay for the rest of the weekend. On Monday 3/6/17, I checked my credit card and found that only about half the charge was removed. I called "James" (supposed Mgr) and he was quickly very rude on the phone. To say he had changed his tune would be an understatement. He denied saying that the total charge would be removed, and he lied and said there was no insect problem in the rooms. Quite an incredible change of heart to say the least! He said he took off half, but I would have to contact Booking.Com and speak with them about the rest. When I told him I would give them a (truthful) bad review since he had forsaken his part of the deal, he had the gall to say I was threatening him, and he would take it up with the police. He then hung up. I immediately called my credit card, put a stop to all payments on this establishment and officially disputed the charge. After making a few calls to Booking.com, I spoke with a Customer Service Mgr. that heard my whole story. He said it was up to the Shell Beach Inn to take the charge off, but he would have Booking.com do it at this time as a courtesy for all that we had been through. My wife and I can never remember leaving a hotel or motel in our 15 years of marriage. This place was a bug-ridden filthy mess. The manager (James) may try to say differently, but he is a bold faced liar and should not be trusted by anyone. With the help of the Hilton and Booking.com, we survived this horrendous mess. It won't happen again. The management of the Shell Beach Inn should be held responsible for their lying and for the horrendous situations they put my wife and I through. I am confident the charge will be dropped by my credit card company, and these shady managers will get a big fat nothing....Which is just what they deserve read more

My son and I stayed here for 3 days for his 18th birthday. We booked and canceled a couple times because of the air quality and concerns about the horrible California fires. Each time I called to cancel, Dave was so understanding about it! So we finally make our way there hoping to relax in the cool beach air.....‍ just my luck ... it was 94 degrees!! Hotter than where we came from during the whole stay!! Unfortunately there are no a/c units here ... as with many spots here.. it's the beach right?! So we made the best of it! Thank God for the pool! Dave was so apologetic about the situation and brought us another fan and offered cold drinks and ice, checked in on us every time he saw us around. Dave and his wife were so sweet, and you can tell it's totally by nature! Good customer service is so hard to find these days and unfortunately surprising when you get it. My boyfriend, dog and I stayed for the long weekend. We had a blast in their pool and the rooms were great! It feels like you are staying at a friend's guest house rather than a motel room (just check out the pictures!).
