I have been here 3 times now and love it! The staff is very attentive and the food is amazing! The eggs are always cooked exactly how you want but the French toast paired with a chocolate milk is my favorite. I end my meals with a slice of pie and ask for it to be warmed up. My favorite is the sugar cream pie. The place is always filled with regulars and when I'm dining a lone I like to sit at the breakfast bar. The chefs are so sweet and I try to give them a wave as I go. I don't think there is anything I would change. Maybe being open longer so I can come more often. read more

We were directed to Shellie's by the AT&T sales guru. It was close and we hadn't tried it. The service was extremely friendly and food delivered quickly. The food wasn't bad but really just bland and non anything to make it worthy of a revisit. The biscuits were cake like and on the dry side. Home fries were boring and the cinnamon roll similarly not great. Like I mentioned nothing was bad with the food just quick dry grub. The restaurant itself seems lost, it's a diner with ocean themed decorations. Odd for an Indiana dinner. Lots of clutter by the register and checking out left you looming over other guests eating due to no standing room. The booths were dingy and obviously need a good steam cleaning meaning people's oily hair residue was obvious on all booths. The wooden tables had similar black smudged stains from years of service. Overall I give it a 2.4 and despite the fact I'm not likely to return simply due to many other better options, I wouldn't tell someone not to go. It's a diner, so the clientele and decor are what you would expect. Service was good. Lot of waitresses. This place is pretty busy. Parking seemed easy. The problem is the food. It was just bad. I ordered a perch sandwich. It was obviously a frozen, pre-cooked fish filet that was re-fried on site. As a result, breading was way too crunchy, fish was *very* fishy, the bun fell apart. I ate half maybe. Bad fish like this is why a huge swathe of middle America makes blanket statements like "I dont like fish". If you've only ever eaten gross fish like this, I guess I can understand. Just know there is real fish out there and it's spectacular. Fries were good though. Daughter had a cheeseburger. Tasted like the cheap burgers you would get at a company cookout. Seemed like pre-cooked frozen meat discs thrown on a flat top to heat through. Edible at least. read more

This was my first time here during a visit to my daughter who is in grad school at Purdue. There were 3 of us. The Belgian Waffle with strawberries was cooked perfectly, and the strawberries are real and not a "syrup". I tried a homemade biscuit and that was very nice. My daughter had the biscuits and gravy and American fries/hash browns. She would give them a 4/5. Our server Ginger was very good, she went out of her way to notice my BF drank a lot of water and gave him a large glass. The pies were also homemade and fabulous! Highly recommend! :) read more

Got eggs, hash browns, & bacon. Food was good but nothing to write home about. Hash browns were cooked well, but a little bland as they don't seem to add anything into theirs. Shelly's is another of my favorite restaurants in the Lafayette area for breakfast, brunch or lunch. They offer a classic diner menu with their own special touches. This little place is quite the hidden gem! It's one of those little breakfast-luncheon mom n pop places. Staff is friendly and the place has that quaint small-town Hallmark movie charm where everyone seems to know each other. The prices are quite low and I was expecting small portions but I couldn't have been more wrong! Portions are HUGE! Shelly's is your typical locally owned diner, serving typical diner food. Lots of grey hair among the patrons. The building used to house a Wendy's, so the tables are crammed together and the waitresses can barely squeeze between the tables. There is no reservations, and no hostess. You get in and get a table if you're lucky, or wait until someone leaves. Most folks don't hang around long after eating because there is zero ambiance. But the food is good and cheap, the service is friendly and if you go often enough, they'll remember your name. So get Grandma and Grandpa and take them to Shellie's. They'll love it! read more

I have to update! If you are looking for a friendly, fast delicious breakfast/lunch joint, this is it! I met my grandparents there for lunch yesterday. I normally have breakfast, but decided to switch it up, and I am so glad I did! The ham and bean soup with cornbread and american fries are the best! My grandmother even commented on how good it was and hers are amazing! Morgan and Ashley always make the time spent there enjoyable! Shelly's is a teeny tiny diner located in the shell of what is very obviously once an old Wendy's chain location. But that's the only thing you don't know about it. You've been to this restaurant a million times before. This is the kind of hometown place where everybody congregates with Gramma on Sunday, the daily special is written on a piece of paper with big colorful marker, and the waitresses call everybody 'honey' and 'sugar' and 'sweetheart'. Is the food that great? Engh, not really, but that's not why you're here. You're here because they still make sandwiches the old way (white bread fried on the griddle with butter) and you can get a side of coleslaw with your pancakes, if you so desire. Sure my ham-n-cheese was nothing to write home about, but when you're tired and grumpy and very sick of traveling, sometimes a taste of down-home is exactly what you need :) read more

Typical dinner food but with good prices on big protions. Definitely a local choice, very busy on Saturday and Sunday morning/ early afternoon. Never have been dissapointed with the food but never have had my mind blown. This is not a bad thing, for the price it is good food. When they are busy the waitresses are stetched very thin. Food comes fast( even when super busy), sometimes they forget a dish or something but with the amount of people that comes through in such a small area and a very quick turnaround it is understandable.
