BEWARE!!! Save yourself the trouble and order elsewhere. There are so many pizza places around. We ordered Shelly Pie through Doordash on Sunday. A group of us were watching football and one decided to order a pizza for us to all go in on. Pizza is a regular thing for us and we have tried most in the area. We ordered a large pizza, half with various meats and half with onions. With the toppings this pizza is expensive, so you expect it to be worth it. The pizza arrived and we unwrapped it only to find that all the toppings were on the whole pizza. My friend called Shelly Pie about it and they said they had been having issues with Doordash. In my opinion if you are having issues either fix it or discontinue the service with them. He said he wasn't worried about that but simply how to rectify the situation. We had vegetarians in the group. They said they could make a small pizza with onions which we could pick up in 20 minutes and we agreed. This defeated the purpose of Doordash since we were trying not to leave the house, but we agreed. He returned with the small pizza and as I was unwrapping it he made a joke about there being meat. Unfortunately when I unwrapped it there was a pepperoni sitting right there. I don't know if someone thought they were being funny, in which case I do not appreciate the joke. Or perhaps someone was just being careless. Either way I will not be returning to Shelly Pie. The pizza was not very good at all. That was a consensus. It had almost no sauce on it and was a little underdone. Plus the onions on top were an absolute joke. There was literally pieces of onion the size of my hand. That is simply called being lazy. This was my second experience with Shelly Pie and this one was more disappointing than the first. It will be my last. read more

First time ordering from Shelly Pie and I can't wait to order again. I know they're known for their pizza, but I was craving wings and beans and greens. Just wow. So good!!! The wings were perfectly crispy and very meaty... some of the best wings that I've had in a long, long time. I intended to save the beans and greens for later, but I didn't stand a chance. ---- I ordered again! The crust was fantastic, and a size medium is most likely an XL by any other pizza joint. Group-friendly joint for Italian food. Rumor has it that Shelly brought the recipe for the pizza dough from Vincent's, and although it has the same appetizingly chewy crust, it lacks the lightness of Vinnie's. Although there is "an obscene" amount of toppings on their enormous pizzas, they aren't cheesy/greasy like Mineo's. Even if you don't partake of the pies, if you leave hungry, you didn't do it right. A bowl of delicious Italian wedding soup and a tossed salad suffice to fill you up. I have no idea if Shelly's has a dessert menu, because I've never had enough room in my stomach to ever consider glancing at it, much less seriously contemplate ordering anything off of it. So, haven't had Shelly Pie for a few years since I moved away from the area. I remember that it was so much better than Vincent's Pizza; flavorful crust, tasty sauce (the foundation of a great pizza.) Always ordered pepperoni and sausage. Pepperoni was thick sliced and plentiful and sausage was large pieces and delicious. Well that was then and now the crust tasted like basic white bread, the sauce was ok but was skimpy, the pepperoni was thin (Hormel?) and not plentiful or tasty and the sausage was small and bland. Was expecting the awesome pie that was but got something kind of middle of the road. Haven't had Casey's or Pizza Palermo but for the price may have to go with them next time. Oh, also ordered fried zucchini- couple pieces were tasty but rest was soaked in oil. Very unappetizing. read more

Absolutely prime pizza. Pittsburghers of a certain age realize that you can't go to the old Vincent's and get an old-style pie any more. But wait! Shelly (eponymously) was apparently a waitress there back in the day, and she's preserved all that was luscious and good about the place that was. All this might be an irrelevant legend. The present-day truth is that the pizzas here are fabulous, ample, and scrumptious. And they come in varieties that Vinnie never imagined. What's more is that the pizzas here are just one slice of a full menu, where everything that I've tried leaves me hungering for more. There's plenty of parking and a healthy crowd most evenings. Tried Shelly Pie for the first time since moving back to the burgh... I wish we would have been here sooner after trying to find a good Sicilian pizza in the area with little success. The pizza here is no joke. We decided to order a large pepperoni with extra cheese and sausage. The delivery was great. We didn't have to wait too long. The pizza arrived with the right temperature. However, it was heavy as heck...lol. When we opened the lid, we knew we were in over our heads. The cheese was oozing as we tried to cut and lift a slice. The box lid that resembled the 'soul glo' stain was saturated with cheese grease. Then we realized we couldn't eat the pizza without a fork and knife. I don't mind eating pizza this way if it is Chicago style, but this was just soggy from too much sauce, cheese grease in the center. The pizza itself reminds me of the Vincent pizza park pies. We also ordered wings on the side and they were alright, not crispy though. Overall the pizza was good, however the distribution of the ingredients was a bit off. One bite , it's a 7.2 everyone knows the rules. $24-26 for a Large with onion & pepperoni. $4 per topping on entire pizza. Not my style of pizza. It's very heavy, very greasy. Visited today with my daughter. Based on the outside of the building, I was very surprised with the inside and the way the restaurant was decorated, it looked very nice. I also loved the fact that there is an adequate amount of booths. The bathroom was also very clean. We came about 4 pm for dinner. The place was fairly empty and a server was over promptly after we sat. After looking at the menu i found it to be just a tad more expensive than I had expected. We ordered a large one topping. The pizza was 15 and the topping was 4. The pizza was a decently big size, lots of cheese and thick crusted. The pepperoni was a bit oily but overall okay. It reminded me alot of Vincent's pizza. My only complaint is the server wasn't too great with bringing refills. read more

This place used to be amazing and overly generous with toppings and portions. But recently it's been nothing but a let down. I ordered a large pizza with pepperoni on the entire thing and mushrooms on half. I specifically told the lady on the phone to put the amount of mushrooms you'd put on the entire pizza but only on half, since we like mushrooms. The woman repeated the order back to me perfectly. I get the pizza home and there's only pepperoni on half and not even enough mushrooms for half a pizza (in terms of generous Shelly pie toppings). Paying for a $30 pizza and not getting what you asked for is frustrating. This isn't the first time a pizza has been sub-par in recent months. They need to get back to what they were known for - mounds of toppings. read more

Wow! Found a new favorite tonight. First of all, don't let the tag "medium 8 cut" fool you. Their pizza is BIG. One slice = 2-3 typical pizza slices from a pizza chain. I think I'm in love with their dough. It's soft and pillowy without being soggy. They give you plenty of toppings too! ***Also want to mention that I'm super impressed with their system during COVID-19. They sanitize the pens, maintain a "one person per order inside at a time" rule, and are giving tips to their staff who would normally be working if their dining room was open. Love to see it! It's a lot. From the awkward location, to the size of the portions it's quite the experience. The service was extremely friendly and the atmosphere was lively upon entering. The pie itself was massive and after returning home dove it. It had decent flavor and the ingredients themselves seemed pretty average, tons of grease made it impossible to eat. We had an unexpected but wonderful experience at Shelly Pie in Turtle Creek, PA the day before Thanksgiving. We had originally set out for a quick lunch at a place in North Versailles but the wind storm had knocked out power in the area and businesses were closed, so we headed down Greensburg Pike to see if we could find an open restaurant. When we stopped at the red light in TC, my daughter noticed Shelly Pie and said that her office had recently brought in a bunch of pizzas from there and they were really good. Loaded with toppings. That was all I needed to hear so we pulled in to the lot and headed inside. The restaurant is nicely decorated and we were greeted with a friendly smile. The three of us decided on a large pepperoni pizza in order to have some leftovers. The pie arrived quickly and looked delicious. The toppings were loaded on top and full of flavor in every bite. All three of us agreed that it was the best pizza we've had in quite a while. This isn't your regular local pizza joint, it's much better. The prices are good and the atmosphere engaging. This place has great reviews and I wanted to see what the hype was all about! Upon arrival, the parking lot was somewhat difficult to locate. It looks like you can drive into the back of the bank next door to access the lot or there's a one-car driveway on the side of Sally's. We ordered pick-up and the order was ready upon arrival. The cashier who helped me was really funny (wish I remembered his name!) The pizza was wrapped in a brown wrap with a cardboard base, no big bulky boxes. First let me say this pizza was HUGE. The two of us didn't even eat half of it. A small would have been a better option. The taste was okay, not the best pizza but not the worst. The bottom of the pizza was a little soggy, but that may have been due to being a pickup order. All in all, it was good pizza. The crust was thick, doughy and was easily my favorite part. For a three topping pizza it ended up being a little over $24....expensive in my opinion. Maybe next time I'll order a small or try something else on the menu. read more

We ordered pizza and wings both were terrible. And this place is not cheap. The pizza crust was thin, soft, and soggy in the center. No taste. We ordered toppings that were just slapped on there. The pizza was a mess. The quality of the cheese is poor. The wings were not done. We had to put them in the oven for 25 minutes. Even then, I couldn't enjoy them because I couldn't get past the original taste. We were going to call and complain but why bother? We'll never ever go there again. Save your money. We haven't dined-in at ShellyPie as yet, but we did order dinner for delivery for our dad. The delivery company unfortunately delivered to the incorrect address (which the delivery company did resolve quickly). I can't thank Shelly Pie enough though...the owner Mike and also Lisa were very helpful, professional and courteous about the error. We placed a second order the next day...(it was delivered on time and in excellent condition!) And Shelly Pie was kind enough to add a few little extras to our dads meal delivery, which was greatly appreciated! My dad loved the generous size and excellent taste of the lasagna and meat balls! He also really liked the house dressing on the salad and said the wedding soup was better than homemade! Thank you Shelly Pie for the great meal and excellent customer service! My husband and I were in the mood for trying pizza somewhere off the beaten path (at least for us), so after a quick search, we were on our way to Shelly Pie in Turtle Creek. Shelly Pie is a sit-down pizza restaurant (though they also serve things other than pizza). It has a warm and welcoming vibe...most of the people there seemed to be locals. It was very clean, bright, and had lots of TVs. Our server couldn't have been nicer and was very attentive. We opted to keep things very basic and ordered provolone sticks for an appetizer and a medium cheese pizza for dinner. The provolone sticks arrived in short order and were delicious....fried to perfection and appropriately gooey. The best part of the sticks was the marinara sauce they were served with....super flavorful! Most dipping sauces are bland and generic, but this actually had chunks of tomato and lots of visible spices. It was so good that we actually ate the rest with a spoon when we ran out of provolone sticks (don't judge). After we were done with our appetizer, it took a REALLY long time for our pizza to come out. I mean....we're talking probably 45 minutes? Our waiter was really apologetic and kept saying...."It should be out soon...how long could it possibly take to make a cheese pizza?!" (Our thoughts exactly!) At one point he even offered to bring us out some bread to nosh on, which we declined since our appetizer had taken the edge off of our hunger, but we appreciated his concern. So the service was great! But hopefully 45 minutes for a cheese pizza is not the norm and we were just there when they were having an off night in the kitchen....because that's definitely too long to wait for something so simple! When our pizza finally arrived, we eagerly dug in and weren't disappointed. The crust was thick and chewy....pretty unique from other Pittsburgh shops. They also go CRAZY on the cheese....it's super gooey and heavy, so you'll definitely want to sop up some of the extra grease with a napkin before digging in (or I guess maybe not, depending on your feelings about grease, haha). Overall, it was a really tasty pizza. My only complaint was that it was a little sparse on the sauce.....their sauce is delicious, and I found myself wishing the pizza had more to balance out the extra cheese and thick crust. However, that was easily solved by asking our waiter for some extra sauce on the side, which he happily brought. And next time I'll ask for the pizza to be extra saucy! Long pizza wait time aside, we were very pleased with the food and service, so even though this isn't exactly around the corner from us, it's certainly worth making the drive again to partake in this deliciously unique pizza! read more

I grew up in New Jersey and have eaten TONS of pizza from both NJ and NYC. I have heard people say this area is the mecca of pizza, where good pizza comes from etc. Now although NJ will always hold a special place in my heart...pizza from nj nyc is straight DOO DOO compared to Pittsburgh. I thought i knew what good pizza was, until i moved to Pittsburgh. I went on a small pizza mission when I first moved here trying all the local pizza spots and let me tell you.. Pizza in Pittsburgh blew my pants off. The pizza at Shelley Pie is so big, its like a monster pizza ate all the other weaker pizzas and formed a giant super pizza dripping with a hundred pounds of cheese mad toppings and love. Went to lunch with a friend I haven't seen in over 20 years. I've always had take out but not inside dining. Pleasant surprise. The menu had numerous Italian favorites, my wife enjoyed an Italian sub that she couldn't finish however she tried it was just too much sub for her and it was delicious. My friend and I ordered a large pizza with sausage, pepperoni, and mushrooms. A large pie is 12 cut. When the pizza came out there was enough to feed an army. Absolutely wonderful pizza. Fresh, hot, and so delicious. The sauce wasn't overpowering, the cheese was plentiful as was the pepperoni,sausage,and mushroom. It was cooked to perfection and after the first bite I knew I was in heaven. Just an absolute reward to a palate that after not going dining for over 14 months was satisfied with the flavors all brought together. I highly recommend Shelly Pie Restaurant as I highly recommend the food that is expertly prepared. I'd suggest instead of reading this review you go check it out and I'm sure you'll agree. The only downfall is the parking and the entrance. I didn't see any handicap assessable entrance or parking and be prepared to walk the steps to enter. Guarantee if you work up an appetite walking the steps to enter, you'll be very satisfied leaving with a full belly. read more
