Pretty standard Asian bakery. I stopped by to pick up some pastries to bring to my friend's home Saturday evening around 6 pm. I was afraid the selection wouldn't be great because it was so late in the day, but I was pleasantly surprised that plenty of buns were still available. I got: Vanilla sponge roll ($9.99) Bag of pineapple cakes ($6.40) Pineapple custard bun ($2.50) Custard brioche bun ($2.09) Red bean bun ($2.19) Paper cup cake ($2.20) I didn't get a chance to try everything, but most of what I did try were just okay but nothing amazing. The sponge roll was on the dry side imo, and I found the pineapple cake dry too. I prefer the pineapple cakes I can get at the grocery store. Probably my favorite of everything I tried was the red bean bun, as they put plenty of red bean paste in the filling and it really hit the spot. Both custard buns were again okay but light on the custard.

Quality/Quantity - Okay, time for an update. I/we have gotten over the first review with poor service; well almost over, lol. This is our go-to location for pastry snacks, mainly for convenience. And they make good travel snacks. I like the fact that you have weekly specials, see pictures. We get random snacks/pastries every time we are here, but almost always get an egg tart or two; my daughter's favorite. Not a favorite from here, but her favorite pastry is egg tarts. Atmosphere - Small to-go bakery. Counter seating, that I have never seen anyone use. I think the city of SL might have made them put that in, but then where is the public restroom...? Plenty of mall parking, hence the convenience. Plus I am here often shopping the other businesses, New Sang Chong Market, Poke Star, Mings Donuts, Baby Cafe, etc. Service - Counter service. The team can STILL be much more friendly. Price - Reasonable; but again, we are paying for convenience. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 1948 with Grandpa & Grandma Kao from Taiwan and serving the Bay Area since 1978. We have been shopping since you opened your store in SF in 1981.

Chinese bakery with items reasonable priced in comparison to Chinatown and other Asian bakeries (Paris Baugette, 85 Degree, and Tous les Jous). The individual wrapped items and cakes are consider your standards as these have been the basics the last several decades. I've tried other Korean bakeries and the only one that I can say is better than Sheng Kee is Paris Baugette but their prices are a like 30% higher.

I always buy my birthday cake from one of branches love their cake so soft not sweet One problem I had with taro flavor was very crumbly and powdery so I don't know if that's what how taro cake should be as it was my first time trying taro cake

Help yourself inside. They have trays to put your purchases on so it is easier to carry and all are individually wrapped so I bought two red bean buns, 4 mini pineapple mooncakes, 1 butter loaf and one mango mousse cake all for gifts. Not to crowded or noisy and enjoy the quick service

We love this place and was so happy to see it much closer by in San Leandro! Used to drive out from Alameda to the Albany or Union City locations. Been to new location already many times and most recently bought a strawberry mousse cake for my younger son's birthday, a tiramisu cake for older son's birthday, and a 1/2 sheet fruit cake today for the older son's graduation celebration ! So light and not too sweet and fluffy and fresh and delicious! Friends who'd never had Chinese cake came back for seconds and thirds! Always great service and delicious fun food and cute place in excellent location.

I first noticed Sheng Kee Bakery several months ago, but I did not drop in. Thankfully, my sister recommended we go by there after we finished shopping at the Asian grocery store nearby. It is a small Taiwanese bakery which reminds me of 85C Bakery. Grab a tray and tongs because you are going to need them. We purchased an assortment of goodies. My favorite items were the two different egg tarts. Yummy!! You are sure to find something that you want. I look forward to trying more of what they have to offer. Those cakes look delicious. Safe to say that this bakery will be part of our regular itinerary whenever we go shopping next door.

Is it real Peet's coffee?

The pastries are pretty good, but not sure about the coffee. They have a Peet's coffee sign up on the wall. I ordered an ice Americano, but it tastes nothing like the real Peet's coffee. I should know because I go to regular Peet's coffee shop about five days a week.

3.5 stars, located in the Marina Faire shopping plaza with plenty of parking. Sheng kee is mostly a takeout venue with a small counter with 3 bar stool seats if you want to sit and eat/drink what you ordered. Small yet tidy shop with a solid selection of baked goods and under a handful of drinks. Comparable to other similar bakeries like 85 degrees, yet I am not sure if they have a membership club where you earn points and coupon bonuses for every purchase. Overall, most of the pastries I've tried are decent. Though I am partial and prefer 85 Degrees more for the flavor and slightly better selection and pricing than Shengkee. Convenient to stop in for dessert and bakery snacks after grocery shopping at New Sang Chong grocery, or after eating lunch at one of the restaurants in the same plaza. Today I bought: Danish fruit boat $2.99, mini hot dog bites $3.75, HK hot milk tea $2.75, Green tea mini mousse cake bite $2.85, and a Pork sung/floss bun $2.35.

Sheng Kee Bakery opened where a taqueria once was. Take out only. No tables within. No decor Drill: grab a tong and tray. Select any pastries/cakes that strike ur fancy. Get in line, pay and select cake, if needed at front counter, when reaching cashier. Offerings(Taiwanese bakes/pastries+, Asian fusion pastries): pork sung buns, sweet & savory bakes/pastries, pineapple buns, mooncakes, cakes, buns, breads, custards... Eats: most wrapped in plastic, has sell by date, made in commissary off site, daily deliveries.. Purple romance (ube flavored, 2.99) -big oval doughy bun with baked sweet tasty ube taste Egg pudding (2.99) -velvety sweet custard with caramel topping, flan-like Pastry date(2.90) -dozens of ingredients, mains: dates, sugar, white beans Very sweet. Pork sung puff (2.99) -big airy, melt in mouth bun with schredded pork jerky (pork sung) within. On point traditional bun Lg. Sun cookie (1.60) -flaky layers of baked flour flavored with honey/sugar. Resembles a traditional winter melon baked pastry. Sweet cookie has no melon. 3.5 stars. Traditional bakes quality wise better than Fusion versions *service at single register by cashier quick, efficient. English proficient. Most patrons were Cantonese..

"Sheng Kee Bakery" is located in the Marina Faire shopping center in San Leandro, CA. This shopping center is at the crossroads of Doolittle Drive & Fairway Drive, and down the street from Kaiser Hospital @ San Leandro. This is a small store, with all the assorted baked goods and decorated cakes. They also serve coffee, tea, and milk tea. There's no "sit down" cafe area. There's a standing bar for customers to enjoy their drinks and snacks. I was there on a Saturday evening at 6pm. Sheng Kee is in the same small building as the Subway and Round Table Pizza. Free Parking in lot. As you enter, they will have the familiar tray and tongs. All baked goods are packaged. I looked over the decorated cakes, and thought they were a bit pricey. When it was time to pay, I stepped up to the counter and an older lady helped me. She didn't seem to speak fluent English, but knew enough to give me the total and point to my credit card and smile. Everything was bagged up and I was on my way. It's nice that Sheng Kee is just a bit closer to my home.

This five star review is specifically for their cake. I love that they have cakes readily available without preordering. I was a bit disappointed that there is no room for writing but when I cashed out, the cashier gave me a cute little "happy birthday" topper and offered me settings which included plates, forks, and candles! It's a one stop shop for any special event. Highly recommend getting your cakes here. And the cake was absolutely delicious, fluffy & not overly sweet!

Came in here on Chinese New Years Day, they weren't busy. Just like 85, pick out what you like and pay. We tried the cocktail buns, it was good. The Char Siu Sou (Chinese BBQ Pork Puff Pastry) had no flavor.

Moving on to service, the workers there do a great job attending costumers despite it being over flooded by so many people quite often. As for the atmosphere I'd say it feels a bit constricting especially when there's so many people there but honestly the feeling after getting a taste of the ice cream makes it worth it.

Overall, it's been a good experience every time. Parking can be challenging depending on the time of day. Most of the parking is on the street, so you'll need to keep an eye out for pedestrians and bicyclists while looking for a spot. That's probably the biggest inconvenience of visiting this place. There is usually a 15 to 20-minute wait whenever we come for dessert, but we've always been seated within the quoted wait time, which we appreciate. The restaurant itself is fairly small, so the dining area can feel crowded. Tables are very close together, and you're practically sitting back-to-back with other guests. Because of this, the noise level can get pretty high, and it's easy to overhear conversations from nearby tables. The desserts are the highlight here. The BingSu is excellent, and the lava cake is one of our favorites. The menu is accessed through a QR code, making ordering simple and convenient. Food portions are decent, although prices are definitely on the premium side. Service is efficient, and the food and desserts usually arrive pretty quickly. We used to go to their city location regularly, but over the years we've found ourselves visiting this location more often because the area feels more comfortable and convenient for us. That has made this our go-to spot whenever we're craving dessert. Overall, this is a great place for dessert. The quality of the desserts keeps us coming back, but the difficult parking situation and cramped seating prevent it from being a full 5-star experience. Would definitely return for the BingSu and lava cake.

It gives off such a welcoming, community-centered vibe -- like they genuinely want people to come in, enjoy good food and drinks, hang out, relax, and just have a good time. I was indecisive while ordering because there's just too many goodies to choose from and IK that can be annoying, but we had great service because the guy that took our order was patient and seen that my struggles was most definitely real . We ordered mozzarella sticks, popcorn chicken, curly fries, and two large Thai teas -- one with green apple jelly topping, which paired sooo well to me hehe. We don't eat out much because we cook at home nowadays, so when we do, we wanna enjoy the classics lol. It's actually really cool seeing how the place has evolved over the years. The very first time we came, the back area looked like this cute little library/study hall/tutoring/game/hangout room. Then a couple years into the COVID days, it turned into a unique snack and gift shop vibe. Now it's this awesome mini arcade/lounge setup with comfy seating, sports on TV, and really great food (savory & sweets) and drinks. And the food is SOLID. Even on my last mozzarella stick, I still had a cheese pull -- and it had already been at least like 20-30 minutes. That says a lot on the quality. What also makes this place stand out is the little acts of kindness. Part of their service is while we were already getting busy, grubbing, they randomly offered us a complimentary yummy, soft, and fluffy eggette on a stick with their condensed milk sauce, which gave me that feeling like how a love one would just randomly give something very sweet just because. I don't go out much anymore, but if I'm craving for some outside sweets and treats oh and almost forgot to mention how pretty affordable for the quality and portions we got for our meal, I'm def bringing my nieces n nephews here when they visit! I love the different chairs, décor, games, ambiance, food, and drinks! They keep everything so clean, neat, and organized at the station from where you sanitize your hands, grab your napkins, straws and condiments-- it genuinely feels like there's something here for everyone.
