Firstly, I would like to commend the woman who answers the phone. She was very professional and helpful. Her job seemed to be to transfer the calls to Oscar, who seemed to be the main person to put together projects. Oscar would call me but unfortunately, he did not show up as he promised on a Sunday and then on a Tuesday to assess my needs! I needed a dead pecan tree removed and to fix branches of surrounding trees that were damaged by the burly branch that fell from the dead pecan. My complaint is not about the service of this company but solely about the treatment, or lack of from OSCAR. Oscar, I'm sure it is no skin off your back but to treat possible clients like you did is disrespectful. During a wind event here in the SFV when all the tree services were super busy with down trees I could only get estimators to come out same day. That's until I called Oscar Lunares. Once I explained that the work had to do with two large Pine Tree branches ready to come down over power and cable lines after the cracked up high 60', from heavy winds. He came out within an hour and he and his worker started immediately on resolving the issue. To say this man's expertise is amazing would be doing him a dis-service. Not only did he do an amazing job he worked past sundown high up in the tree securing the heavy branches until the morning when he returned to work an additional several hours until the job was finished and cleaned, even leaving fire wood behind for next season. Gave me the runaround - acted interested, but never showed up. I called and received a call back from the office secretary, and was told they would call me later that afternoon. I knew from them not showing up, I shouldn't really expect a follow up call, and I never got it, so I'm happy I didn't get my hopes up. Im rating strictly on how they handled my request. They're probably a decent business that does decent work - but don't put in a response if you're too busy, or if you see I don't live in the valley - good business people will let you know that they won't be able to help you once they realize they can't. Good business people don't keep you dangling from a string waiting for a call. Like I said, I can't rate their work, but they get 2 stars because the office secretary was pleasant, and she actually deserves 5 stars if I were only rating her because that's the only thing they got right. read more

The owner Gregg is a very hard working man, and his team is very professional and get the job done efficiently.

The owner(s) of Sherman Oaks Tree Service should be ashamed of themselves. The wood chipper they brought onto the job site is so old and worn out that it belches out big, thick, black clouds of dense diesel smoke heavily laden with particulates and stinking diesel fumes. We have enough pollution in the Los Angeles area without them adding to it. Every time they would shove a limb or branches into the chipper it belched out giant plumes of disgusting black smoke. I would not give them the time of day let alone a job until they correct their equipment. This is heinous. On top of that they left pine needles and branches everywhere in spite of the fact that their bid included cleaning up the debris from their tree trimming. We paid very high prices - higher than the competition because they promised to do a better and more thorough job. They did not. They completely failed to do the job right. read more

I had a bad experience and then I had an odd experience. They came out and gave me a written quote with a date to come back and trim eucalyptus trees in the backyard. The date came and they never showed up. I called and I texted Oscar but nothing. I think they forgot that the date of the work was also a holiday. I've been using Sherman Oaks Tree service since I moved to Sherman Oaks in 1994. When the owner, Gregg, came to my door the first he did was present his license and proof of insurance. Very professional. I've been using his services annually for my brush clearance. He grew up in this town, lives here still and knows all the flora and fauna of Sherman Oaks. He also starts the job just days (if not the next day) after being called. He brings a chipper and a crew (lead by Oscar) who have tree climbing equipment. They clear brush and cut trees carefully and expeditiously. I've seen similar jobs in my neighborhood take DAYS to complete. Sherman Oaks Tree Service typically finishes in a day. The wood is in the chipper and the property is clean of all debris. Fire is a big issue here and skimping should not be an option. Highly recommend. read more

Sherman Oaks Tree Service did an amazing job on my trees! I was specifically concerned about my fruit trees (I have a peach tree and a plum tree). In the past tree trimmers have cut them back so far that they barely survived! Greg's crew thinned them out and brought them down a little but didn't take off all the young growth. I anticipate an a bountiful crop next year! The rest of the trees look great, also. The shape is really nice and they are thinned but not hacked to death. This is my new permanent service! read more

These guys are great -- quick, professional, thorough, and friendly. We've used them for a number of years every spring to do hillside clearance on our back hill -- trimming pines, removal of dead branches and junipers, etc., as well as tree trimming and maintenance in the front yard. I called this company to get a quote. He went out to the site. I then called to get the price of the quote ands he said " AM I GOING TO GET THE JOB?" They did not do what we had talked about, and when I called to ask them why, owner immediately started yelling and cussing at me and called me a liar. Extremely unprofessional, unbelievably rude and unnecessarily confrontational. He did come by the house however so that I can show him what I was talking about, Greg cussed and yelled some more and when he finally came down and gave me a chance to explain, he sort of apologized, and then asked for more business!! $12,000 worth of more business! I would not hire these guys if they were literally the last tree service in California. My neighbor is having them work on her tree and they're spewing wood chips (and small branches) all over the street and into driveways. I pity them if any sticks hit and damage my next door neighbor's car. They covered my car with wood chips because their chipper isn't in good repair AND chipped material comes out of a hole RUSTED in the side of their truck. The crew made no effort to alert neighbors that there might be problems. Maybe they sent out their third tier crew to this small job, but I advise avoid them - you don't need the hassle of your neighbors sending their repair bills to you. I just hope the sticks stop flying soon. read more

Sherman Oaks Tree Service provided excellent service and workmanship. Our job was large - it was a multiday job to cut down 6 large pine trees (50ft tall each) and a plum tree. The job was difficult as it was in a steep canyon. Gregg spent significant time informing us of our options, and provided a creative solution - to reuse the trunks of the trees as soil retention structures. The job was completed at the quoted price (beating the competition) and in a timely fashion. Just had a great experience with Oscar,Brandon and Lalo at Sherman Oaks tree. I called four different tree services on YELP and Sherman Oaks Tree responded quickly and were the only company willing to come by and do an onsite estimate. The others preferred me texting them tree pictures and giving quotes over the phone. When Oscar arrived he had proof of insurance and an extimate sheet already started. He assessed the job, saw a few other smaller trees needing branches trimmed and pointed those out. He negotiated on his price, while adding the extra work he saw and ended up right in the middle of the other 4 bids. Only two companies had liability/workmans comp insurance. Sherman Oaks Tree Service exceeded our expectations in every way. We had an overgrown ash tree that needed extreme pruning, along with about 50 ficus/Hollywood hedge that had never been shaped. There were also a couple of coral trees that needed attention. Our yard was an overgrown jungle. Oscar and his three-man crew arrived on time, completed the entire job in about 3.5 hours, and did a tremendous job cleaning up. We are thrilled with the final result.
