That same friendly, helpful young lady was working the cash register. It took less than 1/2 hour from the time I made the call until my grandson hit the slopes. Sure it sounds routine and not worth a review, but it served as an another reminder for me of the extra value of going to an independent Ace Hardware store, rather than the major chains. I had ran in to a Walmart store along the way. Although I very rarely frequent them, I figured a big store like that would have a sled. They did not, and they sure weren't sorry they couldn't help me. What a difference! I googled "sleds near me" when I was in the Bloomingdale area, and this store popped up. Who knew a hardware store would be the place to buy a sled? Nice sized clean store, wonderful people, in stock, affordable. Witnessed a customer after me being given very poor advice on what product to use. Sad, but common these days. Both aspects are common for JC Licht stores in my experience over the decades. Were they not the only brick and mortar source for the product I wanted, or if I needed advice, I would avoid them.

She had the receipts, and there was a dedicated customer service/return line. Chris was the associate that helped her, and he did a good job. He made sure each box was legit and then easily put the charge back in the original form of payment. Lowes competes with Menards and Home Depot in this area, and it always seems to be the least busy. It is fully staffed, so easy to find help...but I always wonder how well they are doing.

The box didn't look like it had been previously opened. The return was easy, and we bought another rod that looked just like it. Again, we brought it home, and there was no hardware included. This is where it gets frustrating. I took it back again, asked if they could open another box at the store and see if they had the hardware, which it did. I assumed the customer service rep would just give me the hardware, and at some point take the rest of the boxes off the shelves and contact the manufacturer. He said something about not being able to give me something from an open box, and they could give me the brackets but not the mounting screws? I think there might have been a language barrier with this employee. At this point I just took the brackets out of the box, told him it didn't make any sense, and left. (I knew we had screws at home.) What was supposed to be a few hours hanging a curtain rod actually took all day. We won't go back to Lowes again.
