The food was not really fresh when I went. It was about 2:30. I got the sesame chicken. All the other entrees looked like they were all sitting outside for hours. The Kung Pao & Jalepeno chicken looked too slimey, which is why i didn't get it. The sesame chicken was okay. Kind of greasy and the chicken was tough and dry. The noodles were okay. Didn't have much flavor, just tasted like oil and grease. If the food was fresh, I'm sure it would have tasted better. But everything looked like it was sitting out for hours. read more

It's almost impossible to find flavorful gluten free Chinese food. For that alone they get five stars. Major kudos for this establishment which offers so many different gluten free options. The gluten free orange chicken was perfect, generous quantity and not too sweet. The garlic prawns were very flavorful, just wish the portion was a little bigger. The one item we wouldn't order again is the gluten free rice noodles, the meat and vegetables were sitting on top of the noodles (as opposed to being incorporated into the noodles) and so the noodles on the bottom became very gelatinous and didn't absorb any flavor. read more

My husband keeps ordering here. I usually go to Magic Wok. Alas, my husband went to Shi-Foo again tonight for dinner. The chow mein is not good at all. It lacks flavor. The mushroom chicken was good. Orange and red chicken were decent. The broccoli beef tasted weird. Like, the beef didn't taste right. The kung pow chicken also tasted weird. Something just tasted funky - not different or new; funky/wrong. Thankfully, my husband did not order the bbq pork. Last time he ordered it, it literally tasted watered down. It tasted like they cooked it and then immediately rinsed it in the sink. My husband loves this place. The reviews are good. I don't know why but it just isn't good to me. There are so many fast-food style Chinese places that I like a lot. I've never actually disliked one so I can't explain my dislike for Shi-Foo. The food was alright. Their menu was a little confusing, they count the fried rice and chow mein as two separate sides, most Chinese fast food places count them as one. When we arrived early evening about 4 or 5 most of the food choices were low, the fried rice was dry, the chicken kung pao was average(carrots, celery, and water chestnuts used as filler). Been coming here for year great food and great prices! And the people are super nice. But in the last few months the owner has started to get cheap on the food quality using cheap substitute ingredients and saying it's premium. Such as the shrimp and lobster sauce actually just putting a few shrimp and egg drop soup and charging full price used to have at least a dozen shrimp now maybe only five. This is my go-to for Chinese takeout. The food is good and not too greasy. Prices did go up, but they have good-sized portions so it works out. I like their orange chicken and broccoli beef. I love this place! There used to be a few small mom and pop places like this scattered around Chino Hills but over time they have all disappeared. I am so happy to have found Shi-Foo! You can either do buffet style or 'made to order' dishes. I've done both and each time, it's always good! My favorite dishes are the Mongolian beef mixed with chow mein (made to order) and the combo #2 with half and half, beef and green beans, and orange chicken. Pictured here is half chow mein, half fried rice, beef and green beans and BBQ pork (first time trying it). The BBQ pork wasn't bad but I definitely would prefer the orange chicken over it. The owner is also super nice! He always tries to throw in 2 free egg rolls to my order but I usually decline because it's so much food I'm always struggling to eat just half of it! I always get two meals out of it so it's great for left overs. And unlike Panda Express, the meat is always tender and lean. I am so picky about my food and I absolutely refuse to eat at Panda Express because their meat is always so fatty! Here, I have yet to come across any pieces that are 90% fat, which is a big winner for me. Their Thai tea is also really good and I think it's a good price for how big of a glass they give you compared to other places. I like supporting small businesses. Never really had bad food here. Today I come in and another customer, unmasked, rushes in behind me. No one was working up at the front. As we were waiting the other customer goes to the cash register. The worker then comes out on the phone taking an order. The other customer is talking over her asking questions while she is taking the phone order. I tell the gentleman excuse me I believe I was here first. His answer "well I ordered soup". The worker then hangs up phone and automatically takes his order. I wait until transaction is done and then I told the worker. I was here first but you just served him. I discovered this place when my family wanted Chinese food for dinner and I didn't feel like driving to the opposite side of Chino Hills. The walnut shrimp, sweet and sour pork, orange chicken, brown rice and Thai iced tea are super delicious! I also ordered Kung Pao tofu, chicken with green beans, and egg rolls. The quart of brown rice and a pint of noodles were free because of all the entrees I ordered. The owner is very nice and gave me a 5% discount for paying cash. There are many running clubs in the area and the people that live in my neighborhood are very active/fit/healthy. He told me all the meat is thoroughly trimmed and you can always ask for less oil. He offered me tons of other things that are not on the menu as well. All the food I got was made to order but there are entrees that already made on the steam table. The teriyaki chicken looks really good. I would order that with brown rice and a Thai iced tea next time :P read more

The reviews are awesome for this place, so I decided to give it a try. Let me start with the customer service at the front counter is outstanding. Now to the food, at first glance it set up for the most part like a Panda Express of Pick up Sticks. I'm not really down with heat lamp food so I noticed on their digital menu board that they do food to order. Bingo, I'll pay a little extra and get something fresh as opposed to food that's been sitting out for who knows how long. I got the chicken, with Mongolian sauce. It was pretty good but you better like onions because the dish was half onions. I'm cool with onions so I enjoyed my meal. I also tried the Thai Tea with Bo Ba, as other Yelpers were raving about it. The tea was good enough. So what's the bottom line? We'll my meal was better than most fast food order at the counter Chinese restaurants. The Thai Tea is good if you're into that thing. The best part of my meal was the nice location it's located at. I'm sorry to say it but the food was under mediocre. I got a 3 item combo and the reason this will get a 2 star is because of the noodles and the orange chicken was just ok. This is like every other quick service Chinese place: convenient, already made to choose from, and tasty. Difference they advertise is no GMO and no high fructose, corn syrup. You can adjust the level according to your taste, it's not premixed, which I appreciate. Food is freshly made and wok cooked. Authentic Chinese food but in a fast food convenient way. Panda, you're still cute but you have been replaced. :) The biggest difference is that when they load your plate, they don't have the shakes. What are the shakes you ask? Well, if you ever go to a Panda Express, you'll notice their staff always have the shakes. They scoop up your food and shake-shake-shake-shake-shake-shake-shake all the way to your plate, leaving you with a tiny mound of orange chicken that even the pizza-carrying-rat in New York would scoff at. So the 4 1/2 stars simply does not do Shi-Foo justice! This certainly was a wise choice for a birthday meal to say the very least. The staff is amazing and the thing that stuck in my mind the most was the care the owners put into what they do. I say that because literally as I went to sit down at the table with my wife we struck up a conversation about pretty much everything under the sun. However, it was the acknowledgement of checking in on Yelp that impressed me by far. In all my years of yelping I have never had that happen and it shows passion for the consumer who walks in and out. Massive kudos there! At first I looked around and wondered why there was not food sitting out in the heat trays, but boy did I learn why. There were so many ways to cook things that they offer and cook to order does come to mind. We had an order of garlic shrimp cooked to order which was outstanding and tasted so fresh. It was such a massive difference hearing that food doesn't sit around freezing for days on end and it definitely correlates into each bite for sure. I also had the honey walnut shrimp which is a "secret" item, but after how beautifully prepared it was I'd like to keep it secret too. Ha-ha. The shrimp was once again cooked to a culinary masterpiece and the breading was not overbearing and the sauce was just the right hint of sweet. By far the best honey walnut shrimp I have had to date! For the "main course" I had a 2 item combo. I did actually love the chow mien as the health radiating from the noodles was a refreshing concept. I'm used to the taste being so greasy or having a heavy feeling and it was nice to feel light after eating such a hearty helping. I set my sights on the orange chicken and sesame chicken and I did not regret that either. Each did the other justice for sure. The breading was light and the flavoring was on point. All in all knowing this exists made me want to move back to Chino Hills again, but at the very least I will certainly be back to try out more and commend them for all they do. Off the top, I could see the first thing that sets them apart, from the other Americanized Chinese fast food is the chicken dishes. The chicken pieces in the orange and sesame dishes are big chunks with a low batter ratio, w/ lots of chicken to the bite. Off the steam table, I also tried the green bean/beef, and the jalapeno chicken. They were both good with a low gravy mix. If you're feeling creative, they will design a dish for you; you choose meat, noodle type, and gravy type, viola, a custom meal for under $10. that comes with a side of rice/veggie/chow mein. They also state on their menu, and I can see from the Yelp pics, that they will make whatever type of dish you want if they can. The manager is very social and eager to please. Love their restaurant name since it's creative and unique. Food 3.5/5 orange chicken with noodles. The orange chicken are huge chunks of meat! Little batter which is diff from other Chinese fast food. Huge plus in my books. The only downside was it was dry. I got it from the to go food (didn't know they served made to order dishes) and seems like it was sitting around, but I had my eyes set on orange chicken. I did go at an off time, 430, so it may have been sitting there from the lunch. Flavor was good, but missing the crunch and moisture. The noodles were good. Service 5/5. I do not like dining in here, its small and a poor atmosphere. I used to love the fresh food but not anymore. First visit: We dined in and ordered soup for dine-in. We received our soup in a to-go container and it was far too hot to eat and also difficult to eat. It was awkward for me and my guests which were from out of town. I also tried to ask for additional forks which were unavailable at the self-service. This most recent visit was just awful. I ordered two custom dishes. One was shrimp with snow peas in white sauce and the other chicken kung pao with no zucchini. It didn't come with zucchini so that is a relief. They did not have snow peas so I substituted green beans. Unfortunately they must have been out. I got shrimp with green beans, bell peppers, zucchini, and onions. It was gross and disappointing since I do not like zucchini or bell peppers. And onions in white sauce just did not work. I realize they were about to close but at least let me know you were out. I realized this when I got home. Its sad because I have been coming here a long time and its just progressed downhill. Probably won't be back unless I am desperate or its a holiday. What a great find, hidden in the middle of Chino Hills! Ok, so their regular Chinese Food (the quickie stuff that's out, standard amongst nearly all the Chinese Fast Food Places) is pretty decent. But what really makes this place stand out is there cooked to order meals. You get to choose your noodle, sauce and protein. I prefer the Magnolia sauce for the little kick it gives ya.
