For what it is.. It's amazing. It's nice to have basic rolls at an inexpensive price to satisfy the sushi cravings w/o spending a whole lot of money. I enjoy being able to choose from different types of rolls. The ambiance is ok.. Service is ok.. But I don't go for either the service or ambiance. I'll go again when I crave sushi. I must say.. They do not have spicy rolls.. They'll put spicy mayo or Sriracha, but still not spicy. read more

I'll add pictures when I can but I just had to leave a review and say this place is honestly incredible!! Some of the rolls come with a crab, tempura, jalapeño salad thing that is seriously out of this world. The service is beyond kind and personable, they're always accommodating, and I couldn't imagine a more people friendly atmosphere. Their selection of rolls is vast and the hand rolls are a perfect ratio of fish to rice. I wish they had an all you can eat option but that's the only thing id change because they're completely top notch. It was by far the worst sushi I have ever had. I've bought pre-made from supermarkets that was better. We ordered soup before the sushi that didn't show up till after the sushi. Hands down the absolute best sushi in the Treasure Valley! We have made the rounds over the years and finally determined that Shige's was the very finest, consistently good every single time! Unfortunately for Boise, but fortunately for Meridian, Shige himself and his staff have moved over to Shige Express in Meridian, bringing their expertise and yummy menu with them. Our absolute favorite is the hamachi sashimi which is always delicious and never disappoints. Other faves are the Five Star roll, the KC, the Dynamite and the Bronco rolls. Everything is really good here, and I highly recommend checking it out. We are blessed to have such great sushi away from the coast!! read more

Best cabbage salad EVER! My friend ordered the Chicken Teriyaki lunch and it was cooked and great. Here's where the problem lies...I ordered the Chicken Yakitori and it came half cooked ( meaning STILL RAW)- the server set it down on the table with a measly little blue flame fire and told me to finish cooking it. What? The fire burned out- it was still raw when i looked inside the piece of Chicken. It terrifies me that some people would have eaten it uncooked and most likely would have become ill. I understand Sushi is raw but Chicken should never be raw. I will go back for more salad though. read more

My favorite sushi restaurant for many years now. I'm pleased they are so much closer to me in Meridian, it makes ordering delivery a breeze especially during COVID where I am doing as much as I can to avoid unnecessary outings. The Chef & Server Creations are the absolute bomb as far as deliciousness goes. The KC Roll is my hands down favorite, it has never disappointed and the Heavy Metal is a close second. read more

We love this place, the waitress was very friendly and helpful. My son says it's his favorite place because of the boats. The chef is an authentic Japanese sushi chef and uses all authentic ingredients. He was always happy to make dishes from the picture menu my 10 year old requested and was thrilled a kid loved all types of sushi. Being a former waitress at a sushi restaurant I would advise to not eat here. It would not have been as bad if the restaurant was clean. Soy sauce bottles were dirty and tasted watered down. Iced tea was super cloudy and tasted old/musky. My fiancé is a sushi enthusiast from Portland and he had to spit out his hamachi nigiri in fear of getting sick. We were really sad to try somewhere new and have it go the way it did especially because the restaurant is locally owned. This place is great. Authentic Japanese sushi chef knows what he is doing. Fish, rice and miso is all fresh and the assortment of fish is impressive. The cuts of fish were very thick my husband and I had appetizers soups salads and main entree for 40$- can't beat this place for a date night. Shige Express became increasingly disappointing with each visit. I've been there a total of 4 times. I'm not going back. I understand Shige is supposed to be a place to get cheap sushi; therefore, I did lower my expectations. And kept lowering them. Generally, I'm happy with little boats of "okay" sushi, as long as they come round consistently. I'm hungry. I know I'm not in for, say, Happy Fish - or any sushi place on the left or right coasts. Each time I've been here, the "okay" (never delectable) sushi was put out inconsistently and harried-ly. The service was less than stellar each time. We've had to ask for: 1) wasabi (!); 2) wasabi that wasn't weirdly stale (?); and, 3) napkins and chopsticks. Often, twice, with response by a frantic waitstaff. Twice, I've been told, "We can only go so fast!" by a sweaty, out of breath, irritated chef or sous-chef. And that's when following up on a special order (why even have them on the menu?) that hadn't arrived after 20 minutes. Once, the chef seemed to understand I was irritated by his response, and attempted to hug me at the end. Really? I prefer my chefs distant, focused and fabulous. read more

New sushi place in town? $1 sushi boats! We had to try it out immediately, so Dad & I had a late lunch at their Grand Opening. We got there around 1, and all the boats were empty. It's OK, we don't mind waiting for a good thing. There were three sushi chefs in the peninsula surrounded by the boats, and they got cranking! The chefs asked what each diner liked, and made sushi accordingly. Some they handed right to us, and others they placed on the boats. In addition to sushi, $1 items also included seaweed salad and tako (octopus) salad. For those not into the 'boat' offerings, they have a full menu. Service was very good on our first visit. My soda was kept full. Subsequent visits have left us disappointed. Their service has gone downhill, and they've been out of various items like seaweed salad, out of tako salad, etc. Guess we'll keep getting our dollar sushi at Sakana or hitting the AYCE spots Yoi Tomo or IOU. read more

I should have believed the bad reviews. We stayed down the street at the KOA and were happy to find a strip mall full of food options. The night before we had delicious pizza, so on our way out of town we decided on Sushi. There was a small group of people having lunch, and a couple singles here and there so we sat at the bar. There were only two people working out front in the restaurant. A waitress who had no filter and joked about customers as they left, and a "sushi" chef who shared the same attitude. As I was eating I couldn't help but wonder when the last time they cleaned their bar was. I am used to sushi places being pristine, but even the menus had food smears on them. The food itself was weird on top of everything. The sushi boats were made up of deep fried whatever, plus sauce and fake crab thrown on. The vegetable roll had pickles and lettuce, which as far as I know isn't typically Japanese. This place was definitely an experience I would rather forget. read more

Shige is a hole. BUT if you can get past the occasional boat blockage, the Bob Marley music and the long 1 hr commitment, you'll be back. They make some great tasting plates, but they're pretty far and few in between and you just gotta sit back, relax (again...the music) and relish all of the subtle pleasures Shige has to offer. Worst food I've ever eaten...even worse than the spoiled horse meat I ate in Russia. I swear the shoe leather meat I was served had been dried in pounds of salt and then reconstituted in soy sauce...PUTRID SALTY food. For a $14 meal, I've had superior military rations out of cans. The sushi was really good and the servers and chefs are really nice, really nice atmosphere, I give it two stars because of the service. It took forever for us to get our drinks, and even longer to get our order in. The place is really cramped. If you want to actually eat, I suggest sitting at the bar on the left side when you first walk in. Otherwise, you will have to wait for the food to come around to you, by then the boats will be empty, and you don't have a chance of grabbing what you want, the chefs only like to refill the boats on the left. Our order was forgotten three different times. We kept having to ask the waitress where our food was. My friend and I didn't eat much, because it took so long to get our food, we were tired of waiting, the other customers around us were getting frustrated as well for the same reasons. Other than all of that, the waitresses were really sweet, and nice. The chefs were nice. The food was good. I guess you just have to go when they are slow and can actually give you attention. Have never left a bad review before but this place deserves it! I was in a hurry and hungry so I thought I would give it a try. First off everything in this place is filthy dirty!!!! Disgusting, I stayed bc I was hungry and and thought to myself I'm not going to judge the food before I eat it. I should have gotten up at the point when I saw the wasabi and ginger that was going around and all the boats have been there so long that it had formed a dark green crust over most of it. When I asked for fresh wasabi and ginger he happily obliged by taking one of the little white plates on the boat that had the crust formed on them and handed it to me I ate two of the black plates one of which was something fried I had no idea what it was and it ended up being cold chicken and the other was a roll which was fine. I ordered the bonsai roll which turned out to be so disgusting I left most of it on my plate. I couldn't wait to leave and almost couldn't stand to touch the door because it was so dirty on my way out. I'm crossing my fingers I don't get sick! read more

Slow service and waitresses were clueless. Had them run outside to chase me down to pay while my husband was standing at the cash register to pay. They said they didn't realize we were together. If it was possible to give zero stars, I would absolutely do so. I have eaten here on three occasions now and can say with out a doubt, I will not be back. The only way I would ever consider is if I learned it was under new ownership and the place was completely overhauled. Of all my experiences, my most recent was by far the absolute worst which leads me to believe this restaurant is on a land hill slide downward. Which I am totally bummed about, because the concept could really be so much fun! Never greeted upon entering. My husband and I sat ourselves at the sushi bar. The place was fairly busy at the bar, only a few open seats remained. We chose the last two together. Upon sitting we noticed our sushi place mats were sticky, tattered and just in need of being thrown out. We flagged down a server and asked for drinks. The server NEVER came back to ask if we wanted to order anything off of the menu, nor did she ever give us a menu to look at. So we started choosing items off the floating boats. Tasted a few that were all right, let a slew of unappetizing ones float by and finally asked the sushi chef if he had a menu. He handed up a tattered up piece of laminated computer paper and NEVER returned to ask if we wanted him to make anything. My hubby then decided to take a chance on a boat we had previously passed up, and literally spit it out into a napkin and grabbed my hand before I put the other piece in my mouth. He said it was the most disgusting thing he has ever tasted and was almost certain it was rotten. I at one point excused myself to use the restroom. Upon entering, I noticed the previous patron did not flush. I reached to do so and discovered the entire flushing handle was completely gone. Like totally broken off and a giant hole in it's place, gone. Lacking options, I lifted the tank lid to see if I could pull the chain and the inside was totally broken too. They are lucky I only had to go number one, because I had no choice but to add to what was already there. I am pretty sure this whole situation is a health violation. When we left, we were the last people in the restaurant and we still had to ask for our bill. I will without shame admit I put zero in the field for a tip and came home to eat a bowl of cereal because I was still so hungry.
