I first discovered Tony's while on a New year's eve date when they only had one Bethesda location before heading on to the Kenedy Center. Tony's provided an awesome and romantic experience; food, service, and ambiance were all amazing! I later returned to the Pooks Hill with my adult kids. I spoke to Tony and they even accommodated my vegan son with a specially prepared meal. I myself love lobster special days. I have returned on many holidays such as Mothers day and at Christmas time with family and friends .. always an epic experience for all. I have visited Tony's several times and would like to review the place. I appreciate that they have plenty of waitstaff every time I go there. The restaurant typically has a fair number of patrons and is successful enough to have a second location in Rockville. I've tried several dishes, including seafood, pasta, and pizza. My favorite so far is the spaghetti. I also enjoy their cheesecake. I found it extremely easy to make reservations, and I like that the dishes you order can be tailored to your preferences. So far, the only dish I've ordered for takeout is their pizza, which I found to be filling and reasonably priced. During my visits for meals, the staff has consistently been courteous, helpful, and prompt with service. The only mildly frustrating experience I've had is that they mixed up my drink orders a couple of times. However, I attribute this to the speed at which they prepare everything, considering how many guests they serve daily. It's not a significant issue. I recommend this place for formal business meetings or any planned event. Even though it is not the cheapest restaurant, the food is worth the cost as long as one doesn't go there daily. My family has also enjoyed the restaurant tremendously. My mother's favorite is the lobster night on Thursdays, while my father appreciates the pizza and the variety of beverage choices. A treasure, absolutely love this spot everytime I drop by. Amazingly accommodating and engaging server and the food is always great. Fan favorites are the cream of crab, crab cake, and the pizza. Really interesting place. It's located on the bottom floor of an apartment complex (or maybe they are condos, I'm not sure) and you have to drive through security gate to get in. We went this time to try the pizza. They have a nice patio area but we decided to sit inside by the bar. The pizza was good and flavorful, Detroit style pizzas. Drinks were good as well. The only thing we didn't care for was the banana cream pie dessert. The banana topping and filling was nice but we didn't like the crust. I saw Chef Tony's on Yelp and was meeting a friend for dinner, and she only lived 5 minutes away so we thought we would try it. It's a little tricky to find. You must go up to the guard gate at the Promenade Co-op development, they give you a parking pass, and then you make a left and another left into the parking lot. There is one entrance to the building, a short building between the two tall buildings. Once in the lobby, look for a staircase down on your right. At the bottom of the stairs, go through the doors, make a right and up the hallway on the left is a small sign that says "restaurant." That's it. Inside, there is a small bar area to the left, and then a medium-sized dining room to the right that includes a few booths. The outside wall is all windows, overlooking a large patio with a pool off in the distance. It's very pretty and upscale. There were some dinner specials. We ordered the tomato, buffalo mozzarella, and grilled watermelon salad to share. It was delicious! I loved the salty mozzarella and the sweet, ripe tomato, along with the watermelon and drizzle of balsamic glaze. I ordered a small plate instead of a big entree and settled on the fillet mignon satay. It was a skewer of small pieces of beef, cooked medium to perfection, along with a nice mound of tasty cucumber salad and 2-3 slices of plantains. I was full by the time finished. I think next time, I would order two small plates. There were many wonderful things on the menu that I'd like to try. It's not a cheap meal, but there are plenty of reasonable options. I'm sorry to have to write this review. I really wanted to like it. No problem whatsoever in making the reservation, and even on a Saturday night, would not have needed it. Not that many patrons. There really is NO ambiance, here. Little color, dingy, utilitarian. Promptly greeted and watered, no bread placed or offered. Our server struggled, a bit with English and the menu and wasn't really able to offer any recommendations or answer menu questions. Appetizers came out in good order; calamari could have been good but left an oily aftertaste. Salads were wilted and pedestrian. Stuffed mushrooms were uber-hot (not warned about serving dish), but the butternut squash soup was lukewarm. Polar opposites. Server returned to advise that one of our diner's entree choice was not available. Happens, but she should have known prior to taking the order. Entrees arrived without delay; but, my order was incorrect. Server stated that she heard me order what was served; other tablemates disagreed. She offered to have it remade...10 minutes. Not an option for me; can't keep four other diners waiting, so accepted the incorrect offering. My linguini with shrimp was not edible. Not certain what the white sauce was, but thick, flour paste-like, and supposedly, with a piece of crab buried in the midst, but I thought it to be a piece of soft bread! No hint of crab flavor. The dish was a total miss. I ate the 4 medium-sized shrimp and left the rest. Table mate ordered a market price lobster. Presented nicely, but without the menu-listed accompaniments....just a lobster on a plate. Not even a lemon. Wife ordered a small portion of pasta with a side of eggplant parm. She received a huge plate of pasta and full order of eggplant, served separately --- undercooked in the middle. A mountain of mediocre food. Throughout the meal, the volume and choice of background music varied greatly. Had to request that the volume be decreased.....couldn't hear. And, by 7pm, most of the patrons had left. I had heard from others about Chef Tonys. I heard the seafood was fantastic. I thought I would check it out. Upon arrival, I did not realize the restaurant was located on the ground floor of a condo high-rise. There is security you have to stop and see to get a parking pass to enter the property. The property parking should be ample for the restaurant and the nearby arcade. The signage for the restaurant is small but enough to maneuver your way through the hallway to fond the restaurant. The restaurant space is fairly small and older. The aroma, however, is bold and exciting. The crab staffed mushrooms were very flavorful. A tad too much mustard in the mix for me other very good. The lobster was very good and a great size. It is served ith sqaush and potatoes. The canoli was just OK. I had a couple of mixed drinks. They were OK as well. Overall, it's great food. I came here on a Friday with my husband and son. My friend had given me a gift card to Chef Tony's that I had been holding onto for awhile so I was very excited to give this place a try. The restaurant is actually inside a high rise community so I was honestly a little confused turning into the community... I thought Google Maps had steered me wrong. This Chef Tony's location is inside of a residential community, you have to let the parking gate keeper know once you arrive. We had no issues finding parking and a few residents walking outside were kind enough to direct us to the 'Arcade' entrance where the restaurant is located a few steps from. There is both indoor and outdoor seating available as well as high chairs for children. My husband and I ordered a few dishes to try and share: - Half a Dozen Local Oysters - These are from the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. The oysters were large and it came with cocktail sauce and two lemon wedges to flavor the oysters. - Cream of Crab Soup - I really liked this soup, you can really taste the Old Bay flavor. There are lumps of crab meat sprinkled throughout the soup. Any fan of crabs would love this soup :) - Dad's Crab Pasta - This comes with lump crab meat, curry accented tomato cream sauce and linguine pasta. This reminded me of a Buttered Chicken flavor. I would definitely order this again next time I come back! - Maryland Style Crab Cake - This comes with a huge crab cake made up of crab meat (zero filler), garlic mashed potatoes and daily veggies. Thursday Lobster Night at Chef Tony's is seriously legit!!!!! All three people in our part had the lobster special. It was so so good. Perfectly cook and they were huge. A nice touch was that the staff perfectly cracked the lobster and the claws in such a way that every single delicious lobster was not wasted. Another great treat was that the tomalley was left with the lobster. So so good It just gave that lobster the extra layer of umami. i slathered mine on top of the potato medallions and hubby just used their soft warm bread to sop up the yumminess. I guess for those folks who are a bit squeamish with having the tomalley left on the lobster, they can ask the staff to leave it out. But to do so is to miss out on so much of what makes the lobsterry flavor. We also had their fried oysters and oysters on the half shell plus some really excellent mushroom appetizers. They were very satisfying and were just enough to whet our appetites for the main course. The price for 3, one a half pound lobsters did not break the bank. In fact, the total bill left us in such a good mood that we as family decided then and there that we will on the reg have lobster at Chef's Tony's for our Thursday night treat. read more

Chef Tony's has so much going for it. Great location, off the beaten path, in a gated condo. Parking is pretty easy. Getting to the restaurant is fun, a little like Henry and Karen entering the Copa to see Bobby Vinton in Goodfellas. The restaurant is on the Arcade level and is sleek, fresh, and well-lighted. There is a separate bar area with softer lighting and an outdoor patio as well. The dishes I've ordered or tried have all been solid. The portions are more than generous, which is nice to know with prices everywhere being higher. My favorite is Dad's Crab Pasta. They also have Pizza, Detroit style. My go-to is the 4-4-2. Deep dish, sausage, bacon, ample sauce, milder cheese blend, hot honey drizzle... Most recently tried the mushroom pizza. I could eat that every day. The pizza is an acquired taste. The sauce is on the "sweet" side, which I like, and there is plenty of it, I like that too. You can opt in to receiving text messages/ from them, which can be nice, if you want to know about specials and such. I landed at Reagan Airport on Thursday to attend a friend's wedding on Friday and was looking for a great place to eat. I decided to try Chef Tony's--and I'm so glad I did. From good food to great service. The crab soup was delicious and just the right portion size, especially since I didn't want anything too heavy. The oysters were large and fresh. I originally wanted the snapper, but since they were out, I went with the bronzino, and it was a great substitute--cooked perfectly. The crab cake was packed with real crab meat and full of flavor. The potatoes were seasoned just right and very tasty. Even the side of bread (which they ask if you'd like) reminded me of something nostalgic--simple and satisfying, like an elevated version of something you'd enjoy as a kid. The Pooks Hill Rd location is very difficult to find and there is no signage anywhere on the access road (located inside of a large high-rise.) I had the scallop entree with mashed potatoes and vegetable medley. The scallops were SMALL and there were just 4. They were the size of quarters. Disappointed but they tasted good. The surf and turf consisted of a vegetable medley, grilled shrimp, scallops and a skewer of filet mignon...I disliked the cut of filet as I got a lot of gristle. The scallops on the surf and turf were bigger than the entree scallops which was NOT cool. I recommend a different cut of meat that isn't cut into a kebab, maybe medallions would be better. Or a whole cut of a filet. Prices are good but portions are small. The restaurant is adjacent to the main hall of the building and it is not draped so it is very well-lit inside. read more

First, we went for our friend's 68th birthday; we were all happy when we drove up to the guarded booth that you have to stop at before proceeding to the restaurant. However, the guard, Victor (sp?) was very rude. We asked him which way and he just pointed over there (right that is all he said-over there). I asked where and he became agitated and said abruptly "over there". I asked him -- which way do I go? He said either way, right or left. I was looking at his name tag and he abruptly said you want my name, it's Victor (sp?). I just pulled off and went to the right, which was the right way to go. You could not get into that lot going to the left. Anyway, once you get past the rude man manning the booth, you will have a fantastic meal. Oh, one other thing -- the atmosphere is not your usual dining room. It's clean and comfortable; however, it's not like your usual 4 or 5 star atmosphere. But, let me tell you, the food is 5+ stars. OMG -- the food is magnificent, with one exception-- the oysters app was over cooked, but everything else was divine. The Caesar salad was to die for. My sister had the stuffed shrimp with noodles and the birthday girl had the salmon with mash potatoes. We were all oohing and aahing; and the service was fabulous. Second, please try this place; you won't be disappointed. But if Victor, the guy manning the booth, is having another bad day, just ignore him and go have a wonderful meal. Went to Chef Tony's on Wilkenson Ave. in Rockville last night. The kitchen must have been auditioning for the "Worst Cooks in America" show. It was a disaster. Both my friend and I love white pizza and we had heard they had good white pizza. I looked at the menu and saw they also had cream of crab soup which I ordered along with a white pizza with anchovies. My friend ordered a white pizza with black olives and a beer. My soup came, the roux had been burned, and the soup was medium brown. Cream of crab soup should be white. I tasted it and the chef had dumped a salt shaker in the bowl. It was absolutely inedible. I sent it back. That was just for starts. The waiter then brought one pizza which we could see was covered in black olives. My friend said that it was his. He took one bite and said what is this and dug out an anchovy. We called the waiter over and said explained that I had ordered a pizza with anchovies and he had ordered a separate one with black olives, two separate pizzas not one pizza with two toppings. He took it back to the kitchen and 10 minutes later came back with two pizza in round soup bowls. When you tried to cut it it slid all over the bowl. We asked for flat plates which when they brought them were metal pizza baking trays. They could have given us a dinner plate instead. When my friend tried to cut his it was so burned on the bottom he could not cut through it. He sent it back and said he would just have the beer. Mine was not quite a badly burned so I soldiered though and cut it up. When I tasted it they had overdone the anchovies and it was so salty you could barely eat it. You need to put anchovies on in modest amounts. We were ready to go and asked for our separate bills. The waiter brought over the bills and we gave him our credit cards. My friend said he was not going to leave a tip ( do you blame him). The waiter had this table side card reader which you sign and select a tip amount from 'no tip" to 20%. As my friend was not goin he did not select anything. When he got his receipt it showed he had made a 15% tip. It seem that it you do not select a tip amount the machine automatically puts in 15%. That was the final straw. We will NEVER EVER go back to Chef Tony's. read more

This is our first visit to this location. It is a little hidden in the Pooks Hill area, located inside of the Promenade community. Go to the gate and they will give you a parking pass and direct you to the parking lot. When you get out, look for the Arcade sign and enter the building through those doors. They have plenty of seating in 3 areas: patio, inside, and bar. Spacious. The staff and service were top notch. So what to get? We were here for their Thursday Lobster Special (1.5 lb Lobster with season vegetables and potatoes). They definitely did not disappoint. The lobster was perfectly cooked and the sides were as delicious as the lobster. We also got the cream of crab soup and stuffed mushrooms. Stuffed mushrooms were a hit; unfortunately the cream of crab soup was not. It wasn't horrible, it just wasn't great. By the way, the complimentary bread and olive oil were delicious. Not sure if it's the bread or the olive oil or both that made it so good. Probably both. My husband wanted the banana cream pie with caramelized banana for dessert even before we got there. Even though we were stuffed, we ordered one to share. It was so so so good. We devoured it in no time. Definitely will be back. UPDATE: We did return and got more lobsters also a Hemi pizza to go. A dispiriting, utilitarian room & underwhelming food -- eg my deeply-fried zucchini had crunch but no flavor, my crab cake nearly flavorless & dry, served with a sludge of lukewarm mashed potatoes and kind of shredded veg & the ice cream was nicely flavored but crunchy with ice crystals that suggested too long in the freezer. Staff pleasant but a little too attentive- plates whisked away as companions were still eating. If you go, call for directions b/c no "how to find us" on theor web site & without asking a very gracious walker, who would know, after driving twice around the restaurant's high rise home,to go in to a ground floor entrance whose "Arcade" sign was almost completely obscured by scaffolding. Tuesday through Friday from 4:00 to 5:30 and Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00, some great appetizers are half price when you order heavily discounted wine, beer, or mixed drinks. Also, some of the largest fresh oysters, at $1.95 each. Every time my wife and I go for happy hour we leave full and pleased. Some highlights (all under $10 at hh): crab stuffed baked mushrooms; filet mignon sate with yummy plantains and cucumber salad; a bowl of tasty mussels with a sauce with bacon, tomatoes, and beans; roasted Brussel sprouts; fried calamari; large grilled shrimp; and more. We even finished things off today with a giant crème brûlée garnished with fresh strawberries for $10 (enough for two). The bar area tables are mostly small, but there is also outdoor seating. Parking is easy outside the back entrance of their condo building. The $4 beer selection had over 10 bottle and draft choices. A win-win and we even love their choice of Motown bar music. read more

Shoutout to our local community heroes! A special thanks to Chef Charles, Ethan, Pablo, and staff for an amazing dinner service. We got a special invitation from Chef Charles to try out this venue... I thought the entrance Unique. We were told by the gate attendant to park in front parking lot where a sign says "Arcade". So we went in and then looking down the hall see rows of bright lights in front of rows of doors. It is very hypnotizing, like a scene off the Matrix. Anyways, we saw a hair salon and across from there was a sign atop a door that says "restaurant". There's a friendly hostess, we informed her that we had a reservation, but I don't think that we needed on for tonight @5:30pm. Restaurant dining room is to the right and then there was a full bar to the left of the hostess. There's bar top seating and tables. It was raining today, but we note that there's also outdoor seating on the patio. We had the choice of a booth or table and chairs. We had an attentive waiter named Ethan who was very personable and knowledgeable about the menu. We had delicious mussels with delicious cannellini beans (my favorite), a spinach salad, and a goat cheese salad. I sopped up all the juices from the mussel broth with the complimentary bread. Chef Charles came over to say Hello and confirmed that we had made delicious food choices. Then the amazing Detroiter pizza came out in all it's glory! A bounty of savory meats, decadent cheese, rich marinara, and pizza dough perfection! I loved the crunch, the freshness, the melody of flavors of the beautiful salads ... but when I tasted the pizza, it was hard to notice anything else on our table! Cheese pull was awesome! And I savored every single moment of pizza heaven. Yes, it was a special moment ! I'm so picky about pizza, so I had to give my 5 stars to the One and Only, Chef Charles for his pizza that still made me want to keep eating to I had to give in... and boxed up our treasured leftovers for home! After we paid out with Ethan, we went over to see what Chef Charles and Pablo were bartending at the other side. We had a delicious Old Fashioned and a refreshing Fat Tire ale. There's also lots of nice wines, liquors, and beers. Lots of Shirley Temples being ordered... so cool to watch the process! Pablo was fast, efficient, and hard working! Chef Charles was such a good orchestrator when it time to the bar drinks, the food plates, the customers, and the staff. It was "Yes, Chef" and "Thank you, Chef" in a symphony of sound from the busy kitchen, the happy patrons, and the salutations of residents who were waving and cheering as we all enjoyed the dinner service together. I think this was a win ! Great venue here at Chef Tony's! We took home a 1/2 dozen glorious cannolis (which our kids adored and happily devoured ) .... The restaurant is located on the first floor of a high rise in Bethesda, Maryland. In order to even get to the parking lot you have to stop at a security kiosk at the gate, and get a temporary parking pass for your vehicle. There is plenty of parking spaces reserved for customers so do not worry too much. The restaurant itself has both indoor and outdoor seating available depending on the weather. The interior was cozy with a modern flair to it, rather than the traditional Italian restaurants you are used to seeing. The outdoor bricked patio was very spacious with about eight tables, or so, and was sparsely dressed with a few strings of lights, and some bushes. If this was my restaurant I would definitely try and brighten the ambiance of the outdoor dining area with some potted flowers, and perhaps some other exterior decorations to give off a more welcoming vibe, but that is me. The food was very good. We started off with the calamari, which was fresh, crispy, and delicious. For our main course, we ordered a dinner special called the Platinum Platter. It consisted of a 1.5lb lobster in a seafood stew. The lobster was a decent size for the price, and the stew itself was made up of scallops, shrimp, and mussels, all topped off with crab meat. The stew broth was very tasty, but did not overpower the flavor the seafood, which I liked. The platter also came with a side of seasoned rice. This was a nice addition to help absorb all the butteriness of the seafood stew broth. To end the meal we ordered the homemade Straciatella ice cream. It came as a bit of a surprise because I knew Straciatella ice cream to be an Italian cream based gelato with slithers of chocolate mixed into it (somewhat similar to a vanilla chocolate chip ice cream). This was nothing of the sort. It was actually black cherry flavored with slithers of chocolate in it. Now do not get me wrong, the ice cream was very good, it just was not what I was expecting. All in all, our dinner was very pleasant, and I would definitely like to come back to try their pizza because it looked amazing. My only gripe about the whole evening was the service. Once we were seated at our table, a server only came up to us once to see if we needed anything. As the food came out little by little, no one ever came to our table to refresh our original waters, or ask if we wanted anything else to drink. It took 20 minutes to even get our desert after ordering it, and was just a few scoops of ice cream in a single bowl. Hidden gym in Bethesda for sure! Wife and I found this place via an ad in the mail. Hole in the wall in an apartment complex but the space is big, open, peaceful, and the patio is lovely too. Brunch was delicious and bottomless mimosas were one of the best values we found during our time in the DC metro area. We ate dinner several times and ended up taking friends and family when they would visit because we love it so much. Fried zucchini was always delicious as a starter. I particularly enjoyed the fried red snapper, whole bronzino, and dad's crab pasta. My wife who does not particularly enjoy most seafood became a crab cake lover thanks to the crab cakes here! Delicious no-nonsense crab cakes with abundant lump crab. Dessert was always perfect too from bread pudding to cannolis. Decent wine selection. One time chef Tony brought our bottle to our table which was a really nice personal touch. Tried this place a few weeks ago! Aside from the restaurant being in a weird location ... in a residential building, the food and service was great! We had the grilled Caesar salad, the steak skewers, the crab soup, the Parmesan Crusted Cod, the North Carolina Trout and our daughter had the pesto pasta with chicken. Yes we eat a lot and we would definitely go there again! I'm surprised the place didn't have a lot of people in it or that there are not a lot of reviews for the restaurant but we really really enjoyed it! read more
