I've been driving by the old restaurant for years and always found it depressing. So i was pleasantly surprised when new owners took over this location and completely gutted it. The decor now is pleasing and the atmosphere was very inviting. And, it's always busy! Stopped in for an early dinner...was my 2nd attempt as the last time they had a 45 minute wait. We were seated right away in the bar. Our server came immediately and took our drink order. The owner stopped by and told us about the specials and teased our server once came back! Very playful and fun We ordered the sea scallops special. They were really prepared well and tasted amazing Some were maybe a tad small. Very enjoyable We then ordered the shrimp Étouffée. It was very good, but resembled a shrimp Creole not an etouffee. The difference is an etouffee has a thicker gravy texture vs a light tomato based creole. It was not as spicy as a typical étouffée either BUT, it was very good...so not disappointed at all. I ordered a pizza with goat cheese, Canadian bacon and garlic. The pizza came with extra mozzarella...like over the top extra. The owner stopped by and looked at my pizza and asked if i ordered this way? I hadn't...actually i expected goat cheese without mozzarella. But told her i didn't give those instructions. So my fault. She took my pizza away and said we don't serve pizza this way. First the good: Our server was very courteous, the manager we spoke with was genuinely apologetic and kind, and the ambiance is great. Now the bad: service was slow (though not the slowest I've ever had), the chicken from the chicken sandwich came out still pink in the middle, the mahi mahi in the tacos was dry & overcooked (though spiced very well), the baked potato was still so hard it had to be cut into chunks like boiled potatoes would be, the Nashville hot chicken flavoring on the chicken fingers wasn't flavorful at all, and the kids vs. side of mac & cheese were like 2 different recipes (kids was thick & goopy but good, side was runny, not to mention cold when served). All of these are kitchen issues, and I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt since their sign outside stated they were looking for kitchen help. The last thing was some of the menu options seemed overpriced for what was listed. Maybe not in a touristy Florida restaurant, but definitely here in NWI. As someone both new to Griffith and having lived on the Gulf Coast for several years, I was really excited to see this place as an option. We were good customers until Friday night. All I ordered was the shrimp skewers without the rice because I was advised at my last visit that the rice has gluten. I do not have Celiac Disease but a gluten sensitivity only. I asked "what can we substitute for the rice?" I opted for the baked potato instead of rice. The cost for the shrimp skewer is $14. I wasn't told I would be up charged until after we paid the bill And questioned them. They charged me $19 saying that they use special skillets to prepare the same amount of shrimp. What? You couldn't have told me that beforehand? Anything to squeeze more money out of the customer with not so much as a courtesy that it costs more! Oh and if you want shrimp sauce it's an extra.50 which they don't tell you either. We won't be back because they aren't up front about their pricing policies. Lunch and dinner had been great. They recently started serving breakfast. They need to stop. They were out of what we ordered and what we got was awful. Decided to give them another try for dinner. They were great when they first opened. We went there often. Recently the perch was soggy and full of bones. The floor was full of garbage. We were overcharged for items that were "on special." And they were out of several items that we ordered. The waitress had our bill corrected. She didn't know why our charges were higher than what was posted on the menu. We're done with them. Being new place thought we would give it a try. Disappointed :( Mozzarella sticks were ok marinara sauce was ice cold. Mac n cheese wasnt very good, cheese sauce tasted of flour as it wasn't cooked out. Chicken tenders were completely burnt and dry. Ribeye sandwich was well over done when asked for med/rare. Pizza was undercooked and just covered, I mean covered in cheese. The grouper sandwich was ok, prob the best thing. Servers were friendly and the place was clean. Doubtful we would return though, maybe for drinks but not dinner. read more

I would give this a zero for pizza - Wednesday's is great for the band and patio but skip the pizza all dough yuk! I was there the first week they opened, the food was great the service was spot on, the wife and I loved it. We went back several times and had a great time until last night. Second bad experience at Shipwreck. Last time was an early Friday evening and they were out of 3 of the 4 things we tried to order. Odd to be out of multiple menu items since it was early on a Friday evening. Gave it another try last night. We were seated, ordered our drinks and appetizers and then when given our drinks was told by the waitress that the kitchen was 60 to 90 minutes behind. . Asked the waitress to cancel our appetizers. Manager came to table and proceeded to tell us the kitchen is behind because the exhaust hood was broken and not working. WHAT???? Why in the HELL is this place open, trying to cook without the exhaust hood working. Very dangerous for employees and patrons! When we arrived we were told 45 minute wait. We waited 20 before we were sat at a table that had been open since we arrived. A party of 5 came in after us and were immediately seated. The waitress also took their order as soon as they sat down before anyone said anything to us. After 20 minutes of being seated the manager comes and asks if anyone has been here and we say no. Then he says he apologizes because he never told a waitress we were here. Usually good food and service. Last night was different. The appetizer took about 25 minutes then the main course came out one minute later. Not good timing at all. It was obvious the buffalo Shrimp was forgotten because it tasted like it was rushed. It basically tasted like warm shrimp tossed in Franks Red Hot sauce. The Mac and Cheese is usually rich and creamy. Last night it was dry and completely overcooked. Boxed Kraft would have been better. The Grouper was good. I'm going to go ahead and tell you I'm writing this review in Shipwreck because no one is fast enough to catch me writing it. The service is SLOW. We were seated and it took 10 minutes. The waitress in our section literally looked at us multiple times while we sat alone and turned around and went back to the kitchen for no reason. She finally came after our pleading eyes gave her a clue. She came and took our order and my husband and I bet between us that it would all come out together because of what we had experienced thus far. We waited patiently about 25 minutes for our appetizers. We ordered the garlic parm wings and mozzarella sticks. Both came out looking unappetizing. The wings were swimming in oil and the sticks were sitting on a weird attempt at a garnish. Not even a minute later, all the rest of our food came out and another girl brought it, not our waitress. She seemed confused at the whole situation and just left it. All of the food was only "warm" at best. I ordered the grown up grilled cheese, fries, and the Mac and cheese to try. My husband ordered the Mahi Mahi tacos and sweet potato fries. He was pretty disappointed there were only two small tacos. My sandwich was so stuck to the paper on the tray I couldn't get it off without pulling apart the sandwich. My fries were okay. Mac wasn't that hot, would have been okay if the temperature was better. My husband's fries were cold. The only person who came to check on us was the busboy at the end of our meal. Trying to get another water or beer-- good luck! The fastest our waitress was all night was with the check, that came and went in less than a minute, I timed it on my phone. In addition to everything above, the entertainment was just abysmal. It was SO obscenely loud I couldn't even talk to my husband and have never heard Hotel California butchered so bad. Overall, we really wanted to like this place and live down the street and wanted to give it our business, however, with the poor showing this evening, we likely won't be back anytime soon. We visited on Sunday afternoon and it wasn't too busy! I had the lobster roll which was delicious with nice chunks of lobster. We also ordered crab cakes which large, tasty and with a great sauce. My daughter had the fried shrimp which were large and lightly breaded. My dad had the grouper sandwich which he enjoyed. Vibe and service was great! Today I enjoyed lunch with the girls to celebrate the youngest's Birthday. Our drinks were fantastic, I had the strawberry mule, mom had an ice cold Miller light, two sisters enjoyed mixed drinks. We enjoyed nachos, with homemade chips, Chihuahua cheese and pork. Delicious! If you like sour cream I would recommend ordering extra. They did not give us much to start. We also enjoyed crab ragoons and jalapeño poppers. Both were served with tangy raspberry sauce. Both were great. Mom and I ordered the ribeye steak sandwich with fries. It was delicious. Other meals at the table included the lake perch dinner with fries and sautéed vegetables, crabcake dinner with mac & cheese and fries, and lobster roll sandwich with fries. Everyone greatly enjoyed their meal. We all like to dip fries in ranch. I must say the ranch was perfect (tasted like the same recipe Langel's pizza uses). We've been here a few times now. I think it will be a good place in the future. The blackened grouper is very good and so it the perch. The food seems to change from visit to visit. A better job of consistency in the kitchen would be nice. They have a awesome outdoor area. Too bad there is a different menu for eating outside. Went last night with my three girls. It just opened on Monday and when checking in they were eating that that got slammed and kitchen was behind trying to get food out. This is to be expected for seafood restaurant in this area when no other exists do I told them it was ok. Seated us at 8:15 and wait staff was nice but apologetic about earlier problems. Ordered a Blue Hawaii drink which was good. We got the crab Rangoon , cheese sticks, and pirates booty which is like poutine with pulled pork. The fries were had cut and tasted great apps took about 20 minutes to come out. Kids got Mac and cheese and chicken strips which they liked. I ordered the blackened grouper sandwich which was great but it took another 30 to come out. There were some angry people there that had to wait for food and were taking it out on wait staff. My advice is if you go now be patient and order done fun drinks because it is packed because to food is great. In a couple of weeks the kitchen will get in its groove. read more
