Was on one of our regular day getaways to the area and had actually planned to have our sit down breakfast at our regular spot next door, but the line was way too long....so, always having been curious about this place that seemed to have a line out the door every time we passed by, we decided to try it out.....since the line wasn't too bad. But what do you know, as soon as we got in the line...that only reached the door t about 9am....within minutes, the line grew longer and longer out into the parking lot....phew! The wait wasn't too bad as they seemed to have their takeaway ordering system in order....yes, there were a few sit down tables at the side, but no one was eating indoors....everyone was taking away. We waited less than 5 minutes before we got to the counter, placed our order with a nice and friendly young lady, and our order was out in less than 10 minutes....with the crowd they had, I'd thought it be longer, but glad it was nice and quick. The problem, was, this being the first visit here, which one of the many flavors of yummy looking bagels to try?....after much consideration between the garlic, plain, and sourdough.....I decided on the sourdough....my absolute favorite kind. So, I decided on the veggie egg white with toasted sourdough bagel. Ok, so it probably wasn't such a great idea to takeaway a breakfast style bagel as the steam in the wrapper pretty much makes the whole sandwich a bit soggy, so if you do order this style of a bagel sandwich, you really need to eat it asap! Regardless, I still thoroughly enjoyed the sandwich very much.....a bit "moist" but oh so yummy delicious! One of the best sourdough bagels I'd ever eaten, in terms of bagel freshness, density, and taste. Will definitely be back again for my take away breakfast bagel.....so that I can enjoy it whilst lazing on the beach. Oh, I did order a side of their chicken salad for more protein and to try out, and did get a bit tempted by the blueberry muffin, so did order one. The chicken salad was fresh with real chunks of tender chicken meat.....it was good, but a tad salty to eat on its own. The muffin was good too, but just a bit sweet for my taste. read more

This is my second time going to Shirley's Bagels here in Laguna. My first experience was just a great as the second. The first time I arrived I ordered an iced coffee, so great! Super smooth, no bitterness that comes with normal coffee, easily my best cup of iced coffee ever! They carry fresh bagels of all sorts from sweet, savory and plain. Each time I've came I've ordered the Californian Bagel Egg Sandwich. The place is always so clean and kept up. All employees here have given me nothing but the best customer service. I thank everybody here for having a nice smile on their face. I recommend this place to anybody that comes over to Laguna Beach! read more

I don't understand how places like this stay in business -- much less seem to thrive. I've been coming here for over 30 years and I can safely say it's never improved from back then. Back then it was on the opposite side of the strip center on the Broadway edge of the center. It was owner operated and pretty great bagels with good coffee Lately it's depressing. Dank. Boring. And flavorless. From the atmosphere to the bagels which are neither fresh tasting or traditional chewy bagels. They are blah. The service is obviously just blah. They all seem to commute from 30 miles away and couldn't care less about having any pride in their work. Obviously minimum wage part time non stake holders who would be just as happy at Jack in the Box. Indeed. As a customer I would too. The bagels are just blah. Absolutely NOTHING special. The last two times it took nearly 15 minutes to toast and cheese a bagel. Insane wait times. For what??? I asked for well done. Nope. Barely. Barely toasted! Also. Not a napkin to be found anywhere. Cheap a** people can't provide a napkin for $9 plain bagel?? Also. The prices!!!!!!! Stratospheric prices. Come on. Not an owner or even responsible manager in site. Obviously a distant owner who just cashes in while the minimum wage employees do their absolute bare minimum. The place is filthy. The coffee maker is insanely screeching loud and obnoxious-- for what?? A watery gross coffee made with low grade mediocre stale coffee beans !? Why? To recap. Bland. Blah. Nothing special. One of the best local spots for perfect bagel sandwich at reasonable price in Laguna! Bagels have the perfect crisp outer texture with chewy insides and the sandwich ingredients are top notch. I chose a toasted rye bagel and meaty crispy bacon for my Cali style sandwich that included fluffy folded egg, cheddar cheese, red onion and avocado. You can't see it in my photos, but there is a lot more egg because it spills out on the backside. Perfect every time! Coffee is good too, with OG half n half in a self serve pitcher. My eyes and their posted menu do not get along. Read the menu on my phone 2X, then just asked them what would make sense for my 95 year old mother in law, my wife, & me. They made great suggestions. Like how they have homeless or close to homeless people helping out with window polishing. And like the free parking. Their good reputation is well-deserved. We took home a half dozen bagels, 8 ounces of cream cheese. Had 2 nice bagel sandwiches, plus coffee & large fresh squeezed OJ. Cost around $43 with tip - quite reasonable compared to other breakfast places. Amazing location - 200 yards from Main Beach. I was pleasantly surprised eating here for breakfast. I ordered the Santa Fe breakfast sandwich and latte. There is an actual barista who makes your latte, with a pretty design in the foam. I just love it when they take that extra step to make your drink pretty. The breakfast bagel sandwich is most likely the best bagel sandwich I've had to date. It's just like eating a "gourmet" sandwich at fast food prices. It was delicious. I enjoyed every bite of it! As can be expected, there's a long line during breakfast hours. You order at the counter, take a seat, and they deliver your food to your table. They call your name and you pick up your latte to the left of the register, where the barista is located. Shirley's Bagels is one of the hidden gems of Laguna Beach. What looks simply like a bagel shop is truly much-much more. Though they do have great bagels, what I would truly suggest is that you actually have one of their meals. They really take the time to make things right. It is the subtle things that they do that really makes their meals very-very tasty. Moreover, they do things like make designs in their lattes. Again showing that this is a truly unique bagel stand. Shirley's has a few tables inside as well as a long counter. Plus, they have three tables outside. Though this place can become fairly crowded, most of the time you will be able to find a place to sit. Plus, they do a lot of to-go orders. I paid $9.50 for a bagel and tipped 15% before receiving my bagel. Pumpernickel, egg, lox and chive cream cheese. The egg was cold and I barely tasted the chive so I asked for a little bit of onion on the side. They wanted to charge me a dollar for the onion but it was a hassle to go back to my table, get my wallet out, and wait at the cash register to pay for the onion. Why not hand me a few pieces of onion? Maybe say, next time order onion on that bagel. My bagel was just so, so, I said toasted, it was hardly toasted. This is an incredible business! I had the California bagel and got a fresh Squeezed Orange Juice. The bagel was done fresh and the order did not take very long despite how busy the place was. I'm not a local by address but I do spend quite a bit of time in the Laguna Beach area and had never been here until recently after hiking. I definitely will be returning and put a full recommendation for Shirley's bagels! They have an array of different choices for all different likes and needs. So glad to have found this hidden gem! If you're craving a good bagel, this is your place. We went on a Saturday around 11 am and even though there was a line, it wasn't bad at all. We ordered quickly and waited about 15 mins for 2 bagel sandwiches and 2 drinks. We ordered a jalapeño bagel sandwich with egg and cheddar (add cream cheese), iced latte, sourdough bagel sandwich with egg and cheddar (add spinach and cream cheese), and iced tea. ALL YUM!!! We took our to go items on a quick walk down to the beach and had a picnic next to the waves.... 10/10 recommend! Also, the customer service was excellent. I asked about their chai tea latte and even though I opted against it, the server gave me a free sample along with our other drinks. Very kind! And if you're wondering, they also offer dairy alternatives like oat milk (though I did not try it)! Great place, great location, great food! read more

I should have taken a pic before I ate the whole thing! Ordered the CTA, cream cheese, tomato and avocado and added the lox for an extra 6$. My jalapeño bagel was nicely toasted and had a good chewy texture. The jalapeño cream cheese light and flavorful a topped with four big slices of juicy red tomato served open faced with generous slices of avocado underneath. The slices of lox was well worth the extra money because two can definitely share this big portion of an open faced bagel sandwich . I also loved the pepper seasoning mixture that was on the side which compliments the tomatoes and avocado. Don't be intimidated by the menu prices because the value is there. read more
