I'm officially giving up on bagel shack in Dana point. The sole reason I still have given this place business is because it's the closest to my house. The bagel shack in San Clemente makes better bagels, has 100x better customer service, and give you realistic wait times when ordering. The last 3 times I've come to the Dana point location. They've told me 10-12 minutes and I've waited 35+ minutes for two bagels. I love bagels in Dana point and bagel shack in San Clemente should be the only bagel shops you go to if you're here locally. I leave plenty of reviews on yelp and for the most part all of them are positive. I give places multiple shots before I leave anything below a 3 star review. This will be the first place on yelp I recommend you stay away from. Not due to the food, but the service for a bagel shop couldn't be worse. The Bagel Shqck is a great little local business with a couple of locations around town. It has a very simple beach vibe and there's usually a surf movie playing on a screen in the space. There's even a little sit down Pac-Man and Galaga game system for kids while everyone waits for food. The standard bagels at bagel shack are delicious. They have lots of flavors and varieties, from the simplest plain to an excellent everything and all sorts of delicious cheese covered ones and fruit flavored ones as well. They also carry a large variety of cream cheeses, and sandwich toppings. One of my favorite sandwiches is the Lowers, which has cream cheese and avocado on it with lemon pepper to which I usually add bacon. Usually this location has gluten-free everything or plain bagels, but it is not guaranteed and you definitely have to ask. Apparently it takes seven days to make a gluten-free bagel so there are only so many on site at any given time! Service is local kids very much in the high school era, which means that it is polite, but sometimes a little glassy eyed. Coffee is fine and they usually have half-and-half and French vanilla creamer to mix it in. If you're not looking for a bagel, they also do Smoothies and my people love the açai smoothie. The young girl taking the order did not understand and charged me 2 bagel sandwiches instead of the extra fee for the egg. I tried to explain it to her but could see she was frustrated so stated that she could just omit the double egg from order. She did and was annoyed. I get salmon toast from a local place in PASADENA and I absolutely love it but I hate that the capers always roll off the top. This bagel shop is probably one of the busiest bagel shops in and around south Orange County. They have a great variety of bagels, juices, smoothies and delicious sandwiches. The place can get a little bit crowded at times, but it's worth the wait. I enjoyed the jalapeño cheese bagel. Heated it for about 12 seconds in the microwave, it came out perfect. Sucks to have to write this, i frequent the lake forest bagel shack a few times a week, and today I decided to go to the Dana point location as I was passing by. I normally get a dozen bagels and cream cheese for the office. Well today I noticed my bill was $54 and some change and it normally is around 40-42$ ish. The lady informed me that they don't have a dozen bagel combo like the other locations. Which is odd, to have same name and business but different pricing. I know the ownsrs chad and his brothers, and the cashier informed me that the one brother that owns this location doesn't care. It suxks becouse like I said I tried out a new location as it was more convient for me, but ended up being more convient for bagel shack by $12 ish dollars more. It never fails regardless of what time of day -- they're always out of everything bagels!! Unless I order a special dozen they're never in the bin!! This location has limited seating and not great ambiance. I walked last week and the owner had a tray of freshly baked everything bagels behind him on the counter but nothing in the bin! We only come for the everything bagels but it's as if they don't know how to manage product at this location!! Today, I went in and asked the young dude behind the counter, "why don't you make more of the everything?" He replied, "well, maybe we did make a-lot but people just came and bought that flavor?!" Dana Point, CA I've been hearing about the bagels at Bagel Shack for years but I had only heard of the San Clemente, CA location! A search for the Bagel Shack on Yelp also showed a Dana Point location, and now after talking to the staff here I realize three brothers own one shop each, all located in South Orange County. The employee at the register also confidently said the Dana Point location was the best which I think was really cute of her to loyally stand by the location of her employment...a good sign. I ordered a poppy seed bagel toasted well with veggie cream cheese...my go to when ordering a bagel. Service was quick, pleasant and efficient....the toasted bagel was cut into quarters (next time I will ask for them to keep the halves uncut), toasted well as requested, and ample cream cheese (I hate when places skimp). I appreciated that the bagel was placed in a cardboard box just the right size for the bagel, so no messy paper wrap of even worse no styrofoam. First, there was no option to add any cream cheese to the bagel so I had to order a medium ($5.99) chive cream cheese. This was delicious but way more than I needed just for my sandwich. Second, my Asiago bagel was made with raisins????? It was a brown color (like a normal raisin bagel) but had Asiago cheese on top. Just super funky. I don't know if it was a mistake or what but it was hard to get past the raisins for my sandwich that I expected to be Asiago cheese.
