Overall this was ok, service was decent, food came out haphazardly but warm and fresh. My sandwich was large but could have done with a side. I'll try the eggs next time. Pricing was fair. No reservations though so often have to wait.

While waiting for my car to get an oil change, we decided to look for a nearby breakfast spot and Shirley's Diner popped up with great reviews. We decided to give it a try, and I'm so glad we did! There was a short wait when we arrived, about 10 to 15 minutes, but it honestly just confirmed how popular this place is. It definitely felt like a local favorite, with people constantly coming in and lining up. Wait wasn't too bas as they have plenty of space. The servers were super friendly, and the food really impressed me. Portions were huge and everything was absolutely delicious. I ordered the veggie omelette, my boyfriend got the breakfast burrito, and every single bite was amazing. We cleaned our plates! This truly feels like a hidden gem in Omaha. I can't believe we hadn't been here before. It's not super close to where we live, but we'll definitely be making the trip back.

Joined some friends for Sunday brunch at Shirley's. There was a wait, as expected, but not too long, so we got a table without too much grumbling. Drinks came quickly, and I got to peruse the menu like a true brunch connoisseur. I went with the country hashbrowns with bacon and a side of pancakes. Our group of six ordered everything from biscuits and gravy to chocolate chip pancakes to breakfast burritos. Just classic diner fare, nothing fancy, but comforting. The ambiance is exactly what you expect from a laid-back, classic diner. Cozy, casual, nothing fancy, just a place to sit and enjoy your breakfast or lunch. That said, they might want to consider fixing the bench out front. With the constant waits, it looks like it is an accident just waiting to happen. The food came out in stages. Some people got their sides only, a few had full meals, while others stared longingly at the table. Personally, I think a table should get all their food at once, but maybe that is just me. My food finally arrived lukewarm, potatoes and gravy not ideal, and my pancakes were a little overdone, but luckily I like them that way. I never got the jelly I asked for, so I ate them plain and syrupless. Another friend waited over five minutes for butter. I get that it is busy, but small things like that matter. Overall, it was an okay breakfast saved by excellent company. I do not live in the area anymore, so I will not be rushing back, but if you are in town and want classic diner breakfast with friends, Shirley's will eventually get you fed.

My husband grew up up in Millard and we have been over to his old stomping grounds many times, always passing Shirley's Diner. He was surprised when I wanted to try it, saying he thought it was a pretty old fashioned place with heavy food. Imagine my surprise when we came a little after opening time on a Saturday and the place was PACKED! Luckily we got a table right away since we were only two people and not a large party. It's actually pretty cute inside. Yes, a little old fashioned, but they are kind of leaning into that with the old decor on display, and booths with little radios at each, and a theme for every one, like Elvis, Marlyn Monroe, James Dean, etc. The service left a little bit to be desired. I know I said they were busy during the time we were there, but we saw others who were seated way after us get their food and start eating before we got any of our food at all, which is never a good sign. My husband was correct in his assumption that the food is pretty heavy for the most part. We were hungry so decided to lean into it and go with the flow with the heavy, salty food. We ordered a starter of poutine, and it was pretty tasty with brown gravy (and lots of it) along with giant blobs of the white cheddar cheese curds. This is almost a meal in itself, so definitely share it with a larger group than two people so you can tackle it. My husband got the Honey Dijon Chicken Sandwich for his entree, and he was pretty happy with it. A little bit messy with lots of dijon on it, along with pickles and bacon, so things were kind of sliding around. For the side, he got the tots, and they were pretty standard. Tasted like tots you would get anywhere and everywhere else. He also wanted something a little lighter, so asked for just a cup of fruit on the side too, not realizing that the cup the size of a business card is almost $5!! Definitely not worth that cost for the puny amount you get. I'm a huge Monte Cristo fan, so that's what I ordered for my entree. It was almost a DESSERT because it was so covered in strawberries and strawberry syrup. It was also gigantic, so I could only eat about 1/3 of it before I had a sugar high and a full belly. I have never seen a Monte Cristo that covered in sugar and strawberries. Overall, I would say the meal was just ok, but it did satiate my curiosity for trying Shirley's Diner. I would still recommend trying them out, but just know what you're getting into ni terms of the heaviness of the fare on offer there.

Shirley's diner was a perfect stop for a large breakfast before hitting the road for the day. Our waiter was friendly and attentive and made the suggestion of the breakfast burrito for me. It's an award winner and I can see why! It was huge and extremely delicious. My Husband had eggs Benedict and it was excellent. I would definitely recommend stopping at Shirley's diner anytime you're in the area.

I wasn't a fan of the flavors of anything i had. The hot chocolate had a beautiful presentation but tasted watered down. The chicken was too charred and tasted that way. Staff was nice and attentive. Lots of places to sit and the wait was short.

My last meal in OMAHA business trip and this was a great ending because I did not eat anything else for the entire day until the next morning. This retro throwback ranch style log cabin vibes. Our server Liz was amazing. So friendly and helpful. Great energy. She recommended the fried chicken steak which is what they are known for. And boy were we in for a surprise!! It was HUGE portions. We could've fed a small village. But we all enjoyed it and I can't believe i finished my plate.

Ate breakfast here for the first time earlier this morning. I really enjoyed it. Just a simple good restaurant with fair pricing and a decent breakfast menu and lunch menu. I got the loaded hashbrowns with scrambled eggs and sausage patties with pancakes. I enjoyed the white gravy over the hashbrowns and the sausage was tasty too. The eggs and pancakes were fine, but pretty basic tasting And not over the top. I would definitely go back here though.

DP ordered Lemon Berry Pancakes, a plate-filing short stack of goodness. I'd like to say it tasted as good as it looked, but I couldn't tell as DP chowed down like a hound from hell. In a good way, of course. She did allow me to share her Maple Braised Bacon (meaning that I was able to snatch a piece while she wasn't looking). Really, really fine, something I'd definitely order again. For me. Not to share. I had the Schnitzel Bennie with tart cherry jam and lemon hollandaise. Sound unusual? Tasted great! My only gripe was that the pork cutlet was a bit small and could have used a bit more seasoning in the breading. Would I order it again? You betcha! Service was fast and efficient. The decor was quirky and inviting but the space was loud enough that it was really hard to carry a conversation. Overall rating: yahoo!

My husband is a much harsher critic than I am, and he gave it a "rare 5.5 out of 5." The pancakes were some of the fluffiest I've ever had. They also have a great selection of coffee flavors to choose from, which was a fun bonus. The coffee paired perfectly with breakfast, though I probably wouldn't come here just for the coffee alone. The flavor was good but it did have a slight burnt taste. A quick note: you order at the counter before sitting down. It's a mix of self-serve and sit-down service. You order at the counter, grab your own silverware, and seat yourself, but they bring your food and drinks out to you (other than water). I do wish they were a bit more attentive about clearing finished plates during the meal. The restaurant was so busy that the line was out the door when we arrived, but it moved surprisingly fast. I was worried we wouldn't find a table, yet there were plenty of open seats available. The atmosphere is also really nice and cozy, making it a great spot to start your day.

Ok the other hand, the service is rather iffy & unpredictable. The chicken & waffles is my go-to for each visit, and they have many types of delicious sides to choose from, with my favorites being the biscuits & berries, goat cheese grits, and also the fried green tomatoes. I have zero problems with the food that they serve here, they always do an excellent job at preparing whatever they need to prepare & the portions are always satisfactory. As for the service, there are days where you will receive perfect service while on others the service is not so great. Some days you will be attended to in a timely manner, while there is other days where there isn't anyone available or willing to seat you somewhere. I've also experienced instances where they didn't attend to our table to take orders until I made a complaint. Most of these instances were during days where the place was virtually empty so it's not because of the place being busy. I've also ordered take out from here before, again some instances are perfect and there's other instances where they don't tell you if a certain food is out of stock via text or call so if you ordered something that isn't in stock, you're forced to wait for them to prepare something else once you arrive to pick up your order. They also don't always include syrup or butter in the takeout bags for chicken & waffles. One minor thing I'm also disappointed about is how the portion of grits has lessened over time, going from being served in a bowl to instead being served in a small cup/mug. Overall, I certainly don't return for the service because you never really know if it's going to be a good day or a bad day for that. It's always the food that brings me back. I do want to like this place, and I do to an extent but again the service is always unpredictable. I'd still say the food is worth coming here to see how it goes.

The dinner service manager is knowledgeable and passionate about the dining experience. When we ordered the radicchio salad, I was skeptical that it would be bitter, but was curious to try it. They were fairly busy, and honestly our food took a bit to come out, but I am still giving a five due to the overall experience and quality of service. Our server Melannie was fantastic and always present. We did the bottomless mimosa deal (3 out of 4 of us) and she was always coming around asking us what flavor we wanted next when our current was still half full to make sure we got our moneys worth. The champagne might not be the fanciest, but for $20 bottomless mimosas I'll take it. They have fun flavors in addition to the basic ones like strawberry, mango, etc. which adds an element of fun. For food--there were several things I was eyeballing but landed on the spicy chorizo Benny. It was really good, eggs cooked perfect, and came with hashbrowns. Another at our table got the poutine which also looked yummy. I'd say the food portion could have included a bread/toast option, however If brunching in Omaha i'd return to try several things on the menu. The vibe inside is chill, would be more fun sitting outside once the weather warms up. Since I was the one that booked the reservation, the tab got a bit confusing. At first they were taking it off my total, then the server said that hold would come off so I paid for my meal/drinks there. I did end up getting double charged (for both the reservation hold and my meal) which was cleared up with a quick phone call to their establishment---apparently it is a new process they are trying. I do understand though why they wouldn't want to just deduct the hold as then people that don't know how to tip wouldn't tip on the total, which hurts the server. All was cleared up regarding this mishap though so no complaints.

May 25th, 2026 Food:…read moreWaited a whole hour for an easy order... which was a mini charcuterie board with a plate of avocado toast... when it was served... it looked pretty and at first I didnt mind about the long wait, but I was disappointed because it tasted like it was made an hour ago but was barely being served to me a whole hour later.. so yeah.. not worth it and now I do mind.. a soggy toast isn't on my list.. Ambiance: It was a nice regular refreshing bar/brunch spot. But safety was a HUGE issue which is where I'll get to my point of this low rating. Service: Is negative zero a thing? That goes to the owner... the 1 star is for the decent service my server attended towards me. In unfortunate events it's not the servers fault.. but overall with the owner coming out, couldnt be anymore careless.. The Cause: Either the owner or a staff employee whomever that is responsible for setting up the patio umbrellas, and I mean those large heavy metal patio umbrellas, well, they failed to lock the pole of the umbrella and unfortunately the umbrella lifted and blew away and had hit a family in the face that were dining there also; instant noticeable bruising to the face... I was only a table away from them.. it could have been me too. I am disappointed in the lack of care in general that surrounded the scene. Little 5 ft me... was the only one that came to help while everyone else sat around and minded their own business... it took a long while until one of the staff noticed to help and then the owner came out and awkwardly said a one word-sorry and dipped... didnt come back to offer any hospitality, non-genuine and non-apologetic... it made me lose my appetite. They had the audacity to still charge the family their meal... but I had to tell these really nice folks to make sure they get comped back. It was sickening to me on how careless they were treated. I would never come back! I mean an exaggerating long wait, cold soggy food and careless hospitality from the owner himself. That's three major strikes. P.s. That same wknd.. the news showed up about a South Carolina woman that was struck by a patio umbrella and died on site... that says alot about lacking safety. Yes, search it up. It's real news.. Hope this help improves the business alertness. P.p.s. And although I was disappointed at this dining-bar overall... I still tipped my server a good $20 as the situation was out of their control, my server was still attentive towards me. They all just need social common courtesy in empathy and hospitality. But anyways, my lunch ended with bittersweetness with the family that got struck, they comped my whole meal for genuinely being the only one that was concerned for them. The only service I'm grateful for was that.
