Amazing omakase experience. My favorites must've been chutoro, uni, ama ebi, and salmon. Staff and chefs were welcoming, warm, and friendly. We were seated promptly at the reservation time and were lucky enough to be seated in front of the head chef at the sushi bar. He took his time to get to know his guests and introduce each dish. There was a sense of community which I thoroughly enjoyed. The restaurant was clean, homey and well organized, reminding me of Japan. Would highly recommend it to locals or those visiting Seattle alike.

10/10 experience. This meal is something I will be talking about for quite some time. I made a reservation a month prior to make sure we could sit at the bar top, as it was for a special occasion. Their staff was friendly and extremely attentive as they refilled our drinks several times, and if we left the table they would refold our napkin before we returned. The food was out of this world. The chefs were extremely knowledgeable on their craft and educated us before each course. My personal favorite was the fatty tuna courses. I loved experiencing this restaurant from the bar top and watching the chefs do their craft. It is a pricey meal for sure but was one of the best experiences and well worth it!

It was our second time heading to Shiro's and another amazing experience. The sushi was fantastic and the service was exemplary. We were fortunate to have Jareen and were seated in the back room. Her little attention to detail was impressive from chatting with our teenage son who is shy (and autistic) so having him open out of his shell to seeing that he was left handed and plating the sushi in the correct direction for him to eat. The food tasted rich and vibrant with each piece of fish incredibly fresh and nuanced in its flavors. Our youngest was having it without the shoyu since he really wanted to taste the depth of flavor on its own. We always feel amply full after the 19 pieces with the courses being so well balanced. We started with a tempura appetizer and a karaage of black cod (if this is on the menu--order it!). It truly is an experience and looking forward to returning again in the future.

First time having the chef describe the preparation and origin of the fish in detail before serving it, Chef Taro leads a fun edutainment dinner for us. The chef described rare finds and special fish for us tonight, and I appreciate that he was able to accommodate a no wasabi preference for us too. Some light humor and small talk made the dinner feel light hearted and intimate. The restaurant service hands were also very attentive and respectful. Also on offer was a nigiri dessert which I have never seen. The house picked ginger was sweet and tangy, which is much better than the shaved ginger. Honestly they could bottle the stuff up and make big sales in the ginger market. There is a parking lot nearby, but we walked from the light rail station about 15 minutes away. More of a casual setting than upscale. At the end you get an option to take away a Polaroid picture as a souvenir. 20% service fee included, 70% of which goes to service staff.

Came here for Valentine's Day dinner, and wow-what an experience. We had reservations (definitely the move on a holiday/weekend/special occasion), and from the moment we walked in, our experience was exceptional. The ambiance, the staff, the food.. all top tier. We ordered the Chef's Choice Sushi Course: 19 pieces of great quality nigiri served over 5 courses. This was my first omakase experience, and I was blown away. Every piece was explained well and our servers were friendly and walked us through how to enjoy each piece, including when to skip the shoyu. Everything was delicious, but a few standouts for me were the 1. Fuji Salmon, 2. Bluefin Tuna 4 Ways, 3. Madai, 4. Zuwaigani with Uni, (in no particular order). I'm already looking forward to coming back, and next time im hoping to snag a spot at the sushi bar for an even better experience.

We went here for anniversary dinner and it was amazing! The staff were very friendly and explained the menu well. We got the Chef's Choice Sushi Course, which was delicious. My favorites were the Kurodai, Sockeye Salmon, and Botan-Ebi, but they were all great. At the end of the course, you can order more on an à la carte menu.

Exceptional sushi at a lower price point than what it could be. Go during happy hour (4-6 table M-Th) and save yourself $15. $70 dollars for 19 pieces of high quality nigiri is a steal. You won't find any sushi rolls here but it is a killer spot for omakase type sushi.

Came here looking for some good omakase but ended up getting good omakase AND A SHOW! Chef Sean was super entertaining and would tell funny stories about his life while tying it into the piece of fish that we were being served. My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed our omakase experience here. We were a bit taken aback by the casual atmosphere at first since the place looks more like a sit down restaurant, but our doubts quickly faded once the course started. Shiro's omakase consisted of 19 courses for $140 which I think is a steal considering other omakase spots we looked at charged a lot more. Everything was delicious and I was so full by the end of the course. We ended the night with a matcha tiramisu which was also delicious. This was a 11/10 experience and I would definitely come back next time I'm in Seattle!

Sat at the sushi bar for an omakase and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Chef Taro was a delight and I enjoyed learning about each fish (size, where they lived, popularity in a part of Japan, etc). This is our third omakase in Seattle (5th in our lifetime) and we agree it is one of our favorites. The chef's all look like they're having so much fun it puts the guests at ease. Really stellar service from all staff here. We will definitely come back!

Visited Shiro's for our 2-year anniversary, I can confidently say this is the best Sushi I have ever had in my entire life. That is saying something, as I've been to Japan 5 times!! The chefs are so funny and thoughtful, and each bite served is truly mind-blowing and tastes like nothing you've tasted before. 12/10 experience!! :) Excited to return, if you go I definitely recommend booking the bar seating as it is on a completely different level than the table experiences.

So much fun!! Which is an odd statement for a restaurant experience but omakase was truly so entertaining. Sean was hilarious and it felt like we got a show in a meal. He will joke and explain every round, he's theatrical and witty. and of course, the food was absolutely DELICIOUS. The nigiri melts in your mouth. What a fantastic dining experience I had a BLAST. Also highly recommend the hochica tirimisu. that was so delicious I wanted to order a second. also no birthday dessert is not free haha. I will say everyone at the bar counter becomes part of your party essentially since you're addressed as a group. I enjoyed the people around us! but just a heads up it's not super duo/private. Ended up being about 200$pp after tax tip and honestly worth going at least once!

We secured a Saturday night reservation at Shiro's and did the 19 piece omakase for $85 - truly amazing value that is unheard of these days. We were seated quickly upon arrival and service was fast with perfect cadence. The fish quality was superb and we thoroughly enjoyed every course. Some standouts were the salmon, and o-toro. Our server was so knowledgeable about where each fish came from and let us know which pieces were seasoned and which were not. The tamago at the end was outstanding - the best I've ever had. The restaurant was completely full when we went. Vibes inside are cozy and intimate. Really enjoyed our experience and would love to come back again!

This is my second time coming back to Shiro's and had a great experience both times! We did the 85 dollars 19 piece omakase. Went with a large group of 7, made a reservation in advance, and was swiftly seated as soon as we arrived. Service was very fast, and provided the perfect amount of time between the courses. All the sushi pieces were fresh and unique, on par with many of the more expensive 100+ omakases! I particularly enjoyed the sweet shrimp with the fried shrimp head, the tuna course, and uni! All of my party were full by the end of the course, recommend not ordering appetizers to save room for the sushi. One of my favorite omakase thats reasonably priced :)

    Shiro's Reviews in Other Languages

    Ask the Community - Shiro's

Are the Nigri sushi served in the chef's choice sushi course and shiro's omakase different or basically the same?

My understanding is that the omakase sushi is different at the sushi bar versus at the tables in the dining room, but I don't know the extent of difference. You might want to call the restaurant to check.

Do you have a patio and if you do is it Dog friendly?

    There is no patio

Can you order appetizers also with Omakase at the sushi bar? Or is it just Omakase?

Yes you can but they do give you an appetizer.

What is the dress code here?

This isn't a formal dress code. But most of the people I saw at dinner were dressed like they were out on a first date with someone slightly, but not unrealistically, out of their league.

Do you still require mask for dine in?

    No not required

Does this restaurant require covid vaccination or negative test proof?

    No as of 9/18!

Is there valet or a parking garage nearby?

No valet and no parking "garage," but there is street parking, even if you end up having to walk a couple/few blocks.

I would like to reserve on resy for the end of May but the times are not out. May I be able to call the restaurant to set a reservation ? Also it says that it only serves 75$ Omakase, does it include any drinks like alcohol? Thanks

Not sure about calling currently for reservations but I have found more success in the past doing so. The Omakase does not include drinks but they are available to purchase in addition to the meal. Appetizers are also offered for purchase.

Is Shiro's doing dine it during COVID? Or only takeout/delivery?

They are doing dine in also.

Could you make a reservation to do omakase at the sushi bar? If so, can this be done over the phone within the week?

You have to wait outside before they open and hope you are the first 11 or 12 people to get a seat at the Sushi bar. I made reservations for a table just in case

Can a gluten free food allergy be accommodated? I love this place, but my wife has celiac and needs gluten free options. Thank you!

Yes, my partner is also gluten free and they were very accommodating.

How much is the all you can eat and what schedule it is?

If you're thinking of the omakase, it's like making any other reservation, except at the sushi counter. The chef will serve you one piece at a time until you tell them to stop. You are charged by the price of each piece (it's not a fixed price).… Read more

Anybody having a hard time making a reservation? I have been calling the past 2-3 days and still no answer?

Leave a voicemail or use a web form on their site to make a reservation 1 week in advance.

Is this place all you can eat?

No. This is a traditional sushi restaurant that focuses on nigiri and sashimi, not the Americanized rolls. Very expensive.

Phone is going straight to voicemail, are you guys open today?

    Yes

How long is a wait when you go without a reservation?

I didn't have to wait. I went there 20 minutes before they opened for dinner on a weeknight. Got seated right away for table of two.

How much is omakase? Trying to buy a gift card for family~

    $75pp before tax/tip

    Does Shiro still own/manage/work here?

No, Shiro Kashiba sold his remaining stake in Shiro's to the I Love Sushi group in 2014. He has since opened a new restaurant in Pike Place Market called Sushi Kashiba, which he currently works at.

How long does the omakase last? I know it will vary depending how fast you eat. Reason I ask is because I'm trying to plan a trip and see if we can make it to an improve show.

It won't last more than 90 min. I ate every available fish (~35 pieces) and they stopped serving me.

The way they worded this really rubbed me the wrong way. First, I've never been give a time limit at a restaurant that was not all-you-can-eat. Second, the amount of time I spend in your restaurant heavily depends on the speed of your service (spoiler alert: it was not fast). They then sat us at the most uncomfortable table I have ever had the displeasure of dining at. The table was low and the seats were so deep that I could not rest my back on them while eating. Definitely brought the mood down further. Food was a hit or a miss, no in between. Hit: Garlic short ribs (my partner said these were tender and a good portion for happy hour), Poke sushi roll (good fish quality and taste) Misses: First Ave Roll (sauce was just walloped on top, weak flavors), veggie and shrimp tempura (heavy and soggy batter), pink lychee cooler (artificially sweet with no strong lychee flavor), green tea tiramisu (photo speaks for itself). For all the rave reviews, I was pretty let down. Thankfully, we went during happy hour so we didn't pay full price. I would not visit here again.

The inside is really nicely laid out and our table was in a side where we could see the sushi chefs preparing the pieces. We even saw Chef Kashiba himself while we were there! We of course got the omakase, which was a total of 22 pieces including non-sushi bites. The appetizer trio consisted of sashimi, bamboo, and a radish puree - while we loved the sashimi, the other two were just ok. The next course was a toro handroll which we thought was a bit odd since that usually comes later towards the end in omakase. The fish was fresh, but the seaweed was a little thick and chewy. Onto the next plate - 5 pieces of nigiri with my favorites being the otoro and sea bream. Special shoutout to the albacore as well (I've never had albacore so soft!). After this one, the 6 piece nigiri were a hit or miss - while I LOVED the kanpachi (probably my favorite piece of the night), some of the seared ones didn't feel that fresh or flavorful. We then got the chawanmushi which I actually really loved, and I'm thankful they were able to substitute the shrimp with rockfish for my allergy. Finally, for the dessert course we got some miso soup, a fried anago nigiri, and for me oranges (instead of the egg due to my shrimp allergy). I did think it was odd to get miso soup last, but the anago was really good and the oranges were nice and fresh. Overall, there were definitely some standout pieces (kanpachi, toro, and chawanmushi) but the overall omakase experience felt a little disjointed. I'm glad to have finally tried this spot though - the location is beautiful and definitely still worth a visit for the legacy!
