Yes yes yes! I've finally found a place with a legit gyro for a reasonable price and it goes by the name of Shish Kabob Grill. I'm not in this part of town but found myself here for a two day training class and had no clue where to eat. I stumbled upon Shish Kabob and as soon as I walked in and smelled all the wonderful aromas, knew it was going to be a legit place to get some middle eastern grub. I got there relatively early for lunch and sat at the counter since it was just me. This is a family owned place and the son came over, took my order and I patiently waited for my food, even though they make it right there behind the counter, such a tease! The gyro came out and it was glorious--chunks of succulent lamb meat instead of sliced that you find at many places with the stand tomato, onion and lettuce with tsaziki sauce (thick, not runny, woo hoo!!!!) atop a fluffy warm pita. As always, it was awkward to eat since it is a gyro but I destroyed that bad boy and my belly was happy afterwards! I hope something brings me over to Colfax again just so I can get another gyro from Shish Kabob! read more

YUM!!!! We ordered the Kibeh, Falafel, Lentil Soup, Meat over Hummus plate, Beef Kifta Plate. All was really tasty!! The kibbeh and Falafel has so much flavor in them it will make you want to order another round. The hummus seems to be mixed with more tahini than used to but delicious nonetheless. The beef kifta was delicious and cooked perfectly. Loved the rice too. Few things That didn't hit my taste buds but not to rule out is the sauces weren't to my liking and the portions were smaller (enough to eat) but smaller for the price I've seen at other middle eastern s places. My friend had leftovers and I ate them for him so he suggested we go to the restaurant itself for lunch. Got there in the nick of time because they started getting busy. A line for takeout and all the tables full. It's a family owned business and the service is friendly. They recognize regulars and greet them - they knew my friend and welcomed him. We had the shish kabob plate with chicken. Comes with a salad and we had baklava for dessert. The chicken was well seasoned and smooth. The baklava was warmed up for us and flaky and not too sweet. Will be back. Everyone should go! Support the family owned business with great service and delicious food. Hmm, this place used to be better. Or maybe I've just had much better food at Alibaba Grill in Golden! But I'll always remember Shish Kabob Grill as having the best fries in town! So good that we always make sure to order a side portion if it doesn't come with the entree we order. As far as desserts go, before this trip, I've only had baklava and Kinafeh (Shredded filo pastry filled w/sweet cheese, topped w/crushed pistachios and sugar syrup flavored w/rose water) and both were good. This time I wanted something custardy and cheesy, so naturally I asked for a Kulage (Filo dough filled w/custard, milk and coconut topped w/crushed pistachios and sugar syrup flavored with rose water) and a Shuyabeyat (Filo dough filled with sweet cheese, topped with crushed pistachios and sugar syrup flavored with rose water). They were less impressive, not sweet enough and had way less pistachios than shown on the menu pictures. I felt ripped off! Let's start with the fact I'm a food lover and I love to try new restaurants. This place was well reviewed on Google, so I went there for dinner with my husband and It was the most disappointing mediterranian place EVER! My husband comes from a Lebanese background, so this kind of food is made very often in his family and we KNOW what a great food is. We ordered 3 different dishes: Falafel, Kebeh and a plate with hummus, chicken and other stuff. The Falafel was ok, but far from what it should be. We couldn't taste the herbs and it was very oily. The Kebeh was good, nothing to complain about. Finally we tried the hummus plate, and it was THE WORST HUMMUS I've ever tried in my entire life. If I was to the supermarket buy one, would have been MUCH better. The texture was liquidy, white and you couldn't taste the chickpeas, it almost tasted like maionese and to make even worse there was a VERY bitter after taste. The place was sad, old and the feeling I had from the people working there was that they don't care about the customer experience at all. Do you know when Gordon Ramsey visits family owned restaurants? When all he sees is frozen food being served as fresh and the kitchen conditions are the terrible? It's basically the experience I had in this place, which is sad because I know that in some moment they were great but for some reason they simply gave up on doing their best to just doing less than what it was acceptable. Best hummus I've ever tasted. Seriously. It is SO good. Perfect creamy texture that pairs SO perfectly with warm pita. The service was great. Quick. No hassles. Friendly and helpful recommendations. We started with hummus obviously and I was blown. I got the chicken skewers which came with rice and a garlic sauce. My boyfriend for the gyro plate with rice. The rice was perfectly cooked. Onion rings seemed to be out of a box vs homemade, which is ok, just not my style. 3 stars up until now. Reason for 2 stars is the tipping structure. Preset amounts start at 18% and goes up to 30%. I'm sorry but this is unreasonable for picking up a sandwich. I used to manage a fine dining French restaurant, and the servers would get these types of tips after they suggesting wine pairings/dishes according to guest preference and waited on the table. I was looking around for a nice kabob spot. Saw this one had great reviews and looked pretty good. When I got home my gyro sandwich was soaked with juices from all the toppings and open up my hummus and it's literally white and watery. Pretty sure hummus isn't made that way. I called to let them know I didn't like it and that it's not hummus. They said to me "that's what we are known for" would steer clear of this place. Service was good and really attentive but, damn, it took them foreverrr to get out the food. It was definitely worth the wait, however. I'd already decided that I was gonna order the Gyro Sandwich ($6.99). Compared to other Middle Eastern/Mediterranean restaurants, I thought this seemed a bit pricey, but SKG's gyro is better than anything I've had before. I was totally wowed by the thick, juicy perfectly-spiced chunks of meat. The grilled onions were a surprise (I would have preferred them raw tbh), but everything had a delicious fresh and smoky flavor which was complemented perfectly by the light and not overly-garlicky tzatziki sauce. The fries were nothing special but who cares. The gyro was phenomenal! He had the Vegetarian Platter ($12.99). While he really loved the green bean concoction and the tender buttery rice, over all he preferred the Vegetarian combo at Phoenician Kabob. SKG's falafel was on the dry side, the spanakopita-type thing was rather bland, and the pita and dips just weren't quite as tasty. If you're a gyro fan, I definitely recommend this place (5 stars). Good authentic Middle Eastern fare. The dining area was nicer than I thought. My impression was this place would be an order-at-the-counter QSR place. Instead, it's a sit down restaurant. We had a couple of dishes- the chicken shawerma and kabob plates. I thought the chicken was a tad dried out and, although good, definitely not the best I've had. The kabob was done very well but had a slightly different taste than I've had in the past. It seems this is a Syrian place, which I'm not familiar with, so I accept it might be different than other similar cuisines in the region. All the side dishes such as the hummus were really good. I was disappointed to see they don't make their own pitas. That is really the major mark against them. Being from London I know my kebab's very well (uk spelling) Don't get me wrong this is decent but I wouldn't go past giving it a average score. The garlic dip is seriously garlic packed and the hummus Is a bit gloopy. It needs more chick pea texture. Overall It's good but not unreal. read more

I came in to this place around 6pm. It was empty besides the two sons and the Mom Working. I ordered a Water, Turkish Tea and A Gyro sandwich with fries. I was greeted the second i walked in. I like that. And Had my choice of sitting wherever. But i have seen on lunch when i walk by its busy. The menu has lots of items but not to many to make deciding hard. Turkish coffee is delicious and different from what you get at Starbucks. It comes out in a little pot that you pour into your little mug. Next time i think ill add a little milk to it and really enhance the flavor. For being little it lasts and goes along way. My Gyro and fries came out pretty quick, and seeing the rotating spit of meat Mmm Yummy. The Gyro was huge and packed with meat and tomatoes and fresh onions and lettuce. The Tzatiki sauce was made and was fresh and not overpowering with garlic. The meat was not just moist but juicy. Some places i need more tzatiki sauce just to eat it. Not here though. Literally you could see and taste the moistness in each bite. The fries were standard variety little bit of salt and pepper on them and they were good. I almost ordered the Hummus as an Appetizer and Baklava for Dessert. But i would of been just way to full. Next trip Ill order the Gyro Platter. read more

Let me start off with the good. Service was excellent. Staff was very friendly and if i was onky rating them it would be 5 stars. However, the food did not live up to the level of service. I ordered a gyro and onion rings and it was really disappointing. The gyro meat tasted fine, but had the texture of meatloaf, no crispy bits whatsoever. The tzatziki was practically non existant, no feta to be seen and there were gigantic chunks of half cooked onions everywhere. Literally everything that makes a gyro great was not there. All I can say is WOW. I had the chicken shawarma pita sandwich and it was delicious, super fresh and very filling. I got it with onion rings, and to be honest, I am very fussy about onion rings and they were incredible, super crisp and delish, battered perfectly. This is a good, but not great, middle eastern restaurant convenient to the downtown / capitol hill areas. Parking is poor and your best chance at street parking is along Grant St., between Colfax and 16th (on the west side of the road for metered parking). The place has little atmosphere and is on the ground level of what was a mediocre residency hotel gone far south in the last 10+ years. That said, the food is a bit above average. Have only been there for lunch. The falafel was very good, but the sauce served with it was wayyyy too salty. I'd go back to try the shish kabobs and stuffed grape leaves and see how that goes. A good place if you're in the neighborhood with a hankering for such stuff, but not worth a long drive and not a good setting for a special occasion. read more
