This was my 3rd time having Shogun but my first time ever enjoying the sushi bar. Their sushi is high quality. The prices are fair for the New Orleans area, especially for the quality we received. Shogun offers a large menu that is sure to make everyone in your group happy even if they don't want seafood or sushi. Drinks wise, they also have delicious lychee martinis and sake to enjoy outside of classic drinks/beers. They do online orders for pickup or delivery with doordash too if you don't want to dine in. I've done both. Very casual spot if you want it to be! Don't feel like you need to be dressed up super nice. It's really what you make it. Let me preface, I don't even like hibachi. But this place, this place is different! Went here for the first time with some coworkers, I was reluctant but they insisted. I. Cleared. My. Plate. I was shocked! Went again with my kids and husband for a birthday lunch, absolutely consistently good! The rice and noodles have me hooked! Cooks are always playful, food is fresh and tasty, yum yum sauce is available by the gallon (iykyk) and the lunch is pretty cheap. It's an older building and they fit as many people in there as possible bc the wait can be a little much on the weekends. This isn't fine dining it's just damn good food! Highly suggest! read more

Very friendly service. Lots of seating. The sushi bar is where it's at though as that seems to be a very popular spot. We ordered gyoza dumplings (don't come after me, that's literally how it was named on the menu even though I'm aware adding dumpling after gyoza is repetitive), seaweed salad, yellowtail nigiri, salmon nigiri (both nigiri were fresh but just blah), Judy roll (favorite roll of the night because of the chili oil), and rainbow roll (crab inside was just not great), and green tea (you get a whole teapot so there is plenty and it was tasty). The rolls looked good as they came out too. The place is unoffensive middle of the road sushi with a strangely overstated menu (too many odd descriptions like adding "imported" before the "tempura shrimp") and might be amazing for Louisiana but definitely doesn't hold a candle to the many other spots I've been to. read more

My favorite sushi place in town! We've been going here for years and it's an expensive place, but the sushi is very fresh. I've never had crunchy rolls that were ever this crunchy before and we love the shrimp boxes. Service is quick and the habachi is a very fun experience. read more

I was very excited to find a hibachi place and was going to make this my new place, however, 3 people in my party got food poisoning from the (cooked) steak. When I called the restaurant to let them know, their answering service said not to leave a voicemail. Letting everyone know here, as this is very unsafe and I'd hate for others to spend $40+ on a meal only to be sick for a day or two. I also thought it was a little strange that they threw the shrimp for people to catch instead of vegetables. Shrimp is such a common food allergy, and several people in my group don't like shrimp, so were unable to partake in this. read more

25 years ago, this was my go to sushi place. I moved away and couldn't wait to go back and see if it was still as good as I remember. Unfortunately, it was not. My favorites back in the day were the crawfish roll, crunchy roll, eel roll, spicy salmon roll and baked seafood. I ordered the crawfish roll, fresh salmon roll with spicy mayo and baked seafood. They were all just meh. The baked seafood had a ton of onions and sparse seafood. The inside, although still decorated the same, seemed dark and sad. There were a lot less people eating than I remembered in the past. The hibachi was pretty busy, so I may return and try it. I think I'll try elsewhere for sushi. I also heard they have new owners, which may explain some of it. read more

Was very excited to try this establishment as every time you drive by they are crazy busy. Unfortunately, there's only a few spots to sit for the hibachi area and was staked out for a party of 20. That was quite disappointing. Was told that if you are sitting in the other part of restaurant you may/may not be able to get hibachi. Everything we ordered was just "ok." Nothing stood out, and we spent well over $140 trying things between 4 people. Nothing was overly tasty or impressive. The chicken on the teriyaki chicken plate was undercooked, the vegetables and tempura also had no flavor. I don't think this restaurant would be on the "revisit" list. Server was great. read more

I've been here probably a handful of times, and it's never disappointed. Shogun is one of the best sushi restaurants in New Orleans (which doesn't take reservations), so be prepared to wait on weekends as it gets super busy and crowded. Luckily, I was always able to find one of the last couple of spots at the sushi bar which is the best spot in the house. Shogun serves their nigiri fully dressed (by request for an upcharge) with sauces and garnishes that pair so well with each different fish. Tonight, sushi chef Atsushi took care of us and he was such a nice Japanese man. You don't find many Japanese chefs at sushi restaurants in Louisiana, so it was cool to get to know him. He was attentive and friendly. I could tell he was smiling even with his face mask on. I highly recommend Shogun whether it's for their yummy fancy~ nigiri or for hibachi which they cook right in front of you, and I've heard their hibachi is the best, but you have to find out for yourself. read more
