Boy oh boy. This place was a bummer especially on a day to celebrate a special birthday...smiles turned into dreading sighs. You know that moment where you are super excited to go celebrate a birthday and watch a cool chef make some cool trips... well we got none of that. The chef came out making snide and unnecessary comments to the main birthday person, who does that? Well that chef did. If you want to celebrate your birthday, don't come here. You'll have a better time at Gen, trust me. Luckily, our server was super kind and understood the situation. But the chef, he was another story. Not only did he make rude comments as he tried to be funny, the meat was cooked badly and used a ton of butter. We ordered different combination meals, lots of sushi, and seared tuna salad. The salad took a long time and came a few minutes after the sushi, how does that happen? The place was not even busy! Sushi was good; I'll give them that. We talked to the manager and got a percentage off the full price, but it was still unacceptable behavior and such a poor turn out of this place. We didn't receive a follow up. I had to get up and talk to the manager about again to see what the action steps are to resolve this issue, if there's any. Absolute waste of money. Super overpriced for some mediocre food. 8 of us and the bill was $450. They fill you up on rice, give you a half a chicken breast, some vegetables, and call it good. So I had some business near Riverside that my wife joined me for. On the way home we saw a Shogun off the freeway in Corona and thought we'd stop in for lunch. Mind you I grew up near the original Shogun in Pasadena, so we use that as our measuring stick. I have to say we were pleasantly surprised by a familiar face. Eric Niera that managed the Pasadena restaurant had moved to be the General manager in Corona. The setting was familiar ( decoration wise), but much to our surprise the menu was slightly different. New vegetables, the inclusion of Yakisoba noodles all included for lunch. The Head Chef Hugo had a great show and the food was perfect. In fact it was a larger portion and turns out a few dollars cheaper per plate. Elisha was our server and she seemed to always be there when we wanted something, without being intrusive. My family & I came here on a Sunday around 4:15pm. The wait wasn't bad, we were sat pretty fast. Our server took our drinks and orders and was very kind. However, it took about 35+ minutes to get a server to our table to start on the entrees. When we did get our entrees started some of the orders were shorted shrimp and then had extra steak which wasn't horrible, it just took a few more minutes for the shrimp to arrive. The chef was very nice and gave us the extra steak. Inside the restaurant, it was extremely hot. Before our chef even got there and turned the stove on, we were all sweating. On the bright side, our food was delicious. I got the tofu delight with shishito peppers. It's also a great option if you need food the next day and have leftovers, it heats up great and still tastes fresh. Overall, I think it was just an off day. read more

My boyfriend and I love Shogun and try to eat here when we can. So last night, he made a reservation at 6 and when the soups/salads arrived I bit into a piece of plastic. I was mortified. I've worked in food service during high school and am well aware that this classifies as a food safety hazard. We had a reservation for 4 but waited 30 minutes to be seated. Service was friendly but it took over an hour just for water, and the restaurant is filthy. We started off with the clams, calamari, and pickled cucumber. It was all average and the cucumber was slimy. Udon noodles were chewy and dashi broth was light. This is usually the best location for me however, the food provided on Thursday was nowhere near where it should've been. The rice was not cooked all the way, it was very crunchy. The steak was very tender and juicy, but had no flavor. I had a party of four and everyone ordered steak. They all said the same thing...zero flavor. And the lemon drop was just that... a drop of lemon and a drop of alcohol. This location is so bad paint peeling off the wall. The decorations are falling apart. It stinks and then you see people dressing up for what a hole in the wall small broken down restaurant they need to renovate this place ASAP. It looks so bad and the bathrooms are so gross. Shogun was our Mother's Day stop. 1. Easy to make reservations. 2. We were greeted and seated promptly upon arriving. 3. Our server was absolutely amazing. She even made it a point to learn to say Happy Mother's Day in Spanish just so she can tell my mother-in-law. Super sweet. Our were always full. She checked up on us several times without being bothersome. 4. The food was on point. The chef made great suggestions. We asked him to extra fry our rice and he did. We asked him to add chili to our fried rice and he did. He then suggested chili and lemon in our chicken which we thought was super thoughtful. 5. I recently had a Birthday dinner for my sister at Shogun and let me say, it was one of the best experiences I've ever had, when I entered the restaurant I was greeted with a smile, at first glance the restaurant was nice a clean, while we were was waiting for my table to be ready (which didn't take very long) we were also greeted by the GM of the restaurant, his name is Cesar , he really made us feel welcomed , the whole ambiance was incredible, because it was our first time, I didn't know what to order but the GM Cesar gave excellent recommendations, not only food but drink recommendations also..over all it was a great experience, my sister really enjoyed having her birthday dinner here...I want to thank all the staff but especially Cesar for making making my sister's birthday dinner special.. my sister is al ready asking me when are going back to Shogun.
