I don't like to write bad reviews but this is going to happen. First we made reservations. The hostess was friendly. While we were waiting we got some happy hour drinks. The bar staff were kind. We shared with them on ohone when making reservations, then when we walked in and then the waitress we were celebrating a birthday and anniversary with our group. The "show" was just average, he cooked didn't talk. He didn't look happy. The food was bland. You had to upgrade for fried rice and the portion of food was small. The veggies were potatoes sliced small and cooked and broccoli little onion. Potatoes at a teppanyaki??? Saving $$ I guess. When the meal was done we ordered a dessert. We were expecting the special singing for the birthday that's why you go to someplace like this for a special event. . When the lady brought the bill and ice cream I said excuse me can we sing happy birthday? Her answer was I don't have time and she left. We spent close to 200.00 for a Special night out and was very disappointed. We sang to my husband. The manager was leaning against the wall the entire time we were there, 'observing' everyone else around him working. They also kept trying to take our plates while we were eating which felt very pushy to move us along. It was 5pm on a Monday. Not busy...when we were ready to leave the family went to the car and I decided to let the manager know about the disappointing service and how we told the staff 3 times we were there for a very special bday and anniversary. I shared the situation and he shrugged his shoulders and said hopefully our experience will be better next time. I shared we would not be back. I should have paid attention to the reviews not in favor! Would not recommend, take your business, money and special events somewhere else. read more

I have been looking for a hibachi place for a long time and finally gave Shogun a try. I was able to make a same day reservation which was great ! Location is small and cozy. My reservation was at 730pm and we didn't get served until closer to 8pm. The chef cooked/performed for about 30ish minutes (my daughter absolutely loved him and his carisma). Loved eating here for my birthday last night. Our visit was greeted with a warm welcome, timely seating and such a fun experience with the chef. It wasn't too loud or quiet. Came here last night and noticed some major changes. I am sure many of these changes are cost cutting measures but they are noticeable. 1) they added noodles to the offering which on the surface seemed like a cool thing but they did not taste good and it was a real detractor to the meal. 2) they also added potatoes and broccoli. Also not that great and it seemed like an odd additional. 3) the steaks were also sliced noticeable thinner. Not deli/carpaccio thin but definitely noticeable. It was to a point that the normally cubed sized beef was now served in thin strips. More like a stir fry. 4) the pricing I think went up as well. We all asked ourselves the question. Whoever's idea it was to mess up the combo plates by giving us potatoes and noodles with BARELY any veggies... HORRIBLE IDEA!! I was so irritated with my dinner tonight, loaded with way too many carbs and unnecessary additions. NOBODY ASKED YALL TO GIVE US POTATOES AND NOODLES when we are already paying extra for fried rice if you wanna do some nice give us bigger bowls of rice instead. We're frequent diners at SG, specifically for family gatherings for a celebration. Service has been superior during all the visits. We enjoy Saturday or Sunday lunches because it's less crowded creating a relaxing yet enjoyable atmosphere. The food has always been very good, and our family typically gets the combination meals, mainly the various steaks and shrimp variations. We celebrated my niece and nephew's birthdays. Our teppanyaki chef was Angel. He is by far the best preparer and enjoyable chef experienced. Very happy and made everyone laugh. He also displayed new creativity with the food, at least 3. We went here for my mom's birthday this past weekend. We were welcomed with smiles by Charm and her staff when we walked in. Got to our table and we had Arnel as our chef. He was very entertaining and the food was cooked/grilled to our requests. And like the other staff, he too had a smile on his face during his live cooking. Every now and then, Charm and her staff members would check in to see if we needed anything. What was really concerning to me was that as people continued to show up and put their names in they were told "it would only be a short wait" which was misleading. Fun casual hibachi in San Marcos. We've never had to make reservations and have always been seated pretty quickly in a party of 2-5. There is a small sushi bar with maybe 5 seats if that's all you want to come for, an actual bar with a few more seats, or you can be seated for a hibachi meal. I enjoy the more laid back atmosphere than the other hibachi place that shall not be named. I think the tables need some refinishing and maybe some of the tableware upgraded. Every chef we have had has been funny and engaging, and 10/10 for the food. I usually get the lemon chicken and tried the salmon for the first time today which is a new favorite. If you're doing low carb like myself, I ordered the dish that were on skewers with the shishito peppers & the sashimi plate. Both were delicious! They didn't have any soda, so water with lemon it was. The chicken fried rice was tasty, the sushi looked beautiful & the chicken yakisoba was a huge portion. The kids got mochi ice cream but they only had 3 flavors. Sadness. They seem to have a better staff & could hold 6 people at the hibachi table, so I'd come again. read more

Went to dinner last night for my birthday and it was a total disappointment. I debated between Benihana and shogun but last year I went to Benihana. Infact they send me a nice coupon for my birthday but I still chose Shogun because it was closer to me. The service was poor, the food was just ok. Calamari you can't even eat without the breading falling off. Service sucks! It's not like it's cheap there. Ordered ribeye and I feel like I could have stayed home and cook it myself. Then you go to those places for the show( the cook doing all kinds of tricks) nothing! And I expected more from them. Coz they used to be good. I'm not going to lie the last dining experience we had there wasn't exactly as good either but I wanted to give them a chance. But at least the last time they gave good service even though the food wasn't that spectacular. It was my birthday, they even asked what we're celebrating. Literally, we asked for the check the lady came with it and just slide a small plate on the table. They used to sing or flicker the lights or something. NOTHING! A total disappointment.
