What is happening here. Much of everything was wrong. Place was super crowded. Most diners we've ever seen for a Saturday 4 pm seating. Chef was great. He really worked hard, although he messed up the delivery of orders several times. Where's my scallops? Where are the shrimp appetizers. Where are the dipping sauces? The Chef's answer was he decided to do the vegetables first because our grill was already running late. Ohhh, the shrimp, salmon and scallops came out at the very end . . . and I still didn't get my scallops, although the other guy got his. And what is with the Yakisoba noodles being used as an appetizer? Ok then, we had to shift to the fork because the noodles were chopped to give each person an assorted-sized portion. And I'm not complaining that I got the obviously last very small portion. Chopsticks, not working here. It seems like everything was off. Perhaps it was because it being so busy. Lots of birthdays. Lots of kids. My wife loves teppanyaki. I like teppanyaki as well, just without the choo-choo train onion. CritDicks

No complaints for quality of food and entertainment from chef! Prices are a bit high but they give a good portion and if you're lucky, you can sample orders from a diff party at your shared table when there's extra lol. Cocktail was dangerous because of how good it was. They will give you a free dessert if you post on instagram with their hashtag and follow their account. Their "happy hour" isn't much of a happy hour as it is available every day from open to close so that might be worth checking out. Love that you have options to get a half order on some of the rolls. Got seated right away for a party of 4 on a holiday. Service could definitely use a lot of work though - workers don't seem the most hospitable or seem to forget the things you ask for. My dad also felt like the soup didn't come out that hot.

Went to celebrate my daughter's birthday here yesterday and wow this was my first time here and it did not disappoint. The vibe was so awesome. The waitress was amazing and the cook was very funny and talented. My daughter truly enjoyed herself. Also the food was so yummy. Everything was great will be back for birthday celebrations again. Thank you

A better, more intimate alternative to Benihana. Faster service, food is as good or better and the chefs are more entertaining.

Great food, service, and very entertaining. The San Marcos location is close for us and have been several times. Each visit was great.

How many does one full section seat? From the photos, it seems like it's 18?

I'm curios how you're supposed to tip? Does server share tip with chef? We tipped the chef by handing him cash and tipped the server on the bill but now wondering if she shared that with him too?

We tip the chef every time but yes the chef does receive a percentage from the server tip as well.

    Have they re-opened yet?

Yes they have! The remodel looks amazing plenty of new grills!

Can they substitute with brown rice?

They are really accommodating, I would just ask.

Is this location permanently closed? Drove by tonight and they have a construction dumpster out front and lights are out.

Closed for renovation, reopening in November.

Got you--just adding ambiance in a natural way without making it sound extra:…read more Tried Papi's Teppanyaki food truck and it was actually really solid. I got the chicken and steak with fried rice and a side of egg rolls. The portions were good and definitely filling. The chicken was tender, steak was cooked well, and everything had good flavor without being too heavy. The fried rice had that classic buttery taste with egg and veggies, and the egg rolls were crispy and fresh. Service was quick and easy, and the staff was friendly. It's a food truck so nothing fancy, but the setup was clean and it had a chill, casual vibe. Overall just a good, reliable spot when you want something quick and satisfying. I'd go back.

Went here on a Sunday and there was a deal online for the half and half steak and shrimp for $20!…read moreFelt like a great deal to me and it seems like they have different deals on different days online. We ordered online and picked it up. The process was smooth and efficient and the food was DELICIOUS! I've been craving hibachi for weeks and this definitely hit the spot. Their yum yum sauce was a good spicy mayo taste and the food was very fragrant with their garlic butter. Everything was cooked to perfection, including the rice, shrimp, steak, and vegetables. My favorite was the steak! Can't wait to go back. You can either take it to go, or there were chairs and bar tables to sit at under the shade (at the location we were at) if you'd rather eat there, though parking was limited.

I have no idea if some of these reviewers even know what they're complaining about, like the "miso"…read moresoup that's actually consommé, and is very tasty. Maybe it doesn't have an Insta ready wall for fancy pics but it's a hidden gem that's been run by the same award winning chef for decades. There are pictures of him with generations of famous people from the world over who eat here so that speak speaks for itself. Also, he must be over 80 and he still greets and seats every customer personally. The place has been around a while so one might consider it a bit "rustic" and sure there's a wait, but that's because this place has stood the test of time and still turns out incredible food and service. And no, like the other reviewers said, there's no sushi but this is an authentic teppan whose focus is grilled food...and they're great at it

Unfortunately, this visit didn't live up to what we remembered. Being given plastic utensils while dining in was surprising, especially at this price point. The service and food were just okay, and the "miso soup" was actually plain chicken broth, which was disappointing and unexpected. Overall, it didn't feel like the same experience we used to enjoy. I hope this is taken as constructive criticism, as we'd love to see the quality return to what it once was.
