Food is fresh and amazing, portions are perfect and service is excellent!! My favorite sushi spot!

Checked this place out based on a few recommendations from friends about new owners and improved service. We are definitely NOT disappointed! We came in for dinner on a Friday night at 7p during a heat wave. There was about 4 tables seated and we were greeted soon as we walked in. They cleared a booth for us immediately. The menu is large with a lot of options. Prices are good. We ordered the beef wrapped asparagus as an app and each got a bento box. The beef wrap asparagus is good. Different from what I was expecting and had a heavier sauce that what I'm used to but the asparagus was tender and it was good. The salad and miso soup that came with the boxes were very good. My husband had croquettes and chicken katsu and he said both were good. I never had salmon katsu and asked our waiter about it and he was honest and said he never tried it but that it looked good! I ordered that and tempura. Tempura was delicious! Salmon katsu was good but a little heavy with the breading. We also both opted to upgrade to garlic fried rice. Our bill with one soda (can of Coke which is great as the can is my husbands preference) was $57. Great deal for the amount of food and it's quality! The owner was making sushi but took the time to chat a bit and thank us for coming in. There were several take out orders going out as well. Next time, I'll try the sushi as all the rolls looked so good too! read more

Listen. Shogun is an older named establishment and it was the happening spot! At least 25 years later, if not 30 years, I came to revisit and I wasn't sure what to think coming in. I am so not disappointed! The place is clean!! Service on point and Food was authentic and delicious! We payed under what we normally would at any other Japanese Cuisine and SO HAPPY WITH THE OUTCOME OF OUR VISIT. Don't turn your nose up to this spot!!!! I give it a 4-5 stars easily. read more

My new favorite spot for sushi! I've come multiple times now and every time it's a pleasant time. The sushi has the best flavor. The owner is very nice, welcoming and attentive. I highly recommend this place, and will continue to bring my family & friends. Favorites: Spicy edamame, poke and poke ceviche are my go to appetizers. I love the way menu explain the term in Sushi world and the way they described detail for each role. The manager was super friendly. He came out to greet us and welcome us the first time. Price for each role was student affordable and delicious with different in tatse compare to others location around. I especially like the sauce in salad dressing that came with the sashimi deluxe. The sushi was delicious! I came here with my best friend and we both enjoyed our rolls. The owner and server were very friendly and attentive. We told the owner it was our first time here and he checked in with us a couple of times to see how we were doing. We got to-go boxes because we ordered multiple rolls (we were excited and it was our first meal of the day) and the owner asked us if we would like mochi ice cream. We told him that we were already full, and he decided to give us two carbonated soft drinks on the house. Overall, we had a wonderful experience here. Shogun is honestly hands down one of the best sushi spots in stockton. We have been going there for years, the owners are guys from back when the original owners had it so everything has reverted back to how it used to be. I am always excited to have sushi there because you know what you're getting and it's constantly consistent. The sushi chefs are always great to host a party and always recommend some Amazing rolls. Located in the relatively quiet Hammer Ranch shopping center across from Save Mart & the US Post Office, you wouldn't necessarily expect to find a Japanese restaurant of this caliber. I've been to many Japanese restaurants over the years and I have to say this is definitely one of the best in the area (top 1%!) and on par with great establishments in the Bay Area! We regularly choose this restaurant over others around the city due to its excellent food quality, spacious & clean dining area, and exceptionally friendly staff. Every dish we've tried has been spot on and the portions are so generous that I end up having to box up food to take home. I come to find out later that the new owner (since 2022?) has decades of experience in preparing Japanese cuisine, which explains why he executes so incredibly. I'm so grateful this city has high quality places like Shogun! They're also open on Sundays which is a rarity for Japanese restaurants! read more

Went today for lunch for the first time in years. The servers were very pleasant. Now the food. Tempura Shrimp and veggies were the best I've had in awhile. Also loved the spicy edamame..that sauce was so good. The spider roll was good but didn't have the crunch I'm used to on this roll. The teriyaki chicken was a little tough for my liking but my cousin loved it. Cousin also enjoyed the fried calamari. I will go back and try different rolls and DEFINITELY the tempura shrimp and veggies.. not greasy like other places. Why 5 stars when I had complaints on some of the food?? It is a small but warm place. The Deluxe sashimi set was super fresh and delicious. The rolls were good. I like the salmon house salad the most. Me personally like to have more sauce so the salad was perfect too me but my friend said she prefer less sauce. Service was great. Went here recently for my father-in-law's birthday. Great experience. The owner is awesome and clearly cares about his customers. He was really helpful with our party (storing our cake, and getting the restaurant to sing happy birthday) and made sure we had a great night all in all. You can tell he cares about his customer's experience. And the food was really good too. I recommend the Hawaiian Poke, but really everything we ate was delicious. It was also a good crowd, good vibes, had some karaoke going, highly recommended if you wanna get some good food in a great atmosphere. read more

I hate leaving a bad review, especially on a place i've never been to. But spending $50+ on something as mediocre as the sushi that came from this restaurant? Yikes. The avocado tasted unripe and even the masago tasted like it was past its expiration date. The sauce was weird, like teriyaki but off brand? and the lion king was the worst excuse for a lion king i've ever had. The description said spicy mayo for half of the rolls we had but none of them tasted at all like spicy mayo. It was so bad we didn't even finish eating it, and we are NOT picky people at all :( read more
