One of my favorite places in RI for hibachi! Shogun has been around for years and always consistent. They usually have a bit of a wait but it's worth it. Angel was our hibachi chef and he was fun, did a great presentation, and attentive. He made sure that the entire table was all set before cleaning up his station. Great service! I come here several times and each hibachi chef has their own unique style of cheffing it up, with neat tricks and a fun show! I ordered the shrimp tempura for an app and it's juicy and crispy. 3.5/5 average is accurate. i did not look this place up before going since my friends picked it for their birthday and i was tagging along for the vibe. the staff there are really nice and the food was good and the show was cute. however the wait time was draining. like we checked in around 5:20pm and weren't seated until close to 7pm. then the show took a while. so if you want to do anything else with your evening don't come here that day. it was also everyone's birthday so they slam a drum and sing loudly every few minutes which must be exhausting for the staff. they generously give every birthday free fried ice cream. it was also pricey food for what it was. like the plate i show you is the steak only plate and it was $31.... that's wild considering this place is randomly in warwick by a freeway with no views and a muggy, dark interior. i mean kr was good tasting but like no fancy steak or anything. my friends got garlic noodles and it was $10 extra per person. the ratio of carb to protein is not good. it's like prov place food court but double the price. i prob won't come back again but i enjoyed it for what it was. read more

We went in on a Tuesday night at 5 PM and we were the first ones to arrive. Everything was fresh, the chef was very entertaining, and we were given very large portions. I ordered the beef hibachi dinner for $30. We started with soup and salad, which was very good. Then the hibachi chef did his thing and gave us a taste of the grilled shrimp. The fried rice was was amazing and we ordered the noodles too. The steak was very flavorfull and cooked exactly how I ordered it. Our table had no complaints and we even got dessert because it was my birthday. By the time we left the whole place was packed and all of the hibachi tables were filled. The hostess/manager was rude & aggressive. After my table ordered my sister walked in to say hello (to my uncle visiting RI) she wasn't planning on ordering. The hostess aggressively walks up to our table to tell us we have to wait for the chefs to go to another table because we have another person. She didn't even ask about the situation just got so defensive & aggressive, the whole vibe was weird. Then when we told her my sister wasn't getting hibachi & we couldn't wait bc my uncle had to catch a flight soon, she said well my customers can't wait and stormed off... it was so odd, and could have been easily explained & communicated. DYSFUNCTIONAL! STAY AWAY! Abbreviated version: The hibachi is good but the customer service was a fail, it got so cold in the dining room that you could see your breath, the staff showed no empathy to and couldn't care less the only thing they knew how to do is take an order. We wanted out of there so badly at the end that we didn't realize until we got home they automatically added gratuity which is shameful especially after the worst dining experience any of us have ever had. It's been six days since this all occurred and I am still trying to wrap my head around the avalanche of epic failures that occurred and believe it or not there is so much more that went wrong but this review is already long enough. You just can't make this up‍ Here are more details: Made a 7pm reservation for my daughters birthday dinner well 7 came and was a distant memory after several complaints we asked what's to point of making a reservation the same hostess who took my reservation on the phone tried to claim they do not take reservations, people that were walk-ins got seated before us finally seated at almost 8pm. We asked for a cooked sushi appetizer that was on the menu but they weren't making sushi that night, we realized the heat was out as we waited almost another hour for the cook who arrived as we were standing up to walk out and at this point everyone in the dining room was bundling up. My my my! I was missing my favorite hibachi place back home, and Shogun came through for the rescue. I visited Shogun on a Friday evening. There were a few people around the hibachi grills celebrating birthdays and eating, but I decided to have dinner at the bar. I ordered the hibachi chicken and shrimp with a full order of fried rice. The food was impeccable. It was seriously cooked to perfection. I also had one of Shogun's cocktails. I enjoy a nice occasional drink. Though I cannot recall the name of the cocktail, I must admit: it gave me the after work buzz I needed. I received good service from Shogun. I have no complaints! I will return soon. read more

Wow! This used to be my favorite restaurant at one point in time & now it appears to have gone down the tubes immensely. For two INEDIBLE meals- $100- I might as well have burned my money. I ordered the half filet and chicken hibachi and my boyfriend ordered the filet. $40 for this compared to $28 for the filet meal at Yamato (which is a 5000X better. We asked for fried rice and we received white rice. Asked for extra pink sauce and didn't get that either. The filet was "tough" and the vegetable to meat ratio was wayyy off. The vegetables were gross and were mostly onions!! The only edible part of my meal was the chicken. The pink sauce used to be amazing- idk if they changed it but it's awful now. We literally were starving when we ordered but our meals were both INEDIBLE. That's how disgusting the meals were. I can't believe I'm even writing this review after having countless birthday's and celebration dinners here. BEYOND disappointed! I will NOT be returning sadly. read more

They have 'call ahead' seating and we got there on time, Still waited 2 HOURS for a table due to a large party taking up 3 (of only 8 ) of the grill tables who were allowed to stay way past their meal times (over 2.5 hours!). Several staff gave gentle hints to leave, they did not. 3 women were very drunk and standing up between the grills and dancing. Management did not move them along, so dozens of other customers waited 90 or more minutes past their call time. When they finally have left, several customers were flipping them off. The restaurant needs a timed, enforced table limit (like other establishments) or stop taking call ahead/reservation type times. It just ruins customers evenings when thing are 90+ minutes delayed. We have been going for 10 + years, but We will not go again if this policy is not changed. read more

We came here on a Saturday evening knowing this is one of the more popular hibachi restaurants in the area. When we came in, it was the start of dinner time so it wasn't busy yet. We got seated, placed our orders and were served soup and salad. This is where everything started to go wrong. Before we had even eaten half of our soup, our server had asked if we were done with the soup and salad at least 3 times... it seemed very pushy (foreshadowing). The show was good, food had good flavor, and the portions were generous. But dear oh my the service. My girlfriend received her food and two minutes later the waitress came to the table with to-go boxes.... UMPROMPTED! She began to pack up other groups' food and even told us "I'll come to you last so you can have a couple moments to eat." This was one of the worst things I've ever seen a waitstaff do in my entire life. On the way out the door, we told the host and manager about the situation, and he did not care whatsoever. My husband threw me a surprise party here for my birthday. He was bummed since they wouldn't seat everyone until the whole party was there, even though they had a ton of seating available on Tuesday night. Also, considering there were 12 of us and the whole grill only had enough seats for our party. So my friends ended up surprising me at the door instead of our table. Our waitress was great though and did a great job checking in on us. Our chef wasn't as inviting as I am used to when it comes to Hibachi. He just stuck to tricks and cooking the food. I'm usually used to the chef including us and throwing food for us to catch, etc.. however, the food was good and was cooked fairly quickly. Went tonight 4 days after their grand re-opening. For a Monday night at 730, it was BUSY. I was told it would be a 35 minute wait. Waited for about 50 minutes to be seated. Timing with being served courses was horrendous. We arrived at 738 pm and walked out at 1030. Food and drinks were delicious as they always have been. Our chef was wonderful, I wish he had a name tag so I could mention him. He did mention how he dropped out of college to work there as a chef he was phenomenal and so funny and personable. I am hoping this restaurant gets back to its norm of fast service but I am thankful that tonight my children were super patient and were excited to be back at hibachi. read more

Time for an update. 5 stars across the board. 4 of us went Saturday night for a 5 pm reservation. We had Odi as our chef and he was fantastic!!! All of our food was delicious. I'm not sure why people complain about paying extra for the fried rice on Friday and Saturday. We ordered 1 order fried rice and 1 order of garlic noodles as well as 4 entrees. One order of fried rice is more than enough for 4 people. Some people need to stop being so cheap and support family restaurants like this or don't go here on the weekend. Based on the reviews it appears Shogun needs to review their reservation practice. It's deceitful and disgraceful. We did not read these reviews beforehand and made a 7:30 reservation, which was on the later end of what we prefer but we really had our hearts set on our toddler having his first hibatchi experience today. We arrived at 7:25 and checked in... we were simply told "there is a little bit of a wait and we'll call you when your table is ready. We thought no big deal if we have to wait 10-15 mins, it is what it is. We go outside and stand next to a large family, who tell us "We had a 7 PM reservation and they just told us another 15 mins." So we said let's go get comfortable in the car ... 30 mins later it's now 8 PM, our toddler is getting figitity, so we call in from the car... we are told 10 more minutes... 30 minutes later it's now 8:30... why did we even make a reservation? We get out of our car and I go back in ... they say they are clearing 2 tables and we'll be up next ... they finally called us in at 8:55. 1 hour, 25 min wait with a reservation... and we weren't alone. Unfortunately that just ruins the whole experience. The host did get us a free app, but doesn't help solve the problem... this practice allows them to push reservations to 8 and 9 and keep the place packed until close because people don't realize they are going to have to wait so long ... problem is when you keep being told 10 mins it's a tough call whether to trust them or leave. At this point we aren't planning on going back. Also the food was incredibly salty, soda was flat, just not a good experience. read more

I LOVE the food at Shogun. What I DO NOT LOVE is the noise level. The night we went it was ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. Horrible. After I complained (twice) thankfully the music was turned down a bit. And it was better... for a while... Then it magically got turned back up to an unacceptable level. Ridiculous. Apparently there is a favored bartender that is given carte blanch for some reason to control the music. Well, sadly, it is an epic fail of management to allow such a thing. It's an assault on all patrons. (Perhaps that's why second location in South County Commons closed... maybe they tried to be a discotheque and that the excellent food succumbed to the fact that people didn't want to be assaulted in the ears in a less tolerant market.) And that is a shame... but makes perfect sense. They have wonderful food and the quality is excellent. I spent over $400 for our dinner for 7 of us at our own hibachi table. And quite frankly, I would do it again in a heartbeat. Every week. Plus (in case you all don't know... it's customary to tip chef directly... we always tip chef cash directly as appreciation for a job well done. I hope this inspires others to do the same) In closing, I'd recommend Shogun. I just wish they would be more mindful of a reality that Rhode Island population has highest percentage of elderly. And therefore of most that have to rely upon hearing aids.. Having a noise level of "X" amount of decibels is offensive and counterintuitive to good business practices. We sat at one of the hibachi tables on a Saturday night. Compared to other hibachi restaurants I've been to, the chef who was cooking in front of me was much less involved. He didn't throw any food at us or squirt saki in our mouths which is the whole fun of it. He only said a few words the whole time. They also don't give you complimentary fried rice on weekend nights like every other place I've been to does. I ordered sushi and thought it'd be out at the same time the hibachi was done but I had to sit and wait for it for awhile. The sushi wasn't bad but I've had better.
