Stopped in for a later lunch. Not too many patrons there. We were seated right away in the back area. Menus were easy to read and after a little bit we made our orders. Wanted an appetizer and also a separate roll to eat. Let them know our entrees and a few minutes later we were served our miso soup. Which seemed to be clam based as I tasted Little seafood clam in the seasoning. It was still good though. Although we both received two different kinds of spoons for the soup. After waiting, my entree arrived, before the appetizers and before our other entree. The other items and appetizers didn't come out until I was almost dove with my entree. How did I not know this was here?! Tucked into the side of the plaza we noticed "wasabi" and just HAD to go in and try it. Upon walking in we were besties right away and couldn't stop looking around at all the detail, decor and delicious food around us! The sushi here is good. But the kitchen food is not. I had the hibachi and that was decent. But everything else was kinda below average. I usually order a nice salad and a sushi roll and I'm not gonna lie I've been pleased with them for the past couple of years. But today the food and service was pretty bad. I ordered a stir fry.. (happy family) it didn't taste like oyster sauce. Tasted like a weird chasu sauce mix and the beef and chicken in the dish was overly velveted that it was mushy. Stir fry is very easy.. it's just oyster sauce. How can you mess that up? Ordered scallop nigiri. Oh man - it was putrid. I told the server and she brushed me away and told me she was "too busy, it's fresh and to go and speak with the manager cause she was busy" wow, that really annoyed me cause I don't ever complain. Actually I usually just pay and leave- probably never come back. But I told myself I wasn't gonna be paying for bad food anymore. So I asked them to please take it off the check and smell the scallop. She refused. Till the manager came. The manger smelled it and knew right away it was bad. She even scrambled to remove it from the sushi case switch I commend. She didn't give me any trouble. So overall, good sushi bad kitchen food! I've come here a few times and the food is excellent, consistently. The outside is very unassuming, located in a giant shopping plaza, which is great because of the ample parking. Inside the ambiance is unexpected. Dark walls and nice lighting with private dining booths along one wall. I've gotten a variety of sushi dishes, soups, and a noodle dish there. I had never been to this restaurant before but knew they had been there for awhile and thought I'd give it a shot while I was shopping on Bald Hill Road. Had a sushi roll that was recommended, but was not impressed at all to be honest. My friend had that tried in true General Taos chicken. Nothing special over here with that. It was just OK and the fried rice was definitely not great. Too bad the interior of the space is really nice, but the food was just OK. Although I only got takeout this time, I'm really looking forward to coming back to Wasabi to dine in. It's in a plaza with Staples & Petsmart & other big businesses on Bald Hill, so imagine my surprise when I went inside to pick up my order & saw how swanky the restaurant was. It has a great vibe - high ceilings, well lit & well decorated, & kind employees. I got the special RI roll, as well as a cucumber/avocado maki, & a miso soup. The avocado/cucumber maki was mediocre & the miso soup was delicious & hit the spot. BUT the RI roll was one of the best sushi rolls I've had in a long time. Fresh, tender, & delicious. I will absolutely be ordering this again. Best part of the meal. They did charge me 25 cents for GF soy sauce, which I thought was a little strange. I cannot believe these bad reviews. I am a sushi lady. I hit up all the sushi places in Rhode Island. This is one of my top favs. Wasabi, kon, Sakura, uncle sushi. Not necessarily in that order. They all have their own special magic to each one. I am going to throw ebisu in there too. As they do have some sushi type apps and I love their shabu shabu (it's a whole in the wall on Pontiac Ave, but a hidden gem nevertheless).so the wasabi magic first i will say this and die in this hill, SWEETHEART SALAD. That is honestly the best Salad I have ever had, hands down. It's made for sharing but I ain't sharing! It's just an adventure with every bite. I swear they must put 2 whole avocados in it. The next glimmer of magic is their little dining table rooms with curtains. If you aren't into sitting near strangers whilst plowing saucy sushi this is the place for you. It has like a romantic ambiance to it. I miss when they first opened and nobody had discovered it yet because now I can never get fhe hidden table room. Next the fire dragon roll! It is absolutely delicious and it has Bacardi 151 on it so it comes on FIRE! Who doesn't love fire, am I right!? I love the owner lady she is quiet but she really cares about her customers and has a great calming aura to her. All the employees seem relaxed and happy to be there. In my opinion to get hibachi there is a travesty, not that it is bad. My friend got it once and it was legit. The Victoria secret roll is a cool one definitely give it a try. And there are so many more I like. The only negative thing I would have to say is for a place called Wasabi they are a bit stingy on the Wasabi .oh and there can be a wait for food but it's okay by me, especially if im in my hideaway. read more

Sushi was good, we had the wasabi roll- tasty, we also had endaname- it was average at best...warm, not hot. Hubby had the Hibachi chicken and shrimp combo- this is NOT a Hibachi per say (they don't cook it in front of you). He said it was okay. Overall all the sushi was good. I ordered chicken Pad Thai for my meal and they never brought it out...when we told them about it they apologized....I said to forget it as I was stuffed with the sushi. They said that it's because they have 1 chef that quit...so they only have 1(?). Now this is where I will tell you they need LOTS OF WORK....the ladies bathroom was horrible....only 1 light in there...so one stall is almost totally dark...the water to wash your hands in the sink dribbles out very little and it was freezing...only cold water, no hot water at all....and the garbage can was filled will about an inch thick of dust. So my biggest gripe was the bathroom...and that I didn't get the meal, but...actually the sushi was very good. read more

I'm not ashamed of how much we've spent on the **sushi rolls** here in the past 3 months or so. Maybe we should try a different restaurant, but Wasabi is close to home and hasn't disappointed us. We haven't dined in yet (mostly because of Covid) and we like to eat at home. So far the takeout is great! Properly packaged, nothing has spilled. Customer service is very good, polite and fast. Quality and tastiness of the sushi rolls are yummy and consistent - we order the same roll multiple times and they taste the same every time and are the same sizes. Rolls we've gotten (because I also want to make a note to myself): Warwick - excellent. Pirate - tastes similar to Warwick, probably will never order again since we prefer the Warwick. Rainbow - this is my baseline for all sushi rolls, I generally get this or a variation at all sushi places I eat at. Green Dragon - I love avocado. WOW!! - I personally like seaweed salad a lot so this works for me. It's different, light and refreshing. Godzilla - very good! Perfect - good! For portions, we generally do from 1.5 roll per person (so we order 3 rolls for 2 people) or we order 4-5 rolls when we want to celebrate and/or overstuff ourselves. Giving Wasabi a 5-star review, because that's what I do for places I order a lot from and am happy to be a customer of! Plus, for the consistency of quality, quantity, price, and service. Giving 2 stars because they're not very consistent. The first 2 times we went here were decent, but this time, our takeout order was pretty bad. The scallop roll looked like it was made with canned scallops: diced really small, bland, and rubbery. The shrimp tempura (which is normally pretty good) was very mushy and almost undercooked. The spicy salmon was almost soup-y in texture. None of the rolls held up well and the nori was very chewy and almost gummy. We also ordered a "crispy shrimp" dish and it was kind of odd because it came with a mountain of greasy, loose panko crumbs. The shrimp wasn't really crispy at all and had a weird aftertaste that reminded me of old oil. Plus, they didn't devein the shrimp entirely so there were some pieces with shrimp poop in them. read more

A perfect place for lunch! They serve lunch until 3PM on the week days and the prices are amazing (they also have 30% off sushi until 3PM). I got 3 rolls and miso soup for $12 and my partner got salmon hibachi for the same price. I ordered the shrimp tempura roll, spicy salmon roll, and vegetable roll. All three were delicious and tasted very fresh. I like how the shrimp tempura roll wasn't just shrimp, it was full with veggies too. The spicy salmon roll tasted fresh and had some crunch to it which I like. The lunch portion of the salmon hibachi was so impressive for the price. The salmon was crispy on the outside but not overcooked on the inside. The flavor of the dish was amazing and it came with a tasty white sauce on the side. Both lunch meals were very filling. We were sat in a booth that was completely enclosed and private with a little curtain - perfect for COVID and created a really fun ambiance. We came in just before lunch ended and or server didn't rush us at all and ensured us we could still order from the lunch menu. Great prices, great food, great service & ambience. The parts about this place that are 5 stars are the service, ease and quickness to order (you can order in person, online, or on the phone), and definitely the happy hour. Happy hour used to be 50% on weekdays until around 3, and now it's 35%. This makes sense though since Covid. The sushi is pretty good, as well as their other items like rice, gyoza, and lo mein. I'll start by saying that I an not a fan of Japanese food, but my review has nothing to do with the food. I went with a group of my friends and first of all, we were seated in a closed off booth with a curtain. Very claustrophobic. My friends ordered basically Chinese dishes and I ordered nim chow and vegetable and shrimp tempura. It was cooked well but the service was terrible. I got my food first and then every five minutes another dish came out for one of my friends. One friend's food came out after we were all done eating. Our server never checked on us. We could only ask for something when she came out with someone's food and then she just dropped the food and disappeared. I had to ask for napkins and a fork. (Not everyone can or wants to eat with chopsticks) I also had to ask for pickled ginger and wasabi and was charged $1 for a tiny amount of both. We went to dinner and I can't figure it out. I don't think they know either. Do they sell Japanese or Chinese food? My wife ordered the Hibachi Steak and I had the Orange Chicken Combo. I asked for hot mustard and they don't have it. The fried rice is horrible as it is just white rice with soy sauce. Add some flavor to it. Anyways, my friend and I ordered five rolls: Angry Dragon, Dynamite, Manhattan, New Years , and Patriot. These special rolls aren't listed on the website but most of them included spicy tuna, avocado, spicy mayo, shrimp tempura, and eel (Angry Dragon) Sushi is prepared and rolled to order and the presentation of all the rolls looked great. Ingredients were fresh, and the rolls were pretty big, so I had to take some of it home. Overall, I was more impressed than I was the last time I ate here. The 1/2 off sushi deal is worth checking out if you want to try different rolls or if you want to add a special roll to share alongside an entree. read more
