Cute decor but found some weird quirks. Instead of tap water; we got bottled water instead (and every table too.) Think it was like $3 extra. The water bottle was a consistent part of this restaurant. Would be nice to have complimentary tap water; but the restaurant seems to run on low staff and that would require more staffing (a water person maybe?) read more

Tried this new place out the other night during Summer Stroll. Husband and I were very impressed. The ornate plates and cups charmed us immediately, but, of course, that means nothing if the food isn't good--and, oh boy, it was! I ordered the Uzbek plov as I wanted to try something that was relatively unique to the place and that I hadn't tried before. Soooo good! Delicious, tender beef and lamb served up over carrots and rice. And the portion size was HUGE! Husband and I split a plate of manti--big, tasty dumplings reminiscent of pierogis or vareniki, except bigger--and they absolutely hit the spot. The cheese served with them was the perfect complement. Husband got the lamb kebab and let me try a piece. It was perfectly seasoned and tender, exactly what I want out of a good kebab. It came out served on a huge, sword-like skewer with a little aluminum foil at the end so you don't burn your fingers. There were a few quirks that weren't enough to detract too much from the experience but are worth pointing out. There were wine glasses on the table...which I thought was curious as the place is halal. That is to say, no wine. (Not that I'm complaining! I'm happy with tea and water, thank you.) Is there another drink on the menu that's best housed in a wine glass? Also, my plov came out first--as in a few minutes after I ordered it--but it took a relatively long time for my husband's kebab to come out. In the meantime, I was happy to share my plov, which was big enough in portion to satiate both of us. It made me wonder if mine came out so fast because they had it all ready to go, or if it's meant to come out first like an appetizer and be shared with the table. Ah, well. One other thing of note: their prices are very reasonable, but they did charge a small service fee, too small to qualify as a tip. You'll want to add something on top of it when you pay. it's been over a week since i came in for lunch and i can't stop thinking about this spot. we were wandering bay ridge and wanting to try a place we had not stopped in before. i saw "uzbekistan" on the front and immediately hopped over the street to come in. was blown away by the beautiful decor as soon as we walked in. i'm obsessed with the veiled booths and choice in curtains. elevated the entire atmosphere and made our dining experience comfortable and classy. we ordered the egg salad dish with olives and steak in it (forgot the name) but oh my goodness what a concept. i have never craved an egg salad before until i had this one. i live out of state so i am desperately looking up recipes until i can return (with my entire family who needs to try this too). the manti was amazing and the lamb chops were cooked perfectly to be like lollipops. also love how the table has cayenne pepper, salt, and vinegar as the condiments. such a refreshing change. our server was so sweet. sometimes she would open her phone to translate what we said to make sure we understood each other. motivated me to want to learn some small talk in Russian. 10/10 will be back. read more

Meh. Food was good but not remarkable - lagman was as expected, but I'd been looking forward to some pumpkin manti which was not on the menu. Service VERY inattentive, and food took FOREVER, which was confusing. The only other guests spoke very little English but were more than generous with the Ketel One they brought (snuck?) in, so that helped pass the time (even if it was more than a little creepy and definitely not halal).To be fair , it was a Monday afternoon and the owner appeared to be getting some unwelcome attention from the fire department in regards to his tandoor (sp?). The decor inside looks very upscale. The prices of everything are reasonable. Food was very flavorful. There were a few things they do very well and some things that I didn't care for. To start, you get complimentary fresh hot bread, cucumbers, tomatoes and onions. You want to make a sandwich and add all the veggies plus salt and pepper. So good! The pepper on the table isn't black pepper, it's cayenne and I love that. If you are coming to an Uzbek restaurant Plov is an absolute must order, and they do it very well. I'm not too into rice dishes but I didn't leave a single grain on that plate. And the lamb shank you get, I was sucking the bone to get every ounce of meat. Absolutely fantastic. The fried lagman was also very good. Tender and spicy noodles with soft beef. We also got the lagman soup but there wasn't any noodles, even though the description said there would be. Otherwise, it was good. Nothing amazing but def comforting in a cold day. The last two items we ordered we did not really care for much. The manti is big beef dumplings with yogurt and the beef itself was too fatty and chewy for my liking, I wouldn't order it again. We also ordered the mini dumplings which was better than the manti but not much flavor. I wouldn't order the dumplings again. There was only one waiter for the whole restaurant and he did a good job being attentive to us. Overall I enjoyed trying this Uzbek place and worth trying this underrepresented cuisine! read more

Food and service is good but they charge an additional 10% on top of your bill for "service fee" which is supposedly "for the chefs." It's aside from tax and tips which makes no sense. We went to dinner at this cute beautiful new Uzbek restaurant in our neighborhood 73rd st and 3rd ave. The restaurant must have opened only a few weeks. Our waitress was very nice and told us all the food is cooked fresh to order so the wait is a bit longer. We never had Uzbek before so this was a nice adventure. Our appetizer was 5 Chicken wings kebab with raw onions over it. It was lightly seasoned with a side sauce of tomatoes and herb for $7.99. It was good but if it was charred more, it would have been perfect. We ordered 2 main dishes. The menu is limited for now, maybe when they get more business, hopefully they will have a wider selection. My main dish was Uzbek Plov $18.99 a giant size dish of delicious pieces of seasoned beef mixed with lamb chunks over rice and carrots. The was sooo good and filling, I can't believe it's only $19, definitely I'll be back for that! It comes with a small fresh salad of ruby red juicy tomatoes and cucumbers and thinly sliced red onions and fresh baked Uzbek bread. The other dish we had was Jiz Biz grilled seasoned lamb chops. There's only 4 lamb chops over a bed of French fries for $27.99. That was the most expensive dish on the menu. The chops was perfectly medium well cooked, and tender. Everything was priced on the low side for a Bay Ridge restaurant! This will become one of my favorite restaurants in Bay Ridge, I just hope it doesn't get too crowded once the word is out about this wonderful new Resturant. Here's the deal, issue 1- a service charge is automatically added to your bill, not sure what its for, i paid cash and ordered delivery, and tipped well, i think the service charge drove up the bill atleast 10%, in addition to the tax and delivery. So you order a few things its lets say $60 bucks after all that it comes to like $90. Not worth it and wont order again, honestly i felt ripped off. Just change the prices on your menu and put it into the food. The plov- the national dish was really good, the rest of the food was ok, not great, Jizbiz lambchops were cooked too low and not charred and rubbery, the home made bread was a day old. Place is a nice place. staff is very nice, and food is cooked fresh. so if it wasent for that i would order again. read more
