It's my favorite hotpot place. I'm usually very picky with hotpot because I don't usually like hotpot. The service here is top-notch. They're very attentive. The servers are constantly checking on the soup, clearing out the grime in the soup, and pouring water. There can be a wait for dinner, so I usually join the waitlist before heading over. Every table has an iPad where you can place your order. The food here is decently priced, and the portions are generous. Everything is super fresh, especially their seafood. I really like their bone and tomatoes broths. They have a sauce bar. The sauce bar has snack foods, fruits, and dessert. They charge for the sauce bar per person, so make sure you check it out. The decor is very traditional Chinese. They have big tables, but there are no overhead vents, so you'll smell like hotpot. They do have storage bins where you can put jackets and purses. read more

Honestly was hoping for more. But have to say Haidilao is still my all time favorite hot pot spot in NYC. Since we don't live in NYC anymore, when we come to Flushing, we have to eat really good hot pot to make our trips worth. We were debating whether to try this place or to go to our all-time favorite spot Haidilao for hot pot. Since this place is located inside the Tangram Mall, and we had family that wanted to check the mall out, we opted for here. But honestly though after coming here I wished we went to Haidilao instead. To start, the seats here aren't as comfortable as Haidilao. It's all benches. The first thing we noticed when we walked in was also how cold it was. The AC was literally blasting! When coming for hot pot, you have to try the mala soup base. And here it was overly spicy even though we got a mild. And OMG, Soo much grease!!! Just look at the pictures when they first brought up the soup pot to see how much cow fat we were actually eating. My husband said he literally he felt like he was drinking butter. The soup base was a bit unbearable and lacked flavor IMO. We also had the mushroom soup base and that was just ok. Item wise, we got bunch of stuff to put in the hot pot. Everything was fresh. Really nothing much to say. Sauce bar was decent. They had all your basic sauces, oil, spice, garlic, etc. They also had fruits, and some cold dishes like spicy tofu curd to munch on. For beer drinkers, this might disappoint you. They only have bottle beers on the menu. Booo!! We love a good draft beer with our hot pot. Service was decent. And they give you apron so you don't stain your clothes. At the end of your meal, they gave us those small container size of factory made ice cream. While that was nice, I can't help it but to compare to Haidilao's soft serve ice cream that was much better. Overall this is a solid spot. Another day another new hot pot place in Flushing. Shoo Loong Kan is located inside the new Tangram shopping center. Ambience: they spared no expense on the decor. The booths are built into little Asian pergolas, the tables have compartments for utensils. Food: in addition to the usual proteins like fatty beef, pork and lamb, they offer delicacies like pork intestines, lamb brains, etc. We ordered a half and half pot with pork bone on one side and spicy butter on the other. I was a little disappointed that the spicy butter was brought out as a block of frozen butter formed in a ziplock bag ... a far cry from the cute molded cow and lamb statuettes. We also had some of the hot appetizers: Fried pork strips - tough to chew on. Pig Trotter - very well seasoned and good texture. Chicken Feet - the ones at Dim Sum are far better. I was excited to try this new hotpot place in flushing. It is located in the Tangram building and you can self park in the garage for $6 for 2-3 hours (I forget). I made a reservation but it seems like there isn't much of a wait for walk ins on a weeknight. The restaurant is nicely decorated and spacious. The staff were all really nice and the service was good. They have a tablet for you to order on, equipped with pictures. We got the pork bone broth and tomato broth. Both were pretty bland to be honest. The toppings are pretty standard for hotpot places. I don't recommend the crystal beef because it tastes like cheap rubbery Chinese fast food beef. They're open all night (until 6am) so it is an option for people who are up all night and are hungry. But with endless options in flushing.. this is not my first choice. read more

All the broths were super flavorful and good! I was worried the spicy broth would be toooo spicy, and it was but still do able. A lot of times, you just taste the spicy, but because they still use the pork broth as a base, it's more flavorful. Everything was good, the only things I'd pass on are the scallops, they didn't taste that fresh. Also didn't like the crispy deep fried pork snack dish. Stand out was the shrimp paste, really liked this! The sauce bar is also good. They have some fruits and side dishes there too. WOW NEW FAVORITE HOTPOT RESTAURANT!!! I love hotpot, and I've been to a lot of hotpot restaurants in NYC, but Shoo Loong Kan was surprisingly the best. After waiting two long hours, I was worried the food wouldn't be worth the wait, but it was. Everything we ordered was delicious and good quality. Each person has to pay $3 for sauce and other side dishes, but it is definitely worth it -- they have a lot of yummy side dishes and desserts. They just opened in a new mall, so I hope these long waits won't be here forever, but they are also open until 6AM which is AMAZING!! Was in Tangram mall and hungry after watching a movie. There are many good options in this mall and my party decided to eat hotpot. We got seated right away. It's spacious inside. They have a bin to store your jacket and bags under the table. They also provided aprons. The sauce station had all the condiments that Chinese hotpot usually has. They additionally have some desserts and appetizer. They have tripe, seaweed salad, peanuts for apps. Purple rice porridge with fruits, fruits, grass jelly and toppings, and hawthorns for dessert. My group did the two soup- pork rib and spicy. The spicy had a LOT of chilies and Szechuan peppercorns. We also did the premium beef, lamb and Crystal beef for meats, for veggies we did the veggie platter and taro. It is NOT AYCE so everything is priced individually. After our meal, they even gave us ice cream. All in all, everything expected from a hotpot place with good selection and very convenient location. Came here with a party of five on a Saturday night - and we were not disappointed! While we had to wait 30 min or so, it was well worth it because we were able to feast on so many delicious meats, seafoods, and vegetables! Favorites being marinated spicy beef, mushroom platter, shrimp paste, clams (although easily get lost), and one of the thin slice variations. As with many hot pot places in the area, there was a build your own sauce station and this was one of the best ones I've ever encountered (both in quality and variety). They even had some snacks, such as edamame, tripe, and peanuts. Overall came to ~$70pp (party of 5), but we all left feeling extremely satisfied and got all that we wanted (not overly full either). We came here in a party of 4 for dinner and I left feeling super stuffed. The food here is quite good and the service was very attentive. Our server was very proactive about refilling drinks and taking away empty plates. She was really sweet and did a great job. She spoke Mandarin to us by default (like so many do in Flushing). The default chopsticks on the table were stupidly large and I was looking around confused when our server came over and asked if we needed anything. I asked if they had any smaller chopsticks and they ended up giving us the takeout chopsticks which was much more normal sized. We got two broths: mushroom and house spicy level 1. I was very surprised to see that the spicy one had these large tallow blocks that melted into the soup. I've eaten a lot of hotpot and I have never seen that before. I seriously thought it was a piece of salmon at first. Please note that even spice level 1 was incredibly spicy and I can't even imagine what 2 and 3 would be like. I don't recommend eating tons of vegetables from the spicy broth because you'll probably just die like me. I liked the sauce bar. I loaded up on sesame paste with some garlic and Thai chilis. I was pleased that they had Thai chilis although those are also super spicy so use sparingly. I also ate some pineapple and that was very sweet. The beef and lamb pieces of meat were good. Obviously very thin so they will cook quickly. I also enjoyed the hand made noodles. They were of a good thickness and chewiness. The cabbage and spinach were of course good. I also liked the tofu and it was very spongy. We ordered a pitcher of watermelon juice for $11.99 and thought that was very refreshing for the spicy broth. We ordered about 15 menu items for 4 people and were definitely too stuffed at the end. The specialty beef tripe was simply alright. The shrimp paste - although small - was very tasty and tender. Watermelon juice was delicious and nice addition to the spicy broth. Appetizers, fruit, and dessert were by the sauces (a $3 charge is added per person). TLDR: First location of a famous hot pot chain from Chengdu. Try the three-flavor pot, be ready to wait and prepare your stomach; the spicy here is hot. Whatever you do, definitely get the House Special and Tomato Broths. Emphasis on the tomato. A lot of SLK reminds me of Spice World. The interior design and the crazy waits when Spice World first opened. Came on a Tuesday night and waited about 75 minutes. They are not taking reservations at this time. The three-flavor pot is one of the better multi-broth iterations I've seen. It's not quite as small as the four-zones at Hai Di Lao. There's enough room for the ingredients to move around and for multiple people to eat out of the different broths. Opted for the House Special Chilli Broth, Tomato Broth and Pork Rib Broth. For the House Special we got 2/3 on the spice level, it was hot but not too painful. Make no mistake though, it is spicy. The tomato might have been my favorite. Not too sweet, velvety texture that just coated everything perfectly. The pork rib was decent. The broths were good enough that I barely even used the sauce I mixed. That's usually a good thing. The menu has some "must order" items which were mostly underwhelming. The meatball with cilantro was quite bland, not much seasoning or flavor. The house special black tripe was good but pricey at almost $18 per order. Shrimp paste was okay, very light - almost too light. It didn't have the bounciness that accompanies a good shrimp/fish ball. Kung-Fu Potato was basically thinly-sliced potato rounds. Enjoyable enough but didn't understand what the "kung-fu" part was or why it was labeled spicy; it was just straight up potato. The meats were all pretty solid although the lamb was gamey. I thought the short rib was the tastiest which at $15 per order, not too bad. All in all, I think SLK is a good addition to the hot pot scene. Not too hectic inside but overall solid flavors. The price is different depending on which pot you want, starting at 23$. You also pay 3$ for sauce per person. The menu doesnt have many options but they do have wagyu for 70$ which I think is a bit too much. Prices are a bit more than other hotpot spots but they do serve a lot of their ingredients fresh. The beef slices were a bit too fatty. They just fall apart once they touch the pot. The vegetables were really good. I recommend the tomato broth. You dont need to dip any sauce with whatever ingredient you put in that. Overall good experience. I came out full. Would recommend this as a 1 time thing. It was only a ten minute wait (using the app to check in) for a table of 5 on an early Friday evening, but the restaurant was completely full at the end of the meal. I would recommend coming early and putting your name down, and you can enjoy Tangram mall while waiting. We did the three types of broth - pork rib, tomato, and house special chili. For the house special chili, when requesting less spicy, it was still very spicy (but maybe I'm a baby for spice). Their sauce bar is lit and comes with peanuts, fruit, sesame balls, red bean soup, and grass jelly dessert. Favorite ingredients included the clams, shrimp paste, noodles, quail eggs, taro, and beef. I LOVED the $40 Wagyu Shoulder & $30 Wagyu Chuck Roll. It's thin so it takes literally less than 30 seconds to cook and it melts in your mouth. Service was AMAZING! Visited again last weekend and the tomato broth wasn't as thick as before more tomatoes and peppers pls I'm def going to visit again though. Tried the mushroom broth this time and strong mushroom flavor still better than others I've tried (soooo good with beef). Still my fav hotpot in flushing. Will always get the tomato and try other broths next time too read more
