It definitely did not disappoint one bit! i came here with a party of 3 and ordered many different items such as sliced beef, lamb, intestines, tofu skin, cabbage and much more! All of their ingredients tasted fresh and good quality. We started off by tasting the hotpot soup base and it was packed with flavor and umami! They also have a great sauce bar and unlimited side dishes ($3 per person). The broths were definitely the highlight - you have you get their specialty Szechuan hot pot base. We got the three flavor soup and the tomato and pork bone broths were both amazing as well. Loved the wagyu beef too, and everything they brought out from meat to veggies was super fresh! Hot pot has gotten to the level where most establishments are just top notch and not much differentiates one place from another. Shoo Loong Kan was most definitely one of the best places I've ever had hot pot. I think what really separates this chain from some others is just the incredible level of service we got here. We came on a weekend and it was packed so be prepared to wait if you're coming during peak times (we waited about an hour for a party of 4). The decor is simply amazing. Located in the new Tangram complex, the decor is classic Chinese and you feel like you're eating in a hutong back in China. The food here is also incredible. We got 3 broths (tomato, mushroom and classic spicy). The tomato broth is easily the best I've had at any restaurant while the mushroom was good (a bit bland but that's expected) and the classic spicy was fragrant and full of flavor. Meat quality here is excellent as are all their hand made meat balls. The tiger shrimp was also very fresh and tasted great. The broths are so flavorful that I think you can pass on the sauce bar (if you want to save a few bucks) if you so choose. BTW, the sauce bar has some great additions that make it totally worth it. The sauce bar has fresh fruit, grass jelly as well as fresh fried sesame balls, sweet soup and fried dough twists (mahua). Eating here was great but the service here sets the bar for all other places in Flushing. The hostess was amazing - she made sure every guest was able to check in on their waitlist and had the best attitude to ensure that people didn't get upset when confronted with a long wait. She offered to bring out drinks and snacks if you needed it and is the perfect ambassador for a great dining experience. The servers inside clearly follow her lead as they hustle to help diners with their meals, clear plates, answer questions and they do it all with a huge smile and friendly attitude. Prices here are also very reasonable and comparable to any other large hot pot chain. My kids loved it here and its their new favorite spot for hot pot. Big thumbs up. read more

We had to tell them to bring them back to the kitchen but bcz of infection control, they refused to take them back then i had to speak with the manger and he said they re for free. That s one star off bcz of the confusion and no confirmation of the ordered items on the paper menu. The other one star off for this place is that they charge you for the sauce per each person. And no explanation up front. But it came with free dessert the icy jelly and the fruit that s the only thing i like. The other thing is the bill, plz always double check before you pay. We have to get them correct our bill 3x bcz the items we didn't order, they added in the bill. The food is expensive. We paid $180 for 3 ppl including tips... we haven't spent this much everywhere else. I would not return. Just for one time experience for the pretty decor. Having heard a lot of raving reviews from friends, I dropped by on a Thursday around 5pm and was surprised there was no wait! My friend and I opted to get three soup bases: house special chili broth, tomato broth, and bone broth. We didn't get the sauce bar option ($3/pp) as the chili and tomato broth had more than enough flavor for us. We ordered 8 items between the 2 of us which was the perfect amount without feeling stuffed. We got: - duck intestine $17 - definitely yummy but not the tiny bits get lost so easily in the broth - short rib $15 - freshly cut but very run of the mill hotpot meat - fatty beef $11 - literally melt in your mouth goodness! - house special duck gizzard $10- the gizzard was so fresh and if cooked perfectly, you get the perfect crunch when you bite down! Be sure not to overcook it - handmade beef balls $9- super flavorful and tender! One of our favorites! - shrimp ball w/ salted egg yolk $10- one of my favorite things we ate! The salted egg yolk added a burst of flavor - handmade noodles $5 - perfectly chewy and fresh noodles assuming you don't overcook it! Pretty large portion - mushroom platter $17- a huge bowl of fresh mushrooms that absorbed the yummy soup broth! Highly recommend! When we got the check we noticed we were charged for the sauce bar even though we didn't use it - they changed it immediately, but do check your receipt just in case. Overall a great dining experience, the ingredients are fresh and the broth (especially tomato and their spicy broth) are super flavorful! The price is a bit steep as we paid $77 including tax and tip per person. Would I be back? If you are coming to szechuan style hot pot to get oodles of meat and things to dip in a spicy broth, this place definitely accomplishes that goal. It does suffer from many of the same issues that I have with this stype of eating in general, the broth is kind of bland aside from the spice which is much more noticeable in their bare bone broth. They give you an apron which is nice and the sauce bar comes with most things you could want and a few things that aren't universal like grass jelly and delightful little muscadine grapes. Ordering is handled via ipad which is convenient and I do think it is a stronger than average option in the genre, I just don't think super highly of this style hotpot unless they have a broth that is particularly tasty on its own. read more

another famous hot pot chain from China has arrived stateside. it's located in the new tangram shopping center. we came here around early dinner hours on a friday night with my family and there seems to be a wait already. we added ourselves to the list, looked over the menu, and were seated 10-15 minutes later. the restaurant decor is nice and it smells amazing as soon as we stepped in, but we couldn't stop sneezing after that lol. it's the peppercorns i tell you! the server came over to took our broth order first (tomato, fungi, and mild on the spicy broth) while we deliberate on the rest of the ingredients. to order, just tick the boxes on the menu. we prefer this method because it's easy to see all the options at once. in the end, we got about 12 items total between 3 adults and a kid. after ordering, we were off to make our own sauces. FYI, they do charge $2 per person for sauce. however, aside from sauces, they offer some apps (tripe in chili oil, edamame, crueller), fruits (cantaloupes, watermelon, cherry tomatoes), and desserts (red bean and purple sticky rice congee, jelly or bingfen) at the sauce station. so in the end, the charge didn't seem so unreasonable considering you're getting so much more. pros: -tomato broth: very tasty, pairs well with everything! -spicy broth: super fragrant with lots of beef tallow had more depth than just spiciness alone. i like spicy foods and got it mild, but it was still pretty spicy for my palette. -handmade noodles: nice and chewy, soaks up the flavor from the broth really well -attentive service: servers were quick to clear empty plates and refill broths cons: -limited protein options, no sliced pork of any kind -fatty beef was VERY fatty. could be a one-off situation because it did seemed like others had somewhat leaner beef. -shrimp dumplings: had lots of fillers and not as much shrimp. looks more manufactured than handmade by the restaurant. we felt like the food was ok, but service and pricing seems fair. i do think it will get more and more packed as time goes on. definitely wouldn't mind returning when the hot pot craving hits! read more

You cannot make a reservation online and must put down your name and phone# at the door to be added to the waitlist. We came here on a Sunday night around 6pm and waited over an hour to be seated. Needless to say, we were starving by the time we sat down. Their service was really good and the hostess even brought us some fruit cups and crackers as we waited. We ordered three different soup bases: pork bone, classic spicy, and tomato. The spicy pot was a bit too spicy for some people in my party even though we ordered the mild. If you are not from Szechuan nor have lived there for many years, I would suggest you stick with mild because their spicy pepper flavors are no joke! All of their meats and veggies taste fresh and the soup bases are full of flavor. We ordered mostly basic ingredients, nothing too fancy, and our total bill for party of 5 came out to be around $200 which seemed reasonable. Food: 5/5 - This spot is likely a more premium spot in terms of pricing compared to other hot pot spots out there but the food felt very well worth it. All beef selections had decent marbling and is a must get for hot pot. We ended up choosing the house special broth and the mushroom broth. The house special broth was a bit too much for me to have constantly and the mushroom broth balanced it out very well. Even as someone who does not eat their greens much, the vegetables would be transformed into an enjoyable experience upon being bathed in the incredible broths. For the sauce and side bars, I was pleased with the standard selections and created my usual mixture comprised of BBQ sauce, coriander, garlic, and Chili oil. The grass jelly was also a nice finisher to the end of the meal. Experience: 5/5 - The decor and lighting was very welcoming and created an environment that would make one think of as traditional Chinese vibes. We've been to this hotpot place since they opened. The food is good and the service during our first visit was amazing. This 2-star review is based on my last experience which was outrageous. We went on a Friday night with a party of 13 to celebrate my dad's birthday. Our party includes 2, 7,10,12, and 16yr old, and 8 adults. We tried calling for a reservation several times throughout the day and were told no reservations are taken that day but to show up around 5 pm since there will be fewer people. We showed up at 5 pm and waited 45mins before we were seated at our table. They gave us a table that can comfortably sit 6 adults. Mind you that you do need arm room for hot pot and that's not including the food you order so table room should be considered. We asked if we can have 2 tables and were told no cause it was booked for 7 pm. This information was given to us by Ray, the manager. Ray gave us 3 options: A- sit separately at a few small tables scattered throughout the restaurant. B- finish our meal in 1.5hrs before the next reservation shows up if we want 2 tables C- stay where we were. It's just absolutely absurd that he thought a party of 13 can sit on a table of 6. These are square tables with 4 bench seats. We asked why they didn't prepare properly after having us wait 45mins that these were our options. His best response was that we have kids so we don't need a huge table. Our kids are eating and require seating no matter the age. We attempted to sit down to show him that this is not going to work yet 2 of us still can't squeeze in. There was no consideration, no organization, and no common sense made on his part, and he's the manager. We wish we were told in advance that this was going to happen and not waste 45mins of our time waiting. And the worst part is that somehow in his rightful mind to think that it ok for such a huge party to squeeze in such a small table. Like who can seriously eat hotpot squeezed onto a bench. This was my first hot pot experience, and i LOVED IT! Not sure if all hot pot spots have a toppings bar with all types of finishes, but this one did and i loved the variety of fresh herbs and sauces. The broths were bold with flavor and we got the yellow pepper broth with a heightened spice level...WOW! We kept it light with marinated beef and sliced pork, and both were very flavorful. Once you accept that, put your jackets and stuff into the bins and enjoy your food. Know your spice level, don't try to act cool when you're not. The staff will recommend the level of spice for you.
