If you own a Mini Cooper, this is the place to take it. I own a 2005 Mini Cooper S and over the years I've had it serviced all over Southeastern Michigan. Shores Car Care is the best. I just had a leaky water pump replaced, a supercharger maintenance and other major repairs that were complex and required parts sent from Europe, etc. Folks at Shores Car Care know their business and they are relentless about making sure the job is done right the first time. They did a ton of test drives to make sure everything was done correctly and there were no leaks, etc. I really appreciated this because when I had the car serviced at another place last year, I had to take it back twice to have obvious oversights fixed properly. read more

I want to start by saying that they are very nice and polite here at this shop. The follow up is good as well, but I was almost swindled. I took my 2017 Chrysler Pacifica in because it started shaking and my engine light had been on for a while. I was expecting the worst. (Keep in mind I've been here once before). I was told that it would take at least $700 to take a close look at my engine, so I was fine with that. Then I was told that I needed a new engine. They quoted me $13,000 for a new engine and he said a used one would only save me $350 and those were "Chrysler prices". I called Chrysler (and never told them) and they said first of all a used engine would cost half the price of a new one. Then he said just because there's a crack somewhere in the engine doesn't mean you need a new engine and he laughed (at that point I was feeling absolutely mislead). They told me they fix those issues all the time at the dealership. I never told them that I spoke to the services dept. at the Chrysler dealership, so he told me to call back and get more details. The guy at Shores Car Care said we know there's a crack somewhere because there's a leak into the cylinder, so we recommend a new engine. He said it would cost me another $2,000 to get all the way down to the engine to know specifically what it is and there's no need to rack up more money. My husband called because he said it would cost me $700 to find out what was going on and essentially they didn't get past the spark plugs to know, so why would you charge that much? He told my husband $500, then when I went up there to get my car and take it to the dealership he charged me $467. How do you go from $700 to $467?....wrong! I took it to Chrysler and they fixed a cracked head and it costs me much less than a new engine. It's the dishonesty and overcharging for me. I can't help but think that I was overcharged the first time I went there. I paid over $1100 to fix my first issue. Overall, I would not recommend anyone take their car here to be serviced. I've never done a bad review for anyone, but I felt totally taken advantage of and just plainly lied to. I also lost over $400 because I wanted to add that into my car getting fixed there, but they didn't give me any other recommendation but to get another engine. I don't appreciate dishonesty and don't see how you can be okay with taking advantage of anyone. read more

My car was making some noise, figured it needed a new muffler, my wife had used Shores Car Care several years ago and seemed to recall having a good experience so we took it in. They told me it did need a new muffler, and found another $1200 worth of work they said also needed to be done (funny how that always happens). It is a pretty old car (2005) and what they suggested seemed reasonable so I agreed to let them go forward, total estimate for everything about $2,200. When I went to pick up the car, the check engine light was on. It was not on when I took the car in. They rolled it back into the shop and after about 30 minutes said they couldn't figure out what the issue was and asked if they could hang onto the car to try to figure it out, no charge. Two days later, they called and said they still couldn't figure it out and we should come get the car, so basically it's rolling out with the check engine light on and no explanation why. There were also the following issues: - 2 items on the estimate that we said to go ahead and do were not done - There was an item on the bill that we did NOT give permission to do - The interior of the car smelled like gasoline. All in all an extremely disappointing experience. My check engine light is still on, guess I'll have to take it somewhere else since these guys couldn't figure it out. I paid them over $2,000 for them to give me back a car that smells like gas with a warning light still on and no explanation, completely unacceptable. read more

So I really thought I had found a mechanic I could trust what a joke. Every time I have gone it has never been less than 1,000.00. For a single mom that only makes that a week is hurtful. Keep getting recommendations to fix things I have replaced within the last 3 years or less. How can something last 10 years or more like shocks and struts but your telling me that the ones I replaced them with only lasted 2 years. I must have sucker written on my forehead because they love to see me coming. Will not be back the trust is lost and gone. I took my F150 in for a Used car evaluation and had Shores do the repairs after I bought it. Seems every time I came in to get something done I was given a quote and then they called back after I dropped it off and said it was going to be more. I paid over $500 to get the transmission fluid changed but then it developed a leak. Turns out it was the housing on the electrical harness which wasn't their fault but they told me they couldn't get the part because it was over 10 years old. Never received a call on how they could help me even though they said they could see what they could do. I ended up taking the truck to a regular transmission shop where they replaced the fluid again and replaced the housing on the electrical harness for only $182. BEWARE!!!!! DO NOT GO TO SHORES CAR CARE on Harper!!! Shores car care=Shister, rip-off, liars, thieves!! Beware!!! We took our daughters car there because it was misfiring. Had it for 3 days before even looking at it. Charged $130 to check it out. Told us it would be $1500 for a PCM power control module, the guy supposedly has a degree in electrical engineering. We said no thanks we did not want to put that much money into this car. Shores car care then offered to wave the initial $130 fee if we wanted to "sign the car over". Rob ordered a computer module from Amazon for $120 installed it himself, we then had to pay$100 for a guy to come to our house to since the keys with the computer--STILL did not fix the problem--Turns out all we needed was $40 plug wires, spark plugs. The problem was it just needed a tune up. Running great!! These mechanics are what gives car repair shops a bad name! read more

For a few years now I have been taking my car to Shores Car Care for oil changes. This last visit has made it so I will never return. I was told that I needed a serpentine belt replacement and my engine air filter changed. These both would total $183.00. I told them I did not want these services at this time. I find their up-charge on their filters to be absurd ($35 for the same one you can get on amazon for $13.They claim their price doesn't include installation fees.) I then heard the mechanic in the back making fun of me, saying in a high pitched voice "why does my car smell?" and everyone laughing. I was already frustrated that I was being made fun of. I made them aware of this. To add insult to injury, this week I took my car to the dealership to have my serpentine belt changed. They informed me that it was in perfect working condition and did not need to be changed. I'm sure that fact that I'm a woman made them they think could easily take advantage of me. I will never return and I will be sure to tell others of my experience. Do not let their friendly attitudes at the counter fool you. We took our car here this morning and they had the wheels off. Some idiot must have put them back with an impact wrench because we can only get one of them off now even though we're using a 650 ft-lb impact wrench. They're lucky the bolts didn't sheer off causing us to lose a wheel on the drive home. I would never return here for any reason because they're clearly negligent and incompetent. read more

THEY WILL BLATANTLY ROB YOU!! On October 10, 2013, I had my 2001 Jeep Wrangler towed to this shop because when I turned the ignition, the vehicle did not respond at all. It had power but nothing happened when I turned the ignition. I received a phone call from Joe later that day and he informed me that he was going to have to do a diagnostic at a cost of $109 to figure out what was wrong. The following day Joe called me and told me that my vehicle had a faulty clutch switch and my starter was shot. He told me the repairs would cost $735. The breakdown of the cost was $170 for the clutch switch, $230 for the starter, $109 for the diagnostic and that would leave $226 in labor. I was shocked at the total amount and I told Joe that I would call him back and to hold off on doing any work. I then called O'Reilly's and got quotes on the parts. I was quoted $140 for the starter and $70 for the clutch switch. When I realized I was being overcharged by $190 for the parts alone, I instructed Joe that I would be picking up my vehicle and I would do it myself. Joe called me back and offered a 10 % discount off the total, which was still robbery, especially in light of what I found when I did the work. Making a long story short, I bought the starter for $140, installed it and the vehicle started right up. The clutch switch worked as it is supposed to and nothing was wrong with it! After completion of the work, I found that replacing the starter consisted of removing two bolts, a wire nut and switch. For a mechanic, this would have been as easy as the average person replacing a light bulb. Even if they ACTUALLY DID replace the clutch switch, that is nothing more than a switch, taking a mechanic no more than five minutes. So in essence, I was quoted a price of $735 to replace a starter read more
