I'm moving from Simi Valley and I wish there was a mechanic here in San Fran that I could trust as well as I do Mike. He is honest (sometimes too honest: "You need to get rid of this money trap ASAP.") and I know he is not out to rip me off. The only thing is, I never get called. I always have to call them, I assume because my car isn't fun to work on. But I would trade that any day for any other mechanic, most of whom see me as a pair of boobs and a checkbook. One day I was at the shop with my 18 month old daughter, and Shannon took us home and picked us up when my car was done a few hours later. They're honest with what needs to be done with my car, the prices are fair, and they don't try to sell me on unnecessary repairs. Beware, if you care! These people were very nice. My experience speaking with them was positive. However they are identified as the engine installer of choice by Jasper engines. This is an engine remanufacturer of some notable reputation. WWW.jasperengines.com . My need is for a 2006 5.4 3V Triton engine. The people at Shortee's will only install an engine from Galpin Ford. Galpin Ford does not supply remanufactured engines. This is an issue as the Ford Triton is one of the best engines ever designed but it , like many things, has weak points. Galpin purchases engines from a company that buys surplus manufacturing. More engines than used in production. The engine recommended for my job would have been 10 years in storage. Fine by not with any engineering corrections. As long as Shortee's provides a warranty for the "soft" parts ok...go for it. Fuel injectors, break in oils and grease all deteriorate with disuse over time. It is a huge problem for military.Other than that fine. I just pass on 10,000 dollar job. read more

I was getting ready to do a road trip from So. Cal to northern Washington state in my 2009 Z71 Silverado, I was having an annoying noise in the front end when I reached 45 mph. I took it to Shortee's to have them do an inspection and repair of anything that may be wrong with the truck. After inspection we found that one of the front axle boots was torn and leaking out grease, along with a bad wheel bearing. Thinking this was the problem that I was hearing in the front end, repairs were done and i was on my way. Unfortunately the sound was still there and Mike requested I bring it back, So I did and Mike started extensive trouble shooting, from removing axles, swapping out bearings, checking the transfer case, transmission and more on his dime. A couple of days before I was to leave Mike called me and said I found the problem, he ordered a new drive shaft with a CV joint, installed it the night before my trip and my truck was running smooth as silk. Mike went the extra mile to get my truck back on the road and also gave me a secure peace of mind all the up into northern Washington and back home to So. Cal. Simi Ford said that both batteries and the alternator had gon bad in my Diesel and the repair cost was gonna be $900+. I said now way and had them give me a jump and drove it strait over to shortees. In less than 24hrs and under $200 i was back on the road. Great Local Auto Repair shop. Honest Honest Honest!! I was in palm springs and the suv was overheating. Managed to nurse it home and brought it in to Shortees. Not only did they handle the problem they shopped for the part and saved me an addtional $300 by finding it at a lower priced vendor. I am in my '60's and we have been going to Shortees since shortly after they opened when Mike and Jeff were partners. I know of no other shop in Simi who I trust more than Shortees. More than once I have gone to Mike asking him for his diagnosis, once, for example, on my '04 Corvette, when he told me that the problem had a recall several years back. He suggested that I go back to the dealer, as they MIGHT stand behind the "past due" re-call, and in fact YES, they did! This repair would have cost me over $1,800! This is just ONE example of how Mike takes care of his customers. I have referred several friends, and they have saved big time by working with Mike instead of the dealer. Honesty and integrity.... This company operates the way we do. I have been in business over 40-yrs and thought we were one of the last family business that puts the customer ahead of the bottom line. I was wrong. Shortee's is better than us. They are fabulous. I brought two of our vehicles in with my assumption of what was wrong and what needed to be done. Both times I missed it. They fixed the problems and the vehicles are running like they were new. Their prices are to low. I feel guilty paying them for so much work. They don't realize how good they are. Absolutely horrible! Everyone thinks Mike is an honest and great mechanic, he is not! Mike is nothing but a jackass who is not responsible or accountable. We took our Jeep there for some emission work due to his "good reputation". Well, the Jeep ran for two weeks after his "repairs". It was driving awfully strange afterwards, but we did not think to question Shortees. Our Jeep has been out of commission for 9 months since with a blown head. When we tried to go back and approach Mike, we mentioned our Jeep to the secretary. She talked to him "while on his lunch" and said, "He is having lunch. You can tell me your question and I will ask him." The jackass refused to come out and approach us, the customer, because he knows he was wrong and ruined our perfectly beautiful vehicle. He won't stand up for his work and he doesn't know how to treat a customer. In all honesty, I do not recommend for anyone to visit this shop. I do highly recommend Cars Etc. run by Ernie in Thousand Oaks or Mark's Auto Repair in Canoga Park. They are honest, fair, and they know how to treat a customer. read more

He was able to fix in a matter of hours a problem that had plagued my car for months that another mechanic could not figure out. Mike is a awesome mechanic, I took him my truck about 1 year ago. It was a older 7.3 Ford diesel with a strange misfire problem. I am a service manager of a automotive import repair shop, but we are not equipped to work on these trucks. He struggled with diagnosing it just like I did before I brought it to him. He was very thorough with his diagnosis, kept me in the loop, and charged me fairly for the amount of work he did. He did not shotgun the problem like a lot of other shops would have.
