Best tri tip sandwich ever. And I should know because I eat tri tip sandwiches everywhere.

We cannot say enough good things about this place and the family that runs it. We stopped by this year on our way to Yosemite and almost cried because it looked like they were closing their doors. Happily, they're expanding to the bowling alley! We got out and chatted with them and wouldn't you have it, they didn't want us to have our yearly trip to Yosemite without their food and sent us off with some tritip and sauce in the middle of moving. These are truly good people running a great restaurant with awesome food cooked with love. This business should be celebrated as a shining gem of Tracy. Raise these people up so more patrons can enjoy their food and service. I hope to see this family for many more years to come. read more

These stars are for the food and very friendly staff.We LOVE their bbq (any type) and their sides are always delicious.I love ordering the rib combo plate.The servings sizes are very gracious and since its so good it's very much appreciated! Shorter's is a mom & pop's type of BBQ place. The best soul food you can find in Tracy. The interior of the restaurant is very casual, but the owners are amazing. Such a friendly staff, and the prices are great. They have a $6 student special which is awesome including a tri-tip sandwich, fries, and a drink. Great place. read more

Quite possibly the best barbecue in the Bay Area. Don't be fooled by the location or appearance. Shorter's is amazing. The barbecue sauce had just the perfect mixture of flavor and spice. I ate here for the first time yesterday (Feb 13) and it really impressed me. They have 3 bbq sauce options relating to heat. I had mild and cyan pepper and the cyan was amazing. Their spicy bbq spaghetti was ridiculously good as well. To top it all off I got their banana pudding which had actual banana and vanilla wafers in it to make a great meal even better. A hole in the wall that you want to tell the whole world about:) A tight knit spot that offers very friendly service on top of yummy finger lickin' food. I ordered some party trays for my daughters 1st bday party and their trays are worth every dollar. The trays we got served more than they said it served and that's no complaint. I ordered pull pork, BBQ ribs, potato salad, and Mac n cheese... I got nothing but good feedback from all my guests on all items. I had guests that stayed overnight who wanted to go back and eat there on Sunday but were bummed they were closed. My only tip is to make sure to put your orders in early, for they seem pretty busy. read more

Southern roots run deep in my DNA and my daughter and I wanted to pick up some grub yesterday to bring home to daddy. We found Shorter's BBQ & Catering and immediately when we walked in I thought of Mississippi!!! This down home feel restaurant is filled with wonderful smells of soul food and southern style BBQ! As I looked at the menu I wanted to order everything and the prices are economical! We ordered to go and on our way home the aroma of the food in the car was calling out to me! I wanted to pull over and start eating the catfish dinner with macaroni & cheese in the car! When we arrived home to eat we all wanted to dive into our food that I did not take any pictures of the food! I want to tell you that the dinner tasted absolutely like it was made from home. Now I know why Shorter's BBQ & Catering has several customers because of their marvelous smell of being down home and the friendly staff and the great tasting food! My wife and I had been looking for some good bbq all day and the reviews led us here. I guess everyone thet reviewed this place had no clue what good bbq is, because this was not it. The service is horrible and the food is worse! If you want over smoked couple day old bbq than this is the place for you. The tri-tip was dry and tough and the ribs were old, reheated, and tasted like lighter fluid and smoke. The side were small but that was ok because we were not eating them either. Talk about a great bbq place!! They not only do an excellent job with their tri-tip, ribs, bbq spaghetti, baked beans and potato salad but their catfish is to die for!! I should also add that they make their own bbq sauce and sell it by the bottle. It is soooooo good. It's a classic flavor with a hint of sweetness in it. I've been there a few times now and have had a few birthday parties catered as well. I have to admit though, this place can be a bit pricey when it comes to catering, which is why I'm not giving it 5 stars. I'd like to also add that the staff is super friendly as well. I just tried Shorter's for the first time because we had bought some half-priced gift certificates from a local radio station. I am so glad they participated in that promotion because I would have never tried it on my own and it was great! The family is so warm and welcoming that they really make you feel taken care of. The portions were good sized and the prices were reasonable. I had a pulled pork sandwich which had tons of meat covered with their house BBQ sauce. Was meandering around the valley towns I used to call on 30+ years ago and it was lunch time so looked on the Garmin saw barbecue and that we were close to Shorters. We walked in a saw they did not spend their $ on ambience, or maybe for a BBQ place it was superior ambience. Anyway the place was pretty full we soon learned the whole fam damily was there. Grandma introduced us to everyone and we learned all about where they lived etc. Super people, all! Oh the food review. Wife had pulled pork and I had the rib lunch. She loved the HUGE serving of pulled pork, my ribs were probably the meatiest ribs I have ever eaten. And like a previous reviewer said the coleslaw was good. I've had their food twice; the second time at a festival was so much better. The ribs were tender and juicy and captured the smoky essence perfectly. The first time it wasn't quite as tender (we had pieces that were chewy) and they didn't have everything on the menu. I was sad hey ran out of corn bread :( I suggest ordering in advance and the ribs are definitely the best compared to the chicken and pork. read more
