Corned beef hash, scrambled eggs, grits, and biscuit. Strong coffee. Yum Great breakfast.

I had the corned beef hash with scrambled eggs. I like eggs well-cooked not runny. They were cooked exactly how I like them. Thank you! The biscuit was fluffy and tasted homemade. Yum. Grits were light and smooth. Delicious. Thank you Nicole for wonderful service and strong coffee.

Tasty, classic American breakfast delights. They were doing a brisk business when we arrived on a weekday morning, but we were still seated right away. I ordered the sausage gravy, which comes with two eggs and a side (I chose home fries). We also ordered steak and eggs, pancakes, and fried catfish. The sausage gravy checked all of the boxes. It was supported by a biscuit (that unfortunately was a bit soggy) and some tasty over easy eggs. All of the other dishes looked quite good as well. If I returned, I think I would try the catfish, since that looked cool and unique. But, if I was feeling peckish, I'd probably go for the steak and eggs, since it comes with a lot of sides! When in Williamsburg, follow the crowd (and your nose!) to Smokey Griddle Pancake House.

If you prefer a quiet breakfast, then go to The Smokey Griddle Pancake House. This restaurant was full of regulars who were commenting on the local goings-on in the area. The food, coffee, and sweet tea were all good. I appreciated that the tables had creamer on them and not just half-and-half. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxed. No one was rushing us out. It was very much an 'order your food and be left alone' kind of place, which we do prefer. If I drank my coffee faster, then I would have needed to flag someone down for a refill, but the one check in was timed nicely with my finishing my first cup. We got: The Smokey Combo (eggs, pancakes, and bacon) and the French Toast Melt special (bacon, egg and cheese sandwich with French toast as the bread). We also got coffee and sweet tea.

We brought along two toddlers so it could've gone either way from the start. Our waiter was fast, courteous and checked back with us several times. It didn't look like too much from the outside, but the inside was clean and spacious. I selected the Greek Omelette ~ made perfectly and the potatoes were fantastic, cooked perfectly. My daughter selected the eggs Benedict and enjoyed every bite. My two granddaughters shared the silver dollar pancakes & a side of bacon. Those picky little eaters enjoyed every last bite, no syrup needed. Thank you for an enjoyable family breakfast.

Ketchup has high fructose corn syrup, etc.

They don't offer real maple syrup! Food was not very good. They increased their prices by $2 per plate/entree. Their website isn't updated/correct. The place was pretty empty on a Thursday at 11am BUT the food took extremely long, about 25 minutes!! Server, Herson, was a pretty good server and it wasn't his fault our food took forever. We ordered the banana pancakes and 2 eggs which came to $16, very pricey and also ordered a fried catfish plate $12, which wasn't very good at all and pretty tasteless. The batter was too thick and kind of hard actually. This was our first AND LAST time here.

Visiting from out of town and we were searching for a good breakfast spot. The Smokey Griddle Pancake House stood out amongst all the other breakfast places in the area. So glad we chose this place. Reasonably priced food that turned out to be good. Loved the Mexican twists on some of the items. We will be back if in the area again.

The kids macaroni and the kids Ao Burger was very flavorful. Boyfriend had the Ao burger and he stated it was delicious. I would highly recommend! I believe the server we had was Jazmine, she was very nice and was extremely knowledgeable about the menu, the vibes and was on top of drinks and made our first experience there a great one! However, I would not recommend the brownie and chocolate sundae dessert. The brownie and cookie were cold and hard, which made the dessert disappointing. On the positive side, the carrot cake was huge and definitely worth sharing -- easily enough for 3-4 people. The service was excellent as well. Our waiter was very attentive throughout the meal and made sure everything was taken care of. Overall, Second Street American delivers great food variety, strong service, and a family-friendly atmosphere, with just a few misses on dessert.

We have not not dined, or even spent much time at CW since the pandemic. After a hike behind Bassett Hall my wife and I enjoyed lunch. We arrived at noon and were promptly seated in an empty room. Around 20 minutes later the first floor was full. The atmosphere was cool and authentic. Nothing has changed since my previous visit. Our friendly waitress got menus and waters. I started off with an Apple Jack Old Fashioned utilizing Virginia Gentleman bourbon. We reviewed items on the menu that may have been served in the period. We started with apps. I got a salad, or "To Make a Fine Sallet". My wife crab croquettes. They pushed out first and we enjoyed. For mains. I got the pork shank, or "To Stew a Shoat in the French Way". My wife had "Chicken Hash", it was like a thick soup. The plating was beautiful and the taste matched. The old fashioned was disappointing because it was so weak. Service was decent, but not much attention. For dessert I got the bread pudding and wife chocolate tart. Both were outstanding! The bill was dropped on the table. It was around $150 w/ tip. Although pricey we had fun and felt like tourist just an hour from home. I would recommend.

There tends to be a line to get in if you don't have a reservation, but we were seated soon after we got in line around 1:45pm. Their menu is sourced from recipes from the colonial era and the staff are all dressed in the latest colonial fashion. I ordered the fish sandwich which I thought was too salty (perhaps this is period accurate) but my family really liked it. I liked the chips it was served with! I also tried the peanut soup which tasted like drinking peanut butter and I'm not sure if that's for me, but my brother loved it. I had a bit of the beef hash which was pretty tasty! I also had the chocolate tart which was very chocolatey. For a drink we had the non alcoholic orange ginger peach bowl, which served our family of 5 just fine for $16. There was entertainment during our meal, a woman came around and sang a colonial song before taking out a recorder and playing a dancing song. This was fun! Our waitress rubbed us the wrong way. She repeated our order several times to us because she was not writing it down. I was not confident we would get the right food. When we tried to add other things she made us wait since she was busy committing everything to memory. She seemed annoyed when we put in other orders for food, but she did bring us an extra peanut soup "in case" we wanted another one, since we had put in an order for a soup after we initially ordered. She did not really seem keen on serving us. The service was slow, too. At the end of the meal, she put something of ours on another table's check, then took our check back to add what she missed. There was also a bowl of soup on our check that we did not order and the card was charged twice, plus another $18 charge. Not sure what ye olde POS system they're using back there...

We weren't sure where the restaurant was located within the building so we stopped to ask where the Terrace a room was at a hostess stand where three women were working. They all stared at us like we had dropped from the sky and then one woman gestured down the hall. Except it wasn't down the hall. We were in fact at the Terrace Room hostess stand. Sort of an odd beginning. We were seated at a two top with one chair and a couch with huge pillows scattered all over that left no room to actually sit. Had to toss them to the center of the couch to squeeze in. The menus are giant in size so it's hard to lay them down on the small table. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. We started off with a bourbon cocktail that included some candied ginger and was very refreshing. The server gave us each a small cube of bread and some butter. It was sort of comical how miserly they were with the bread. The menu offerings were sort of odd but we were able to watch what other tables ordered to make our selections. The entree prices are pretty hefty. We each got a Caesar Salad to start that was good. We both settled on the brisket sandwich (a July Fourth special) and one of us got the fries and the other a side of summer veggies that was squash & zucchini. The sandwich was okay but nothing grand for $21 and the veggie side caused us to both explode with laughter at how meager it was. C'mon folks, squash is dirt cheap so load it up. Absolutely ridiculous. Their wine selections were not super familiar to us and pricey but they give you an ample pour. The Inn itself is very beautiful and the night stars shimmering on the reflecting pool out front is very romantic. I'd recommend a drink at the bar and skipping the $200 dinner for two.
