The perfect small town country diner! Left DC at 4am headed to OBX and found Shortys on Yelp, immediately received the warmest welcome from Liz upon walking in, and knew we were in the right place. We ordered omelettes, I got up to wash my hands, and when I got back Liz was bringing them out already! I kid you not, it couldn't have been more than 6 minutes (living in DC, even a food truck doesn't serve you that quickly). Shorty's Diner has become a tradition in my family. We've been to Shorty's probably a dozen times and each time is as special as the last. The owner is there pretty much every time I've been and he's a great guy. The food is amazing. Simply put, I've never had better pancakes anywhere ever in my life. Shorty's pancakes are enormous, fluffy, and have the best taste ever. I also really love The Hangover, which is biscuits and gravy with corned beef hash. Their corned beef hash is also the best I've had. Steak and eggs is good too and the grits are also delicious. Like I said, everything is good and there's something for everyone. The service is wonderful as well. The waitresses go above and beyond. They're friendly but not overbearing and they're good about refilling your coffee quickly. So glad we happened upon Shorty's early in my freshman year at W&M and I can't wait to go back when I visit next. read more

Stopped in here for lunch today. My mom and I are down here for the week on vacation from Massachusetts & my one rule when I go on vacation is to eat at places I can't eat at back home. I went on yelp and found this place. It was hopping which is always a good sign. The decor inside really took us back- loved it! We both got the monte cristo sandwich and I had the hand cut fries ( which were amazing) and mom got the potato salad. The strawberry mayo was a nice touch and was probably the best monte cristo I've ever had. Our sever (Tiffany) was attentive and friendly. The food came out pretty fast and was so good. We will definitely be back if we are ever in the area again. Mom gave it 2 thumbs up and we highly recommend. read more

We arrived around 11:00 as we tend to do, a bit later than we plan, but usually after the breakfast rush. However, for a Monday this place was busy, which I took as a great sign. We were greeted right away and sat immediately. Hannah was our server and provide friendly and professional service. She seemed able to handle multiple tables with easy, while still not making us feel neglected. I ordered the sampler, minus the pancake as I wasn't feeling pancakes. My wife ordered a regular breakfast with English muffins. The homefries are amazing and cooked to perfection, I love the sausage used with their patties, and the bacon is perfect, not too saggy or crunchy. I didn't get their pancakes but regret it usually when I notice someone else order them, they look amazing. I wasn't a huge fan of the coffee, which was slightly watered down. Overall, this continues to be our go-to for Williamsburg breakfast. It definitely stands out as a place to get friendly service despite being busy, with a diner feel, diner prices, and diner quality food. This place was PACKED for it being the Fourth of July it's understandable but I have a feeling it's like this on the regular. The staff was attentive and we were seated relatively quickly. I ordered the veggie omelette with egg whites and my husband got the club sandwich. There was a lot of cheese in the omelette, I wish it would of had less, however it was still good. The home fries were also good and reminded me of the ones my grandfather used to make. My husband said he enjoyed his sandwich. The food is also a good price, our total was only $21 before tip. We found this little place while traveling to the beach. It definitely has the 50's style diner look and feel. We had a large group (eight) and even thought they were busy, we were sat right away. Our server, Liz, did an amazing job. She was friendly, personable and knowledgeable about the menu. My wife and I split a steak and eggs breakfast. I also got a side order of fried catfish to try. The steak and eggs were very good, but the catfish was amazing! It was light and flakey with just the right amount of breading on the outside. They kitchen did an amazing job as well. This is a real diner. The food is really good and the Staff goes out of their way to make you happy. We visited Shorty's on a Sunday morning when we were departing Williamsburg around 10am. Although the restaurant was very busy, we did not have to wait. The service was quick and the requests we made regarding our food were delivered perfectly. This is not a fancy restaurant, but is a real diner with owners and employees who seem to take pride in providing good food and service to their patrons. I had ordered food to be picked up. Quality of food was good. I was absolutely disappointed in whoever packed my order. I ordered 4 breakfast platter items. I received 2 utensil packets. I ordered 2 pancake items. I was not given any pancake syrup. One item was a burger with fries. No ketchup was supplied either. No butter for the toast. Somehow I ended up with 4 half & half but I did not order any coffee. Without the pancake syrup, whipped cream, ketchup, butter, or even enough utensils and everything else required to enjoy our meal, it ended up being one of the most disappointing meals ever. read more
