Really cool spot, we were from out of the state, So I think this restaurant has a lot to offer for out-of-towners. You can tell upon entrance that they have a lot of regulars, and people know you there by name. The food and the portions were really big. Listen, don't go here expecting an Maculate, table or floor- you can tell It's been around forever, probably not the cleanest, but the food is gonna be good. It also didn't break the bank for a family of 5, which I'm appreciative of. enjoy The décor that was pretty interesting as well.

Went here on a weekday morning for breakfast and it was crowded! We did not have to wait and they sat us right away. We ordered off the kids menu as well as the regular breakfast menu. The food was delicious and it came quickly. I ordered the breakfast sandwich and it did not disappoint. They came around regularly for coffee and beverage refills. The décor was so cool. They had a retro dinner feel with Hess cars as décor. You do not want to miss Shortys when you are in town!

Food came quickly for us. This is where the locals hang out. I enjoyed the special of three eggs cooked medium, Virginia ham, grits, and the best biscuit. Hubby got a ham and cheese omelette. Happy and full. Glad we're locals!

    My receipt

The egg sandwich I got was very good. However, I did not get my complete order. I did not get the fruit cup, the 2nd order of grits, or the bread to go with it. I think this is due to the way the ordering system is designed. I would have been happy to pay for the extras.

Love this place for lunch or breakfast. This is my 2nd time here. Service is stellar. Ambiance is cafe.

It's been a while since we had eaten here and everything was still great from food, to service to the decor! This time around I tried the grilled cheese and it was yummy! The only thing is that the bathroom was a little unkept and I feel like the whole place could use a good scrub down.

    Fish sandwich with fries

I came here for lunch after seeing it on tv and it exceeded my expectations in every way. I ordered the fried fish sandwich which tasted fresh, well seasoned and delicious! The portions are generous. I requested the fries to be extra crispy and they were so perfect! The server, Jocelyn made our experience worth the five stars and more. She is a friendly, kind and professional. I highly recommend!

Friends took us here for brunch. This is a casual place with good service (by Shaniqua). I ordered the tuna melt, which was delicious. The tuna salad was quite creamy. It was served on Texas toast. My husband had the Cuban sandwich, which was also delicious, although it wasn't served on true Cuban bread but a sub roll. The sides were good too. I'm giving this only 4 stars, as the women's bathroom was pretty nasty.

Solid diner with ambitious menu. The large space has a noticeable retro checkerboard floor and is decorated with vintage type stuff, has a kitchy feel about it. An Elvis Presley statue presides over the main room. The sammies are large and well made. Am impressed by the fried catfish sammie , a real winner. The potato salad and coleslaw are both excellent. The Italian sub comes heated--and that threw me. Never had that done before, prefer it room temp. Portions are generous. Requested a booth (with many available) but seated at a table instead; annoyed me a bit. Overall, good food is found here.

Classic little diner with quick friendly service and delicious homestyle food. Prices are reasonable and food is fresh, I'd recommend it over any chain breakfast spot any day. It's not fancy. It's not fat free. It's just the way it used to be!

My wife and I have been to the Shorty's in Yorktown for lunch and decided to go to the one in Williamsburg for breakfast. It started out ok, Angie greeted us and asked for our drink order (2 unsweetened tea). When she came back, she asked if we were ready to order. Having never looked over the breakfast menu (big selection), we asked for a few minutes. First mistake. She disappeared for probably 10 minutes and no amount of trying to get someone's attention helped. I believe the hostess looked at us several times and was wondering what was going on. Angie finally shows up, takes our order and rushes off. Food arrives promptly and good, she comes back to fill our teas and takes off to wait on a group of regulars and another table. I take a swig of tea and she had refilled it with sweet. Told the wife before she drank any, because she can't have it. Start looking for Angie to catch her and can't get her attention because she is so engrossed with her regulars. I finally get out of my seat and go to the counter. Meanwhile our food is getting cold, our attitude is getting hot. I tell her in a measured voice, "Excuse me, but when you refilled our teas it was done with sweet tea. We need new ones unsweetened please." She immediately, if not sooner, copped an attitude and didn't apologize, but offered an excuse that she used the proper pitcher (which she didn't, she pointed to the clear one and I remembered seeing the colored one when she poured). But that wasn't the worst of it, it was her attitude and lack of attention to us. When she did bring us new tea, my wife told her thank you and I will be needing more. Angie didn't acknowledge her, but literally rolled her eyes as she walked away. My wife was hot and me too! The guy sitting beside us (one of her regulars) asked what was wrong and when we told him he said she isn't normally like that. I told him I'm glad you like her. Later, she comes back with a glass of tea to top off my wife's tea. No pitcher, a glass of tea with no ice and starts pouring it into my wife's glass. She gets about halfway and stops and stares. We are looking at her like what, you looking for something? She then picks up the glass and states I think I put sweet tea in this. Glass 3 now being brought to the table. We finally got the bill, two unsweetened tea to go and a smile. Paid cash, I didn't want to leave a tip, but the food was good. The service just sucked. Didn't leave my normal 20% on the total, but 10% on the subtotal.

I eat lunch here several times a year, and I ALWAYS GET the half pound burger. Think I'm ready to venture out and try something else. I'm leaning towards the Italian sub or the Philly, but what would be your recommendation?

If you like the Burger, then your next step is the Philly. It's close enough that it sets you up. I love the Philly.

I'm planning to go here with my family this Saturday. But why is there no take home for the kids menu??? My son is two, I highly doubt he'll eat half of the food all in one sitting...

I go there a lot. Just ask your server. I am sure they will pack up anything you want to take hone 😉. Great place!

Wait times was 10-15 minutes, no bad once seated we started w Coffee & Iced tea, it was good. Our server, Tess, was fantastic. My husband was craving a bagel breakfast sandwich (because he is enduring my keto diet) and they were one of the few places offering this. He got cream cheese on the side for the sandwich (if you haven't tried this, I highly recommend it). I ordered the meat omelette with Swiss cheese added and was offered fresh tomato slices in place of the carb options. We were both very full and happy with our meal. 2nd visit before leaving the area. We came earlier, closer to 8 & were seated immediately. I chose the meat omelette again (perfect choice for my keto diet). My husband tried the 2 French Toast, 2 eggs (added cheese) & 2 sausage. We were both very pleased. I felt so guilty not being able to finish it because it was really yummy. Our waitress today was also top notch. She didn't even write down our order, but it came out perfectly executed.

This was a highlight of our Williamsburg trip!…read more I made a reservation about a month out and I'm glad I did. It was so busy when we showed up. They asked us if we wanted to wait for a few minutes at the bar while they prepared our table so we ordered a couple of drinks. As soon as we ordered they came to get us. No big deal, we just paid and took our drinks with us. We were sat toward the front of the restaurant, which gave us the perfect people-watching position. Our server stopped by to greet us and said she'd be back. Waters and bread were delivered and she oriented us to the menu. We made our selections of salmon for my husband and short ribs with a side of squash. Everything was delicious. We were happy with our selections and so full when we left. I appreciate that the short ribs are boneless and tender and had the perfect seasoning. I'd eat that dish again anytime!
