After the job was finished, there was no notification that the job was complete. In fact, several materials and tools were left scattered behind. We then discovered numerous issues and excessive damage caused during the process. This included problems with the subfloor, uneven stain coverage where the old stain shows through, gaps and transition issues, mismatched show moulding, and multiple baseboards that were torn off and not reattached correctly. There was also damage to surrounding walls and trim that occurred during the work. A representative from the company finally came out to review these concerns after numerous contact attempts. Upon reviewing the work in person, RVA flooring acknowledged that portions of the work were done incorrectly. We were assured the issues would be corrected and that someone would follow up to schedule the repairs. Unfortunately, that follow-up never happened. For months, we have made repeated attempts to contact the scheduling team to set a date for the agreed-upon fixes, but our outreach has largely gone unanswered. At this point, we are simply trying to have the workmanship issues and damage addressed as promised. We chose Flooring RVA expecting professional service, quality installation, and accountability. We are still hopeful they will stand behind their work and make this right, and we ask that someone from the company contact us to schedule the necessary repairs.

Because of Darren, we do it every day! Darren refinished a ~30 year old hardwood floor that had yellowed, shown wear from traffic, had missing pieces of wood, and damage from chemical spills. From the very first time I reached out, his communication was excellent. He visited our home to see the floor, take measurements, and recommend and explain a refinishing process. The flooring was able to be put in quickly...there was a little hiccup due to an issue with additional subflooring that needed to be taken up but the additional cost to take it up was reasonable and Stephen communicated that upfront. The trim could not be completed same day due to the subfloor causing the floor depth to change but Stephen offered a temp stop gap solution, ordered new trim, and came back within a week to complete the work. Stephen was very good at communicating, sending me pictures to help me choose what kind of trim I wanted around the reception desk (I was not able to stay on premises). He also sent pictures and messaging as he encountered issues. Other contractors may have just done what they thought best but Stephen consulted with us prior to completing the work. Because I do have some updates to note :) Here is the review from before: Those of us who are new or existing homeowners know how hard renovations can be. Unexpected problems can pop up anywhere and whatever you plan as far as budget goes...well plan again. With that being said, Shady Grove Flooring was like a breath of fresh air during a very stressful time for my family. Aaron, the owner, was very nice and professional and did his very best to work with us and within our budget. He kept us apprised of every step and made the whole process of installing/renewing wood floors seem easy, when I know it is anything but easy. My mother and father flipped houses when I was in middle and high school so I know enough to be dangerous. Despite my eclectic "knowledge" gleaned from my eccentric parents and obsession with all things HGTV, I did have quite a few questions about my floors. Any questions I brought up to Aaron, he was quick to answer, and he did so in a very friendly, non condescending way. As a woman I have had my fair share of condescending contractors- it seems part and parcel of being a woman and being interested in renovations. He and his team used masks and were very safe when they worked for us during the pandemic, which is good. We had some sub flooring issues where the builders cheaped out on the grout for our bathroom floor. The tile cracked and then there was a giant hole to the crawl space where years of standing water literally ate away at the floor. Aaron fixed the subflooring and gave us a great tile guy to come fix the floors in the bathroom. No more hole in our bathroom or our wallets! Yay Aaron! Yay Shady Grove Flooring! Yay us! PS- the pics show the floor BEFORE SGF fixed it. I didn't get a picture of it after because there is tile over it and well my phone isn't an x-ray phone. Take that one up with Apple. Not me.
