    Teppenyaki bowl
    Hui Koon K.

Relaxed, clean, fast service. Food was good, the teppenyaki bowl had decent amount of shrimp and beef. Everything including bok choy was grilled in a light sauce that had a taste of sweetness and balsamic vinegar. Very appetizing. I'll definitely return.

If you haven't already, do yourself a favor and stop in. The entire experience is amazing. I've now been 3 times having discovered it a week ago. (IKR?) I can't wait to try everything on the menu but since everything looks so enticing it's a bit of a challenge making decisions. But fear not, the owner, Temple, who may be the coolest human ever will help you. They keep a couple of games on and serve beer of course. Oh, did I mention there's Pinball machines!?And finally.....you're welcome!

Shrimp vs Chef is one of those places you order from "just to try it" and then suddenly you're in a committed relationship with your delivery bag. I got the shrimp katsu and the shrimp po' boy, took it home, and ate it like it was a personal event. No music, no TV, just me and shrimp making eye contact. The shrimp katsu was ridiculous. Perfectly crispy, still hot by the time I got it on my plate, like it refused to get soggy out of sheer pride. Every bite was like, "Hey, your life might be a mess, but at least this is going right." I'm standing in my kitchen over the counter, half leaning, half praying this isn't the peak of my week. Then the shrimp po' boy... yeah, that thing is not "po'" anything. That sandwich walked into my house with main character energy. Big juicy shrimp overflowing out the sides, sauce everywhere, bread soft but somehow still holding it all together better than I am. It's the kind of sandwich you have to hunch over the sink for because you know you're about to make bad, saucy decisions. I told myself I'd eat half and save the rest for tomorrow. Next thing I know I'm staring at an empty plate like, "Who did this?" For takeout, it was way too good. No restaurant vibes, no plating, just a plastic box on my counter and still some of the best shrimp I've had in a minute. Shrimp vs Chef definitely won. My diet lost. My self-control never even showed up. 11/10, would absolutely destroy again on my couch in sweats.

    Shrimp tacos

BEST shrimp tacos I've ever had !!! I order shrimp tacos everywhere I go, and these are hands-down the best I've ever had! The fried shrimp smells and taste like sesame oil. It's amazing so crispy, but so light and airy and fluffy at the same time. The sauce, pears perfectly with it these tortillas are homemade fresh! And it comes sitting on a bed of homemade chips with a perfect salsa would definitely come back and recommend to everyone I know and I will. The staff is super chill and friendly, laid-back environment place looked super clean as well

We were in the area and looking for highly rated places on Yelp and this came up. Since the family loves shrimp we thought to give it a try and everything we had tasted delicious. The noodles and burrito were my faves! Definitely recommend and the service here is stellar. My only suggestion is they add more salsa to the orders! I love the vibe here too. So chill.

Small business Banger! I've eaten here about 5 times and everything I've ordered has been great. Clean eating is what you will get here.

This spot has such a great vibe and Temple was so welcoming! We ordered a shrimp salad and the ahi poke with rice. The salad was dressed just right, the greens were fresh and crispy and the shrimp was perfectly cooked. The poke bowl was fresh, flavorful and filling. There's a solid selection of sauces to choose from to personalize your flavor. Love all sports decor and there are several TVs. The restaurant has a warmth to it that you just want to stay and enjoy your food. Plenty of parking outside.

Started from the Food Truck and now we HERE. Okay.....so there's still the food truck but now you've got Shrimp on the go AND the opportunity to try Shrimp vs Chef at their brick and mortar store in Thousand Oaks, CA. Been a long time fan of Shrimp vs Chef and the lovely owner Temple since back in the day. Id follow their food truck around town for the infamous Garlic Noodles and good vibes. A little bit of Rock n Roll and badass vibes in the 805 always made me feel right at home. I sampled a few of these classics: Fried Shrimp with Garlic Noodles - a fan favorite, my tried and true menu pick every damn time Fresh Shrimp Ceviche - in this summer heat there is nothing more refreshing then ice cold shrimp ceviche with perfectly salted chips Tuna Poke Bowl - we're on island time with this dish my friend the freshest poke and a massive potion, such a classic tasty dish Temple and his team are friendly, welcoming, and all about creating a good experience. I love their interior, the decor and the menu is extensive with so many delicious options to try. The food here always hits and is some of the best seafood you'll find in the 805. If you're a little bit foodie, a little bit rock n roll, or a little bit punk rock this spot will be a 10/10 in your books.

Delicious seafood and warm hospitality! As a seafood lover, I am always on the lookout for places that do great seafood, especially shrimp. I stumbled upon this little eatery, and I am looking forward to try all the dishes in the menu. Located on Thousand Oaks Boulevard near Rancho Road, this restaurant is located in a strip mall. Parking is ample in front of the restaurant. The menu offerings are simple but diverse. There are burritos, tacos, and Asian noodles with tempura shrimp. There is also a tuna poke and vegetarian offerings of fried avocados in lieu of shrimp. I tried the tuna poke and I would give it 9 out of 10. The serving portion was generous, and the tuna felt fresh. The side portion of warm rice with tuna and avocado felt like a light but substantial meal. On my second visit, I tried the garlic noodle, and I would give it 6.5 out of 10. While I loved the fried shrimp, the noodles was too salty and I needed to wash it with water. The serving size was very generous, and it was enough to last two meals. The cost of entrees were around $16-$25. The ingredients felt fresh, and the entrees were all made to order. As for the service, patrons will order/pay at the counter, and the server will deliver the dishes to your table when ready. There was also a water station on the side. The owners seemed very hands on with the business, and you could definitely tell they have passion in cooking. Overall, a great place for shrimp lovers for comfort food. Highly recommend!

We had an amazing lunch here today. The shrimp tacos were so crispy and delicious. The tri-tip tacos were also amazing. We will be back, the poke bowl will be our next selection.

Truck came to my work today and it was soooo good. Small menu but super fresh. I usually hate fried stuff but this wasn't heavy. Fast service. Prices were high but it was a lot of food and huge shrimp so felt worth it. One of the better food trucks we've had.

    Unbreakable Caesar salad
    Megan G.

I didn't know that Shrimp vs Chef originally started as a food truck, but I'm so happy they've found their brick-and-mortar home in Thousand Oaks! I started with the Unbreakable Caesar salad, which was great. The shrimp is grilled to order, well-seasoned, and perfectly cooked--adding the ideal touch to a classic Caesar. I also had to try the shrimp & pork Al Pastor burrito, and wow, was it a winner! I appreciate that they let me sub out the rice, making the flavors stand out even more. The pork was generously seasoned, the slaw added the perfect crunch, and the bites of pineapple brought just the right amount of sweetness. Every bite was packed with flavor, and I wouldn't change a thing. The service was phenomenal, all thanks to Temple, the owner. He was taking orders, bussing tables, and making sure every guest felt welcome and well taken care of. It's clear he takes pride in what he does, and it makes the experience even better. The ambiance has a small, edgy bar feel, but Temple still makes sure to learn your name, which adds a personal touch you don't find everywhere. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area! Can't wait to come back!!

"Sancho"--a name whispered with a grin or a wink, often referring to the side piece, the other…read moreperson, the indulgence you're not supposed to talk about. And in a way, that's exactly what El Sancho Cantina is: an escape. A secret. A little taste of something else. Whether you slide in for lunch, happy hour, or dinner, El Sancho is where you come to cheat on your routine. Tucked into Thousand Oaks, it's a getaway hidden in plain sight. Sit at the bar, let the cool breeze drift through, and allow the Spanish ballads to work their magic. For a moment, you'll forget where you are--and believe you've wandered into a dreamy cantina somewhere deep in Mexico. Start with the "El Viejo"--their riff on an Old Fashioned. Let the applewood smoke swirl above the glass as you lean in. The aroma hits first, then the deep flavors of añejo tequila and Mexican whiskey settle in with smooth confidence. Sip slow. This isn't a race--it's a seduction. If you're looking for something a little lighter--a healthy balance between indulgence and intention--try the two taco plate with the green salad substitution. I went for one Potato taco, one Shredded Chicken taco, and swapped out the rice and beans for a salad of mixed greens and cucumber, dressed with balsamic vinaigrette and a squeeze of fresh lime. The flavors were bright, clean, and satisfying. I walked away full--but not heavy. If I was meeting my Sancha after, I could've easily gone for a stroll. Maybe even dessert. But don't let me lead you down the wrong path--the tacos and cocktails are already all the temptation you need. And if that post-lunch lull starts to creep in, fight back with the "El Cafecito"--a soulful wake-up call of Licor 43, Kahlúa, cold brew coffee, and chocolate bitters. My personal pick over an espresso martini--bold, smooth, and unapologetically delicious. So yes, you might be cheating on SoCal for an hour with Mexico vibes, but El Sancho doesn't judge. In fact, it invites you back--with open arms, a strong pour, and just the right amount of trouble.

I'm so glad I came back--it reminded me why this has been one of my favorite local restaurants for years. From the moment we walked in, Sammy took great care of us. Service like that makes a great meal even better. The tacos were absolutely outstanding--fresh, flavorful, and every bit as good as I remembered. And the margaritas? Still some of the best around. It's hard to beat great tacos, an excellent margarita, and top-notch service all in one place.
