From the look of the parking lot you might think there are closed but after entering we were greeted with all smiles .. nothing fancy I ordered the Seafood Platter.... Small group of us ate here for a late lunch. There were friendly staff to take our order after a short wait. We all ordered the small shrimp plate.The small shrimp are the size of salad shrimp, so I'd suggest the large shrimp plate instead. We liked the flavor of the coating on the shrimp though as well as the hush puppies, mac n cheese, green beans and squash casserole. The only other negative was the amount of time it took for our food to arrive. I'd still recommend, but add a little extra time for your meal. Wow where do I even begin. The scallops I ordered tasted old and not fresh at all and on top of that they were madly undercooked with the chewiest texture. The shrimp was okay but why leave the tails on popcorn shrimp that's just beyond me and the mac and cheese was just so bland. The fish we ordered tasted like it was out of a bag from store like if I wanted fish from the store I would've just went and bought it. Now them hush puppies were like little kisses from angels on your tastebuds cooked to perfection soft and moist but crunchy all in one bite. Had lunch there today and the food was really good! I posted photo's above. I had shrimp and flounder with squash casserole and coleslaw. The flounder was the best I've ever had! Cooked perfectly. My husband had shrimp and chicken with mac n cheese and coleslaw. He raved about the hush puppies. If you've never tried The Shrimper you are missing out on some great food! I am a huge fan of their chicken, the fried chicken is amazing! Their side items not so much, the fries taste like they are fired in the same oil as the fish and shrimp give them a funky flavor, but who cares about the subpar sides when the chicken will blow you away. The cleanliness is average nothing special, the staff are super nice and sweet real down home feel. If you have not had the fried chicken you don't know what you are missing it will blow ANY fast food fried chicken away. read more

Fried Chicken is always spot on. It's my go to lunch when passing through town. It's also a must for tailgating. Get fried wings or a big take out of fried chicken. Sea food is good as well and hush puppies are the bomb. Never had a bad meal in 30 years. read more

The food is mediocre at best, but the staff is surly. I don't know who the owner is, but he obviously just leaves them to their own devices. You can tolerate sub par food if the staff is friendly and appear to care about the quality of food and service, but this is far from the case. My daughter chipped her tooth on fried oysters!! How difficult is it to shuck oysters without leaving pieces of the shell??? Always check your food before driving off unaware. read more

I have been coming to The Shrimper since childhood, and return whenever I'm in town. Delicious home-style seafood and country cooking, at reasonable prices. I love their delicately-floured and fried shrimp! I also love their steamed, grilled and baked offerings for those more health-conscious folks. This is so disgusting. It's over-priced and you get small portions. We got chicken breast and it was the size of a mediocre thigh. I've never experienced such unseasoned food. My family and I really enjoyed our lunch recently. We dined inside and the restaurant was very clean. The service was super and we were very pleased overall. I highly recommend the fried flounder. Had the Shrimper yesterday. Had the Schitz today... not sure what happened, but it was either the food or the food.

Wife and I did the drive thru at The Shrimper Restaurant in Sumter on 10-12-18 for the fried 3 piece flounder dinner w/ 2 sides and 2 hushpuppies. My wife said the flounder was excellent and so was the squash casserole. The fries sucked and we will tell you why shortly. My flounder was good to me, but I like more crust on my fried flounder. Absolutely no complaint with the flounder. The hush-puppies were surprisingly good. However, the Service missed a couple of small items, ketchup and extra tarter sauce. They certainly round out a meal, especially a take-out meal. We called and lodged our issues and the CSR said that they would make sure that the did not omit the items in future customer orders. Well, that's nice, but not helpful. So, we recommend the food, but we are unimpressed with their customer service. Will not return, poor customer service has its consequences. read more

I went into this restaurant tonight, January 28, 2021 at 7:00 pm and was so disappointed! None of the workers were wearing their cloth masks properly. The young lady at the counter that took my order was wearing her mask below her nose. I asked her why she was not wearing her mask properly and she told me that she can't breathe when she wears it. She also said that her mom was claustrophobic, so maybe she is also. The lady that was working the drive thru window was wearing one of those upside down plastic face shields, with no cloth mask. The blond hair lady, with the fake black eye lashes was not wearing a mask at all, although she did have one of those bandanas around her neck. The cook, wore his mask below his nose line. I mean like, we have been and are still in this pandemic for going on a year now, and I find it hard to believe that none of the workers in this restaurant are wearing their masks properly. I truly hope that someone brings this to the owner/manager attention, because there is absolutely no excuse at to why this is happening! read more

Saw my food at take out for 20 minutes. Told staff to check my order. They said that it had been ready. No communication at all . I'm a regular and last 2 times have been terrible. Wish Sumter had another choice . Said I wouldn't be back last time but I will stick to it this time. Needs management! read more

WOW!! We ran across this place in our cross country travels. GREAT food, good prices, clean restaurant, friendly waitress! The shrimp was lightly battered and very flavorful. The regular combination is large enough to feed 2 adults that don't want to have to unbutton their pants before leaving. Highly recommend!! read more
