Well it would have been great to be able to try this establishment! Too bad I didn't get past the chips and salsa! My sister and I came in on Christmas Day for a nice meal and super ready to leave a huge tip to the kitchen and staff for being open on a holiday. Upon being seated we waited for about 5 minutes to order drinks, ice tea... easy peasy, and were given iced teas and an annoyed smile. Then the real waiting started... for almost 30 minuetes we watched as the staff was seating new guests, taking their orders, brining food out etc. We were trying to be polite and not flag down the servers but I did make eye contact with them each time they walked by and gave the "i have a question, help me" look and not once did anyone stop to ask what we would like to eat. Its sad to say but we were the only two non-hispanics in the entire restaurant and the only two that were visibly being ignored. This might just be a coincidence but if was definately enough to kind of put a wrench in my Christmas. When I finally did make contact with someone they were off putting and acted like we had done something wrong just by coming in there. I went up the bar and offered to pay for my tea and leave. My wife and I came here about 11:30am on a Sunday. It was not too busy, I think there was one other table seated. In addition to the dining area, there is a bar area that also has slot machines as expected in Reno. We were promptly seated and brought complimentary tortilla chips, beans and salsa. The salsa is thick but not chunky, just the way I like it. The menu is large and offers a lot of options. Our orders were taken and I chose the chili verde and my wife chose a chicken burrito. One thing we noticed was everything is very clean and appears to be well taken care of. We noticed they have a happy hour Monday - Friday from 3pm to 7pm and 2 for 1 house margaritas all day Tuesday and Thursdays. Our food arrived in a timely manner and looked great. The burrito was huge. Everything tasted very good. The tortillas that came with the chili verde were very good as well. The price was decent, the service was great and the food very tasty. This was a nice surprise! We debated about giving this 5 stars, however, the chili verde plate looked skimpy compared to the chicken burrito but it cost almost 50% more. Si Amigos used to be our favorite restaurant for years. After new owners, we decided to try again tonight. The strong sewer smell upon walking in was very of putting. I walked into the restroom where the smell was stronger. There was no toilet paper or toilet seat covers. After being out with some friends, we wanted food, they knew a spot and we went. They made a table up for 10 of us. Got served with chips and enchilada sauce they called salsa. It was OK. Drinks took forever. Now being a large group not everybody made there mind up on what we wanted took our orders. Ordered fajitas combo, steak and shrimp, mine was eh, OK but way over cooked and the shrimp ehh I've had better. Service was horrible, guy was very lazy, I ordered a coke along with a beer and never got my coke. I u derstand have a tip included in the bill, but the service we got was no where near a 62 dollar tip. Personally, I'd left him nothing. There's only 3 table including ours. Needless to say I won't go back. I'd rather for the money we spent gone to Twin Peaks!! Got more bang for my buck. Won't be back to this Mexican restraint. read more

1.7.19 I had a strong Mexican craving one evening and wanted to try someplace new. After some Yelping, we decided on Si Amigos, right next to Moo Dang. The restaurant wasn't packed, but it wasn't full either. Our server brought us chips, salsa, and a refried bean dip to munch on while we browsed through our menus. Everything looked so good I didn't know what to order! But after much thought my room mates ordered their Pork Carnitas and Steak Fajitas. I was especially hungry and decided to order their Mi Amigos Muy Special. With a refilled basket of chips, we happily waited for our food to arrive. When our server brought our plates over, each dish looked and smelt amazing. The Pork Carnitas were covered with a delicious red sauce. The Steak Fajitas were served on a skillet with bell peppers and onions. The Mi Amigos Muy Special was served with grilled chicken, carne asada, sautéed prawns and mushrooms. The grilled chicken honestly had more flavor than the carne asada, making that easily my favorite part of that dish. Each entree was served with rice, beans and a choice of corn or flour tortillas. We don't eat Mexican all that often, but I'm very glad we tried something new. Si Amigos dishes out generous portions, and serves good quality foods. Cute spot in midtown that serves a mean mango daiquiri. The decor is cozy and the service was good. Parking was a bit frustrating but that's certainly not the restaurant's fault. Just watch out for aggressive parkers! The staff did a good job spacing out their customers and they offer a hand sanitizer station when you enter. The menu is pretty typical and I went with a chicken tostada salad. It was served with rice and beans and the flavor was good. Maybe even a tad too mild, but a little salsa solves that. The chicken was tender but not given a chance to drain before it was put on the tostada shell. So that made for a soggy salad. My friend had enchiladas and enjoyed them. You are advised that they use peanut butter in their enchilada sauce. I was not a fan of the sweeter flavor that the peanut butter gives but my friend thought it was a tasty twist. Towards the end of our meal, we had a new waiter take over and he was very nice but his cologne was so strong you could taste it. It seemed to permeate everything and even when he left our table, his cologne lingered. I could still smell it through my mask. Too much! I would give this place another shot and I would definitely order another mango daiquiri. But I do hope that the cologne bath was just a one time thing. read more

Lunch at noon on a Monday. I originally scheduled a meeting at the Thai place in this plaza only to find out it is closed Monday. The Italian place also closed. But Si Amigo was open so I was glad to give it a try for the first time. Seating (and parking) were ample - which I really appreciate. I was greeted and seated promptly when I entered, another huge plus for me. Our orders were taken quickly and food delivered VERY fast. Overall the service was impressive, something I value. I ordered the Carne Asada Fajita and it was very tasty. There was more food than I could eat. While the meat was delicious, it was a little dry compared to other Carne Asada I've had. I do have Mexican places in Reno I like more than this, but this is a solid option, especially for a lunch meeting. If you need a place in Midtown to hold a lunch meeting where there is easy access, easy seating, good food, and you can hear yourself talk, you should add Si Amigos to your list of options! read more

If you've read any of my previous reviews of Mexican restaurants, you will probably notice I'm not a big fan of Mexican food. (Primarily because I lived so close to the Mexican border for 8 years and had my fill.) But I may have to change my mind. I really enjoyed the last two Mexican meals I've had. Si Amigos wait staff was friendly...didn't shy away from groups of 12. The service was fast even when we were so many of us. And I totally enjoyed the Petron Margarita and Shrimp Fajaita. And, what I really appreciated was not only were the shrimp cooked to perfection...they took the tails off of the shrimp. Hate when I'm served hot shrimp and you have to pull off the tails. That ok with shrimp cocktail...but really bugs me on hot meals, especially those with a sauce. So cudos to Si Amigos...thanks for no shells. So it looks like I may be changing my attitude toward Mexican food....but I'm headed back to Arizona for a month (so close to the border, that I see a lot of Mexican food in my future, again!) If you enjoy Mexican food, give this place a try. I enjoyed it, you might too...go for it! read more

It was LOADED with beef, but strangely lacking in flavor. I'm not one that wants lots of spices, but I do like /some/ spice. Black beans were ... black. They don't have Coke Zero - full star off! From the the spicy fresh beans with chips to their cantarito cocktails, Si amigos knows how to Mexican. For food, I usually go for the carne asada burrito, but the enchiladas are a close second. The service is great and most of the staff has been there since I first started going years ago, so its nice to see familiar faces. Pretty satisfying Mexican food! Before the meal comes out, of course there's chips and salsa. But there's also bean dip and the bean dip is terrific and a little spicy! It's $2.50 if you want more. I ordered the steak fajitas. It came out sizzling like it's supposed to. All the side items--beans, rice, pico de gallo, guacamole, and sour cream-- were all good but not one of them was "great." The tortillas were average. But the steak fajita meat and veggies themselves were 5/5, terrific and thinly cut so they could be cooked well. This review would be a 3/5 if this meat wasn't cooked so perfectly. We ordered fried ice cream--it was fine but just FYI, this is just the normal vanilla ice cream covered in corn flakes--I did not taste or notice it being actually lightly fried or breaded. Separately, this was sort of strange--we asked for some limes and they charged us $1.25 without letting us know it would be extra (and it honestly didn't make sense.) For my birthday a group of us (about 15) made reservations and went to dinner at Si Amigos on a busy Friday nigh. When you walk in the ambiance is very vibrant yet warm and beautiful. Immediately we were seated, by a friendly and helpful server. We did not have to wait till all of our group arrived, as is the custom in some restaurants. We were offered a drink and said we'd wait till the rest of our group arrived to order. They brought us chips and yummy salsa, right away and water. The pitchers of excellent margaritas and glasses arrived soon after. Some with salt on the rim, some without. Just as we ordered. The food was delicious with large portions. The owner came over and chatted with us a bit and he was so attentive. All throughout our meal the service was friendly and amazing. I highly recommend this great establishment for large groups small. The bar area is nice and Mexican theme stylish, as are the chairs, tables and art, throughout the restaurant. My granddaughter and I decided to skip the gym LOL and have lunch. This restaurant was in the same location so we walked over and we're immediately seated the restaurant was almost empty. The waiter arrived immediately offering us a drink and I enjoyed a margarita but she declined. We were served chips with salsa and bean dip before replaced our order. We sure the sampler plate which was huge more than enough food for two of us. We had chicken taquitos, chicken nachos and a chicken quesadilla. Everything was hard and fresh. They also added a pile of lettuce sour cream guacamole and salsa in the middle. My granddaughter ordered extra sour cream and they provided a small container for three dollars which seemed ridiculous to us. I've been dining at Si Amigos for years. The staff is always friendly; it's never super-busy; we love their complimentary chips with salsa and bean dip. Their apretalados appetizer is my favorite: shrimp wrapped in bacon with sautéed onions, mushrooms, peppers, covered with jack cheese... to die for! Now that I'm pescatarian, I request without bacon and it's still amazing. That's often my entire dinner. I don't think I've ever had a disappointing meal here in probably 15 years! read more

Well stuffed with thumb sized shrimp smothered in a slightly sweet cheesy sauce. Recently tried the cancun enchiladas, lots of crab, but not quite as good. We ordered the Si Amigos margarita which tasted mostly like orange juice and not freshly squeezed as described.
