He gave an attitude for asking for a vegetarian pizza because he said that he already only us all he had was sausage and pepperoni. After we told him we didn't ask for an attitude, we just left and as my partner turn his head, that same person(the older gentleman at Si-Pie Pizzeria) gave us the finger. When my go-to thin crust pizza place (Cafe Luigi) was too busy for Super Bowl Sunday, I pivoted to a place I had bookmarked: Si-Pie. I ordered a large cheese and a large pepperoni. I'll say that the pepperoni curled up on the sides, providing that "meat cup of grease" experience that will either delight or disgust you. Beyond that, I think the pizza was extraordinarily mediocre. I think the mark of a great thin crust pizza is when you want to finish the crust when you get to the end of your slice. Because Si-Pie's crust is exceedingly bland and dry, I discarded mine. If you're feeling like rocking the thin crust experience, check out Cafe Luigi. It's superior on every level. Walked right in and was welcomed by the owner (always great when a owner remembers his regulars) and tried the Italian pizza and loved it. Very typical hole-in-the wall Chicago pizza joint, and I mean that in the best way possible. As it was located close to Wrigleyville, I actually ate there twice over a weekend while in town for a Cubs game. There are multiple menus available online, so ordering through the Slice app was a little confusing at times. The first night I ordered delivery to the hotel. I wanted to try shawarma, because I've never had it, but apparently it's only available as a topping on a whole pie. So, I got an Italian beef sub and extra fries. It arrived very quickly, but they didn't include any napkins. No big deal. The fries were surprisingly good, and the sub was slightly dry. I would've loved a little container of jus for dipping purposes. The night of the game, my brother and I walked to their location because they were open late, and we were craving pizza to soak up some of those $10 ballpark beers. They seem to specialize in tavern style pizza by the slice with a cracker crust. It was a little greasy, but not terribly, and the garlic knot I had was really good. Yes, we live in Chicago - the Home of the Deep Dish Pizza. And deep dish can be really amazing! The buttery crust, the cheese on the bottom locking in the crispness of the crust from the amazing sauce, and the thick layer of classic sausage makes Chicago deep dish one of the quintessential draws of the city. But Si-Pie is different. And wonderfully so. Si-Pie is the delicious antithesis of the Chicago Deep Dish phenomenon. Thin, crispy, delicious and HUGE slices of pizza. They combine a crispy cracker crust with really great ingredients, and a killer sauce combine to make a great pie. The staff is great, and will seriously bend over backwards to give you a great experience. I've never had anything other than pizza here so I can't comment on any other foods. Frankly, I'm not sure when I will, because their pizza is frankly great. The pizza is great, the staff is awesome and the price is right. This place has a lot of good reviews so I was super disappointed when I tried the pizza especially a $30 one! This was one of the worst pizzas I've ever had. It was very soggy and possibly undercooked. There were no spices anywhere to be found - probably the most bland pizza ever. The crust was tasteless and soggy. If you have only eaten here by ordering take-out, I suggest you go visit the place and see where your food is being cooked. See attached picture - the soda machine drain had a disgusting amount of bacterial slime build up. This does not happen overnight folks, it takes days and weeks of zero cleaning to get to this point. They have been previously cited for ice machine issues as well, another place where slime can build. If the drain looks like this, imagine what is going on inside the ice machine. Also have been cited multiple times for basically having no access to the hand-washing station, so be careful who is handing you your $5 slice. This is all information that can be found on the city data portal of restaurant inspections, btw. Frankly this place was super cluttered, with cases of products in customer seating areas. None of the pie pans and other equipment looked all that clean - pans were also super bent up. The guy behind the counter seemed bothered to be there. Ordered delivery awhile back and had to trash the leftovers because the paper liner ended up sticking to the bottom of the pizza (see photo) the day after. I stored the leftovers in the box and placed in the fridge and the paper liner ended up soaking up moisture from the pizza and absorbed into the bottom of the crust. It wasn't feasible to separate the wet paper from the crust without destroying the pizza. In addition, I opted to add giardiniera to the pizza, but it wasn't the traditional mixture of vegetables. If something isn't made the way you want it... he is beyond willing to take a hit and make sure that you leave happy. I have had many conversations with him about his restaurant and even some of his families doings. I frequently ate the sausage slice and drink combo. Normally when you think slice, it may be 1/8 Or 1/6 of a pizza which is nice.... here they give you 1/4 of a pizza and a drink for cheeeeap. I would like to give 0 star for this place solely because the owner is a huge JERK! my hands are shacking as I'm writing this. Was my first time ordering from this place and didn't realize the store site routed me to another site where the menu prices are apparently different based on the location or the app used, or whatever. But I called in to place an order using the online menu provided. Couple of days later noticed that the total charge on my card seemed little more than the price I saw so I called to request a breakdown of the charge. I got yelled at by the owner pretty much the whole time. If the interaction was in person, pretty sure he would have punched me in the face and kicked me out. Not even kidding! Never been so scared to death from anyone. On the phone, he seemed distracted, was not really listening to what I'm saying and kept asking me for my information multiple times so I told him maybe he should write it down. Does that makes me a bad customer and gives me him the absolute right to YELL AT ME, HANG UP ON ME, then to CALL ME BACK MULTIPLE TIMES TO YELL AT ME EVEN MORE? I felt like shit at the end and just ended up crying because I couldn't handle the anxiety. Everytime he called me back, with "further investigation into my order", it seemed he'd calmed down from the rage, but because I was contesting what he was saying he would blew up again and start yelling. He literally did this three times. by the last call he said he would refund my full amount. I asked him to just refund me for the difference and he yelled at me some more for that. This review is actually a couple of weeks late, as we all know how easy it is to get distracted and forget things. ‍ But I really want to express how satisfying and rare it is these days to experience EXCELLENT customer service, and to explain to everyone how we found it! First of all, our PIZZA was DELICIOUS! - But secondly, which made the pizza even more special, was that it was free! And that leads me back around to the EXCELLENT service that the Owner, Simon, extended to me and my family. My wife and I had been wanting to try a new pizzeria in the area, so I'd already heard of "Si Pie" from a delivery driver on the next block over from us that I ran into while walking my dog; so he suggested we give it a try. Later on, I Googled for the address, but was mistakenly directed to their old address, which was now a remote kitchen for online orders. So I called the number given and Simon answered the phone. Because of the mistake, he insisted I travel the few blocks to where he was setting up his new location, and he would make the few slices that we wanted to grab for the kids. I went by, stepped inside to wait for the slices, and we introduced ourselves and struck up a conversation about his menu items, other locations, and the restaurant's history in Chicago. Now mind you, we were only looking to order a few slices, but before the pizza even came out of the oven, Simon said he'd give us the whole pizza, and refused to let me pay him! I was very grateful, and absolutely blown away. We got the pizza home and, let me tell you, we absolutely devoured it!- It was amazing! Hit or miss with the quality and service lately. I've had some great pepperoni whole pizzas from there in the past. Unfortunately, I had a bad experience recently. I ordered the meatball sandwich with mushrooms for carryout via the Slice app. It was supposed to come with garlic knot(s). When I got home and opened it there was very, very little sauce, no mushrooms, and no garlic knot(s). Thought it would have cheese since the only option for cheese was "extra" cheese. I was nervous going in. This is the lair of my ex-arch nemesis, Doug of Pie-Hole. You see, circa 2012 a furious online battle raged between me, intrepid yelp reporter, and Doug, butt joke purveyor and sometime pizza maker. It's a long story so I'll skip it, but let's just say I approached Si-Pie with a healthy dose of caution. But I approached nonetheless, out of curiosity as to what the new place was like and for love of pizza. I do love pizza. And after noting the rave reviews on yelp, there was nothing left to do except walk the 50 steps from my shoebox apt and give it a try. The Pie Hole sign is gone and has been replaced with a Si-Pie sign (smart). The rest, however, is almost identical to what was there before. From the tables, to the counter, to the ovens (makes sense). Same, same, same. If there were packages of napkins left behind somewhere in the back, I'll guarantee he's loaded them into the dispensers. Most of the pizza is made to order as before, but there's also a few ready made options for the man on the go. I opted for the ready made pepperoni. To give it a bit more heat, it was put through the pizza oven conveyor belt. While I waited, some other dudes' slice slid out and was duly packed and readied. I only point this out because subsequent to this, a very strange exchange ensued between the clerk (Simon of Si-Pie??) and the dude who was at most ten feet away tip tapping on his phone in a texting trance. I should also add that the clerk had a sparse mustache and mannerisms more than a little bit reminiscent of Pedro from Napoleon Dynamite. Which was in and of itself amazing enough. "hey" exclaimed the clerk (in a sexy whisper) --waits 20 seconds which feel like an eternity "hey your order is ready" exclaimed the clerk (in a sexy whisper) --waits another 20 seconds which feel like an eternity At this point I considered jumping in to help resolve the situation But perplexed, I just kept watching to see what would happen next. "hey" exclaims the clerk (in a sexy whisper) --Waits another 20 seconds After more silence the dude finally looked up to find me and Pedro staring at him with wide eyed wonderment. Realizing that something was amiss he retorted "Oh?!? is my order ready" He then picks on his pizza box and exits the restaurant. Aaand scene. After this peculiar exchange, my slice was just about out of the pizza toaster. Paying careful attention to the progress of my slice, once ready, I promptly paid my $5 or $6 bucks (seems high) and sauntered back to my shoebox apt to watch some soccer and scarf down some delicious pizza. It's a big thin slice. That doesn't fit in the box so about one third is folded over. There's also a packet of Parmesan and a packet of cracked peppers thrown on top. I'll bet 1:5 or possibly even 1:10 that that box is leftover from Doug of Pie Hole. That's easy money. One look at the pools of grease floating on top of this cheap slice, made me seriously consider throwing it away without so much as a bite. However, after reviewing my options in the refrigerator, I decided to plow ahead. Ugh. Not good. I couldn't taste any sauce. The cheese seemed cheap. I was glad when it was over. I have to say, the rave reviews for Si-Pie defy logic. So much so, that it can only be that they are friends and family of the owner. There's just no god-damn way this is a 5 star place. Whole foods pizza is better. 7-11 pizza is better. Frozen pizza you heat up is better. Si-Pie is new. And they have good pizza making equipment. So I hope they do a better job going forward. That's certainly possible. Or else the next pizza place after them does a better job. At some point it would be super cool if there was a good pizza place nearby. The bf and I went here for lunch today and my oh my. Okay here we go...had I not been with my bf I would have turned back around and walked out. I had the big boy chicken and mushrooms the bf had the sausage and mushrooms both made to order, which was a bit strange for a slice but okay. Food wise I could not find anything great to say about the pizza if anything the mushrooms were fresh but, I've definitely had better frozen pizza. Before going here you're actually better off finding a pizza recipe online and try making it from scratch I believe you'd be better off. This was the worst pizza I've ever had and it's shameful for this place to even be considered a pizza place. At minimum you're expecting a great crust, quality cheese, and a rich sauce. No, no, no! The crust was more like a cracker, the cheese is made from oil not milk (meaning its cheap) and the sauce is likely from a can, its sparingly and disgusting. I cannot believe this place has 5 stars it must be family and friends voting. Almost all of the things on the menu were unavailable, they didn't even have fries. What a waste of my money!!! $5.55 for a slice of sausage pizza advertised as a "BIG" slice should have more than 6 VERY small pieces of sausage on it! AND the pizza should not be served cold, especially when I was told that the pizza "just came out" when I asked how long it had been resting under the heat lamp. It's my third time here, and I ordered a big slice of sausage pizza like usual. It's not a knock-your-socks-off type of pizza place, but it was previously fresh and tasty and close-by. To my dismay, the price had gone up by a dollar or so and the pizza was much less fresh than I remembered. But then! The owner of Si-Pie asked me how I liked my food. I said it was just okay, and was disappointed in the quality this time around. He mentioned that they bought one of those turny-pizza-warmer-thingys because people had been requesting pizza on the go (like, need it in under a couple minutes), but that you could always ask to have it made fresh without any issue. To make up for it, I got a free 10in pizza on the house. It's not Lou Malnati's, Giordano's, Pequods, or whatever other fancy-ass pizza place you enjoy going to, but the pizza is still good, the owner cares about his customers, and I'd definitely take my suburb friends here for a good slice of pizza. read more

WOW, what can I say about Simon--the owner--and his entire team?! I reached out to Si-Pie for a specialty pizza that needed to be delivered for a movie premiere the next day and they came to the rescue! I live in Manhattan and have never been to Chicago but I wouldn't recommend anywhere else but Si-Pie. The way Simon spoke about his team showed me that he believed they were part of his family. Everyone I spoke to for this bizarre and unusual delivery was able to communicate and adapt seamlessly--all under the adjustments of short timing and covid protocols. They made this delivery to my client in Chicago a VERY special one. My client raved about the pizza and said it was piping hot when it was delivered. I know that we usually seek out restaurants for good food but I am one to come back when I know the team truly believes in hospitality and good service. That is exemplified in the crew at Si-Pie. Covid has been so hard on all of us in the hospitality and food/beverage industry. It was ok, not great. So let me first say the service was not hot. The guy at the cash register this past Friday evening was unprofessional. He seemed to be mocking the customers.
