Biggest problem was waiting FOREVER for our food once they finally came to take our order. There was only a party of 4 outside when we got there and one couple was seated while we were waiting to be seated. They couldn't figure out how to seat 5 people and made us wait even though no one was inside and only 2 tables being used outside. Food finally came and I had to send back my food 3x to have them cook the bean sprouts. Presentation looks nice but it's the first time I had a pad Thai variant and everything was separate from peanuts to raw bean sprouts. 3rd time the waitress came back and said there was some already cooked into the dish so they took away the raw. They mixed the peanuts and tofu into the noodle and that was their fix. It was never cooked together and 5 small 3/4" cubes of tofu (cheapest item) topped the dish. Our son ordered the beef pho dish - almost a half serving of noodle, 4 pieces of tough chewy meat? Broth bland and some uncooked bean sprouts once again. Our other son got sick after eating yellow curry with chicken. Wife had green curry and pork - no lie 4/5 thin small strips of pork and just lots of liquid in the bowl Very disappointing meal - place filled up and everyone was sitting no order taken no food given. They left the bill on our table with their handheld scanner and never even came back to collect it, let alone ask if we wanted dessert. P.S. noticed suv pull up with black shirt/pants worker come out (dressed same as the wait staff here) and carried heavy handle bag of food to put in back seat - almost as if they made 50 lbs or rice and threw it into a bag and their other Resturant picked it up?? The rice used for all four sushi rolls we ordered was gummy, under-seasoned, and clearly overcooked. Alas, I've had better rolls at our local supermarket. The staff was friendly but lacked coordination. An appetizer was served with my main course, and one member of our three-person party was served their entree fifteen minutes before the rest of the table. During that time while we waited for our meals, a different server asked if we were all finished and wanted to order anything else. The Thai dishes were okay, but nothing to write home about. The food was simply amazing. I noticed the 3 stars but decided I would try it. The vegetable soup and fresh spring rolls were absolutely delightful. They were made with fresh ingredients. My husband had the cashews with chicken and again very fresh. Yes the service was a bit slow but if you can be patient the meal was so worth it. First off, Cil was out waitress, AMAZING!!! We loved the food and there were options for almost all dietary restrictions, including vegan and vegetarian. By this point in our vacation we were in sweatpants mode so we got takeout to bring back to the motel cottage. I got the vegetable soup which was good and simple and hit the spot for a soup craving, and tofu triangles which were also pretty good. My partner got dumplings and orange chicken, his fave, and took notice that they appear to have used white meat--i.e. chopped up chicken breast--which apparently is a higher quality ingredient than average for this cuisine. According to him, I don't know, I don't eat chicken. We sat outdoor for dinner. My daughter's Pho was very good. My husband's Drunken Noodle got thumbs up too. My Seafood Lover had a great flavored sauce; shrimps, squids, scallops and mussels (and veggies) were all tender, unfortunately the lobster tail was a bit over cooked and chewy (someone else in our party felt the same way). So I was a bit surprised that the yelp review for this place was so low. The Pad Thai was the best pad Thai that my party had in over 20 years. We also got the Thai basil chicken and the pad see ew which were alright. The bok choy pork belly was not bad at all and the dumplings were probably my least favorite but still okay. I think the biggest thing is the menu is huge and it is best to stick with the traditional Thai cuisine menu options when ordering. our last official meal in Bar Harbor was Thai Food. We kinda checked off everything else at this point and settled for this place after a pretty long day of hikes. Unfortunately, Siam Orchid suffers from similar issues found in a lot of restaurants in tourist locations. Seasonality of the location, COVID-19, and a lack of major demand for Thai Food in the area are definitely contributing to what seems like mediocre food quality. Also, trying to make Thai Food tourist-friendly is in itself a difficult task. We arrived on what seemed like a quiet evening. More takeout orders than dine-in. The outdoor area is more exciting than indoors, but we stuck to the indoors just because of ease. We ordered a few items: Spring Rolls Tom Yum Soup Massaman Curry w/ Tofu Fresh Garlic entree with Tofu Unfortunately, it seemed like the starters were the highlight of the night. The massaman curry was too watery and just lacked spice and taste. I kinda had a feeling of this when the waiter didn't ask for spice level in our food. The Fresh Garlic entree really didn't have any taste to it. That is just the overarching theme. I just wish there was some taste to the food. But as I mentioned above, I wonder if the factors above just led to an overall sense of complacency. I also noticed it with the service, where hospitality and knowledge of the food just seemed a bit scant compared to what I'd expect in a tourist town. Our family just finished a three day visit to Bar Harbor, which is a wonderful place. On day one we discovered this restaurant. The food was excellent. The service was excellent. The owner was always out front greeting his customers. We ended up eating there three times! We had the pork dumplings, drunken noodles, dumpling soup, tom yum soup, pad thai, chicken satay and masaman curry. Everything was delicious. Prices are reasonable. Highly recommended!! read more

This restaurant is off Cottage Street on Rodick. The reviews aren't too high, but I think it depends on what you're looking for. My wife and daughter wanted to have a late lunch and eat something spicy. This is one of the few Asian restaurants in town within walking distance from Mount Desert and Main. It is not a fancy restaurant, but a great spot to visit if you need to eat some rice and Asian food. The people are friendly. However, on a busy night during peak season, I can imagine that this restaurant can get pretty packed. We stopped in at the local supermarkets, and saw very few Asian food ingredients. Suddenly everyone is a Thai food expert. This place is your average Thai food restaurant! Be strategic about what you order. We ordered the Thai wings appetizer, Tom yum soup, Basil fried rice, ginger chicken, and Thai iced tea. Basil fried rice was delicious! Ginger chicken was also very good (we added their hot sauce), and the wings were yummy wings. The Thai iced tea isn't as sweet as a lot of places, but it has a stronger tea flavor so just be aware of that when you order. Finally- the Tom yum soup was probably the most disappointing, but even that was just average (does not warrant a 1 star) Everything was average/above average. I tend to be very generous with reviews of Thai food, since I generally like almost every dish at almost every Thai restaurant I've been to so far. Siam Orchid pushed me to my limit, though, and not in a good way. First, the positives. The outdoor space is nice, and the servers were friendly. My appetizer, the Tom Yum Soup, was delicious, with a great hot+sour broth that hit the spot. But my main was honestly not great. I had the Thai Basil entree with chicken. And it tasted like chicken and veggies hot off a stove, nothing else. No seasoning, and the "sauce" it came in was just runoff cooking oil. Bland taste and a heavy, oily dish did not add up to a great meal. I hope they can improve flavor so that entrees are as impressive as the Tom Yum Soup, but wouldn't seek this place out for a meal again. read more

The drunken noodle came out with not traditional type of noodles and it tasted sweet and sour like pad Thai.... It could be anything but just not drunken noodle. Worst sushi I've ever had. The inside is very tacky, weird portraits for a restaurant and very run down looking, making me question the safety of the food & sanitization of everything else. Owners (assuming) phone ringing loudly and taking a loud business call in front of customers. Ceiling fans appeared to have build up of dust. This place needs a renovation then I'd feel safer eating here. $15 for the spider roll and caterpillar was all rice and so tiny. I would expect way bigger pieces. Disappointed. I think some context is necessary here. Who goes to Bar Harbor and ends up eating Thai food? Realistically, someone who didn't make reservations or didn't feel like waiting for a table at a seafood-forward restaurant. So a lot of people who are commenting here were probably getting guilt-tripped by loved ones after not having planned meals properly. Quite the coincidence that everyone who ate here was a Thai food connoisseur "craving Thai food" in Maine. Ha-ha. I'll actual admit it--I had too many variables the day I arrived and didn't plan dinner. But I had already spent $85 on lobster earlier that day so I just wanted to sit and eat. This is basic, overpriced, uninspired Thai food. My meal was okay. I ordered the mussels for like $18 (wtf) and then "Maine Crab fried rice" which pretty much just contained crab shavings (again, wtf). I ordered this garlic tofu thing and it tasted like someone thought about putting garlic on it but decided not to. The spring rolls were edible, but not good. The service, however was jaw droppingly bad. My entire order was incorrect. Whatever, it happens. So I waited while they made the correct order. While I was waiting, another customer came in and the staff member (I'm assuming he's one of the lead people because his pictures are everywhere) was insanely rude to her. I never saw anything like that before in my life. "There are other customers besides you." Mind you, she wasn't being rude, she just asked how long it was going to take and mentioned she was in a rush.
