Never had such good taste of Thai food before. We stayed in bar harbor just for a night, and we thought of eating seafood. However, we went to two famous seafood places found in yelp, and they were too full for the waiting list that night. We ran into here and ordered the pad Thai and fried rice. Surprisingly good. This place is great! We walked in on a Saturday night after failing to find a table at any other nearby restaurant, and it turned out to be very good. Basically what you would expect at a Thai restaurant. The mint chocolate they gave you after the meal tastes great. We had a good meal on a cold windy night. I am consistently disappointed with Siam Orchid, having been several times over the course of the year. It's wildly overpriced. The servings are rather small, presentation is lacking, and all offerings are lacking any really memorable or crave-able kick. I'm a fairly good home cook, but I like to dine out for meals I can't readily replicate at home--like Thai food. I'm not really a food snob, but this is NOT the place to go. I leave feeling ripped off. Every. Single. Time. I only go when friends insist they want something other than Bar Harbor's usual burger offerings. Tonight's tom yum soup --I figured I'd go for something cheap and easy, to ease the risk of another lackluster experience--was dotted with button mushrooms that were totally raw. The broth was flavorful enough, but I suspect it was a sauce or powdered mix added to regular old miso, with a couple bits of bamboo, some tiny cubes of tofu, and those raw grocery store salad bar-esque mushrooms. If you want to still give Siam Orchid a shot, I recommend going for lunch. The prices are much more reasonable, hence less buyer's remorse. I'm from Kentucky. I've had astronomically better Thai food--with authentic ingredients and talented chefs--in eastern Kentucky, with much better prices. Disappointed. read more

Tasty Thai and a super friendly staff! My husband and I paused to read a menu from a table in the patio seating area. We had our beloved golden retriever with us and while we were still standing and looking at the menu a kind server came out with a bowl of water for our dog. Smart move! We immediately sat down at a table. We shared an order of fresh spring rolls with a sweet and sour sipping sauce. Typically tasty! I ordered pad Thai, but made it vegan by having them hold the eggs and fish sauce. It hit the spot. The server brought out dog more water and later even brought him a tiny piece of pork. We had a great meal and a wonderful dining experience. We're always grateful for a dog friendly restaurant and we appreciated that our server was a sweet dog lover. read more

I would left a zero start if I can. The service was terrible. When my food came, I didn't have any utensil n napkin. The table was dirty, they didn't even clean it before ask us to sit there. We had to move the previous ppl's water ourselves. We waited like 30 mins after we ordered. The curry was watery, only had like 5 pieces chicken. The pad Thai was not the one we usually have. The beef seemed like only boiled with the noodle, had a blood water taste. Yikes. The satay was fried instead of grill, but better than the other two we had. We barely finished our food. read more

We all enjoyed curry last night at Siam Orchid! Our food was prepared very quickly, and the kitchen was flexible to our desired substitutions. It was not the best Thai food I've ever had, but still yummy and a nice break from the marathon of lobster dining we've had in Bar Harbor. Edible is the nicest thing I can say. The "thick tangy sauce" my noodles were supposed to be in came out like a bowl of soup, and there was so much egg that the egg I left on the plate when I was done took up half. The chicken was obviously boiled previously before being added to everyone's dish as it was the exact same in taste and flavor in four different dishes. Very bad experience overall. The waitress messed up our orders, twice, we ordered drunken noodle, instead got pad Thai, and she insisted that's Drunken noodle!!! I've had Thai food many many times and can definitely tell the difference between the two! Cashew nut chicken had no cashew nuts at all, what kind of place is this!!! Worse than food truck! How is this place in business? I've had some poor meals over past few years i've been using Yelp & always considered writing a Yelp review but i just didn't care enough to go through the trouble of creating an account. We just spent $60 on take out and when we took out the "fresh" spring rolls, the sweet & sour sauce container was 25% full. Read 75% empty. But they must have known we wouldn't need much sauce because these were the saddest wilted lettuce spring rolls we have ever seen. The lettuce would be brown by tomorrow had we kept them. We each choked down a bite or two & threw the rest away. My girlfriend's Pud Sa-Eaw consisted of half the noodles being white, not even cooked in any kind of sauce and the broccoli was steamed to the point of mushiness. The Pineapple Fried Rice looked awful so i didn't even try it, my girlfriend said it was by far the worst she had ever had. My Spicy Basil Duck was alright. This white boy has a hard time gettting Thai people to take me seriously when i tell them i want 6 out of 5 stars on the spicy scale but this meal was truly spicy. We don't like wasting food so aside from tossing the spring rolls, the rest is in the fridge. But do i honestly think we'll eat it? More likely it will sit for a couple of days & then $60 into the garbage. WE HATE THIS PLACE, AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I would say worst Thai food ever but honestly, i think this is the worst restaurant food i have ever had. read more

An okay Asian-fix, but order carefully, if you go Thai food (we didn't have sushi). We went even after reading some negative comments, because we needed a change from eating sea food. Bar Harbor doesn't have many Asian choices. Someone wrote that the chef may be Chinese, and we agree. It is an okay Asian, if you don't order typically Thai dish. This place doesn't seem to use (enough of) fish sauce and lime, so we recommend people not to order typical authentic Thai dishes that require a good balance of salty, sweet, sour, and spicy. The lack of fish sauce and lime juice explains people's review that something is lacking or things taste bland. We didn't order Pad Thai, but we can easily expect extra sweet noodle. One thing we wished we didn't order was Tom Yum Soup, which was overly sweet and spicy, lacking the sour flavor of lime and the umami flavor of fish sauce. It was the worst Tom Yum we had in our life. Three things we ordered, and were decent, were yellow curry (you can't go wrong with coconut base, and it's spicy enough), basil fried rice (could use more basil, but decent spicy fried rice), and mixed vegetables (fresh vegetables with garlic, which was surprisingly good). read more

This is my 1000th review and I could not be happier than to share it with Siam Orchid!! This place is the best of the best in Bar Harbor. I love it so much. It is your mom and pop down home sorta backdoor Thai and sushi fare and it is delicious! I have had miso soup all over America and this place serves the best bowl. The sushi is also outstanding and the fried rice is well done and not drowning in oil like most other places. The service is super nice and might be the children of the owners or perhaps just high school kids working for a living. I respect this place a great deal and would return again and again. The seating inside or out is also wonderful. Just far enough off the main drag to avoid all the tourists but still right next to the main parking lot! Love it! Went here on recommendation from the nearby B&B we stayed at. We were told to go for their Sushi, not the Thai food. Excellent! We had shrimp tempura, some kind of roll (there are many to choose from) and some fresh rice paper veggie roll. The sauces were great. If you go, get the Sushi! The locals say so! read more

I'm a huge fan of Thai food, and I could eat this stuff every day. The prices are good, considering you're in Bar Harbor, and the service is prompt. The waiters are a little quiet, but certainly not unfriendly. The Pud Thai is great, as expected, and their sushi is fairly good but not extraordinary. I ordered pad thai and the food was greasy, tasted very sour like fish sauce and/or vinegar, and barely any other ingredients beyond the noodles.
