Food is ok but not that great. Setting is on the cheap side too. But price is high. Overall, I would not recommend this place at all.

We stop here almost every time we come to Bar Harbor. Tonight we had the fresh spring roll which was crispy and delicious. My husband had the chicken Pad Thai which he said was very good. I had the Ginger Sea Scallops. The sauce we excellent, just the right amount of ginger and spice without being overpowering. The vegetables were varied and crunchy. The scallops were perfectly done. Early on a Wednesday winter night, the restaurant we quiet except for some takeout. The service was excellent, attentive without hovering. An enjoyable experience. read more

Awful. We ordered take out. If I had walked by the place, I would have seen that it is empty while every other restaurant around is busy and I would have known to stay away. We ordered pad thai, one with chicken and one with tofu. Both had noodles that were so overcooked they had turned into a sort of mush. Neither had enough sauce to even call the dish pad thai. The chicken was rubbery. The tofu version had maybe seven bite size pieces. My interaction with the staff was minimal, but it was immediately clear to me why other reviews mention a rude waitstaff. They appear to have zero interest in trying to please the customer. Find something else to eat. read more

At the end of my date with Mr. Hottie, I suggest Thai as the main course of our food tour. We decided to check out Siam Orchid. When we walked in to the small building, we noticed how quaint it was. We were immediately greeted and given "to go" menus for our take-out order. We chose Shrimp Pad Thai and Masaman Curry Chicken. The restaurant was very busy and they told us there would be a wait. A quick trip to the corner store for some beers later, our order was ready! We decided to take our meal back to our hotel. When we finally sat down to eat, I was surprised to see how "soupy" the pad thai was. I was worried that it would be watery and flavorless. The Pad Thai was surprisingly good! While the sauce was thinner than I cared for, it was still spicy and flavorful. The Masaman Curry Chicken was just ok. I didn't care for the large chunks of bell peppers taking up the whole dish. The spice level was lacking and the peanut flavor was a tad "peanut buttery" instead of peanut sauce. I think Siam Orchid was just ok. It's not something I regret eating, but it's not something that I will seek out when I'm in Bar Harbor again. read more

I'm a bit under the whether and hoped that some spicy Thai would have helped clear up my head. Could not imagine a bigger disappointment. The "drunken noodle" tasted like the main seasoning was the electric pink sweet and sour sauce served with egg rolls. I asked for a 7-8 on a 1-6 spice scale. I got maybe a three. I asked for extra egg in my dish and there was barely a touch. When brought to the attention of the server, her reply was "Oh. Sorry?" And then walked away. Did not care about the service or our food. The pahd Thai was served with so much liquid it'd get confused with a thick stew or soup. Obviously frozen veggies. Tough dry meat. There was a giant bowl of crab Rangoon filling in the next room. Just sitting here. A guy was sitting in front Of it on his phone. Sneezing and coughing stuff up non stop. He was sitting 12 inches away from this heaping bowl of filling. The Thai Iced tea was not edible. Looked and tasted like carrot juice that had gone bad. I've had Thai food from Bangkok to Dayton ohio and this was the resounding champion of the worst Thai food ever prepared. It may have come from a frozen package. Or a La Choy can. This is probably the worst service experience I had in years. We had to call the waiter thrice to just place the order. And then we waited for at least 30 minutes to follow up on the order. When we were finally able to grab their attention, she had no clue about the status of the order. After two more follow ups, we were informed that the order was lost. There were no apologies issued either. The worst part was that all other restaurants were closing by that time. Never felt more frustrated at a restaurant. read more

I went to the Siam Orchid once for lunch and had the lunch special Thai Basil with beef. I asked for it as "spicy as they could make it." I had no complaints with my dish. The rice was properly cooked and there was an adequate amount of (properly cooked) vegetables (onions, green/red bell peppers, and mushrooms. However, they were a bit stingy with the beef. The heat level was also decent. I love extremely spicy food, and while my dish wasn't "extremely" spicy, it did have done heat. I'm a little surprised this place doesn't receive better ratings. My four star rating is perhaps a bit generous, but the food I received was on par with the majority of Thai restaurants I've visited at various places in the U.S. read more

I see that this restaurant has some lame reviews. I went there for lunch on June 5th. The lunch was so good that we came back for dinner. Once again - the food was excellent. Again, I too have eaten Thai food at a bunch of places and the food at the Siam Orchid was hot, fresh and served without delay. Incredible SPICY food! While we enjoyed the lobster in Bay Harbor we definitely need our spicy fix, this was definitely the right place for the job! If you're all about the ambience then you may not be thrilled but if you love finding hole-in-the-wall places with excellent taste value then there's not better place in Bay Harbor. We had the ginger fried rice, chicken red curry and soft shell crab with ginger and the food did not disappoint at all!! We especially loved the fried rice, so much so that we ordered another portion after we were already full! The crab was also excellent! The red curry was okay, but didn't steal the show for us. We had a bad vibe when we walked in because no one greeted us upon entering. We were seated at a table in the back in the corner. We were in the black hole of service. Two people came in after us and sat next to us. They were greeted with menus and water. We still had nothing. There is a reason people here eat lobster. It was probably one of the few Asian restaurants at Bar Harbor and sad to say they did not have lobster on the menu in the lobster town! It was a small restaurant and was very busy, we waited for a few minutes to get a table. The server was really nice. I had a very good coconut chicken soup it was delicious! The pad thai - umm..not so much the noodles were not soaked or cooked long enough it was a very saucy and sweet sauce. I also had the squid green curry. It was ok. We even left our card there because of the 4th of July fireworks, having to rush as it started earlier than expected. read more

If you've eaten Thai food before, it was probably better. My wife's Pud Thai with tofu was bland and soupy. My Massaman Curry with tofu was dry and bland. The thick peanut sauce served with the fried tofu was spicy and delicious. Lunch portions are appropriately small and affordable though I can't say my $2.75 glass of local root beer was quite the same bargain. Outdoor dining on the hip little Rodick Street is nice. Overall, you're in a tourist town and this is fine. If you're a local, you deserve better. read more

Congrats Siam Orchid: you are the worst Thai restaurant I have ever been to! Drunken noodles with beef is my favorite Thai dish. I know what it's supposed to look like and taste like: spicy, with wide noodles. The menu even notes that it's supposed to be spicy. My order from this place, however, was not at all spicy (not even a little) -- more sweet than anything -- and the noodles were the thin pad thai noodles. Worse yet, my girlfriend's chicken massaman curry "didn't taste like anything," according to her. It was a watery nothingness. Add to the top of that the annoying manager (or owner?) who was talking to his staff very loudly, close enough to the seating area that the noise was a part of our experience. I have never been in a Thai restaurant that was loud and annoying like that. Oh yeah, and each step of the process took way longer than it should have. Once we ordered it took a long time for our food to arrive. When I was ready to pay the check, it took the waiter a long time to come deliver that. When I had given him my credit card, it took an unreasonably long time for him to return with that. Each step of the way, this place was slow. Also evidently there was no toilet paper in the women's room. My girlfriend had to grab a roll in the hallway outside the bathroom to take in. Super tacky. read more

It's your basic Thai place. It's as average as it gets. Lots of different options, especially if you're vegetarian. Entrees around $13, which is pretty standard. Large portions, freshly made, no complaints but also nothing that really stands out to me. The atmosphere was not very nice, it felt like I was in a fast-food restaurant from the looks and feel of it. Service was good and friendly. We've had Thai food from places across the country, and based on what we got, this place is a winner. Yes, the prices are higher than what you might see in a more urban area, but, if you think about it, most of these places have to make their money in a couple of touristy months. That said, we were really pleased with our meals and the somewhat frazzled service provided by the lone waiter managing all the tables inside and outside of the restaurant. Since mine is a mixed marriage - I love spicy, he doesn't - we have to occasionally make compromises if we want to share meals. We opted to get a dish without any chili-pepper-spiciness-indicators and one that had one chili pepper: one of the specials that had a spicy peanut sauce and the ginger fried rice with tofu, respectively. The fried rice ended up being not spicy at all, but was still flavorful, with yummy strips of fresh ginger. The peanut sauce dish was loaded with fresh veggies and had a small kick to it, but was not overwhelming. The next time we're in town, we'll probably be back! read more

Where to start. We asked for chicken, they gave us tofu. We asked for noodles that tasted like something and they gave us noodles that tasted like nothing (we didn't explicitly ask for this but it should be implied). Maybe it was just an off day, but I got two things I try at most That restaurants -- Tom Kha Gui (coconut soup) and Pad Thai. We were greeted with a smile and an upbeat comment about the rain which we found very charming. We had come to pick up a to-go lunch order. The man we dealt with continued to be friendly and polite. He stated he moved to France at the age of five. If your budget is tight, don't eat in Bar Harbor. This Thai restaurant is higher priced than most, but I think it's still fair compared to other restaurants on the island. The lunch portion was just right. We ordered Thai tea, crab rangoons, chicken red curry and chicken Thai basil. The temperature was hot, the spice was extremely mild. The cooking is NOT Thai, e.g., I could taste ketchup in the Tom Yum, the noodle dishes were all sweet and drunken noodles were made from the same noodles as Pad Thai. 3 1/2 STARS We tried the Fried Dumpling appetizers along with several other entrees. Fried Dumplings--Ground pork, cabbage, ginger, and scallions wrapped in dough, served with Thai ginger sauce. These dumplings tasted freshly made and were very good. The Pud Thai was a narrow rice noodle dish with beansprouts, scallions, egg, and peanuts was sweet and tangy and was also good. Our Pud Sa-Eaw was stir fried wide rice noodles with chicken, broccoli, and carrots in soy sauce was good and savory. The Red Curry with pork, bamboo, bell peppers, and basil simmered in a red coconut curry sauce had just the right amount of coconut, and heat to make a very tasty dish. Lastly, we tried the Praram Paak-Sauteed in a creamy, spicy peanut sauce on mixed vegetables with fresh tofu was good as well. Service was good, friendly and quite fast. Prices were fair-good for quantity and quality of food provided. The outdoor patio where we ate was relatively clean. Bathrooms were marginal. read more

This is probably the biggest joke of a restaurant in town. Besides being unhygenic and disorganized the service was horrible with the order being lost. The waiters were called out thrice to check and no one responded and only upon pushing them further were we told the order was lost. There were no apologies of any sorts but a complete ignorance of the customers. This is as much a Thai restaurant as Panda Express is authentic Chinese. The curries are water-based, no coconut milk, there was no spice to any of the six dishes we ordered, and the noodles were so sweet and syrupy that even my twelve year old couldn't eat them. What a travesty. read more
