I can't believe it's been 11 years since my first visit! Theres been some changes.. mainly the location of SS. But other than that, the flavors, the service, and ambiance was the same, if not better! Since the move, the space is smaller, however I love how bright and open it is. And instead of going to the washroom in the motel, they have one inside the restaurant. We ordered our favorite dishes: spicy basil minced chicken (last option on the back of the menu) and the Thai volcano shrimp... and the cute and delicious Bear Thai Tea. I usually have a hard time finding my favorite Thai dish (basil chicken with minced chicken or pork) at Thai restaurants, so I'm really happy they didn't close for good. Both of the dishes we ordered are our go tos and can't say I'll ever order anything else! The shrimp is crunchy and pretty big... it looks similar to a small cider donut... and they give you about 6, with a side of rice and broccoli. I love that they added a sauce tray that they bring out before your food arrives, in case you need more heat in your dish. I hope next time, if I have room for it, to try one of the desserts. read more

We had Siam Square for our Valentine's Day dinner and it was amazing! Sooo flavorful and filling! I opted for Vegan Pad Ke Maw Fried Rice with tofu and it was delicious. So many flavors and cooked perfectly! There was a generous amount of tofu in my dish as well. My husband got the Pad Ke Maw Fried Rice with chicken and chimp and he loved it as well! They are generous with their portion sizes. Service was great and we got our food relatively quickly considering it was such a busy night. Staff were very friendly and helpful. I asked if they could make other dishes vegan as well and they said that they could which was nice to know. Very nice experience- from the service, to the food, to the ambiance! All and all a great affordable spot for lunch. This is the same Siam square that was located in the now shut down victory hotel. Lunch was solid and very well priced for $11 get a decent amount of curry and a spring roll. The food tasted good, not the best curry but pretty flavorful at the price you pay. The fried fish cake was good and enjoyed the dipping sauce. The papaya salad is a 3 out 5, it satisfies the craving, but not the best I have had. Interior is much smaller now, and the service is friendly and efficient. Side note when, I ate here in the past, I always disliked their pad Thai as it was too sweet more ketchup than tamarind. Come to find out they offer two styles one American one Thai, definitely stick with the Thai there is a reason they offer the American style as a side to their entrees. read more

I really love Thai food, so I was excited to try Siam Square. The décor was beautiful and authentic . it really reflects Thai culture in a lovely way. We ordered satay, pad thai, beef fried rice, and Tom Kha soup. The Tom Kha soup was delicious , rich and flavorful . The beef fried rice was absolutely amazing! I might actually come back just for that. The pad thai was okay, not bad, but I've had better elsewhere. The main issue for me was the satay; it was undercooked on the inside, which was disappointing. I hope they can improve the quality of the food, because the place itself has a lot of potential. Also, It might have just been an off time since we came close to closing, but the noise and cleaning during our meal made it very distracting. Service was ok but wasn't the best. Again, we came close to closin so.. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be coming back, but I really hope they work on consistency and the ambiance deserves better food quality. read more

3.5-4, rounding up. Siam Peanut lunch set is a great deal for the amount of food, and tasty. I have had mixed experiences with the chicken pad thai being kind of bland and not having a noticeable or flavorful sauce, and other times it hit the spot. I got curry once and did not enjoy it but maybe it was not representative. Also, I am more used to Indian style curries. I do take out here, so I am not sure about how it is like when dining in. It appears to be family run and staff are kind when I do pickups. I enjoyed the Thai iced coffee with bubbles (tapioca style boba that were nicely squishy)! It was too sweet at first, but the end of the drink was more balanced, and I think the sugariest part was separated so I would shake it more next time. For $5 it is a good deal. read more

Tried their new location on the west side for lunch. They offer about half a dozen stir-fry lunch specials and half a dozen curry ones. I ordered the Thai basil w/ chicken one. It came with a spring roll, rice and pad thai noodles. More starch than I'd have liked. And the basil/chicken concoction was a bit skimpy. Flavor was OK. The spring roll was very nicely cooked, crispy and not at all greasy. Siam Square now operates in a very small, bright space, quite a contrast to their older operation in the motel near Arborland. Service was attentive and efficient. A decent lunch outing, but not one I'd say is a "must." read more

We came here on a weekday evening and were pleasantly surprised at the menu! Appears they have more authentic options than some of the other places in town. We got the duck curry and the fried tilapia for our mains. The fried tilapia was a whole fish (including bones) and the flavors were amazing! The duck curry was delicious and a big portion! We also got a larb (usually my favorite Thai dish), but this one lacked some of the flavors I was used to before. read more

Inexplicably horrible to the extent that I wonder if this place is a social experiment. I've ordered it now twice. Last night I ordered the red curry ("extra spicy") and I had to take a Covid test to see whether I had suddenly lost my sense of taste or if Siam Square had managed to make a dish of food that somehow tasted like nothing at all. It was the latter. I've had glasses of water that were more titillating to the senses. I do appreciate a good superlative - Siam Square is definitively the worst rendition of a world cuisine I've ever had. Having never cooked Thai food before I think you could put me in a kitchen blindfolded and I would be able to do better. This time we tried the Pad Thai and I liked it, my chow partner loved it - for me it was good, however I still prefer Chicken Madness. We purchased the 2 person plate which came with Pad Thai, calamari, large fried shrimp, fried wonton strips, bean sprouts and dipping sauce, along with crushed peanuts and chili flakes on the side. Disorganized, awful service. I called in an order and they said it would be ready in an hour. I came in an hour later and gave them my name, and sat down to wait. After waiting 30 minutes I asked about how much longer my food would be. She went back to the kitchen to check and then told me they didn't have my order. She couldn't tell me that when I arrived? She let me sit there for 30 minutes knowing they didn't have it? The whole time I sat there no one thought to double check my name/order? They apologized and offered to make the food at that point, but obviously it would have been at least another hour wait so I chose to leave. read more

I mentioned something to the waiter and he basically shrugged it off and left the bill. Speaking of service, we were basically ignored for a majority of our time there. We ordered delivery from here a few weeks ago and it was pretty darn good! It's on the other side of town from us but it was the only Thai place offering delivery when we finally sat down to order a late dinner so I realized it may arrive on the colder side but it actually showed up piping hot! I was impressed. I ordered the pad see ew with beef and my husband got the pad thai with tofu. when I plated mine I was a little bummed because it seemed on the drier side, not a lot of sauce, but I shouldn't have been concerned because it was actually super flavorful. IDK if the drive across town gave the noodles time to absorb it all but it tasted great (even if my photo makes it look otherwise). I would have loved if it had a little more just to coat the noodles for texture purposes but the flavor was there. I LOVE coconut rice and mango anything so I had to try the coconut mango rice for dessert. it was a little stuck together/congealed by the time I got to it, and the mango arrived in thick slices so I needed to chop it up into bite sized chunks, but it was still a very satisfying dessert. read more

Apart from my previous review re: the Tom Yum noodle, there are a few specialties that are worth a mention: their roast pork with kai lan, fried tilapia with their thai sauce on the side and any pad prik stirfries, all brings me back to Thailand. We were looking for something new and found Siam Square. After studying the menu we selected Pad Thai, MeeGrob Lard Na, and Crab Rangoon. The order was ready when I arrived. The Pad Thai was acceptable. The tofu was chewy. The MeeGrob Lard Na was something unrecognizable. It was basically soup with a sour taste. The broth was unidentifiable. The fried egg noodles started out like chips. The broth softened them into a greasy, soggy mess. I ate the Pad Thai. My dining companion made ramen noodles. The Crab Rangoon was okay. Hands down, best Thai food I've ever had outside of Thailand. Honestly, the food here tastes so authentic that I thought I was back in Thailand again. (I visited a few years back). One of their best dishes here is the Tom Yum. It's got a nice balance of spicy and sour if you get it mild. Just be warned, the spiciness they have here isn't the watered down American stuff they usually have here in Michigan, but it's the real spicy stuff. Just a fair warning to those of you who have a low tolerance for spicy foods. As far as dessert goes, you have to try the Fried Ice Cream. The only day I don't feel like cooking and I ordered via UberEats. This is my 1st and my last time ordering from them. I'm sorry for leaving such a sh*t review but the food is honestly not decent at all. I edited my review to be nicer- They probably have other better dishes but the 3 i ordered today, are bad. The spices are all missing and even with the request of making my food extra spicy, the restaurant clearly doesn't bother reading the notes. Every time we've come here our food has been excellent. I usually say I'm pretty biased on Thai food since my mother is from Thailand and I've visited different places in Thailand to see family several times, but it's the closest thing to mom's home cooking that I have here in Michigan. I even got my daughter and husband addicted. It's one of the most authentic Thai restaurants in the area, the next that I know of is when the Temple opens its doors out in Warren. read more

This is probably the closest I have been to a hole-in-the wall restaurant. It seems like a little-known place to everyone except long-term Ypsilanti residents and Ann Arborites. My friend and I saw the waitress taking a lot of takeout bags to go, but the restaurant was empty except for us which was very nice. We got our food very quickly and it was delicious. Enjoyed a delicious dinner here last night. I'll admit, the fact that the restaurant is adjoined to a shady looking motel/hotel did not fill me with high hopes for this place. However, the inside of the restaurant is very charming with an abundance of Thai decorations and artwork. They have plenty of seating areas and I liked the odd little booths they had. The woman that greeted us was super friendly and sweet. The food was delicious. I had the Thai Square Dumplings as an appetizer and the Pad See Ewe with chicken. My friend had one of the soups and a vegetable Panang Curry. I got to try his curry and I really liked it. The dumplings were so delicious and full of flavor. I ordered my Pad See Ewe spicy and was glad to taste that it did come out really spicy! I've asked for dishes to be made spicy at other places in town and usually it's not spicy enough for me. The only complaint I would have about the food was that my dish said it came with Chinese broccoli but it actually came with regular broccoli. It wasn't a huge deal as it still tasted delicious but I definitely would have preferred to have Chinese broccoli in my pad see ewe. Service was overall great, but when we went up to pay we had to wait a bit before someone come to take our payment. I really enjoyed my meal here and would definitely come again! read more

I've only ever had delivery from Siam Square so haven't visited in person, but in my experience this is one of the most consistent Thai places in town! Quick delivery, food always flavorful and satisfying. Last Saturday we placed an order for yellow curry, green curry, and crab rangoon. All arrived shockingly piping hot and with a very generous side of rice. The crab wontons were super crispy -- I think they must use a different type of wonton wrapper than other restaurants. It reminded me of a spring roll rather than an egg roll texture. Delicious depth of flavor in the curries, and generous portions of chicken in both. Certainly enough food for two meals each but we went for the whole order with extremely full bellies for the rest of the night. Unfortunately we vacuumed it all down before I remembered to take photos as proof, but it was an excellent meal! We'll be ordering again. read more

I really liked this place I ordered there from Uber eats about 10 times. My tenth time will be my last. As I was eating I noticed MOLD on the peppers in my green curry. No way, never again. I was so furious, I downloaded Yelp just to leave this review because that is unacceptable restaurant practices. As someone who works in a restaurant I was appalled. I recommend if you do order here to triple check your food isn't moldy. Or just don't order here. read more
