Simply put, this is my go-to for Thai food. I'm a huge fan of spicy food (literally, I fit right in when I went to South Korea), so naturally Thai cuisine calls to me. I've had Thai in quite a few establishments in many cities, but when it comes down to it this is my place. The atmosphere is fantastic and very much carrying an authentic feel, not to mention the servers are extremely kind. The menu boasts a wide variety of dishes with excellent customization - as a vegan, I have no trouble whatsoever finding dishes to enjoy here. Most of the choices are full of vegetables anyway, all with the option to have tofu in place of meat. They also can deliver pretty well when I request my food "extra spicy," which is both a relief and a point of excitement. I find it strange that a Thai place is the hotel restaurant (in the hotel right off Washtenaw and 23) but it makes parking sure easy! Come and give it a chance. read more

I've been here several times mostly for carry-out but also to sit down and the food is pretty consistently really good. There have been one or two times when it wasn't as good as in the past but like I said, more times that not, it definitely hits the spot. Yes, the location is the not the nicest but once you get past that, the food is just good. I love the lunch specials. They're a great value for the price. I love that you get a spring roll with dipping sauce, pad thai, and steamed rice. My go-to is the Spicy Basil Leaves because it's just that good. Beware of your spice level because it can be so spicy you'll shed a couple of tears. The green curry is also good. Based on the recommendation of a friend, I tried the Crispy Roast Pork. It was flavorful but also seemed a little fatty so for this reason, I probably wouldn't order it again. The last time I went, I had the desserts. The mango sticky rice was good but wasn't my favorite. I really enjoyed the fried ice cream and the blueberry rolls. Those were delish! Some solid Thai food. Took some points off for the overall sketchiness of the outside and the water-damaged ceiling, but otherwise, actually a pretty good experience. We ordered: red curry, green curry with chicken, and pad Thai with chicken. The green curry was pretty darn tasty, with just the right amount of spice. The pad Thai (orange probably bc of the spice, btw) was pretty tasty too, from what I could gather from my stolen bites. The green curry was definitely the winner though, I think. I ordered takeout for my sister's family and I the week she gave birth. We were trying lots of local places and she said they'd had food from here before and it was pretty good. We are from Seattle and have traveled internationally growing up, so we've eaten a loooot of good Thai food. There were a lot of your standard Americanized Thai dishes and a few more authentic ones, which was nice to see. The crab Rangoons are some of my favorite things in life and they did not disappoint! I wasn't a huge fan of their pad Thai but my sister loves it. I got the Thai volcano (not super authentic, I know) but I was excited! It was okay, the shrimp were not super crispy but the portion was very generous. I wanted to add 3 Thai teas to the order but forgot my wallet. Stopped by Siam Square with my sister and my nephews for lunch.... they are hidden inside a hotel by Washtenaw Ave..... ignore the hotel as you might have second thoughts about going to the restaurant, but once you enter, you are transported to a different place. We got seated and reviewed the menu... first things to order was fresh spring rolls... we went with pad thai with shrimp, peanut chicken, and couple of other dishes that I cannot remember.... The spring roll was okay... but my favorite dish there was the pad thai... their pad thai is made with tomato sauce; unlike the other places where they made it white. I don't know what it is, but I just love the pad thai with tomato sauce. The service was good. I give 3.5 stars for my overall experience here. Hope to return soon. read more

My friends and I were in search of something different. Visiting Thailand several times, I can say that we all enjoy Thai food and decided to give Siam Square a chance. At first glance, the restaurant is attached to the outside of a one star hotel (I'm sure it was a grand hotel in the 60's). Don't let this fool you. I would highly recommend you to simply go ahead and venture inside for a closer look. A bit hesitant on the outside, we went ahead inside. We were promptly greeted and seated in a wonderfully styled Thai restaurant. Looking around the room, you could feel like you were in Thailand. We were promptly waited on. A young gentleman was incredibly prompt and polite. We ordered many items such as: the appetizer sampler, Panang curry, pineapple fried rice, duck, and for dessert we tried the sticky rice and mango. The appetizer sampler, consisting of shrimp roll, vegetable roll, karree puff, fried wonton, fried tofu was an excellent way to begin our meal. If you have to pick just one of these to order as an appetizer, please try the karree puff. This was so delicious, you have to try. The }anang curry dishes, one with chicken, the other with tofu were superb. The Panang curry was perfect with the coconut juice. The duck was prepared perfectly. The pineapple fried rice was delightful and you could almost eat this for a dessert. Least but not least, the dessert which was sticky rice and mango. The mango was on the border of sweet and tart, but together with the sticky rice and milk, it was to die for. I only wish I had ordered another to take home. If you're looking for something a little out of the ordinary, I would wholeheartedly suggest you to try Siam Square. Forget the building it's attached to, and head inside and enjoy a delicious Thai meal, and don't forget the sticky rice and mango dessert. read more

There are so many dishes here that is so good. A must order is M17 Pork Basil! Fried Rice Basil with a fried egg is absolutely delicious. If you are a noodle fan, Siam Noodle (beef with rice noodles in a slow simmer broth) and Siam Pad Thai are excellent choices too. read more

So I tried this place and honestly the flavor was really good but the texture was so off I couldn't for it. A decent rating. I ordered Panang Beef and the curry was watery. It was basically the same viscosity as my beer. Curry is meant to be thicker maybe not poor side thick but it's absolutely suppose to have more to it than water. Flavor was good but again the dish wasn't great. M Grub hub took a while but the food was still warm/hot and didn't need to be heated up. Three stars for this place because of its terrible service. There were no other party in the restaurant when we were there. Still we never get an extra glass of water. We waited for the second bowl of rice for about ever . The waitress , who was the only one serving that time was talking on phone . It was her personal call. She was chatting on ph when I asked for another bowl of rice . She never came to our table , never asked how was the food, and never offered us water. I am really disappointed. Surprisingly the food was really good. The pricing of the food and the serving and the taste all are really good. We ordered the Penang curry chicken and house special boneless duck with vegetables. Both the dishes were very well made. The decor was decent . The cutlery needs some attention . The napkins need to go for sure . They are worn out. This place has plenty of free parking space . I had this place through Grubhub, so I can't speak on the inside or the service, but this set the tempo for me and Thai food as this place was my first foray into Thai food. For my meal I went with the chicken fried rice (very very good but not really spicy and for $12 I did get a lot but around the same amount Tuptim Thai gives for their lunch meals) and the chicken Wings (also excellent and on point, like the sweet n sour sauce that comes with it, but they do give 6 for $7). Out of the 2 Thai places I had in the area, this to me is the better one of the two, have to visit this place in the future in person. read more

It was just bad food. The customer service was speedy and the man was friendly enough but, the food was just terrible. I was so excited to try them because, the pictures posted here look good and they have pretty good reviews, overall. I ordered the Siam Sampler (fried wontons, spring rolls, karee puff, golden shrimp, and fried tofu) and the Siam Peanut Noodles. The oil in the fryers is in desperate need of being changed. If the oil is old then that flavor will seep into all the food. Old oil also doesn't fry as efficiently and therefore a lot of oil seeps into the food. All the pieces in the appetizer were overly oily and tasted like old oil. This old oil flavor spoiled the flavor of all the pieces in the appetizer. The shrimp in the golden shrimp was incredibly chewy. The filling for the wontons had no flavor and neither did the filling for the karee puff. Also, they just used store bought wontons. The noodles in the main dish were so stuck together and overcooked that I could lift them up with my fork in one gigantic solid mass. The peanut sauce was ONLY sweet with no spice or vinegar to compliment or offset the sweetness. The chicken meat was tough and not flavorful. There was no garnish and the general appearance of the dish was unappetizing as it was a lump of noodles with brown shiny sauce on top. It would have looked much more appetizing with some fresh green herb sprinkled over it.....one eats with their eyes first. Lastly, for some strange reason, on the bottom of the noodle dish were pieces of iceberg lettuce. So when you open the dish of noodles, your nose is greeted with the smell of hot lettuce....not appetizing or expected. It was just bad.....really bad food. Just an incredible waste of $22. Also, the parking lot and hotel it is attached too, looks very scary. I don't know what it is but I would never go there at night by myself. Be wary if you do. read more

Siam Square is THE best Thai restaurant I have ever been to (it has also been ranked one of the top 100 in the US)! Now I know what you're thinking, "Come on! It's in the bottom of a very shady looking hotel/motel offering weekly specials with a pool that is consistently empty of water and a facade that hasn't seen an update since the Reagan administration. If I eat here I will probably catch syphilis and might wake up in a bathtub full of ice somewhere!" BUT...this is so NOT the case! This place is truly a hidden gem and quite possible the only reason this hotel hasn't been knocked down. Walking into the restaurant you are quickly transported to beautiful Thailand. The decor is great (perhaps a bit kitschy but still quite lovely). The large room is covered in elaborately carved wooden partitions and sculptures. Colorful fabrics are draped across the tables. My favorite part of the place: private semi-enclosed booths with lovely circle cut-out entrances! Once you've been awed by the setup, cozy up in your private cave-like booth for a romantic dinner that won't disappoint! The menu is large, so get ready. While I have never had anything bad here, I'm gonna list off a few of my favorites: The Drinks: Thai iced tea please! Creamy and smooth with a nice balance of cream to tea. Plus it is served in a lovely glass. Apps- Karee puff: lightly fried pastry filled with potatoes and spices (much like a samosa but better!) Thai spring roll with shrimp: light rice paper wrap, large shrimp, and delicious crispy veg Soups- Tom yum and tom kahr (the difference primarily being the addition of coconut milk in the broth) are both flavorful and not too salty, plus if you order the large portion (more than enough to share for 4!) it comes out in a lovely ring-shaped metal serving bowl with a candle to keep it hot and soft blue flames lapping up the middle! The Curries- They are all delicious! Perfect balance of veg, meat/seafood/tofu, and curry broth! I cannot choose a favorite. Main Dishes: Anything with the spicy basil. Just trust me. They do it right! The Sweets: Mango with sticky rice: when in season you have to try it. It's light and refreshing, yet still satisfies that sweet tooth. Black cherry sticky rice: another favorite similar to a rice pudding or porridge but a beautiful wine color. On top of everything the staff is always friendly and the food comes out quick! Siam Square is definitely my favorite Thai restaurant in Ann Arbor. I know, I know, a lot of people are Tup-Tim fans, but I just love Siam Square. If you can get past the somewhat creepy hotel that this restaurant lives in, you will find a gem. The restaurant is nicely divided into smaller sections, so it feels intimate. I have never had a problem getting a table, even with a large group. It's a great find for busy football Saturdays, graduation weekend, etc. There are several wooden booths that look like an appealing, cozy place to sit. However, the acoustics are such that they are rather noisy and echo-y, especially if there are other parties sitting behind/in front of your booth. As a vegetarian I love the menu at Siam Square because all menus items are priced and can be ordered with Tofu or extra vegetables instead of a meat. As other reviewers have noted, the dishes at Siam Square are SPICY. Mild to them is a medium-hot anywhere else. Be sure to request "VERY, VERY MILD" if you are heat-sensitive. The dish I order every time, and which wins rave reviews of everyone I drag to eat with me, is the Siam Square Spicy Basil with Tofu (ordered mild). The brown sauce is thick and flavorful, the dish is filled with brocolli, carrots, and peppers, and the basil adds a fabulous touch. Bottom Line: A superb find, off the beaten path. Been looking for a new Thai takeout place in Ann Arbor after several disappointing dishes from the omnipresent option. Heard good things about Siam Square and wasn't disappointed. I ordered the Siam Pad Thai with tofu. Delicious! Perfect spice level, not overbearing the flavors, but with just enough kick. The portions are generous, so I had enough leftover for lunch the next day. (Perhaps my favorite part of Thai takeout.) Also got the spring rolls appetizer, which were light and crispy. The counter service was friendly and quick. The lobby was so well decorated, I want to come back and sit down for a meal sometime and see the entire interior. This place is a great surprise. I've been here over a dozen times now, super nice staff, delicious food, generous proportions. My main comparison is Tuptim, down the street. I think the portion sizes are larger here, and the decorative aspects of the restaurant are both better and worse (while they have a plethora of beautiful art all over, and lovely cubbyhole dinning areas, much of the restaurant feels really outdated and the only bathroom access is through the hotel). I think I probably prefer this place, but it's really a toss up. Either way, there is some delicious food to be had here, so try it out! read more

I've never written a bad review, so the fact that I am tells you how incredibly bad the food was. The Siam Pad Thai had no fresh vegetables and was basically just beige, overcooked, greasy noodles. They seemed day old or even older. Spring rolls had hardly any filling and it was over cooked cabbage.. again, no fresh vegetables. Mango sticky rice was so bad it was truly shocking that this restaurant thinks they can treat their customers this way. We placed a delivery order here while staying at a local hotel. We ordered Chicken Pad Thai, Pad Pot Sien, as well as Crab Rangoon and Satay Gai for appetizers. The delivery was polite and on time by Grubhub. However, the order was far from correct. The Pad Thai had no sign of the shredded carrots pictured, and was totally missing the crushed peanuts. Bean sprouts were very scarce. The Pad Pot Sien was advertised as coming with rice, but was on a pile of what I assume were glass noodles. My husband was quite unhappy with those. The Crab Rangoon had a good filling, but the outer shell seemed dry and hard. The Satay Gai was such a disappointment, as the pieces of chicken were small, rubbery (I worried they weren't cooked long enough), and ice cold. Not room temp, or lukewarm, but ICE COLD. I'm pretty sure this isn't intended as a cold appetizer. Total let down, on an already long day spent on medical care. We'll never waste our money on this again. read more
