We stopped here on a whim, tired of looking for places to eat and we saw a street parking spot open up right in front of this restaurant so it seemed like fate. Walked in and were seated very quickly at the table of our choice - we got a two person table right by the windo, which was really nice. I ordered the pad thai noodle lunch special with duck for $15 - such a great price for the fresh and tasty duck and noodles. I love that everything was separated on the plate - it makes everything taste so much better - like the bean sprouts were crisp and fresh being separated instead of soggy mixed in with the noodles like a lot of other places do it - and the noodles, omg the taste of the noodles and whatever sauce they were cooked in were amazing - plus the duck was perfectly cooked, a generous portion, and complimented the taste of noodles so well. I'm pretty sure our waiter was the owner of the restaurant, and he was just the kindest to us and quickly brought out our food and drinks. The tables were nicely spaced, especially the one we sat at, and the inside was picturesque and well set up. The bathroom was also kept clean, which is always appreciated. We were looking for Thai food and came across this place on Yelp. Inside, the restaurant is nicely decorated with Thai artifacts. There's a pic of Clint Eastwood who dined here, what looks like over 20 yrs ago. I ordered a Thai iced tea and it was delicious , $3. We started with the Tom Yum soup bowl, $18. It had at least 6 prawns, lots of sliced mushrooms and nice sour taste. The chicken curry was very watery, like a thin soup. It was OK. The pork Pad Thai had nice noodles which tasted better than the pork meat. The waiter was very nice and service was attentive. We had a Tom Kah Kai (spicy coconut soup with chicken), which was heavy on the mushrooms, which I liked. The broth tasted good, but simple, and the chicken was dry. We also had a pineapple curry with duck. The duck was good, and there was a LOT of pineapple, but it tasted like it came out of a can, and I was disappointed there were zero other vegetables. So that was a little bit of a let-down. The rice was fragrant jasmine, and very nice and fluffy. We ordered everything mild, and it still had flavor, which was good. What a great find! This place has been here almost 40 years and there were so many people that were there tonight that were regulars. They were on a first name basis with the owner. Some people have been coming here for 35+ years. I'm not sure what their secret is but I can tell you the food was PHENOMENAL!! We ordered the Hawaiian fried rice. It was not greasy and was seasoned perfectly. It had chicken, cashews and shrimp. My wife ordered the eggplant (braised) with chicken. The sauce was probably the best sauce we've tasted. Ale also had tofu spring rolls which were rolled tightly (just the way I like it). Ingredients were fresh. The peanut sauce and sweet chili sauce added another level of taste. Siamese Bay is one of the local gems of Monterey. The owner has been there for a long time. My first must have been over 6 years ago and the food was amazing. This year, we decided to visit again, and the food was still amazing. Our server was honest and told us what most people would prefer rather than picking the most expensive dish as the best one. In total, there were five of us we shared several dishes, which I suggest you do as well when you visit. I have long desired to have some Tom Yum Kai soup and they had the best I have had in a long time. We also love Larb Nur. They do not have it, but their Larb Kai was amazing. We also had the Drunken Noodles, Green Curry, Cashew Nuts with Chicken, Eggplant with Pork, and Pad See-ew with pork, all tasted delicious. The restaurant is old because, again, it is a gem. We searched for a Thai place on the way back from a day of sight-seeing and so glad we found this place. It was so quaint and charming . The food was amazing, not over-powered by sauces like so many Thai places we have been. I had the Ginger with onions, mushrooms and garlic and steamed rice and my husband combined 2 appetizers for his meal- dumplings and chicken satay and all of our food was incredible. No one was there to greet us and there was no seat yourself sign, so it was awkward and confusing for everyone who came in. We had pad see ew and drunken noodles. The pad see ew was very bland. There was one bite that tasted like it had garlic and it was the best bite of the whole dish. The broccoli it came with tasted steamed instead of stir fried, so it had almost no flavor. The redeeming quality is that the noodles weren't oily. My husband said his drunken noodles were pretty good, but not the best. He's an easy guy to please. My absolute favorite Thai restaurant!! I've been a customer for over 23 years and the food is consistently amazing.

We came in for lunch, hoping for some good Thai food. My diet is very limited due to health reasons, so I looked up the menu and knew what I wanted; my husband is a fan of Thai and knows what he likes. My husband starts to order, and is immediately told that they're out of that item. To give him more time to choose something else, I start my order, only to be told that they're out of spinach. Both of us disappointed now, we ordered mussels to share. They came quickly, but while the broth was good, the mussels had an odd chewy texture (a little rubbery) and not much flavor. That was it for us; we paid and left, both still hungry. The restaurant is attractive, but a place that serves food can't survive on ambience alone. read more
