A couple weeks ago we joined some friends here following services to enjoy a meal, perhaps a drink or two and some fellowship. There was nothing memorable about the food and the service was horrible. We couldn't get enough menus for us all to look at, requested water never came, and our waitress was not at all welcoming. 9/6/17: At Sidestreet tonight for the steak special with my daughter. Everything was fine until a roach (God yes) started crawling up the wall beside her. We brought it to, what we now know was the managers attention and he literally reached over our table and grabbed the roach off the wall with his hands. Yes, I'm shocked. Do you even think he apologized? Nope. Do you think he corrected my ticket? Nope. An apology or some lame excuse about the place being recently sprayed would have helped, but I refuse to ever step foot in their again. read more

Went for brews. No list.. Waiter just said "well what do you want and I'll tell you if we have it". Everything we asked for she had to go check and came back with a no... We settled for basic everyday beers then switched to cocktails. They were good and we ended that night with tequila samples the resturaunt was checking out. I love this little bar! The inside is nice, and they have a great patio. It's right off the square behind the Overton Square garage, so the atmosphere is nice. When a band is playing on Thursdays you have live music in ear shot. I had the mint chocolate martini, red headed bitch, and the death by chocolate (I think I have all those names right), and they were all *delicious*. My friend and I got the artichoke dip to share, and it was so good. It comes with little crostinis so it's a nice crunch texture with warm dip. I had bacon wrapped chicken with mashed potatoes. My mouth is watering thinking about it. Really wanting to take advantage of their martini specials they have during the week (can't remember what day, just that they had a sign at each table). The food is pretty okay. Their happy hour, like so many other places, is selective as to what is included, and they will catch you if you are not careful and very specific. If you think "well drinks" covers the well gin martini, guess again. The manager when I went there last night acted like he could care less when asked about that. Plenty of other, nicer, newer places in Overton Square. Go someplace else. read more

This was my first time dining at Side Street Grill I sat on the patio. The women's restroom was filthy and the sink was clogged. It took forever for a waitress to address us! I ordered from the drink menu a libation which was served in a miniature martini glass, smh. The Side Street Grill is one of best (and underrated) restaurants in Memphis. The quality of the food, whether it's steaks, pasta, sandwiches or desserts, is superb. It's great place to dine, especially late at night when most of the city's other restaurants are closed. In addition to the food, the social atmosphere is great, for I usually meet a lot of interesting people there. The marinated rib eye steak is one of the best steaks I've had in Memphis. The steak is well-seasoned and is so tasty that steak sauce isn't needed, in my opinion. Goes great with either creamed spinach or mashed potatoes. Also, the pasta dishes are excellent. Among those, my favorites are the the Cajun Pasta and the Shrimp Alfredo. My only complaint about the Shrimp Alfredo is that it is too watery (I always wear a bib when I eat it). However, I still enjoy it and for a non-Italian restaurant, it is an excellent place to get pasta. As for other dishes, my favorites are the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich and the Fried Cheesecake. The Philly is made with big chunks of steak combined with red and green peppers, onions (which I tend to do without) and of course, cheese. Compared to places like Lenny's, whose cheesesteak sandwiches are actually hoagies, this sandwich, despite the fact that the meat is chopped instead of sliced, is the real deal. Whenever I eat the Fried Cheesecake, which comes in rolls of cheese wrapped around fried dough coated with either chocolate, caramel and strawberry (I might be wrong about the last favor). I eat the caramel version with a glass of Bailey's Irish Cream that I use to dip the cheesecake in. This dessert is such a favorite of mine that I get it even when I've had dinner at another restaurant. Several months ago, the Side Street Grill had burned down. The restaurant is on the verge of being rebuilt and should re-open soon. I am anxious for this, because it is one of my favorite restaurants that I sorely miss. I wish the place the best of luck and hope to dine there again soon. NOTE: Since writing this review, Side Street Grill has re-opened and is better than ever! read more

Very disappointed. Had a reservation for 15 today at 4 that was scheduled last Saturday. The manager called to confirm today at 1. At 3:30 we were told that they had a private party until 5 today and that our reservation was canceled. Will not go to this location again and I strongly urge you to avoid. The service was slow last Saturday to boot so we're probably better off at Jack Magoos. read more

Excellent food - had the buffalo chicken dip and didn't really have room for a meal but ordered the steak medallions. Both were well flavored and robust. Had a Hawaii 3-0 martini, not really a martini drinker but this one was sweet and I ordered two. Only down side is the volume- it was VERY loud. People constantly yelling over one another. read more

Nice little place with quiet, intimate setting. Mostly couples. Quaint bar. Good service. Food is pretty good. We just ate appetizers. Jerk chicken fingers were tasty, without being hot. The avocado dip was pretty standard fare, if you know my expression. Drinks were good and reasonably priced. Used to be one of my favorite places for casual good food when I lived in Memphis. I tried it tonight and WOW has it changed. The food was awful. I mean absolutely terrible. Everything from the appetizers to the entrees. Everything was way over salted and the parmesan crusted tilapia that I used to love came out deep fried and tasted like it had been fried with chicken. I literally had one bite and couldn't stomach any more. The Greek pasta sounded delicious on the menu but I've had Lean Cuisine with more flavor. The service was mediocre at best although our server was very sweet. I hope tonight was an off night for them because if not I'm afraid that one of my favorite Memphis spots will be gone the next time I visit. read more

The place has great atmosphere. I went on a Tuesday evening. Relatively quiet. It was HOTT as a firecracker outside, so my party and I chose to sit indoors. Service was good. Pleasant waitress, attentive. I ordered from the bar, Chardonnay, my drink of choice. I ordered the Chicken Nachos as my entrée. My plate came quickly. I must say, I ordered the Nachos because it is something I would not order (typically) at any restaurant. The food was rather bland. Basically, pulled chicken covered in a Queso sauce scattered over tortillas with tomatoes, scallions. The chicken had (absolutely) no flavor to speak of. It tasted as if it had been poached without benefit of salt or pepper or any additional spices. It might have been poached in its own broth. When one orders Nachos, one expects some level of added spice or something that would give the dish some pizzazz... there was none. The only heat was that of the weather and the jalapenos served along side my nacho dish. It was my first visit to Memphis in 15years...and my first visit to Side Street Grill. Both were rather disappointing. I'm returning in a few weeks, maybe, I'll give Side Street another go. read more

A small cafe with quaint seating in the front was packed on Saturday night around 11-ish pm. The seating inside was almost at full capacity but was such a disappointment because it was loud and hot! We should have tried to sit outside because it was cooler and quieter. Decor: outdated yellow walls with a few small black and white photo on the walls of old Hollywood starlets, pinstriped curtains, outdated, mismatched bookshelves behind the bar with maroon fabric (about 2ft long) hanging from the ceiling that marked off the bar area - it reminded me of a hospital curtain that slides on a metal railing (bizarre). The vents on the ceiling were so filthy - They were covered with dark oily or furry gunk! The lighting was bright, so I definitely noticed. Service: Every waitresses hustled around quickly but none of them smiled or looked friendly or dressed professional, most wore jeans, shorts and a t-shirt or tank. We seated ourselves and ordered within five minutes of seating, but then waited at least 30 minutes for the food. Our waitress slammed our dishes and utensils down on the table every time she whirled by to the kitchen, then disappeared for a long time. Another waitress informed us they were out of a food item, so we're re-ordered. Food: I ordered the smoked chicken nachos and BF ordered steak kabobs but they were out of steak and out of baked potatoes, so he opted for portobello chicken with sweet potato fries and a side salad. Chips were ordinary with liquid cheese drenching the layers but then there was some sweet, hot spice underneath (I think It was buffalo sauce). Chicken pieces were small and unremarkable, sour cream and jalapeños on the side. The underlying flavor was so sweet and spicy that I couldn't continue eating. BF's salad had torn lettuce, two large quarters of tomato on either side with three of the thickest slices of red onions I've seen on a salad. The portobello was very sweet and sour (balsamic?) and the chicken was ok. The sweet potato fries were the best thing and were sprinkled with cinnamon. We didn't have Martinis, but maybe we should have so we could forget about this place... Disappointing. read more

A friend of mine suggested Side Street on a recent visit to Memphis. I initially thought this would be a great idea since I was enjoying the warm climate and this little place had outdoor seating (I even overlooked the fact that they were just cheap plastic chairs - likely from Wal-Mart.) The service was horrible beyond belief! I waited 25 minutes for a glass of wine and a Corona, which I receive only after inquiring about noone coming to take my order. After finishing our drinks, no one had come to take my order still. This place is a poor representation of what the south has to offer. Additionally, It appeared that the staff was much slower to wait on people of color. read more

I've been going to Side Street since it was a chill dive bar. After it burned town and they did renovations it did become a bit more classy but it's still the bar I loved. Side Street is my Favorite restaurant in town! It has that local flavor that you just can't find in a chain restaurant! Food is excellent, and they serve until late hours! It is a perfect place for me and my husband to go, have a great meal and enjoy a few drinks. The atmosphere is laid-back and the service is friendly and fast! I was able to make it to their new Sunday brunch....it was by far the best brunch I've ever had! Smore waffles, cuban omelets, steak eggs benedict...too many choices to eat all in one setting! It's been a while since Side Street has been reviewed, so I thought I'd chime in. I've only ever been in the much darker and more intimate Red Bar side and on the expansive patio in the summer. It's sort of become our end-of-the-night go-to bar when I'm out with my girlfriend's friends, who (unlike me) generally prefer something a little nicer than a dive bar. Service has generally been friendly and quick. The brie appetizer is a huge favorite, and the wings are pretty tasty, too. It's a good place to wrap up a date or a late night on the town - definitely my favorite bar/restaurant in the Overton Square area. read more

They have a new menu since reopening, and we've tried several of the new dishes. Hubby's favorite is the vegetable skewers. I loved the grilled cordon bleu. Went tonight with family. Ordered the chicken cordon blue and knew something was wrong when they sat it in front of me. It literally smelled like poop. Took a small bite thinking maybe it was just me, nope taster literally like poop. Like literally. How did no one notice this smell when cooking it or serving it? Our server came and took the plate after I explained and agreed it was bad, said the kitchen staff was dissecting to find the problem. Ended up getting salmon which was delicious. I thought it was strange that we never heard from a manager or anything. Probably won't be returning. It was muggy in the restaurant and flies everywhere as well. read more

Love Side Street! I already loved it, but decided to try something new Friday night. I just turned 40 two weeks ago & totally forgot that my license was expired. After being turned away (&completely offended) by Local Pub around the corner, it was a welcome relief to go to a friendly, familiar place. The food was great- as always. Our waiter was super sweet. Everyone we encountered made us feel glad we were there & seemed equally glad to be there. Next time I won't waste my time trying something new. I will go back to where I know they appreciate my business. Thank you Side Street!!! (We didn't drink so there was no need to show our id and they were perfectly fine that we drank water and had desserts.) My wife's and my favorite place to be when we lived in Memphis. A business trip took us back. It's been twleve years but the owner still remebered us. Our guests and the waitress was shocked when he hugged our necks and said it was 2000 when we were last there. The reviews stated louder, but that was folks just enjoying the night. Our waitress was perfect, the bartender was generous with the gin, and the food was as good as we remembered. We promised we'd be back in a few months because it's such a special place. Not a place for kids, but adults of any age will find this martini bar the place to be. Side Street is five star to us! read more

Can't understand the poor review. The food is spectacular, especially the Salmon Club. My husband loves the Cuban. We have had great steaks and pasta there. I do feel the drinks are a bit pricey. You can't beat the friendly staff and attentive service. When the weather isn't 100+ in Memphis the patio is the place to be. read more
