Always love visiting Sideboard (and it seems like everyone else does too!) It's always crowded when I come - especially on weekends, but always a perfect way to start my Sunday. Such a cute little place with a small indoor seating area, but a patio in both the front and back. Very family and dog friendly :) I got the avocado toast and it was massive! I'm not sure how something so simple can be so delicious. It's more on the citrusy side and pairs so well will the sweet tomatoes. I'm looking forward to my next visit for this specifically! Lol. I came here thinking they served matcha lattes (they don't, which is the only downside since I don't drink coffee) but the toast definitely made up for it! I've always enjoyed coming to Sideboard, but after my experience this weekend, I don't see myself returning.. I brought my sister here, excited to share one of my favorite local spots, but what followed was an unreasonably unpleasant encounter. We sat at an open table after confirming with another guest that it was okay to do so. A few minutes later, a couple approached us aggressively, claiming they had "reserved" the table by placing new plates there--though there was nothing there when we sat down. Instead of handling the situation with kindness, they made accusations and demanded we move, despite plenty of other seating options. What made the situation worse was when a staff member later approached us, seemingly siding with the couple, subtly pressuring us to leave--even after we explained that no personal belongings were at the table. It felt like an unfair and unnecessary confrontation, creating an unwelcoming environment. Sideboard has great food, but the lack of hospitality and professionalism in handling this situation left a sour taste. I wouldn't recommend a place that prioritizes appeasing rude customers over creating a welcoming atmosphere for everyone. The food was good, but the service was very disrespectful! My son and I arrived around 3 pm (not during rush hour). The food came very quickly, but I received my coffee 30 minutes later. Besides the food, I had ordered a latte and waited for 20 minutes but the coffee had not arrived. I was worried they had forgotten mine, so I went and asked very politely and explained that I was in a hurry to go somewhere else. Five minutes later, the person making the coffee went out of the coffee station to clean up the tables, but when he passed my table, he specifically gave me a "look " that made me very uncomfortable. Another few minutes later, I finally got my latte but without any latte art. So, I went on Yelp just to look at people's posts, and I saw all the posts with beautiful art in their orders, except mine! I always come here for a nice brunch or dinner. It's self seated and I usually go for an outdoor seat for the vibes. My favorite dish here is the Mac and cheese which everyone should try at least once. Their beignets weren't that good and the service is pretty consistent. Our friends who live in Danville recommended this restaurant. We stopped by for lunch on a Wednesday during the thanksgiving week after hiking the nearby regional park. You have to stand in line to order your food and they have both a breakfast and and an all day menu. I've been to Sideboard four times and have always enjoyed their food & exceptional friendly service! I usually have their tasty avocado toast, which comes on two slices of thick, toasted sourdough with generous amounts of avocado & arugula & a light amount of dressing. My friend always buys me their English muffins to take home because they are that good. Their other pastries & baked goods also look good! There is ample covered, pleasant, outdoor seating (with a waterfall!), and nice, rustic seating indoor too. The only "problem" with Sideboard is that it's popular & often crowded, so it takes a little patience - and it's worth the wait! read more

I had Sideboard on my to-try list for a while now, but there was never an appropriate time to go until today. And woo wee, this spot was solid. Ordering had to be done at the counter first, and whatever tables are open for selection, you can choose to sit wherever. We were a little worried about finding a table because there was a line out the door for ordering, but there was plenty of space both indoors and outdoors. Big selection of both small and big tables as well. For our table, we got 1) Half Bucket of Fried Chicken, 2) Brussel Sprouts, and 3) Apple Spiced Muffin (GF) to share. For my entree I ended up going with the Fiesta Bowl and a Housemade Chai Latte w/ Oat milk. For how busy the restaurant is, it didn't take too long for our orders to come. Their lattes are huge. It's literally a bowl, no handles, but it was great. Moderately spiced, and not too sweet. Perfect for the day after a storm. Brussel sprouts came next and these were amazing! I love brussel sprouts, so this was a nice side dish. They were fried just until the outer most leaves were crispy golden. And the Lemon Aioli it came with complemented it well. As for my entree, it was a lot bigger than I thought! They're so generous with their portions! The Fiesta bowl comes with Kale, Avocado, Black Beans, White Beans, Pepitas, Baby Tomatoes, Brown Rice, Quinoa, and a Jalapeño Cilantro Vinaigrette. There's a good mix of all the ingredients in there. So much that I can split this into two meals because it's light, but can be quite filling from all the beans and carbs. The kale was pretty fresh. And I enjoyed the contrast of all the softer carbs ingredients with some occasional crunch of the pepitas. The sauce gets more tangy as you go through the bowl, but I think that's why it's nice to have a drink or side dish to take away the tanginess if it gets too much. Last but not least, the Apple Spiced Muffin! I actually quite enjoyed it. When we cut into the muffin, it looked dry, but it actually wasn't when you bite into it. It's not to sweet, but it does come with a lot of spices. One distinct flavor is probably the cinnamon, so if you're not a fan, you probably won't like it. But for those of you who are, I'd recommend it! I personally didn't get to the fried chicken, nor did I really want a whole piece for myself, because of how full I was, but for the people in my group who did, they said it was delicious. The breading was well done, and the chicken was sooo juicy! All in all, our group really enjoyed our meal here and this might just be my new favorite brunch place around the area! Arugula side salad was ok. It's arugula and parm and a dressing. Thai chicken wings were good, I think this plus some rice would have been good. Note I didn't try the spicy peanuts The flatiron grilled sandwich had some good qualities, perfectly cooked steak. But it felt under seasoned and needing more chinichurri. The fried chicken sandwich was just underwhelming. No crunch for me, not enough sauce, not enough slaw or the other sauce. The one thing that we really liked was the herb sauce that we got with the fries. Overall, I fell like things were under seasoned and needed more sauce. So so good!! I ordered the chicken pot pie which is an autumn seasonal special and the pineapple ginger mint agua fresca. The agua fresca was refreshing and lovely. I loved the pot pie, it had chicken and mushrooms and gravy and a savory scone on top with cranberry sauce on the side. The savory scone pot pie combo was honestly kind of life changing and the fries I stole from another persons plate were life affirming. How it works if you order at the front then find seating in the back, tiled tables are very cute and there's a water feature! Sideboard takes this to a new level by having someone seat you after you've ordered to keep some level of sanity in the seating area. Before I get to the amazing food have to also mention that their breakfast menu is available till 2 PM that is really a big plus because it adds so many more great items to what you can choose from at lunchtime. It was SO hard to decide what to order there was probably doesn't things that I could've easily ordered and been very happy. So, between two of us we got the chicken salad sandwich, the mixed greens and they poached eggs on toasted levain bread. The greens were so fresh, the chicken salad was fresh and wealthy person to the bread with great ingredients and the extra poached perfectly and matched wonderfully with the bread. We really enjoyed the outdoor seating, with the heat lamps, it's all covered so even with the cloudy weather, we were super comfortable and were able to have our dog with us. The line to order was a bit long, but our food came out within 10ish minutes of ordering and the drinks even faster. The breakfast sandwich was amazing! The bread buns really made it for me, and it was very filling without being over the top. The chai was good, they make the chai in house, but it could have used a bit more spice. A beautiful find in Danville tucked in the corner. You have to walk through the entrance to get to the main door of the restaurant. Just so cozy. Went back to back twice. First for a friendship coffee date and it was amazing. They know how to make perfect cappuccino, served beautifully in designed cups and saucers. I was blown away by my foamy taste and the cup placed over the tropical bird dish. Service was great! Second time, tried their rose black tea with the breakfast pudding. The tea came perfectly balanced in a little tea pot with a timer. While I sipped my tea enjoying myself in the communal table at the back room, the food arrived fresh. The pudding tasted like a soufflé, so delicious and savory treat filled with asparagus, slight goat cheese and gave the flavors of Parmesan. As I savored every bite, along with some bits of the fresh greens and tomato salad, I was satiated. It was a day detour from a rough day from a gym session employee and Sideboard made it surprisingly the best. The staff is amazing. They have menus available by the door and you can walk up to the register to place your order, and it is self seating after that. Their lunch menu includes a range of salads, burgers and sandwiches. They also have a small bakery case that offers cakes, muffins, scones, etc.(they look super tasty). As well as a coffee bar that offers a variety of coffee and tea options. I should have written this review years ago. This is a cozy, casual family spot. I go here for coffee, dessert, lunch or dinner. I bring my kids, friends, coworkers and family. I love this place. Came in on a Sunday morning and just beat the crowds. We went with avocado toast, breakfast mac and cheese, and the bacon scramble, with an Americano, an ice tea, and a medium roast pour-over coffee. The avocado toast still remains the best version we have seen - lots of greens and the bread is really good. Breakfast mac is super as always. The current procedure is to order your food and then if you want to sit indoors, the cashier will show you to your table (you can just go to an outdoor table). I saw one person trying to take an indoor table without ordering and the staff trying to explain the procedures (it is on signs as well) but the customer left before ordering. The staff never signed up to enforce these rules and are doing the best they can. People should just follow the rules, even the no shoes, no shirt, no service rule! The only option for breakfast right now is avocado toast. I haven't tried a few of the other options like the enchiladas that are vegan on the menu. If you're ever in Danville, you NEED to try Sideboard. No questions asked. I've been to many brunch spots in the Alamo/Danville area, but none have measured up to Sideboard's delicious food and unique, kitschy ambiance. Today, I ordered the breakfast pudding which was simply divine. For real, I can't stress how amazing this pudding was. The frittata-esque dish was incredibly creamy yet light and was garnished with a heaping pile of what I believe is parmesan. The caramelized onions offered a nice sweetness to contrast the cheese and the mushrooms inside gave a pleasant umami flavor that rounded out this dish perfectly. I believe they also broil their pudding since the pudding's exterior has a cheesy crispy finish. If you couldn't tell already, I'm a HUGE fan of the pudding. In fact, I ate it three hours ago and I'm still thinking about it. My friend's brekkie sandwich also was delicious. Fun fact: Sideboard brands their sandwich buns which makes for a really fun Instagrammable photo! On a separate note, the service is great and the employees are extremely friendly.
