I love stopping by Sidecar Doughnuts! Too bad I can't add a 6th star to this review. Their staff are as equally lovely as their ambiance and doughnuts which never cease to impress and delight my tastebuds. I'm gluten free, so I don't always have a lot of options to choose from, but their gluten-free (friendly) doughnut of the week never disappoints. I got the banana bread latte, too, today - it's a perfect match with the chocolate vegan (and gf) doughnut. I've had sidecar donuts before and absolutely love them. I was excited to see that a new location was opening so close to home (Pasadena). I've been on their Instagram and have seen that they've been closing as early as 2pm due to them running out of donuts. To ensure I was there while they were fully stocked I woke up at 6:30am and got to the their location by 6:45am and there was already a small line. I was excited to try the new flavors they've been posting on their socials BUT unfortunately it didn't go as planned. Upon my arrival and after waiting a bit I was informed that we would not be able to order the donuts we wanted. We were only able to order what was put out. And despite it being early there wasn't much of a variety put out. I do understand that it's a new location and they are still learning and rolling with the punches but I'm so used to other locations allowing you to order donuts that haven't been put out yet and you'd just wait a little until the ones you wanted were ready. Bummed I didn't get to order my faves. Perhaps mentioning the above in their socials so other customers are aware before they show up in person. We just bought 2 vanilla glazed and one lemon flavored donut near closing, so it was slim pickings. I'm sure they are still working out the kinks, but after I ate a couple of bites of the vanilla bean, I realized the center was raw. I thought, maybe, there was filling in the middle which explained the moist/chewy center. But my husband ate the second one with no problems. Lemon glazed was delicious though. Have to update my review. While I LOVE these donuts, I can't really continue to eat them. I've been eating them consistently about once a month since I posted my last review. They were a fun treat to look forward to. The reason I won't keep going back is because the donuts lean towards undercooked. They are DELICIOUS but they are undercooked. The last time it was so bad that my stomach was in intense pain and I had to stay in bed for the rest of the day. This location just opened on last Thursday and got there around 9:40ish. There was a line but it moved fast and was ordering within 30 mins. Theres tables outside for customers to enjoy their donuts. There was a good selection of donuts and they allowed 6 donuts per group and the atomsphere was very clean both inside and out. While i was waiting in line they brought out some donut samples. I got 1 chocolate chip trailblazer, 2 huckleberry, 1 berry parfait and 2 butter and salt. My favorite flavors were the huckleberry and berry parfait one but all of them are so good. They also have a good variety of drinks as well. I do recommend to go early since they can sell out earlier than their actual closing time but its really good donuts. read more

Craving donuts this morning so we decided to check out Sidecar and see what the hype was all about. The donuts did not disappoint! Donuts: We purchased one of each flavor. All were fresh and delicious. The favorites were the Old Fashioned, Lemon, Butter & Salt, Saigon Cinnamon Crumb and Maple Bacon. The Huckleberry, Valentine's Celebration Cake, and Strawberry Rose were tasty but on the sweeter side. Vanilla Bean glaze tasted like an elevated Krispy Kreme donut. Sadly the chocolate options - Chocolate-A-Lot, Salted Malted Cookie Dough and Cookies and Creme were a miss. The chocolate flavor seemed diluted and weak - could be a recipe issue or a mixing/baking issue at this location, but whatever it is - they need work. Don't know how to describe it other than it looked like chocolate but didn't taste like it. Pricing: The donuts are pricey. For us, coming here would be a special treat and not a weekly or even monthly event. A dozen donuts (plus one free donut) with tip was about $65 - a dozen is $56 before tip. Sidecar will not replace our local donut shop. Customer service: The employees were friendly and greeted everyone as they entered. There was a line and a wait for some of the donut flavors but you could see that the staff was working diligently to service everyone as quickly as possible. Parking: The other reviewers are correct. Parking is tough! The shared lot with Howlin' Rays is crowded and not easy to maneuver. Cars get backed up and exiting is tough because of visibility issues. Your best bet is street parking. We went to Sidecar after Howlin' Rays opened for the day so earlier in the morning might be better for the lot. read more

I'll start by saying my fiancé and I do like the donuts here, but it's a shame I have to give Sidecar 3 stars because the last few times have left us feeling put off. One of the recent times my fiancé ordered a dozen donuts for pickup since we live pretty close by. She grabbed the donuts and came home. It wasn't until she was home that we realized they forgot one of the donuts. It was a bummer but it happens. The next time I placed an order for pickup after leaving the doctors office. It took me about 20ish minutes to get there so I was expecting my two coffees and donuts to be ready. When I got there nothing was ready, not my two drinks or donuts. Once I talked to a worker he quickly put my two drinks together, but then as he was giving them to me I noticed the foam we paid extra for was missing from one of the drinks. I mentioned it to the worker and he asked me which drink was which even though he just prepared them himself. On top of that the cinnamon roll donuts were still baking so I ended up waiting almost 40 minutes for it to be done. The worst part is that once I was home we noticed the center was still a bit raw. My friend that lives in the area recommended this spot and I really enjoyed it. I purchased a cold brew with oat milk and it was strong and refreshing. I ordered a huckleberry donut, a choc-o-lot donut and, by accident a Celebration cake donut (*I had asked for a cinnamon donut but the girl at the register misheard me). I figured I just wanted t try some new donuts so I didn't make a big deal about the mix up. I also didn't want them to throw it away. So ironically my favorite was the celebration donut. I'm a big fan of flavored sodas the strawberry cream soda was so yummy. Has a balance of bubbly and creamy taste, however as the drink gets watered down by the ice the carbonation reduces. It wasn't over powered by any sweetness so that was well balanced. It's made with fresh strawberries so that resembles in the drink not being as bright as it is on the board that it's being advertised. The lines aren't too long we waited less than 3 minutes to be attended. I also wasn't gonna get a donut but I couldn't leave without doing so as I tried the buckle berry sample it was so good. However I got the strawberry and it was yummy as well. The donuts are being freshly made and they aren't dry or overly sweet. Will definitely be returning to try other flavors out and forsure will get a strawberry cream soda again. There's a seating area inside but the outside is more spacious. Definitely more of a gourmet donut with top tier ingredients and it actually reminds me of my favorite donut shop on the west coast, Blue Star. Came here the other day. Got here around 8ish and there was a little line. Two people ahead of me and when I was next to order there was like 2-3 people behind me. There were 4 workers one rolling out the the dough and donuts, another behind the counter frying and glazing the donuts, one taking the orders and ringing up the customers and another making drinks. When I got there there was a variety of donuts, but there weren't many left, however they were continuously making fresh ones. When I walked through the door I was greeted with a welcome (from the guy rolling the dough and donuts). Then as I got up to the line to order I was greeted by a nice young smiling Asian girl. I got 4 donuts: butter and salt, chocolat (came out fresh), vanilla bean (came out fresh) and the cinnamon roll. I also downloaded their app to get the free donut and coffee. As the girl was ringing me up I asked if the free coffee works for the new drink they had, Irish cream latte and the girl said she tried it last time with another customer and it didn't go through, but maybe because it wasn't in the system yet. So she tried it and it didn't go through, so I just told her I'll get an americano. She then said she will try something else, she entered an americano with the Irish cream on top and system took the coupon. I thanked her and was glad the coupon worked. Then the guy frying the donuts (who did not look like he wanted to be there) came from behind the counter to put more donuts on display told her we do not do that. She told him that I wanted an americano and the Irish on top and he said no the Irish cream is not one of the free coffee drink. Like dude don't get your panties in a bunch, it was not a big deal and the coupon said enjoy a free drink, it did not say specialty/seasonal coffees were excluded. I gladly would've paid for the Irish cream on top if he was making such a big deal about it. And reading other Yelp reviews people were able to get matcha lattes and other drinks. Like dude it's free what do you expect. Anyways, I got my coffee, but not sure if the Irish cream was in there because it did not taste anything like Irish cream (not sure if it was suppose to have flavor or what not) it literally felt like I was just drinking a regular latte. However, the coffee was good. I thought the donuts were okay they all tasted the same with a slight flavor difference depending on which donut you got. I can say they were soft though. The new Pasadena Sidecar is officially open and keeping the same quality standard as their OG location. I dropped in to check it out, and yep, still elite donuts. Top pick is hands down the huckleberry. Tart, sweet, soft, it's everything you want in a donut. The butter & salt surprised me too, just the right amount of savory to balance the sweet. I visited this Sidecar location on a Sunday around 2 PM while fasting for Ramadan, hoping to pick up some donuts for a friend's Iftar. Unfortunately, many flavors were already sold out, and the line stretched out the door and wrapped around the building. When I asked an employee for an estimate on when the Celebration Cake donut would be available, he initially tried to help but then told me his manager said he wasn't allowed to give any estimates and could get fired for doing so. I definitely didn't want to put him in a tough spot, but it was frustrating not to have any idea of when (or if) certain donuts would be available. This wasn't my first visit since they opened, and every time I've come, they never seem to have much available. It's disappointing because I'm a fan of Sidecar, but this location still has some serious issues to work out. I might give it a few more months and hope they improve, but for now, it's been a letdown. read more
