Sunday Lunch at O'Neil's - Ticket #27 Our Sunday lunch at O'Neil's started promisingly but unfortunately fell short on service follow-through. We were seated quickly at 12:05, and our server promptly took our order and brought water, noting that our food would be "out right away." That seemed reasonable, as both items we ordered -- the corned beef and the turkey jack sandwich -- are typically straightforward and quick to prepare. However, the timing unfolded quite differently. By 12:20, one of our glasses was empty, and no straw had been provided despite an earlier request. When the server checked in, I asked again for a water refill and the straw; both were finally delivered, along with another assurance that our food was "coming right out." At 12:30 -- twenty-five minutes after ordering -- the server again repeated that phrase, only this time adding that "some things take longer than others," even though tables seated after us were already eating. Our meals finally arrived at 12:45 -- nearly forty minutes after ordering. To the restaurant's credit, both dishes were excellent: the corned beef was tender and juicy, and the turkey jack sandwich tasted freshly made and served hot. But while the kitchen clearly delivered on quality, the front-of-house experience did not match that same care. The repeated "right away" comments, the lack of proactive attention, and the absence of even a brief apology for the delay made the experience feel inattentive.O'Neil's has great food potential, but stronger time management and more genuine communication from servers would make a world of difference. read more

Maybe I was expecting something different. I thought it was an Irish pub... but it isn't. It's a restaurant. Not that a pub doesn't serve food, but it's not a pub and feels more like a heartless corporate pub too. Like an airport lounge. With a patio... a peaceful patio against the street... The stranded bartender alone behind the bar looks to you panicked, as you enter the restaurant area looking past the two and four tops to the bar stools. His frustration is almost palpable as I found a seat. He said something as he presented 3 different menus... wondering why he didn't great me and asked if I was there for dinner or happy hour? Here is the TLDR version of my complaint: This past weekend, when I sought to raise a point of law in a discussion with O'Niell's manager Diana Ortiz, she repeatedly accused me of lying, and her manner was profoundly and bizarrely mean-spirited and unprofessional. In hindsight, I see it for what it was: toxic, bullying behavior that has no place in a decent restaurant (or anywhere, really). I mailed my original complaint to the owner of O'Niell's, Ms. April O'Niell. I attach what fits here on Yelp below. However, since I had to mail it to the restaurant itself, I suspect that it may have been intercepted. This means my only recourse is to include it here in the hope that it will reach its intended recipient. (I'd laugh at the irony here, but it was too deeply upsetting for me to do anything other than shake my head in bewilderment.) --- Dear Ms. O'Niell, I am writing to bring to your attention an extremely disappointing experience I recently had at O'Niell's. The time was around 6pm. The date was today, July 12, 2026. The staff member involved was Ms. Diana Ortiz. I have been a customer for many years and have always enjoyed visiting your restaurant. I often have visited there with a particular group of friends (six is about the usual number), but I sometimes go there with fewer people. What happened to me today was, I must say, the most disturbing thing that I have experienced in at least a decade anywhere. I suppose I should be grateful for that, and actually I am, as what happened today was, in the grand scheme of things, relatively insignificant. I am wondering if a complaint is even warranted. I'll leave it to you to decide if this is worth your consideration. As I say, I've been going to O'Niell's, mostly for dinners but also just for drinks, for years. In fact, the first time I went to O'Niell's was way back about ten or eleven years ago, at your then-location on Central. I was sorry that you had to close that down, but I have to admit that I have been glad that you have kept your Juan Tabo restaurant open, as I live just up the street in [removed]. I am a retired university professor. I am nearly 60 years old. I am used to a calm and quiet and dignified life. I treat people with respect and expect the same in return. And I've never had any reason to complain about the top-rate service you provide at O'Niell's, before now. Earlier this evening, I was surprised by the way I was treated by one of your managers, the aforementioned Ms. Diana Ortiz. When I ordered an alcoholic beverage, the manager demanded to see my identification. I did not object to being asked for ID. I understand that O'Niell's is free to adopt a policy of carding every customer if that is your company's choice. The problem arose when I explained that my understanding was that New Mexico law does not require identification to be checked if a customer reasonably appears to be over 35 years of age. I most assuredly not only am over 35, I cannot possibly be taken, even the best of lighting, for someone under 50. 55, if I'm honest. Rather than explaining that O'Niell's has a stricter internal policy, the manager told me I was mistaken. She repeated that I was wrong three separate times and insisted that the law required her to card me. My hands shaking from shock at this person's behavior, I managed to find online the proof that she was in fact mistaken, that she was in fact accusing me three times of lying (what other word is there for it when you say something and someone persists in claiming you are wrong?). I quote what I told her: NMSA 1978, § 60-7B-2(C): "Except for deliveries of alcoholic beverages pursuant to Section 4 [60-6A-37 NMSA 1978] of this 2021 act, it is unnecessary to ask for an identity document if the person clearly looks older than thirty-five years of age." I was too upset by her behavior to remain. We simply had to leave. It was, for me, that panic-inducing. We ended up in another restaurant, I think it's fair to say. Later, I called O'Niell's simply to learn the manager's name so I could express my concerns to you. During that phone call, before I could even explain why I was calling, Ms. Ortiz again insisted that I was wrong about the law, despite my having confirmed the language of the statute. She then abruptly ended the conversation by hanging up on me. I'm not sure anyone has ever hung up on me before in my life, but perhaps I have been lucky to have survived this long without having that experience. I would encourage you to verify the information I have provided above from the NM legal code. Again, what troubles me most is not that I was asked to present identification. It is that a manager repeatedly misrepresented New Mexico law, dismissed what I was saying without consideration, argued with me even after I had confirmed the law to her, and then, later, hung up on a long-time customer who was trying to address the matter respectfully. Went with a large group for lunch on a weekday. We sat on the shaded patio, which was very comfortable. The menu is quite varied, so everyone was able to find something to enjoy. Intels us clean and had indoor and outdoor spaces. Since it's cold outside, we sat indoors and it was nice. Not very busy for this time but the street work crowd might show up soon so we'll see. I seriously can't believe I've never left a review of this place, or if I have it's been so long that I can't remember. This place was one of my go-tos during the pandemic. Carryout is always super quick and easy and they have a great menu selection. The weird sandwich - their rotating vegetarian option - is always fun. There are plenty of vegetarian options on the menu as well and also gluten free options. The food is consistently good - I have a hard time straying from my usual which is the mac n cheese, but straying to find new things is always worthwhile. There's a large on tap and bottled beer collection which includes cider. Service is always good and very friendly. There's indoor seating, an outdoor patio and a space we call the indoor outdoors which can be open air when the weather is nice. The array of changing artwork that's for sale is always super fun. read more

We love going to o'niells! The food is great and the service is excellent! You can do indoor or outdoor dining. Their patio is beautiful and big. You can sit at the top level which is more in the sun but they do have umbrellas, you can sit at the fully covered patio, or of course you can choose to sit inside. We usually take our doggy with us and sit on the patio. They do bring out clean water and a treat for your pups! My doggy loved the treat. The food alway comes out so hot and fresh. The believer in paradise is my absolute favorite thing to order from there, though anything I've had has been great! Good food, good prices, good service! All around a great place! read more

Wish I had read the most recent reviews. I haven't been here in a while but I was so disappointed in my dinner, the experience, the food, etc. I won't be back. Our bartender was nice, but the only one working the bar plus taking food orders at the bar. Obviously understaffed. We waited over 30 minutes for our appetizer that had been sitting Under a heat lamp because the fries were soggy. Our order came out wrong - wrong burger and husband's sides were wrong. I didn't want to send it back because I would have waited another 30 minutes for my meal. The food was tepid and the cheese was congealed on my burger. The manager took off a percentage, but it was still was overpriced for the quality of food and service. The bar was very dirty with glasses and plates that had not been bussed. ***************** Today was our first visit and Landon was our server. He mentioned he's been serving here for 7.5 years - which I consider a very good sign. The restaurant was shiny and spotless inside - something my wife and I both noticed and appreciated. Pride of ownership on display - and really nice to see. During our initial conversation with our server, I joked about my Irish heritage and my fortunate St Patrick's day birthday - I even showed my license to prove it :) ... unfortunately Landon shared he couldn't serve me a cocktail, because my auto drivers license had expired in March. My thoughts: Certainly don't want to "shoot the messenger" or break any liquor control laws. But it seems absurd an expired license makes it illegal for a bar to serve a 60+ years old guest a Guinness, during a 3:30pm lunch with his wife. But who knows - maybe there's an obscure New Mexico State liquor law, which I'm not aware of, stating you need a drivers license (which is current) in order to buy liquor or be served by a regulated establishment (bar, store). Oh my, what will people do, if they don't ever want to drive? Never be able to buy wine, port, bourbon or gasp tequila? My passport expires in 2027, my Global Entry Card, (allowing me to skip US Immigration) expires in 2025, my FAA Pilot License... none of these government ID's were going to be acceptable to my server apparently. Because he'd already witnessed my criminal action, with my expired drivers license. So "no" to the current passport and "no" to my beloved (anticipated) Guinness either. So Sad. First World problems ~ Earlier in the day, my wife was involved in six different orthopedic surgeries - and I was eager to enjoy a relaxing conversation with her, rather than wrestle with the restaurant for a cocktail. Meal: Our server knew the menu really well, and was kind enough to make some recommendations. Since I'm allergic to garlic powder, which is often found in seasonings like Lawry's or processed food from Sysco food trucks. Our server checked in with the kitchen about possible clean (non-powdered garlic seasonings) entrees offered. For me, Fresh Garlic or Fresh Scallions - are no problem at all. Unfortunately, nothing the kitchen prepped was surely free of Garlic Powder - and I appreciated them playing it safe. I settled on fish-n-chips while my wife enjoyed the shepherds pie. I wish this restaurant well. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the setup of indoor and outdoor seating. The Irish environment would have benefited from some Irish Rovers music today or other Celtic tunes ... as the rain / monsoon unloaded on the roof. After our meal, and frequent check-ins from our server we received our check. Our server generously and kindly provided two $2.50 coupons for a future visit. I left them on the table, and my "ever so kind" spouse later retrieved them (while admonishing me). Will I return? So after 2 years of living here in Albuquerque I finally made it to O'Neill's on Juan tabo. I invited nine friends. We dined on a Tuesday around 3:30 p.m. A staff was great about accommodating Us in the atrium. They put on warming lamps and we were the only group in there for a while. Nick was a very competent server. He was wonderful, truly. He asked if we would all need separate checks and most of us did need them and he was all too willing to go through the work of providing them which we appreciated. I don't know the bartender's name but he was very friendly and helpful and made great drinks. I had only bear myself but other people in the group had wine cocktails beer and Irish coffee which seem to be extremely popular. In fact several people said it's the best Irish coffee they've ever had. So the venue is great service was great the food was okay. One gentleman got chicken carbonara he thought it was a little strange to quote him. Another gentleman got a patty melt which he liked but he also ordered an Irish cheesecake that he said it had absolutely no flavor and he was extremely disappointed in it. I myself tried the Irish egg rolls and while there were a lot of them cut in half they were just okay I don't think I have them again. I think we'll be back in the summer to have beers on the outside patio in the evening. It's really a very comfortable place. The menu is interesting. I definitely want to try their fish and chips as well as their Irish Cubano. So while I did not give a five star rating I think a four is pretty admirable. read more

I'm looking for a new ace for Fish & Chips since my last visit to Two Fools was a disappointment. It was open seating so we sat outside on the patio. Very nice. Spacious and lots of fresh air, which I'm a fan of. Not long of a wait for our very happy server to appear. We ordered drinks, me the Cucumber Spritz, with vodka, no gin for me please. My husband, the Ever Changing Old Fashioned. First came the water, then came the much anticipated Queso. I had been spoiled by 25 plus years of the best queso Anywhere in ABQ, at La Placita in Old Town. Alas, covid closed them for good. The chips are thick, the salsa, in a tiny plastic container, has potential. The queso was very thick, luke warm, and not very spicy or tasting of the supposed Hatch green chile and jalapeños. Next came our food. My fish and chips with coleslaw and fries. We had to ask about our drinks which we hadn't gotten yet, and no, at two in the afternoon it wasn't busy or crowded. Growing up in MI, eating fresh perch, walleye, and Bass, and my father not making or a fan of tartar sauce, I ate/eat my fish plain or with ketchup. Just not ketchup with high fructose corn syrup which is all they had. Maybe bring my own ketchup next time? The fish was alright, mostly fresh tasting. The fries were fries and the coleslaw probably would have been better if it had been cooler, instead of luke warm like the queso. We did finally get our drinks and mine was very refreshing and it was great that I could swap the type of alcohol. I'm taking the fish, and queso home. Have been a regular but their service at dinner absolutely fails. Red shirted server ignored me for 15 minutes. Then brought a water and asked: "Do you need a menu". I said no, I know what I like. And he just ran off without taking my order. I started to leave and asked him why he had ignored me. He said he was very busy. So we just had an absolutely ridiculous experience at O'Niells. I had only been to the one in Nob Hill and always had a great time. We brought our little Yorkie to the outside patio and several were tables open. I went inside to check in with the hostess. She said they were short servers so only half the outside was open. Sure. Then she said someone would be out to help us. Some tool was standing a few feet away listening. Guess he was too scared to say something inside by the hostess and wanted to confront me alone. He follows me out to the patio. Tells us they have a 5-10 min wait. Ok. Should we stay here and wait? We have a little dog. He said no. "These tables are reserved. Go in and sign up with the hostess." Dude, you just saw me talking with the hostess! I said fine and then he said we shouldn't be out here anyway. What?! Where are we supposed to be ? Lots of people are out here. Why is this dork being so rude? This is friggin ABQ, not LA. I don't appreciate being yelled at in front of a dozen customers. We didn't do anything wrong. He mumbled some bullshit as he left so we just left too. Not giving these idiots my money. None of this was warranted. Worst customer service in quite some time. Sorry your servers called out. Don't take it out on customers. And 'Dog friendly' my arse. I guess next time I will just parade my little dog right into the restaurant instead of going to the patio. I was here 6 years ago and I finally returned to try it again. My memory spoke of a better place with good food. Unfortunately, some things have changed a lot in 6 years. The service was friendly and really quick! Angelo was willing to help with selections and was very attentive. The food was in our table in no time. The ambiance was relaxed with a mix of people of all ages. Now for the factors that cost this review 2 . The food was mediocre and with no flavor. We had the chips and queso for appetizer, the pulled pork sandwich, and the boxty reuben sandwich. The pulled pork has a chipotle barbecue sauce that tasted like ketchup. The reuben was very greasy and the sauerkraut didn't taste like anything. Not even our inner fat child allowed us to finish the reuben with all that grease. The potato pancake on the reuben was the only good thing. The chips and queso were somewhere between meh and ok. So, overall it was bland and expensive for the quality of food we got. Enjoyed Friday night at O'Neil's. We had a party of 15. Arrived before 4:30 to put it together. They require half your party to be present. We didn't know that...however, management worked with us. Set up the room off the end of the bar for us. Couldn't put tables together but the individual tables were close enough to make communication easy. Server, Molly, was most amazing and patient as the entire group arrived. Service was prompt and food was good. Tried the special, macaroni and cheese, fish and chips, burgers and appetizers. Plenty of drink choices from the bar. The family had a blast. Truly want to thank the staff for a terric time. They were busy before 4:30 in the afternoon! Think I know why! read more

This is a belated review for one of our favorite spots, O'Neils. We love this place. After our first visit, we quickly added it to our list of weekend hangouts. The staff is so friendly and on point. The food is always delicious. We enjoyed the food and Irish dancing during St. Patty's week as well! O'Neils has a lot of seating options - there are inside tables around bar (definitely has that pub feel) a covered patio that's full of light (and nice and toasty on cold days) and then a large outdoor patio with seating area water feature and fire pit. This place is consistently good and deserves to be recognized. I lack photos of these, but don't forget to try their fried pickles and Dulin mule to drink! read more

We love Oniell's! however, it seems like lately they haven't had all of their beer taps full, nor have they had all of their liquor stocked. The managers are so kind and helpful, but the owner, who always introduces her self as such, doesn't seem to value her employees, their expertise or knowledge. I frequently see her micromanaging all employees. She is going to lose great employees if she doesn't start to listen and be willing to take some constructive criticism. I hope she finds a way to value her team, trust them, and fill all of her beer taps. read more

O'neills has always been my go-to when no one can decide what they want to eat. They have a little of everything, and a full bar. Nothing has ever been spectacular but it's consistent and service has always been fine. Tonight was incredibly disappointing. The restaurant was about half full and I saw two servers and the manager running orders so I figured they were a little short staffed. No worries - I am pretty patient. But, the server took forever to greet us, took forever to get our drink order, and it was probably 15 minutes before we had the opportunity to order. She was unfriendly and borderline rude. Again, I get it. We order and it takes another half an hour for our food to come out. My son's medium cheeseburger was absolutely burnt. My Mac and cheese was charred and firm like plastic . We had ordered a half Reuben and they brought a full one (and charged for a full one). Reuben was soggy. Everything seemed like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for some time. 15 minutes later the waitress comes and we show her the burger. She said she'd go get the manager and have him come look at it. It was practically charcoal so I'm not sure why the manager had to confirm it. anyway he eventually comes over and says "ok we'll make a new one. Medium well doesn't take very long to cook." (I said no that was ok as my son was plowing through the fries and he insisted on remaking it. ) Well, it did. 20 more minutes. By that point we were done and ready to go. I was gonna tell the manager again no thank you on the burger but he was MIA for all 20 minutes. We asked for boxes for my Mac and cheese which was salvageable, and the new burger, and it took another ten minutes. We waited another several minutes for the check. At that point, the manager showed back up and looked to make sure the burger had been taken off the bill, which I appreciated. Anyway, we couldnt get out of there fast enough. The good: the drinks were great. The manager took the burger off our bill. The bad: overcooked, charred food. Extremely lax service. Rude server. People have bad nights but this was rough on all fronts. The service, the food, and management. We do really like O'Neills so I hope this was a fluke. read more
