"Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance you must keep going." Albert Einstein

Looking for local adventure times, see Reno by bike. Adventures awaited us by electric bike ride. Now if needed they have "regular bikes," too. When we arrived we were greeted in a timely fashion. A gentleman guided us that while an appointment is needed; he did have a few bikes available just for us. Yay! You are required to place the price of the purchase of the e bike that your renting on your credit card, for liability purposes. Make sure and have enough credit to cover this expense; plus the cost of the ride. The bike expenses was 200 for two hours, which seemed reasonable considering we were on vacation. As we zoomed away from the organization we realized that the cost of the rental should of included a full charge for the e bike rental. While the electric bike does regenerate as you ride without it having that full charge means that your doing some work too. Most of Reno is all hilly terrain and streets, so we have to work it a little to keep the battery pace going. We did loose the electric power for one of the bikes just before returning to the business because the batteries just gave up and needed a fresh charge. Upon returning we were greeted again. The friendliness left the owners face when we informed him of the situation that we encountered while riding. No disrespect towards the owners, but no discounts were offered. We just implied that we were displeased with the quality of the bike and it's up keep, but in the future would not use this particular business again. While the maintenance and battery did leave our ride a little bitter we still had a blast. One must not dwell on the experience of the negative, but focus on the good outcome that came from our journey that brought us to this destination. We were able to ride for a short time and see parts of Reno that would be unavailable under normal circumstances. We had one another and an e bike that performed most of its functions, beyond that it could of been worse. Before renting an electric bike make sure that you check the battery life. Do some research prior to renting an electric bicycle to make sure that it's sound, the tires are inflated, and regular inspections are taking place. One wrong move at these accelerated speeds can mean broken bones or some other serious or irreversible damage to you or someone you love. Make the most of your decision and life. Have wonderful adventures and keep on smiling with two hands on the handle bars. Shall we go for a ride!

Super fun day tubing down the Truckee. Great staff and our guide was awesome! We had 11 in our group and had an absolute BLAST!

This was our family's 2nd time with Sierra, first trip was 2 years ago and they were the brightest spot of our pandemic vacation! Today we went back with two more and it was the very BEST! They give perfect instruction, great tips, we get helmets, life jackets, and very cool tubes! All of the equipment is top of the line and made us all very very pro! The river path is awesome, equal parts serene and fun Indiana Jone's epic adventure! My 10 year old was able to handle it, they had equipment her size, and my 6'4" husband was accommodated just as well. We had a blast and will be back for more!!! Thank you!!!

Buddy and I had a fantastic time tuning the truckee River. Relatively gentle run on the truckee river, but not without some rocks and turbulence. Will do again!

We did the snowmobile tour. I'm 64 years old & had SO MUCH FUN! The scenery was gorgeous, of course. The tour was about 2 1/2 hours long. The van picked us up at the casino & drove us an hour to the tour starting point. The staff was courteous & our tour guide was friendly & generous with his great smile. I would so recommend this trip.

I also found out about Fifty's Grand opening at RPM, which we also supported and attended the next day, see other Yelp Review. Non alcoholic drinks were also available. And thank you for also giving 1% to not-for-profit workers "to defend the earth." And having programs that raise awareness of environmental and social issues. My favorite program is Worn Wear. You can either sell Patagonia your used clothes or trade them in so they can fix it. I believe that reusing is better than recycling. Furthermore, they give you credit ranging from $15 to $150.

We were clear that we weren't just cruising highways and would be doing some off-road riding. That was fine with them, these are adventure bikes after all. Well we ran into unexpected heavy rain, took a couple falls, and the bikes suffered some minor damage which we were bummed about but were willing to repair (broken mirror, clutch lever, dented hard panniers). I returned the bike, and they sent it to the shop to be fixed up. Two weeks later I was called and told they had just "discovered" something else wrong with the sub frame. Okay I thought, I didn't notice anything myself, but it's not a hard part to replace, how bad could it be? For the next two months, Barry, the apparently now behind-the-scenes owner let the bike sit in the shop with no follow up to me. I called and emailed a number times and it was clear they were in no hurry to get it back. They never knew the status of the bike and said they'd go check. The next thing I heard was a letter from the owner threatening to charge me nearly $16,000, including $12,000 for "loss of use" for every single day the bike was in the shop. That's right, he threatened to charge nearly double the value of the entire bike. When I responded that I was happy to pay for reasonable loss of use but that this seemed excessive, he didn't even respond himself, but had his lawyer send a demand letter explaining that under Nevada law "loss of use" does not have to be based on "notions of fairness, actual rental demand, or the resale value of the motorcycle" and that they could charge me based on whatever language they'd buried in the mountain of papers I'd signed at rental. They could literally let the bike sit in the shop for a year and charge me for 365 days "loss of use" with no recourse. Their paperwork also includes language claiming you will be responsible for legal fees regardless of the outcome of any litigation. It all seems incredibly well calculated to extort as much money as possible out of hapless renters. After this incident I went through their reviews and it's not hard to find other people with similar stories. It's clear this is a shady business built around shaking down the occasional customer to try to cash in on depreciated bikes. It's unfortunate that it's one of the only shops in Reno. Hope someone else opens an outfitter that isn't out to target and scam customers.

That said, I admit that I have mixed opinions about my experiences at this location. It's baffling to me when a niche store such as 511 Tactical can keep the lights on when the prices are astronomical. The product line is definitely impressive for individuals who work for the authorities such as police, firemen, etc. As a layman, I purchased a baseball cap and camouflage t shirt on clearance and paid nearly 50 dollars. Sure the t shirt is well fabricated, the design appropriate to my tastes, however $50 and on clearance. Something is amiss here. To add insult to injury the counter salesman who assisted me waisted zero time to tell me that sizes I was searching for were not locatable in their inventory room nor did he provide alternative selections or impart product knowledge, let alone show enthusiasm for the items he was selling. At the bare minimum perhaps it might be beneficial for him to model his local grocery store clerk who inquires: "Did you find everything you were looking for today?", however to my dismay that didn't transpire. The sale was robotic, lacked pizzazz, upsell opportunities nor information shared about new products and failed to motivate me to purchase regularly at their location. A salesman knows his product, just like the female store manager who shared that new inventory from other stores would be arriving, was extremely knowledgeable about the variety of clothing and storage items on the floor. So...as I said when offered a receipt, "I'm good. All sales are final". My only expectation was to receive service with a smile from a store ambassador who knew the product line. Unfortunately that did not happen and I won't be investing anymore funds on merchandise at 511.
