What happened to SIERRA Nevada!!! Once one of my favorite beers. I have heard Sierra Nevada was sold out and based on the quality of their beers I would not doubt it, but I am not 100% sure. Or perhaps one of the bigger beer conglomerates purchased enough shares to now dictate the ingredients and or brewing process. ( see Celis Brewery previously, not now. ) When I talked with Mr Celis many years ago he was in the process of leaving Austin and returning home to Europe because A larger beer co. Slowly bought him out and changed the quality of his beers. I use to live in Abita Springs area many years ago before Abita became a much larger microbrewery and the beer was incredible, but a certain larger beer conglomerate purchased them out and started using cheaper adjuncts in the beer making process. I talked to the owner / brewed back then and when I said I use to be your biggest fan but your beer is not very good any more. He said but nothing has changed. Well something has changed sadly with Sierra Nevada one of my all time favorites. Maybe perhaps now that SN increased its ability to brew a greater amount of brew it has changed the overall quality as well. Not sure but definitely not the same whatever the reason. read more

I've been on the brewery tour before, but I didn't attend it this visit. We came here on our way home from vacation. My wife and I really enjoyed the brewery tour in the past and my wife doesn't even drink beer, lol. I enjoyed it even more with the beer at the end of the tour. :-) Although, while we were there we did visit the gift store. I did end up purchasing one of their nice sport shirts, even though it was quite expensive. Therefore, if you are in the area, I highly recommend you stopping by for the tour and food. read more

Thanks Sierra Nevada for consoling two Breaking Benjamin fans who came "all the way" to Chico just to find out our show had been postponed to a date neither of us would be able to make. Dang Tahoe snowstorm! Easy to find location, good, efficient food service, awesome food, not a parking care in the world, and tasting favorite brews from the source was a perfect way to nurse our little fanboy/fangirl broken hearts back to health enough to begin the "trek" back to Sacramento. Otra Vez and Kellerweiss: Even better on tap. YUM. Especially Otra Vez, which I had only ever had from a can up until yesterday. Soooo much better, and the beer is already flavorful enough in a can. I was so glad they had our favorites, plus about 15 or so more Sierra Nevada staples and seasonals. Pretzels with Beer Cheese: That is the best beer cheese I have ever had. Browned edges, perfect, rich, tangy cheese taste, served with two warm, fluffy Bavarian pretzels. Sierra Nevada Bacon Burger: I was craving a burger. I hadn't had one in ages. This guy really hit the spot. They mean thick slabs when they say bacon, and they mean thousand island when they say "Sierra Nevada Sauce." Though, I'm not sure I was supposed to let that "secret" slip. Totally asked server, totally got that response, totally laughed. Points to beardy server man for making me laugh. I needed that. Yelp review #700 & it's a biggie too! That's because Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. really is 1 of the Godfathers of modern craft brewing. This place is like Mecca for any true fan of beer. I'd wanted to come here for years, but the reason & timing for finally visiting was all inspired by a fellow beer nerd friend (who is now also Yelp Elite, BTW). He noticed on their website that Sierra Nevada was offering a "Beer Geek Tour." I checked it out, read the description & it was on! A comprehensive, all-access, 3 hour, small group tour with a knowledgeable tour guide all to ourselves & exclusive tastings straight from the tanks? Oh, Hell yeah! This super-tour is only offered on Fridays, so I called, made reservations 3 weeks in advance & took that day off work. It's also $25/ person, which sounded steep. The girlfriend & I showed up a little early for our appointed time & were joined by my beer nerd friend & his wife. That was the whole tour group, just us. Our tour guide, Scott, was a really cool & friendly guy whose thorough knowledge of beer & Sierra Nevada had him effortlessly answering virtually every question we were able to dream up over the course of 3 hours. Once the tour was off & running, we went everywhere. & I mean everywhere. East Brewhouse? Check. West Brewhouse? Check. Hops freezer? Check. Open fermentation room? Check. Solar roof panels & hydrogen fuel cells? Check. Bottling & kegging lines? Check. Pilot Brewhouse & bottling line? Check. Oh, I've seen things. & tasted too. At points along the way, we sampled beers from the tanks. Beer doesn't get any fresher than that. To drink such an ambrosial thing was just about worth the price of admission alone. But the rarefied tastings didn't end there. The tour wrapped up in the tasting room where we were also treated to a couple bottles of exclusive stuff that had been aged for a couple years. &, finally, for good measure, we each got an empty Sierra Nevada growler, which goes for $12 in the merch store. Without a doubt, this was, by far, the best brewery tour I've ever done. & I've done quite a few. Yeah, it's $25. I don't give out many 5-star reviews but I have to hand one out for their tour. We booked this in advance and the entire thing was easily set up. Going into it I wasn't sure what to expect but it was very in-depth and hands on. Yes, hands on, with hops. They take you into the hop storage room where they fill trash cans with shovels from troughs. Then they encourage you to grab a handful and rub in between your hands to smell the aroma. They take you all around the facility and don't hold back at all. Bonus points for their use of solar energy to power the facility. At the end you get several tasting in a separate area from the main bar. read more

We were a group of 36 from the Davis Travelaires travel group. We broke into two groups for the tour, our guides were knowledgeable, friendly and had great sense of humor. We then went on for beer tasting, everyone really enjoyed that part! Following the tour and tasting we had an amazing lunch in the Taproom Restaurant, Manager Geoffrey and the staff who served us were awesome, with such a large group they were timely, friendly, always smiling and put out a lot of food! I absolutely recommend taking a tour of the brewery because even though it's a bit smaller than some others, it's still a fantastic way to learn about what gets in that green labeled bottle and how. Also, be careful rubbing the hops on your hands to get the aroma of them- the smell lasts until well beyond the end of the tour. read more

My husband and I had lunch at the taproom today and were very disappointed in the quality of the food and the price that was charged. You would expect an $18.00 hamburger would be memorable, but it was not, and french fries were extra. They were suppose to be garlic but had no real flavor. Person admitted it was late notice but didn't apologize. Really? They have all of my contact info and they couldn't text/and or call? The tour is awesome! It is under an hour, but the best part is the free tasting after wards. I have done the tour twice, and each time I end up learning something new about the brewery. Even if you don't really like the beer, you have to like the fact that they are super eco-friendly and they seem to treat their employees really well. And, because of that, everyone here seems to really love their job and be enthusiastic about it. It makes me want to quit my job and come work for the brewery. We came on a Saturday with a group of 4, and they only had room for 3. One of my friends didn't get to go on the tour, but she asked if she could sneak in for the tasting at the end and they totally were cool with it and allowed her to which was super awesome. Just be sure to sign up for the tours early on the weekends since they do fill up. read more

We planned to visit on a Saturday afternoon to originally just visit the restaurant for dinner. I took a quick look through their website because my other half had mentioned they offer tours to view the facility. I found the Sustainability tour which was the cheapest tour($10) that still had availability for Saturday. They offer a free tour as well but sadly it was already booked. Basically the Sustainability tour was to explain how Sierra Nevada tries to give back to the environment and take as little as they can. They took us around the facility to show and explain their bottling process, show their massive collection of solar panels, their amazing garden, and a little more about the brewing process. It was truly interesting to learn about it. This tour however was mostly outdoors, which they do advise prior to booking, and they do recommend bringing bottled waters. Our tour guide was awesome. Friendly and humorous while going throughout the buildings. When we checked in we were given a lime green re-usable water bottle as a gift! We started the tour with watching a short video of the owner and creator while our guide brought us sampling of their Pale Ale. After some info we headed outdoors to the rear buildings and were shown a few different things. Our visit ended up in the garden where we were able to grab a can of Sierra Nevada and enjoy the outdoors. At the end of our tour we handed back out badges and we were given another free gift! A re-usable tote bag. We actually visited the gift shop and grabbed a few items to take home with us. Overall it was an awesome experience. I would love to pay a little extra for $45 to do the entire sampling "tour". read more

Loved this brewery! Came with two coworkers while on a recruiting trip in Chico, and loved the atmosphere. It was beautifully well done and had tons of character. The waitress was also so incredibly nice! I personally got a flight, and the two that stood out to me were the Old Chico and the Kellerweis. The Old Chico is a must try - very light and refreshing. The Kellerweis is a bit heavier but incredible. If you like Belgians like I do, you'll probably like both of those. I'll definitely come back next time I'm in the area! read more

Awesome tour- one of the most informative and interesting tours that I've been to (and I've been to a good amount of breweries). First off, their standard tour is FREE- just make sure you book online in advance, since they do max out on their tours! There are also paid tours that you can take (for example, $20/person for the Hop Head Tour). I came for the standard tour at 11:00am on a Saturday morning. There is plenty of parking, and you can browse the gift shop if you come early. You check in for the tour at the small desk/podium to the right of the entrance to the main building, before you enter the gift shop. Make sure you arrive ten minutes early so that they can start the tour right at the start of the hour. Our guide was Cody, and he was really knowledgeable about the history of Sierra Nevada. The owner (Ken Grossman) sounds awesome- he is really into sustainability, and the brewery reflects that. They have solar panels and caps to catch carbon dioxide to re-purpose it instead of releasing it into the atmosphere, among a lot of other technology to leave as little of a carbon footprint as possible. We started off by watching a short video, then hearing about the history of Sierra Nevada, then walking around different parts of the brewery (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=gFiZ7PXAHi1QqpyJVob8PA&userid=76vIFZcC7owykCBjMfGVXg). You get your first sample of beer right after the video, and then 7 samples at the end of the tour (at the bar for tour groups next to the gift shop). We got generous pours, and got to hear additional information about the beers as they were poured. At the very end, we even got a free Sierra Nevada pint glass to take home! Again, this was an awesome tour, and I'd highly recommend this tour to any beer fans, and/or those new to beer. As a fan of their Hazy Little Thing IPA, I went out of my way to book a tour at Sierra Nevada when driving from Oregon to San Francisco. Their customer-friendly facility boasts a great restaurant that I highly recommend in addition to a bar and gift shop. Our tour guide was a knowledgable and enthusiastic gal with a chemistry background. Not being a science major, many of the finer details were lost on me, but the tour gave me a deeper appreciation for the care and creativity necessary to make and market a high-quality product. I know a lot of people who love Sierra Nevada and I was just *shrug.* This tour was pretty nice though and it was cool to see all of the behind the scenes work that goes into everything. The facility is clean and the history is rich. Our tour guide, Rob, was fun and knowledgeable. The welcome beer and tasting at the end showed me the variety that Sierra Nevada has to offer and made a fan out of this girl right here! First of all, the service was great. Our server was a nice young (tall) man he was attentive and patient with our orders. We ordered beer flights and tried almost everything. All the staff are super nice and helpful and they have a lot of beers on tap and in bottles that you can get and the restaurant and bar are clean and same with the bathrooms as well, it is a little bit more noise though. I would recommend this place for everyone who is over 21 years old it's good for dates and lunch and dinner. Hi all, I no longer live in Chico, but spent over 10+ years working and schooling. Miss the place. I was disheartened by Sierra Nevada and their lack hospitality with dogs on the patio, The hostess was nice enough, but when they tell me service animals only.... I won't say yes to that. After my friends went in, and I was leaving cause I couldn't go in, I looked at the patio. It was open with available tables, and saw a dog back there... not a service animal. I even saw a lady walk in to the dining area with a dog strapped to her chest.... The hostess was an idiot. She told me she doesn't want another dead dog in a car.... ..... maybe your policy is the problem while serving alcohol to idiots with dogs in cars. Maybe she should rethink her policy. I was on the waitlist for 4 people in my party including myself and miraculously we got in. Thank you Sierra Nevada Brewing! :) The tour is located at the gift shop opposite side of the restaurant. Arrive 15 minutes early or earlier to get on the waitlist. You get a tour guide and they begin with the history and background of the brewing company (very informative). We had the tasting first because it was the last tour of the day. We then went around the facility and had an awesome experience learning about their brewery.
