I was referred to Dr Shenouda by my regular eye doctor for cataract and eyelid surgery. So far I'm pleased with her and her staff.

My wife was referred here after a routine test for eyeglasses revealed some minor abnormalities. That was five or six years ago, my wife has had annual visits since that time. When we first walked in we were immediately greeted and given some paperwork to fill out since it was our first visit. Upon completion of the paperwork we took care of the copay then were directed back to the waiting area.  I appreciated that they made sure we knew where the vending area and coffee areas were located. The place was pretty full and the front staff seemed a little unorganized and chaotic but everything somehow worked.  We left our home without our morning coffee so we ventured to the coffee machine.  Wow!  The coffee machine is amazing, it dispenses everything from regular brewed coffee to espresso to lattes to cappuccino to Chai tea to hot chocolate and more.  My wife got a latte and I got a cappuccino, the coffee was actually very good.  We also enjoyed some tasty complementary cookies.   Having read some reviews which indicated lengthy wait times we settled in but the wait wasn't bad at all.  After maybe 15 minutes we were given some literature and a portable DVD player on which to watch a video explaining glaucoma.  We were only a few minutes into the video when we were escorted to testing area where they ran some tests on my wife's eyes.  After the preliminary tests we resumed watching the video in another waiting area.  Again, we only watched about five minutes until we were taken to the exam room where the doctor would be seeing us.  An assistant asked some questions and prepared us to see the doctor, she was very helpful.  We resumed watching the video during which time the doctor entered the room and introduced herself.  She said she would wait until we finished the video before proceeding because she felt it was important.  After we finished the video we asked a few questions which Dr. Dewundara was happy to answer.  She then proceeded with a thorough examination and more testing, she explained every step of the process and was very polite, friendly and professional throughout our time there.  She showed us test results on the monitor and explained them very well.  She said there was one area that needed further testing so we would need another appointment in a couple of months. We were very impressed with Dr. Dewundara and feel fortunate for my wife to be under her care. My wife has continued to get great care here over the years since this first visit.  The stand-alone building has its own spacious parking lot so there are no parking worries.  Overall we are very pleased with Virginia Eye Consultants. We are impressed with the state-of-the-art facility The wait times can get a little lengthy but the friendly, helpful staff and quality of care we always receive make it well worth the waits. Sometimes, when we are in the area, I think about that coffee machine in the main waiting room and consider stopping in for a cup. So far, I have resisted that urge.

This is my third visit and they have done nothing except the same eye tests with eye chart and tell me how it takes time. My eyes hurt, are terribly irritated and my vision is slipping by the day. Follow up doc told me I need to meet with surgeon on next visit yet today's visit was not with surgeon. In addition, they were running "a minimum" of one hour behind but you can't leave once you check in to run a get a to-go bite. My appt was for 12:40 and I wasn't seen until after 3:10. And lastly, every visit I feel like I'm just a part on an assembly line. Rote verbiage over and over again.

Maybe I should just be editor of all these businesses! Who keeps entering all these names…read moreincorrectly?? Anyways, this should be correctly named Virginia Beach Eye Center. Although they do do surgeries, they do more than that. There are 2 doctors here both very well known in the area and in the field of ophthalmology. I've had a great experience with them individually, but the biggest negative thing about their practice is the wait. Be prepared to be here for at least an hour and 15 min. They have so many patients packed in that they inevitably fall behind. However, they do spend the time talking to you once it's your turn. Also in the same building is their affiliated optometry center. Instead of an ophthalmologist you can opt to see an optometrist. Then just walk right over to the other counter and get your glasses prescription filled! I often like to come in to get a few candies which they have a big bowl of by the counter. shhhhh

He definitely did not feel seen nor heard! My dad has an ALS disease and ALSO going through chemotherapy for cancer. His previous eye doctor said he has cataracts and a surgery should be performed. When he was seen by Dr Gross, he advised against the surgery and we RESPECT that because of his knowledge as a doctor. However, Dr. Gross' condescending remarks were unacceptable! Verbatim, he said, "Your glasses are so dirty, maybe that is the reason for your declined vision" My mother proceeded and asked, "if he doesn't need cataracts then why is his vision declining?" I kid you not, Dr Gross said, "well, just have him remove his dirty glasses so he can see" ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?! THIS IS NOT OKAY! My parents are asian, and there is a language barrier - but to be treated as such is against the medical oath that this Dr took. His moral compass is off! Nowhere is this lifetime did my father receive such an awful encounter from a doctor! His bedside manner is terrible! This negative experience of Dr Gross' behavior deterred us from ever coming back. THIS DOCTOR HAS NO COMPASSION, POWER TRIPS AND VERY CONDESCENDING! And his scribe, she is very rude as well. Patients do not lie, the reviews of this place speaks volumes.

Very long wait time, with appointment staff changing times, canceling, providing different doctors…read morethan scheduled, and not seeming to know what's going on from one minute to the next. The care quality is up in the air based on who you see, and what their specialty and experience is for that type of care. One time I went in to have my eye photographed by a large machine and the teenage staff members there seems inexperienced and unable to figure out how to use the machine. One young lady was looking at her phone while eating a bag of chips a few feet away while the teenager male kept pulling my head and trying to position it in different ways and eventually had to ask the teenage young lady to put down the chips and help him try to figure out how to photograph my eye. It took them several times to figure it out. Considering that patients go there for very serious, often life-altering medical conditions that can be life-threatening if not treated properly or cause them to lose sight, it's disheartening and depressing to see teenage staff disorganized, disinterested, and seeming to be out of touch with what they need to be doing or how to schedule simple appointments.

This was my first appointment with Dr. Wagner, and I deeply regret going. Patients in the waiting…read moreroom were sitting for an average of two hours just to be seen for ten to fifteen minutes, which I found unacceptable. Still, I waited patiently for my turn. The nurse who checked me in tested my vision by holding up her fingers and asking me to look in different directions. No machines were used to assess the health or vision of my eyes, even though my optometrist had previously detected high pressure multiple times over the last six months. After numbing my eyes, the doctor came in, briefly examined me, and said my eye pressure was normal at 18 in both eyes (which I was very happy and also my optic nerve was fine). Unexpectedly, the doctor made comments about my weight. I explained that my A1C is perfectly normal and that I am comfortable in my size large clothes. I am a big breasted women so he seemed to assume I was overweight based on appearance alone. I did not come for unsolicited opinions about my body. I came for a medical evaluation of my eyes. I stood up for myself and asked him to stop, but he was loud and dismissive throughout the visit. After the appointment, I was shocked to receive a bill for $358. Other ophthalmologists in the area charge around $175 for a comprehensive exam that includes proper machine testing, like at Virginia Eye Consultants. When I contacted the billing department, I was told the wrong billing code might have been submitted but that it could not be changed because doing so would be considered fraud. However, it seems unethical that an incorrect code benefiting the provider financially was submitted in the first place. That's a fraud! I wrote a letter directly to the doctor and gave it to the practice manager, but she repeatedly ignored my follow-up requests. I do not know if the doctor ever saw it, or simply chose not to respond. I do not recommend this practice due to the excessive wait time, the doctor's poor bedside manner, and questionable billing practices.
