This is our daughter's normal eye doctor, she has been coming here for about 2 years now and the staff are always friendly and get us checked in pretty quickly. Anytime I need a doctors note or prescription they are quick to help! Her doctor is doctor Bejarano, she has always been very straight forward with us. She may not be the most comforting doctor, but she is knowledgeable and will tell you everything you need to know. She also tried alternative methods with our daughter before going straight to surgery, which was comforting. read more

I had zero expectations upon entering. This was a very new situation for me. My son was 10 months when he failed his first eye exam. We were referred here and to Dr Eric Crouch for further examination. Location is close to home and very nice from the outside as well as when you walk in. Very large building. Clean and organized inside. Welcome desk is up front as soon as you walk in. We were greeted and handed a tablet to complete our patient forms. Tv and seating available and tablets for children to play on also located in seating area. Glasses can be sold here. However, our insurance was accepted for the exam and not the glasses. We bought glasses elsewhere. Staff member handling glasses was very bland and lacked personality. Sales should be engaging in my opinion. The actual wait to see the doctor is awful! 2+ hours. We saw him for all of 10 minutes when he did enter. I couldn't tell you what takes that long. Entering and exiting didn't show many patients. I was frustrated because entertaining such a young child in a room is tough. He was ready to go. We will plan ahead for an extremely long wait if we do not find another dr before his next exam. read more

If you have a child that's special needs, don't take your kid here. They don't have the patience or training to handle your little one with care. I lost count how many times they rolled their eyes and gave out frustrated sighs. I'm sorry my 3YO non-verbal autistic kid is scared of you after you dialated his eyes. Based on the other screams we heard from other rooms, they don't know how to handle kids with care. Also, our appointment was at 10am. It's near Greenbrier Mall just a bit further down the way on Crossway(s) Blvd from the Coast Guard Exchange. This was my family's first time working with a civilian medical provider in quite some time. Nurse Precious made my son's first visit to this location seamlessly smooth and effortless. Having a child with unique needs due to developmental challenges can make any medical appointment... an adventure. Nurse Precious was respectful, courteous, attentive, and compassionate to our entire situation with my special needs son. To be fair, all the nursing staff was friendly and helpful, but Nurse Precious set the tone and standard for the visit. My son's unique situation with his challenges can cause his temperament to become... agitated (to say the least). Nurse Precious didn't pause, blink, or lose who cool at any point throughout. I was very disappointed with my daughter's appt this afternoon. I was referred to them by her pediatrician because my daughter has been complaining of blurry vision. Once we went into the exam office, I and my daughter were very clear that my daughter was having was blurry vision. They went ahead and checked her and then dilated her pupils. They explained to me that her pupils needed to be dilated to see what was wrong with her vision. Once they performed the test after waiting for long time for the doctor they never checked for her blurry vision. Once again I specified that the main reason I was there was for her to get checked for her blurry vision. They said they could not check for that because her pupils had been dilated and that I had to wait for three more weeks to come and get checked for that. Why waste my time and my money because I will have to pay for this out of pocket since my insurance is not going to cover it. Not going back to a place that will not listen to the patient but just do what they want. read more

Dr Steinbeisser was good as were the assistants. The practice policy to still force mask use is obtrusive; with a gruff front desk crew that just shoves a mask at you without saying a word. The President has declared that COVID is over. Why are we still acting like improperly worn masks do something worthwhile? You would think a doctor's office would know something about science and if you want someone to wear a mask at least be nice about it, if they had I wouldn't be posting this review. We've been seeing Dr. Morales for a year. She's always been great with our daughter, now age 3. Her eyes have improved under the care and knowledge Dr. Morales. Our daughter is very spirited and the staff has always been patient and caring. The glasses specialist, Charmagne, is also fantastic and was a huge help in choosing glasses that would work for our little one! I have been taking my children to Virginia Pediatric Eye Center for 11 years now. We have never been disappointed. Doctors Eric and Earl Crouch are awesome and have performed surgeries on five of my children who were born with cataracts. Gaylord Ventura has fitted two of them with contact lenses, the most recent being the most impressive. The behind the seen staff are amazing also. Cathy, Cye (I am probably spelling her name wrong), Jonda, Charmaine, Cassandra, Angie and the rest of them, has always made the atmosphere at VPEC very welcoming and refreshing. After not seeing many reviews, I figured my two cents might help. First of all, this place is insanely busy. I think pretty much every kid in the state was there. They called the kids back after roughly an hour waiting in the waiting room and did a quick assessment and dilated their eyes and sent us back to the waiting room to wait for the dilation. The waiting room is packed as mentioned above but they have about 9 different kids toys and kids movies playing but it's a little chaotic and after an hour of waiting my toddlers were over the wait. We waited the designated dilation time and were called back again for the final eye exam. The actual time seeing the dr was very efficient. The drs seemed very friendly. The front desk staff seemed overwhelmed with the amount of paper work, kids, noise-to be expected, even the most veteran of parents will most likely feel like they need a drink after this visit, but there really isn't anything the staff or drs could do differently to speed up the 20kids eye exams scheduled each hour. So just be prepared. Bring lots of snacks, electronic devices and be ready to wait. Shout out does go to Charmaine. I had read the other review that talked about how amazing she was so as we were walking out and someone mentioned her name-I was excited to see someone that was excited and loving her job cause the wait was long, the parents were tired and the snacks were being rationed due to my underestimation of how long an eye dr would take from start to finish: Roughly 2hrs- so my review "plan accordingly." read more

My daughter is 3 months old, she was scheduled at his office to see a woman dr. We came in the woman very rude comes in basically asking why did I bring my 3 month old in I said because she has a lazy eye I think. She says yes it's called a droopy eye I said ok she said well I think it could be cancer... I'm like ok so what do we do she stated it's nothing we can do but watch it because no one measured your daughter pupils before I came in witch was our mistake however you can go home and keep a eye out and bring her back in 6months... I instantly got upset and ask for another dr... Dr crouch entered the room basically with attitude saying he was going to redo the exam Mysteriously they found measurements that the other Dr said wasn't in the system and stated she needed glasses (remind you the first Dr said nothing about glasses) he later stated he was going to test her for hornors syndrome and said I could either do blood or urine at a outpatient lab. He said urine is very had for a child her age and said he would recommend the blood work. I waited 10days for the blood work to come back constantly praying with family and friends. His nurse calls on Wednesday at 11:30 am and says Dr crouch stated "the urine test came back negative" I said my child never took urine test she said I need to call him and clarify but because I think he put you could do one or other on the lab request he just said urine. As a Dr you need to be sure what information your sharing with a patient. I said yes please check and ask him if the test is negative what's next TWO DAYS GO BY NO NOTHING I'm calling asking no one has talked to him.... just for me to have to say I'm going to file a complaint with the health board... and he calls at 7pm on Friday (Wednesday was when the nurse called) to say she needs additional test because he talked to another Dr and the Dr thinks it's best.... WHEN WAS HE GOING TO SHARE THIS INFO IF HE TOLD HIS NURSE TO CALL ME AND SAY EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL... later for him to schedule a 24 hr urine on a 3 month old (very hard to do remember he said that in the beginning) I rush to the lab Monday morning just got them to say this is a lot on a 3 month old she can get a rash from using bags every hr to collect urine over a 24 hr period so everyone is checking around calling his office just making sure he's aware of what this is what he needs after two hrs at CHKD they said he needs this and to go home a try to do it but if I notice a skin breakdown stop.... really stressed I reach out to him again with his nasty attitude he's like I'm the Dr not them they don't have medical degrees. He decided to order my 3 month old a MRI of the abdomen with sedation. MRI ( radiology) calls and says the radiologist is checking why he wants to do abdomen when he is testing for hornors syndrome that's normally in the face and neck so to give them a day to clarify... I reach out to him again he calls with a attitude I don't understand why they can't just do what the Dr ordered is what he says "I'm thr Dr" I said well I'm just so confused please help. He said I'll call radiology in the morning and if I need to add test I will and it will not change anything everything is set for you. His scheduling team calls the very next morning HE IS ORDERING A ADDITIONAL TWO TEST NOW THEY HAVE TO USE Anesthesia to put her to sleep (very confused) I'm like is this really necessary at 3 months old with a normal test result... I say well I'm prepared for Wednesday I have a babysitter for my 3 year old that due to covid can't go to the appointment with me at CHKD just for her to say no it's changed to Friday (I CANT FO FRIDAY NO SITTER) no one let me know in advance that the dr didn't know what test to run.... so now I'm like can we break the test up because that's a lot on a 3 month old HE SENDS ME A EMAIL SAYING I DECLINED CARE AND THAT HE DOESNT RECOMMEND DOING THREE SEPARATE TEST even if it means she doesn't have to be sedated. You cannot find a more professional office than this. The care from the Drs .is absolute top of the line. Total competence and excellent care. Their skill is easy to see (pun intended). The staff in the office get things done. You won't find better. We literally drive 70 miles one way to get there. Ever have problems with your insurance co. just to get forms ? If you deal with Anthem Ins. you have. Well I get there and tell Kathy Charmaine (hope I spelled her name right) and she has forms faxed there in 15 mins. that I couldn't get after 6 phone calls over 2 weeks. Take a bow Kathy. I will never return to this office. Not a pediatric office in my eyes. Not the Clinical staff or the doctor himself. Brought my daughter in after being referred by her PCP at a year and a half and they had 0 bed side manner and didn't know how to treat a child who was obviously terrified. Rude to me, "guess she doesn't want to do anything today huh?" was a statement that was thrown at me after my daughter cried after eye drops and a nurse with no warning trying to shove her head into the head camera. Lady who did the initial eye drops needed to cut her nails, the next day my daughter had scratches all around her eyes from this lady having to fight with her and hold her eyes open for the drops. To me if your the nurse to do eye drops your nails should be cleanly cut. Saw the doctor for all of two minutes and he was more worried about getting kicked then doing the exam " she's only almost two she's going to cry anyways, just hold her still." Was then told her eyes were perfectly fine. (which I now know was wrong) can you tell doing a 2 minute exam. Just recently went to a different office where I was told she hasn't been using her left eye for a really long time. Loved this new office and will continue to go there. I had my first time dealing with this company was this past Friday. I have a preemie and she just got out of the hospital. The hospital scheduled this appointment an told me to just take her there for the appt. When I checked the appt. it was at 8am on the first day of school. I have other kids that I have to put on the bus so I called to reschedule. I left a message the first time. Later my child's father called back to say that someone from the clinic called and were being rude about us having to reschedule the appt. Insinuating that we were bad parents because we had to reschedule. I called back. The same lady answered the phone and yes she was very rude. Turns out she was the biller for this office. I was offered an appt. for over a week away during the second call. By the third call I was offered another apt for the same day. But after the biller was rude I held off until I spoke with the office manager. I had to call her back. When I spoke with her she was no better. saying this apt is important and the hospital should have spoken with you about this. I had every intention on going to the appt. Just could not do that time and this office bereted me for this. I have never met any of these employees. I ended up cancelling the whole appt. Found Pediatric Optometrist right in Norfolk where I live. They were very nice and accommodating. Virginia Peds even had the audacity to ask me to call them with the results from the other optometrist because they are contracted thru CHKD. No way. CHKD should be made aware. This is who there are referring patients to. They are only concerned with money. Not the preemie. Thanks to the biller there, I dodged a bullet. read more
