Despite having two X chromosomes, I have a blatant aversion to salons. The product/service up-sells, the fakeness, the constant mindless prattling by the hairdressers and the extra charge for long hair are all among the things that encourage my avoidance and disdain. I'll typically tame my mane with 1-2 professional cuts per year and occasional trims that I personally administer. Teresa @ silk blew all my negative associations away. Not only was she real (unlike most hairdressers who pretend to be your best friend and shower you with ridiculous compliments) She didn't push any extra products, she listened to me and she gave me one awesome Moroccan oil treatment & haircut. I wasn't charged the long hair tax and I got a fantastic deal on both of the services. Silk ALWAYS seems to have some ridiculous promotion or discount going on whether it be on their website, in the paper or on groupon. Punctual with appointments, friendly and helpful service, and a clean salon...... This was my third time here and I've been happy with the service so far. Usually it's just a touch-up, highlights and haircut. Today's haircut was just $25. They keep to their appointments (they also take walk-ins), everyone is friendly and the place looks clean and very professional. It's all I ask for in a hair salon. I will return and use some of their other services. When I do, I'll update this review. Why not give them a call yourself and try them out? They always have coupons in the paper and here on Yelp. I went to Silk about 6 weeks ago when they had a special on Groupon. $65 for full hilights so why not? I was pleasantly surprised to see the girl I had booked an appointment with had been the assistant at my old salon. Roxy is absolutely awesome and really did an amazing job. My hair tends to have a lot of red come out when I get hilights and she remembered this. Hers came out better than at my old salon where they had been doing my hair for 10 years. The salon is neat, clean and has a warm atmosphere. The owner offered me coffee, water, etc during my visit. Love this place and will be going there regularly from now on. read more

I found a good groupon for this salon, so I checked out their reviews. It seemed that a lot of their customers feel they have good service so I made an appointment. Driving out from Brooklyn, I accidentally showed up 2 hours past my appointment! They were exceptionally kind to me and kept my appointment anyway. All four women that were working at the time made me feel comfortable and welcomed. They offered me a beverage (one staff member even offered me an egg roll :D). Marina cut and styled my hair exactly the way I wanted it. This hair salon far exceeded my expectations. When I have purchased groupons with other salons, I have often felt as though I wasn't being treated the same as their full paying customers. That being said, I obviously did not return. I purchased a Groupon for a keratin treatment about a month ago. I walked into the salon w. Thick, long hair down to my butt. When I walked out my hair had been trimmed to just below my shoulders. Not only that, but I guess the chemicals burnt my hair basically up to my ears with dead ends. /: unfortunately wouldn't recommend. read more

I really wanted to give this place a good review but when your hair gets that messed up it's absolutely no more than 1 star worth. I took my sister here based on the great reviews on yelp and Groupon and their good Groupon deal. They were very friendly and as soon as we arrived they took care of her. Because they cut, dried and then styled her hair with curls we didn't see the mess until the next day when my sister washed and straightened her hair. The cut is terrible in messy two layers that look like she cut her own hair. It's just sad because you would think they make sure to make it a clean cut. I would therefore definitely not recommend coming here... Wish we could get our money back. read more

The keratin straightening took a long time and I had to go for days without washing my hair and then use a special shampoo and conditioner and it is still not pin straight. I had very long hair to my waist and was convinced to remove quite a bit which I agreed to for the sake of making keratin straightener look better. I highly recommend Ashley. I decided I wanted some longer layers in my hair. Didn't have an appointment just walked in on a Tuesday afternoon, and they were ready to see me right away. Ashley has a great, warm personality and is very good at her job. I showed her a few pictures of the styles I was hoping for and she made it happen. My hair came out exactly how I wanted it! I have been searching for a salon here in Long Island and have finally found one! Danielle was great!! The staff at Silk surpassed my expectations and gave me a fantastic experience. My appointment began on time and the consultation was straight to the point. We picked out the best color and style for me and and hour and a half later I was out the door- happy! I was originally looking to have my hair done so that I didn't have so much maintenance but now I almost wish I did because I enjoyed my experience so much! Highly recommend. read more

Went in for a partial, haircut and condition treatment. Billy greeted me with a warm hello and took me in immediately and consulted with me regarding what would work best for my hair type and style. I like that he was not scissor happy and he listened to my concerns, and I walked out with a cut/color that I was well pleased with. What I liked was that being on such a strict budget, I was able to receive a salon experience without the enormous price tag. The atmosphere is pleasant, offering clients coffee, tea and water along with an assortment of cookies. It's sometimes the little things that add to the experience. I also liked how the team all work together to make sure that all your needs are met. I will definitely return to Billy for my next appointment. read more

This is the worst salon I have ever been to. The day I went in there was 1 person there working and she had 2 young helpers. It seems that everyone in a chair had a groupon for hair glazing. I was the only person there getting a haircut. I told her that it was a very special Occasion that I was getting my hair done for. My regular salon Christopher Jon had just closed down and I was looking for a new place to get my hair done. She told me I was in good hands and started to cut my hair I told her I just wanted my bangs trimmed and to trim my long layers. She totally chopped up my hair she put layers on the very top of my head. She also layered the whole back of my head and it was all uneven! She put 2 huge globs of some kind a greasy stuff in my hair before she started to blow dry it and I left the salon a greasy unhappy mess I will never ever go back there I am still trying to grow it back out to years later read more

WOW! I am not normally so inclined to review places, but I just HAD to give Sam a rave review! I went in this morning for a partial highlight and glaze. She listened to my concerns, came up with an idea of how to achieve the look I wanted, and made sure we were on the same page before she applied any treatment to my hair. I can honestly say this was the best hair coloring experience I have ever had, simply because it was done so well. My old salon closed so I found silks through groupons . I read all the reviews before I purchased and found it very helpful . The salon is in a great location and it extremely elegant inside. I had Danielle who recommended a certain highlight color for my hair. The outcome was amazing the best job ever . The one thing I really liked is that one person does the highlight, wash, cut and blowout. I absolutely recommend this salon and Danielle is the sweetest and very knowledgable. read more

I found Silk Hair Spa through groupon... I first went in for a hair cut with the morrocan oil treatment. I had my appt with Billy...for a hair cut. I wanted a lot off and it was a big change so at first I liked it. When I went home though, I realized it was very uneven and only layered in the back. (I recently got it cut again at Christopher Jon's and she showed me that it was cut wrong)... I decided to give them another try (through a groupon - $85 for a full highlight). I got billy again.. I liked the color but he didn't get close enough to the root. One thing that I didn't like that he did was he said he was going to do a glaze... He didn't ask, just did it. So when I went to go pay, he said it came to $105. I asked him why it was more because I had bought the groupon for $85. He said because the glaze was $25. But he never even asked if I wanted it or that there would be a charge. I probably would have said ok to it, but I didn't like that he did not tell me this prior to putting it on. Also, I waited two hours for him to start my hair. There were also only two stylists working. I found that to be kind of strange. I definitely won't be going there again. Since then I went back to my old salon, Christopher Jon's. They are a lot more expensive but they always do a great job. Sometimes if you want the job done correctly, you need to go somewhere that's a bit more expensive. There's a reason why certain places offer groupons.. read more

I have had my hair done twice at this salon, the first time I couldn't rave enough about how much I loved my highlights but then the second time it all went down hill. I had Billy both times I had my highlights done, this past time was a disaster. I have blonde hair and get bloinde full higlights. Unless you want red tinted highlights and the worst service from both the hair dresser and manager DO NOT GO HERE! After I scheduled a third appointment to have Billy correct his mistakes I ended up with platnium highlights on my crown only and 1 inch roots directly after getting them done. I called the day after to talk to Cynthia the manager to schedule yet another corrective appointment, ten minutes after hanging up with her I get a call from Billy yelling and blaming me for my hair. I of course called back to speak with Cynthia and she too yelled and said she did not want to deal with someone like me.
