Sill's is always packed on the weekends so we decided to try them early on a weekday and that was a good decision. Known for their Utah scones, we ordered Dale's breakfast, a half order of French toast with bacon, an apple fritter, and a sweet roll. Dale's breakfast came with an egg, hash browns covered in their special gravy, a choice of meat, and yes, a scone. I'm glad that I tried the state's famous scone again, this time at Sill's as it was much better what I'd tasted before. This one had texture, was chewy but still light, and had a delightful sweetness when the honey butter melted on it. The apple fritter was essentially a scone stuffed with apples and covered in glaze. Lord knows Sill's loves their glaze! Our sweet roll was gigantic, filling up a large takeout container, and sitting in a ton of glaze. It was very good but nearly impossible to finish! The eggs and bacon were cooked well but the potatoes fell prey to the no seasoning fate that most breakfast potatoes face and the gravy needed some salt and pepper. This is solid breakfast fare and it goes without saying that the portions here are ridiculous. Everything could be split or shared, even the half orders. This is the Mom & Pop, greasy spoon diner you wish you had in your hometown. We were visiting a friend near Hill AFB and Yelped breakfast places. Sill's Cafe piqued our interest so we decided to check it out. Around 8:30 on a Saturday morning it was hopping. We were seated quickly, although there were just two larger booths open after we got our smaller table for 4. The counter seating was full! As I said, this is a local place that obviously has its regulars chatting with other diners and the staff. We were treated no differently, the staff were so friendly and we never had to ask for anything as they did a great job checking up on us and refilling our coffees. The menu is full of straightforward, stick to your ribs, good American diner food. As soon as I saw the SOS I stopped looking at the menu. My dad got me into SOS when he told me that's what they'd get served regularly in the military. I was hooked after he told me what SOS stood for. Lol! My husband got the Boss's Breakfast which I did not get a picture of because he plowed right into it. He did share the scone with me and it was delicious and different. You HAVE to order a scone if you eat here. That was the highlight of our meal! It is not your typical scone. It is light, slightly crispy, kind of pastry-like and when you take a bite with the melted honey butter on it, you will smile! I love going here for their famous scones. Penny Ann's Cafe was my first introduction to Utah type scones, but Sill's Cafe is far superior. They're only around $3 and carry the wow factor the minute it's brought to your table. The scone is huge and comes with a scoop of honey butter. I recommend getting a side of strawberry preserves to add on top of the scone. The pop of red makes it even more enticing, and it makes it taste like a funnel cake with strawberry topping. I eat my scones this way from now on. I've only been here for breakfast, and always get Dale's Breakfast because it has all my favorite breakfast items on it - eggs however you want it, hash browns with SOS gravy (think of a peppery country style white gravy), bacon, and a scone. I always get full no matter how ravenous I am. I heard good things about their lunch but haven't had the opportunity to try it yet. This is our go-to breakfast spot. Our family has eaten at Sill's Cafe twice. Both were on return trips from Lagoon back to Idaho. With limited seating I would suggest getting here early. The food was excellent and the portion sizes were huge. The kids enjoyed their huge pancakes and we enjoyed our large scone. Not the best chicken fried steak I have ever had but not the worst either.
